My main goal is to help Catholics connect to a Bible that will draw them into deeper Scripture study and devotion. I do this by giving "close looks" at Catholic Bibles in video format.

Some answers to questions I posed
- The Word on Fire Bible will be available in leather, hardcover, and paperback editions.
- "The mission of this Bible is evangelical. It is meant to introduce not mere facts but a person: Jesus Christ. It aims to do that by unveiling Christ throughout each chapter and verse of the Scriptures, leading readers to a life-changing encounter with him."
- The second volume, which will include the rest of the New Testament, is already in production and scheduled to launch in June 2021
How many volumes are planned for this bible? It seems like there are supposed to be 3 volumes, maybe 4.
@@johnorr8094 I know they will do a two-volume New Testament, but they haven't released information on the Old Testament volumes yet except to say they will be released in the years to follow.
I recommend you apologize for your error and burn this witchcraft work basses idol filled book live on camera for us to see in the name of the father the son and the holy ghost pray in the name of our lord Jesus Christ to our father who is in heaven for mercy this book cover has an EERIE similarity to the KABBALAH pattern
how much with all this push adds it makes me wonder
Artanis Fist Um. That’s the Gospels of the New Testament, not witchcraft. Hope you’re a troll, because that’s a pretty wild line of thinking you have there.
Finally, the Church is reclaiming our ancient design heritage to adorn the Word of God. Protestants, until this gospel book, have done a much better job of presenting the Word of God in the best possible publications.
I was SHOCKED to see the price at $59.99 and a little confused that you think this is an expensive Bible. Not sure how familiar you are with costs, but this kind of quality printing and binding for $59.99 is a steal. I was honestly expecting it to top $200. Very happy to hear that Word on Fire is making it affordable!
I strongly agree that price is amazing... but I've seen and review many bible from all different ranges. Personal I don't feels she's really excited about
You're right! I have no experience with premium Bibles and this is only the second real leather Bible I've had the pleasure of owning. It is a great price for the quality. But the consideration that made me pause is the fact it's only the four Gospels. It's definitely worth the price tag. The quality in products and attention to detail in the design is amazing. So it's a trade off -- the luxe paper is amazing but that means a multi-volume, couple hundred dollar end product. It's just something to weigh for myself and the viewers.
I'll be sitting with it for a little bit and post a follow up video before it's June 15th release to clarify some of these thoughts which were very off the cuff!
That was my long way of saying I think it's expensive for a Gospel set not necessarily for a Bible 😂 took the long way around!
I'm curious then what you think, given the quality, a good price for this would be?
True point on the price, but also keep in mind the high-quality Protestant bibles at ~$200 contain the Bible in its entirety, whereas this is just the 4 gospels. When all is said and done, this will top out well over $200 I suspect. I'll be getting it myself though, so I do suspect it'll be worth it.
Atheist checking in. This is definitely something I will be checking out. The aesthetics of this seem fascinating.
Beyond aesthetics, wait till you read it....our fascinating Lord Jesus Christ....the trinity....God, man and the Holy Spirit....that’s fascinating! God bless and pray you become a disciple of our Lord!
That's awesome, I'd love to hear your thoughts when you get one in your hands!
I think that's something Bishop Barron was really aiming for in producing this Bible. He wanted to make something that was comfortable for non-believers to pick up as well as providing something for believers to dig in some aspects of the faith that they might not have gotten a chance to fully explore, such as "the way of beauty".
@@catholicpeaces6257 I've read the bible before, as well as the works of the Aquinas, Scotus, John Paul II, Pope Pius X, etc. While there are some insights to be learned, I unfortunately at this time remain unconvinced of the truth of the Catholic faith.
@@catholicbiblereviews5581 If it ends up being a little cheaper, then I definitely will be purchasing it.
Do you have a business email/Facebook where I could possibly send over my thoughts if I do decide to review it?
Thanks.
