When one shovel lasts for about 50min, it's probably easiest to just limit the amount of dirt that is input into the system at once. Fill in 1.5 double chests at once and you will run out of dirt before the shovel breaks. Easy safety switch
The problem with that is the fact that unbreaking is a random chance to not consume durability Obviously those random chances even out to about 50 minutes but there's still a chance that your just unlucky and it breaks in 25 minites

@@gooscifur5327 the amount of uses follows a binomial distribution with a standard deviation that's pretty small at unbreaking 3; you can put it through some statistics program with the probability of it using one durability at unbreaking 3 being 1/4 or 0.25. from there you can decide on the risk you're willing to take of it breaking, but as the other person said a 10% margin leaves well over 99.9% odds of it not breaking.

I recognise it's a small save, but you wouldn't actually need 13 stacks of bottles: If you fill the dispenser up first then you could fill 4/5 of the hopper slots in the hopper with a single filter item that will never be in the system (so anything except bottles in this case); the dropper will always have bottles in all nine slots, so the filter items will never be able to move into it, thus you only need the 9 and a bit stacks
Works like a charm for 1.20! At first I was concerned but turns out that it was important to fully fill the dispenser and hopper with empty glass bottles!
*For people watching in 2024* This farm doesn't work well if you use a tool that breaks the dirt too quickly, before it can even be converted to mud, causing the water bottles to accumulate and be lost. The diamond shovel as suggest in the video don't works properly. You have two alternatives to avoid this problem: - Use an iron shovel, which is less efficient than a diamond shovel, but has low durability; - Enter a Minecart before breaking the blocks, which makes breaking slower. This allows you to use a diamond/netherite shovel with Efficiency V (Recommended).
Not much chance anyone seeing this comment in 2023, but I just built this farm in 1.20.1 and found that the timing of this system seems off for me. It actually dupes water bottles at a significant, almost irritating rate. Anyone else?
@@gamingwithjosh7826 definitely dupes them, I have several double chests of water bottle. An unenchanted iron shovel with haste seems to be the max speed for it to work for me.
I noticed over the course of messing with the machine, the hopper that was supposed to be putting the empty bottles back got filled with dirt and water bottles, so I put 4 water bottles in there, and one slot of some empty bottles, and that fixed the issue for me where the water bottles were piling up in excess. Because now the empty bottles could go in their rightful place. It doesn't create the mud every single time, but I also don't lose any bottles, so I'm happy with this.
I keep running into an issue where I keep collecting the water bottles that are supposed to be going into the dispenser that makes the mud. Water bottles always fill that dispenser and hopper, however an excessive amount are being made to the point where it goes in my inventory or to the open, exposed side of the dispenser. How do I fix this. I tried to cover the exposed area but it always gets stuck just out of my reach. I have changed the redstone dust into a dot to allow the hopper behind it to always accept water bottles. Is the use of a eff 2 diamond shovel or the amount of bottles the problem? I ask because in the video, Ilmango also gets water bottles in his inventory while using the machine. So far I have been just drinking the excess water and putting the glass bottles back into the correct hopper.
for anyone with the same problem, on my server a diamond shovel with no enchant was producing the same problem so just take iron ones ! one shovel will mine you 4 stacks

If you place a soul sand and water source at foot level in front of the machine and a block 2 above to stop the player from bobbing, you can use an Eff V Diamond or Netherite Shovel without mining the mud too fast. Because when you're floating in water you get a 5x slower speed penalty for mining, you're able to use a better shovel than iron with better enchantments to cancel out the mining slow down. Much more convenient having a higher durability tool like diamond than just iron if you've got a lot of dirt to convert.
@@matt7399 you are a lifesaver. It worked and I can use my top shovel. At maximum speed. No leftovers. Few blocks pop out regarding the ejection direction of a block breaking. But that's minor issue. Thanks mate. I was between this or the haste 2 beacon and fist version. This literally needed 2 extra blocks placement and a trapdoor to hold the water and easy access to the soul sand.
It's weird. It worked as intended in my creative world with the Netherite shovel. However, in my single player survival world I had to back the shovel off to an Iron Shovel otherwise I was mining more dirt than mud. I don't know what that's about. A minor inconvenience only because I can't AFK due to the tool breaking. First world problems. Update: I changed my AFK spot to soul sand with a single water source on it and enclosed my player in a trap door and put a block over head and can use my God Netherite shovel and it works perfect.
I set this up on a Bedrock Realms server to see whether it translated. In fact, the redstone works the same. The issue of course is that you can't offhand dirt. I set this up in a quieter area of the server and with a 9x1 beacon with haste (not haste II) I was able to break the mud block with the dirt block with about the right timing. It seems to work better when there are 2 or 3 full bottles preloaded in the dispenser. ilmango if you read this - why is the hopper locked with the locked repeater?
Because when the dirt/mud block is still there it is getting strongly powered by the locked repeater which in turns weakly powers the hopper below it causing it to be locked until the dirt/mud block is broken.
Great easy build. Thanks ilmango. Make sure if you are using an autoclicker you set your button spaming timmers properly. Not like me where I had bottles thrown everywhere lol. Once you get the right speed its amazing.
I like that this is a short video. The farm videos I want to watch are short and to the point, just show me how to build it, I don't care about how it works. 3:30 - 6:30 is all I needed
Maybe I built it wrong, or maybe an update broke it, but I keep getting empty bottles dumped directly back into the mud-making hopper (and into my inventory), and I'm not good enough with redstone machinery to understand why
I wish this was in slo mo. You went so fast I couldn’t see where you put the glass bottles, and were they full or empty? And how does the process start? Do you have to take dirt out of the chest and add them into the space one by one? If yes, then why have the chest up there and not in one’s inventory? I’m so confused. And I must have more mud.
IDK why, but when I hold down both left and right click while using the farm, the dispenser spits out water bottles out of the farm as well, and it just makes a huge mess. Any tips? Edit: apparently, it was because a diamond shovel was too fast at breaking the dirt, so after switching to an iron shovel it works fine.
Yeah since this snapshot he used something was changed. If you Insta break blocks this farm breaks. So maximum allowed is the iron shovel. No enchanting.
i rebuild this farm on a SMP-Server and i always get water bottle overflows, want can i do against it? I dont want to use iron shovels all the time, which are better to not get this overflow, but run out of durability very fast, even with unbreaking their almost dead after 15 stacks.

i had an issue where the mud leaked into the little area with the redstone repeaters but fixxed it by placing minecart hoppers on top of hoppers that lead to the output chests, then i piston some blocks onto the minecart hoppers (break the rails first) and on top of those blocks u place the redstone repeaters as normal, hope this helped any1.
I like the farm but am finding it very glitchy on my server; every couple stacks I have to stop and pick up water bottles from all over, drink the water, and feed them back into the system. Have tried messing with timings but it makes no difference. And yes I am using a no-efficiency shovel.
@@lonecrusaider It's been way better with iron shovels; some friends that play with client-side mods are still having problems with iron but I'm strictly vanilla and find a MUCH lower rate of water bottles strewn around with an iron shovel. I didn't bother to enchant them, not worth it, just burn through 'em.
Everyone the reason is because the hopper feeding the water/mud dispenser and the 1 feeding the output chest are both getting hopper locked by the redstone dust. I just fixed the issue with a friend of mine and although it helps improve the issue there is still a very slight loss when going full tilt.
You don't need to fill the hopper with 4.25 stacks of bottles. Just put in like 6 bottles in one slot, and fill the other slots with junk items. The bottle dispenser will never get empty enough to let the junk in, and you can save about 4 stacks of glass this way.
You also don't need to lock the repeater. If you're ok having 1 block sticking out of the otherwise 4x3 footprint, and you don't have a lot of redstone, you can just power the repeater with a lever.
@@diggoran This is true and why he said for the smallest foot print. You also don't need the torch as you can use a container with 1 item in it being read by a comparator that points into the side of the repeater to lock it.
@@dracconis69 right, I just wanted to help people who were trying to build a mud making machine with less resources. A comparator would work too but then you need more redstone and now also quartz.

Nice to see ilmango making tutorials again. Hopefully they won't get stolen and he will keep it up.