Nothing like the smell of a fresh book, especially leather... :)
For purchase, I’ll probably wait until Fall. I’m non-Catholic, and initiating personal study of Catholicism through self-motivation. There is so much in-depth study that is intriguing. WoW! Thank you for sharing your ministry 🙏🏾
Looks awesome! Beauty is Barron's mantra, and it's on show in spades here.
Will we be able to purchase this Bible here in the UK I live in Scotland and admire Bishop Barron very much. Thank you!
Right when I thought I had enough bibles.
I'm waiting on the first two in the series. Coming in July. You are right, Catholic Bibles rarely seem to have the premium covers and bindings that the Protestant Bible have available. I seem to be drawn more to the commentary provided in Study Bibles of late. This series is just what I want to dig through.
I am totally going to get one of these as soon as I can. This is the bible/gospel book Ive been waiting for! God does hear us.
I like your video. Keep doing your ministry. God bless you. I'm now your new subscriber 🙂.
Thank you so much! Please keep me in your prayers ~

Or for anyone whos eyes shrivel up from the tiny Bible text. Like me
Wow 😮 beautiful catholic bible .. love ❤️. Tks
To me I think the bible is totally worth the price. It is especially useful for beginners. Approaching the bible is overwhelming with so many things to consider at once, but with this it tells you context, comments on it, and it is through this that we may fully understand and appreciate the word. It is also encouraging to read, as it is laid out to be easy to read and eye catching, not small words on bland white backdrops. That discourages most Christians from reading the bible.
This looks like a bible you can just sit down and get sucked into - lots of information and artwork, yet not overly dry or academic. I think Barron said he was going for "Beauty" aspect of the faith with this bible and it definitely looks like he achieved it. Its also familiar to me because just last year I was visiting museums and really putting the time in them, and looking into that bible gives me that same impression.
I agree! The attention to detail in the design of this Bible is astounding
I’m so excited to buy it. How wonderful to present the gospels in such an accessible and engaging way
True christians will not spend a penny on this garbage because they know all Catholics are 100% LOST, from the Pope down to the pauper in the pew. That's because they refuse to be saved by the merits of Christ ALONE. Therefore, they are headed for hell, I don't care HOW sincere they appear.
The false gospel the RCC pushes consists of trying to be saved by the law (CCC 16 & 2068)--which is directly contrary to Galatians 3:10; and puts all Catholics under a CURSE as Paul says in that verse. They furthermore hope for heaven on the basis of good works (1821), sacraments (1129) and papal subordination ("Unam Sanctam"), none of which are biblical, and all of which proves they are (repeat!) 100% LOST.
Quick advice to people who want this: order it now because I went to order mine yesterday (May 31st) and the hardcover edition was sold out. I decided to pay more for the leather edition instead of going with the paperback and they still had those left. Who knows when the paperback and leather will sell out too? It's not even out yet! Go get yours NOW!
How and where do you order?
Thank you for this review! I wonder whether the small format will limit the power of the artwork. Perhaps this should have been designed as a coffee table volume? At any rate, your video was very useful and informative. I particularly like the close-ups.
I hope to take a better look at the art in another review after I've spent some time with the Bible. Some artworks are shown in smaller formats while others get a full page spread. Caravaggio's Crucifixion of St. Peter for example gets a full page and is quite striking, but Georges Seurat "A Sunday Afternoon on the Island of La Grand Jatte" is reduced and inset to perhaps a third of a page which dulls it's impact (although in my opinion that's a difficult one to do justice in a book anyway). the thick paper certainly allowed them to have high quality prints at any rate but I do think you're right about the size.
This is an interesting Bible because it does, to a certain extent, seem to be similar to a coffee table book or a gift Bible or an heirloom Bible, yet this publication is almost 50% pure commentary so it is something that is meant to be used for learning. I look forward to seeing how it does after it's released, and what others make of it.
I can't wait to buy! Thanks for your review.
Love that you know how to properly open a book when opening it for the first time.
I'm so glad you noticed because it literally too so much willpower not to just dive in 😂 thanks for watching!
Thank you for making this review, I was unsure if I wanted to purchase this beforehand.