*Finally a good use for locked repeaters.*
if your wanting to use this setup in the newest update use a iron shovel i tried with a diamond shovel it was too quick
Great easy build. Thanks ilmango. Make sure if you are using an autoclicker you set your button spaming timmers properly. Not like me where I had bottles thrown everywhere lol. Once you get the right speed its amazing.
I nearly forgot that a locked repeater was a thing
I like that this is a short video. The farm videos I want to watch are short and to the point, just show me how to build it, I don't care about how it works.
3:30 - 6:30 is all I needed
Maybe I built it wrong, or maybe an update broke it, but I keep getting empty bottles dumped directly back into the mud-making hopper (and into my inventory), and I'm not good enough with redstone machinery to understand why
Thanks. Later versions you get floating water bottles but no big deal. It works all the same.
has 4 X 4 series ended, did i miss out the finale or something...... :(
idk why but my hotbar fills up with bottles and there are so many piled up ontop of the hopper and my mud is going everywhere..... help
When the snapshot is released ilmango be like
It's free real estate
The empty bottles dont filter back into the dispener, they just shoot out at the dirt
This is the first time I've ever heard of a locked repeater, how long has that been in the game?
It's been in the game for nearly 10 years.
Material list:
3 hoppers
*proceeds to use 4*
IDK why, but when I hold down both left and right click while using the farm, the dispenser spits out water bottles out of the farm as well, and it just makes a huge mess. Any tips?
Edit: apparently, it was because a diamond shovel was too fast at breaking the dirt, so after switching to an iron shovel it works fine.
Ah, maybe thats my problem.
Yeah since this snapshot he used something was changed. If you Insta break blocks this farm breaks. So maximum allowed is the iron shovel. No enchanting.
i place the dirtblock and the dispenser shoots like 3 bottles, so my inventory keeps filling with the waterbottles.
I'm having this issue too. It worked better before. I think the new updates have changed the timing somehow.
Still works in 1.21.4. I ended up with an extra redstone torch. You don't need that many glass bottles, 9 stacks and a bit should be enough.
i rebuild this farm on a SMP-Server and i always get water bottle overflows, want can i do against it? I dont want to use iron shovels all the time, which are better to not get this overflow, but run out of durability very fast, even with unbreaking their almost dead after 15 stacks.
can you make a sculk farm where the enderman are killed by withers so it is also a witherrose farm?
0:47 is the perfect visual representation of the vast difference between mango 🥭 and ever regular player, we should stick with the tiny on the ground builds and let the sky's be open for the mango king
Super simple and works great, thanks.
Thank you man, you are the best!
Thanks for the video!!! on my server i put a haste becon up, and just break mud with fist seems to go fast enough and all blocks turns into mud :P
i had an issue where the mud leaked into the little area with the redstone repeaters but fixxed it by placing minecart hoppers on top of hoppers that lead to the output chests, then i piston some blocks onto the minecart hoppers (break the rails first) and on top of those blocks u place the redstone repeaters as normal, hope this helped any1.
I am grateful to you for making this tutorial, thank you :)
Love it, very simple thanks so much!
I like the farm but am finding it very glitchy on my server; every couple stacks I have to stop and pick up water bottles from all over, drink the water, and feed them back into the system. Have tried messing with timings but it makes no difference. And yes I am using a no-efficiency shovel.
I had the same problem, just use a lower grade shovel, it then takes 1 bottle = 1 block = 1 tick = 1 mud block broken
@@marthus1486 better with a stone or wood shovel than with diamond?
This is my problem too. I'll try this.
A comparator would work too but then you need more redstone and now also quartz.
> simple > ilmango video
yea right, can't fool me again with this
good luck on your quest to find a simpler mud farm
@@ilmango I can see how my comment could be taken as negative. I was trying to say that even some of your simple farms often make my head spin, and attempting to recreate one of your concepts often left me stunned on how complex a simple farm can be. I have huge respect for and enjoy what you do. I have for a long time. Sorry for not formulating this better, I was pretty tired when I watched the video :/
Amazing as always
Couldn't you save on glass bottles by putting 1 or 2 in the first slot of the hopper and junk items in the last 4? It's only slightly cheaper but still
All of those confused why things aren't working, make sure your beacon isn't hastening you. I wasted a few hours forgetting about that.