I'm so excited that Bishop Barron is working on these! this will be coming with me for bible studies.

To be honest, $60 for something of that quality is crazy cheap. Many Bibles which are similar (physically, obviously it is very different in that it's just the Gospels and has so much other content) cost way more than double that. I did hear that they are going to bring out more affordable versions too.
I agree, for what you get in the quality it deserves the price tag it has. It's just difficult because it only contains four books and most Bibles at that cost level or above are going to contain all the books. So putting it in that perspective it is very expensive but that's not to say the price tag is undeserved. It just really depends on the buyer and whether or not they have a need for a gospel volume at that cost.
Beautiful Bible
❤️ They are on sale I bought the both editions but sale ends soon
Thank you. Looks nice.
The price on the back cover was 59.99.
toooo much
Tyler Booska There will be a paperback edition at a lower price point when it releases, but this bible is primarily intended for use in evangelization through the way of beauty, like the decor of a cathedral, so it is definitely taking a “no expenses spared” approach to the design.
Awesome review. I’d love to get this...but I’m worried at how much it will cost. Hopefully we will find out soon
I read that it was 59.99 but I saw that on another UA-cam comment. Hoping it’s true! Honestly this bible is a work of art. Under 100 would be fine
Thanks for giving us a look inside! I've been curious about it and am glad to have a sense of its pro and cons. It certainly looks beautiful. Thank you for the warning that the "word studies" aren't quite as ample as one might expect.
I did find out that the words that are highlighted in the word study are also then investigated in nearby commentary, so they are more in-depth than it first seems, it's just that they are integrated into the commentary rather than being a separate section all on their own. I hope that makes sense! I will be doing another follow-up video that explores this more in depth before the June 15th release date, so stay tuned!
@@catholicbiblereviews5581 I'm happy to hear that. I look forward to your next video!
What is your opinion for those who are starting to walk in the journey towards Christ? And ask for readings would only give them the 4 Gospels or the whole bible ???
I think the Gospels are a fantastic place to begin reading Scripture and knowing Christ -- and the rest of the New Testament also can help tremendously -- but eventually you will want the whole of it. Maybe starting with a New Testament w/Psalms would be a good idea. If they want one with commentary, Catholic Book Publishing Corp's New Catholic Bible comes in a NT & Psalms volume that has been highly recommended to me. It all depends on the individual.
But honestly, the best thing to do is to begin attending a Church where one can encounter Christ Himself directly -- His body, blood, soul and divinity -- in the Eucharist and learn about Him from His Bride the Church. There one will hear the Scripture read in the context in which it was given. I hope this helped!
Thank you.
Thanks for watching!
Wow❤️❤️❤️❤️
Great review! Love your points and filming. Would you consider reviewing other catholic books as well? Thanks.
I find it very sad to see so many mean and unchristian comments on this video. I doubt they will bring in any of the lost sheep.
Well done. Is the artwork on a different kind of paper, like card stock, than the pages of scripture?
No, it is all printed on the same paper, which is quite thick. The only thing I can compare it to is a high quality children's picture book paper except slightly thinner, softer and with a matte finish.
Just got word it's 90 gsm!
I love the Bible! I really want to buy it. But I was taken aback by the price. It will be very expensive for me to buy it because I also have to pay for the overseas shipping. :( I hope I could get a copy someday.
Perhaps the hardback or the paperback edition will be more affordable for you. They are releasing those two as well and I'm sure that the quality will be equal to what we see here even if it's in a different format.
Great reviews.
Thank you 🙏
Beautiful, but I still prefer the RSV....and I need large print.
As someone who is considering converting from a non believer, is this the bible for me?
When is volume 2 coming out?
So glad I discovered this channel! I’m in the market for a Bible that’s made for note taking (ie thick pages and margins). Do you have any suggestions?
Oh, and I’ll be picking this up as well :)
The NRSV-CE Journal Bible from Catholic Bible Press could be a good fit for you! It is fully sewn with several beautiful covers. There is also the Catholic Note-taking Bible in the NABRE translation but it is glued binding so if that bugs you, you may want to pass it by. Hope that helps!

Thank you for this great video! Is the NRSV text anglicized?
Seems to completely omit cross referencing annotations of similar texts, which in bible versions like the Revised New Jerusalem Bible is staple. Anyway, the NRSV in countries outside the US is less preferred for its liberal dynamic equivalence and modern gender language usage.
That's a good description of Bishop Barron for you as well. I would like the Bible, it is beautiful but maybe a little to liberal in it's translation.
Ch in Greek makes a K sound. So it’s pronounced like Cairo in Egypt (Kai Row). It’s for the first two letters in Christ

It's the "gender neutral" translation that is my concern in the NRSV Bible. Any comments on that? Looking forward to your reply. Thku.
Hi, I'm not CBR or a Bible scholar, but I do have an NRSV in front of me right now and might have an insight. It appears that people who are explicitly male or female have male and female pronouns, but that generalized groups get a gender-neutral pronoun instead of a male pronoun (at least, male according to modern language usage). It uses "people" instead of "mankind," for example. It doesn't come across as jarring or political to me, but then I have not done a super-thorough comparison with a similar text like the RSV. I'm sure that someone has though, and that it would be easy to google and get more information.
This is a protestant comparison so it might not land, but...I was raised on the KJV and always found the NKJV very jarring with too many changes. I have not experienced that so far with NRSV and RSV (although that might be because I am relatively new to both - I'm not attached to one over the other).

Great review! Thank you!
thank you so much are you sure its nrsv ce
Yes, they even have a section explaining why they chose that particular one.
A Bible is ideally for daily or regular use: reading, studying and praying . It comes in a single volume. This one is an art gallery book in multiple volumes with the text of the Bible wrapping it up. Great marketing stunt or call it, as the Word on Fire Ministries declare, evangelizing culture. Which culture? High culture or pop culture? This is a collectible that is out of reach for most Catholics. This is not for the working-class but for the investment-class Catholics. This is just another investment item. Great as a coffee table book.
Hopefully the paperback and hardback editions will be affordable for those on a budget. 🙂
My sister called it a Bible Commentary, not a Study Bible. I'm cool with it, even though I am solidly working-class (although not Catholic yet). If they keep publishing one volume every 1 to 4 years, I can save up the $60 a year for it (or $40 if I was doing paperback or hardback) if I decide to get the whole set. You would have to determine whether the value this has for you is worth the saving up. For some people, it will be, and for others it won't. Word on Fire is one of a few evangelistic tools that opened my heart to the Catholic faith, so I know that it resonates with some people, if not all.
Is it in the Douay-Rheims?
No. If it was, I would buy it.
No, it is in the NRSV-CE
I may have considered purchasing this if were the Bible only. I find it a somewhat off-putting that a Bishop is inserting his commentary into the Gospels. Specifically, a Bishop who claims that all people will go to heaven; basically implying that hell does not exist.
Great review, subscribed!

They are calling it the pants on fire Bible
Loosely packaged can and will cause issue damage to the corners of the book. Not interested in a New Testament only format. Sad, the effort wasn’t to include the Old Testament!
It will be interesting to see where they take the project in the distant future. A full "reader's edition" with abridged commentary and thinner paper, with the OT & NT could be interesting.
My understanding is they intend to have it be a 6-volume set in the end. They are starting with the Gospels as the most evangelically essential, but the rest of the new testament will follow next year, then the Old Testament in 4 parts. I’d guess 1 for the Books of the Pentatuech/Torah, one for the Historical Books, one for the books of the Prophets, and the last for the Poetical books and deuterocanon. Not necessarily in that order.
Interesting name for a Bible. Not too long ago it was “people on fire”, as they regularly burned true Christians at the stake !
Reasonable hope that all men are saved? Might as well just get a Protestant one with statements like that. Really doesn’t matter.