I love this simplistic design. However, mine fills way too many water bottles that clog up the water source and my inventory. Any ideas? I'm on 1.20
This seems to be a bit broken. I get dirt, mud, and water bottles in my inventory or all over the floor. I am on a server by myself and don't notice any problems otherwise.
the dispenser that waters the dirt is collecting empty bootles and send only full bottles pass so that leaves me with full disper of empty bottles that wont go into the hopper beacose hopper is full of water bottles
YAAAS
finally my favourite farm
I’m having an issue with the dispenser holding onto empty glass bottles and the empty bottles that it does dispense are stuck inside the dispenser block itself. I’m on bedrock.
For those that also found a diamond shovel too fast. You can switch to an iron shovel, or use haste II and punch it which seems to be pretty close to the optimal speed too.
FUnny thing as I built a version extremely similar to his and I can use a netherite shovel at full tilt with no issues.
Wow, I haven't seen someone use repeater locking in so long.
Clasic ilmango
1.20.6
bottles are not filling with water and ampty they are foint to the dropper, any tips?
Using this in 1.21. Using a diamond shovel is going too fast. I had to switch to an iron shovel. (No I don't have haste going. I did at first and forgot about it, but I turned that off and am still mining too fast with a diamond shovel.)
YES! That's the fix. Thank you. I also have problems using 1.20.1 currently and the items went mayhem. Too many water bottles created, Mudblocks flying out of the farm, inventory filling up... Using an Iron shovel fixed this issue right away. Well... then I'm gonna craft some up with unbreaking :D
@@myrillya Not a problem! I figured others might have the same issue, so why not pass along a fix that I discovered?
@@philsey6913 Yes, that's really helpful! :D
Already crafted up a bunch of Iron shovels, all with Mending and Unbreaking. Now I can finally start farming :D
Hey! do I have to fill all the dispensers with bottles? I'm assuming I do that way it pushes it all out... what about the hopper though
@@excusememai You fill the dispenser/hopper exactly how Ilmango did it in the video :)
It was the full dispenser and the hopper almost full with only 16 in the last slot. It'll eventually work as intended when you use an iron shovel.
this doesnt work, seems the bottles end up despawning eventually and then you wont have any empty ones to be fed back and you get a dispenser with half empty half full ones the full ones block the flow of empty bottles, not sure how to fix. its a one time use farm definitely
I'm actually getting a lot of water bottles in my inventory and a lot of material ends up on the redstone. Haven't been able to figure it out.
Nevermind. Iron shovel fixed it.
Automatic farm be like:"Am I really worth it?? I am cool ok, but its MUD"😂
Can't wait for that video too
when you're doing map pixel art and you need 10k for that perfect shade, it's a lifesaver lol
@@michaelkennell2420 that makes sense, but I think that the mud has a pretty common color🤔 but you are still right, considering the scicraft players and all the other crazy builder out there😂
@@lukecalos4442 mud bricks are quite unique. And that soulsand's feature: full/not full block.
@@НикитаЕремеев-ц6ц I'm stupid... I forgot you could make bricks😂🤦 yes you are right, sorry for understimating a block
This farm isnt working at all in 1.20.1 for me. Makes too many water bottles, mud and dirt gets spat out everywhere and would despawn, i tried using unenchanted iron, diamond and netherrite shovels and all still have this problem.
change redstone to a dot by pressing it it it will stop locking the hopper.
i also have this issue and i turned the redstone into a dot but still get tons of filled bottles@@shelbyward9048
Why does that repeater on the left have to be locked? How is that different from powering it from a block further to the left?
It is to decrease the layout size, you can just put a redstone source further left with a repeater/comparator. It is the same case with the trapdoors you can just build a tube.
For anyone on a laggy server, I just used an iron shovel instead and my problem was solved!
The dispenser is filling up with empty water bottles for me, is there a fix for this? Like the bottle that has just been dispensed gets shot out again and then the dirt doesn't convert
Make sure you use a dispenser, not a dropper