Isn't that what we echo when we say the Fatima prayer? "O my Jesus, forgive us our sins, save us from the fires of hell, and lead all souls to Heaven, especially those in most need of Your Mercy"
Lerian V what does heresy mean to you? And what’s the point? So much blood of the martyrs protecting the truth. What good was it when these modernists dumb if all down. Make it all irrelevant. Work out your salvation in fear and trembling. The road to hell is easy and wide. Passive.
@@leonardstefanyshyn40 Do you pray "lead all souls to heaven?"
Lerian V yes I do. But if a Jewish man asked me if he was going to heaven even though he didn’t believe in Jesus. I wouldn’t say I’m hopeful all are saved. We’re both thieves in heaven?
@@leonardstefanyshyn40 Do you really mean it when you pray that all be saved?
(6:50) "I'll be honest...This is nothing like any Bible I've ever seen." Overstatement doesn't lend to your credibility.
No overstatement here. Simply stopping at the thickness of the paper would be enough for me to say this is unlike any Bible I've ever seen, let alone adding to that the quality of the prints inside, the attention to detail in the design, and the sheer volume and unique layout of the commentary.
@@catholicbiblereviews5581 You must not review many "Family" Bibles. Almost every Bible made between 1955-1970 had everything you are cooing over. Gilt-edge, color panels, leather-bound. How much is Bishop Bob paying you to shill this?
😂 it's true, I haven't handled many vintage Bibles but I'd be glad to coo over one if it comes my way! Sorry this seems to upset you, keep me in your prayers please.
Leather. Some poor creature died for this Bible to have been made of leather.
This is a legitimate point, and something I probably should think about more. Thank you for bringing it up.
Allow me to set your mind at ease: leather is a byproduct of meat and related industries. The alternative was that its hide would have gone to a less noble use or to waste. Also, we were given animals for food in the covenant of Noah in Genesis 9:3.
@ J Brown. It is because Jesus ate meat and wore leather, and because we are told that we have dominion over the beasts and are given animals for food and other conveniences that I cannot be a Christian. When I understood that this was the prevailing teaching on the subject in the Christian tradition, I decided that my spiritual journey should go in a different direction. I have no desire to follow a religion that does not place compassion towards all sentient beings, including animals, at its very heart.
Since we're talking about Bibles, religion and animals: Romans 14:1-15:6.
There is nothing incompatible with veganism and/or compassion for animals and Catholicism. In fact such positions if taken for the right reasons are entirely admirable and salutary (think, as one example, as penance/sacrifice). Further, it is against our role as just stewards of creation to inflict needless suffering on animals. It cannot however cross into territory whereby it is declared that the eating of meat and/or the use of animals is thus always or inherently sinful or immoral. It's just not. Otherwise all of humanity throughout all of history, not to mention other predatory animals would stand condemned. This does not reflect reality. And our pursuits whether it be in religion, philosophy, ethics, politics, science, and whatever else, should, first and foremost be about seeking and ascertaining truth.
Given the above, the eating of meat and the just use of animals then, in keeping with holy stewardship, is also perfectly fine. However, as St. Paul points out, the flaunting of this and other rights and freedoms we have in Christ as children of God and especially if one were abusing and/or forcing this upon others who find these to be scandalous can be inherently immoral and sinful.
@Aaron Neiva. I appreciate yours is the majority view for the time being. There are other religious traditions, Jainism, much of Buddhism and Hinduism for example, that take a different view. All of these precede the Christian era chronologically and are at least as rich in wisdom and in spiritual depth. Humans have indeed eaten and otherwise made use of animals throughout history. We are also only beginning to reject views that, for the duration of the entirety of human history, have condoned slavery, warfare and exploitation of all kinds. This is due progress. I hope we can continue to make progress as we evolve, spiritually and psychologically, into the future - or else risk not evolving at all, and indeed in bringing about our own demise as a species. If we do go forward, I hope we will be able to include all sentient beings, including animals, who share many of our emotions and all of our capacity for suffering, into the circle of compassion which they have hitherto and for so long been denied.
