Let's break down Operation Praying Mantis with the Fat Electrician!
Original video:
• America Obliterates Ha...
#reaction #iran #usnavy #historylove
I wish you all a very "proportional" week-end!
Indeed, you should definitely check out “The Barbary Wars” also by the Fat Electrician. Another great one, and covers two great origin stories, well, one Origin story and another major and awesome event for the USMC.
You too lol
Same too you good sir.
We’ll see just how “proportional” I wanna get. Lol, have a good weekend, too.
Just a tip, watch the videos to the very end. He often says a few parting words after the credits go up.
Do NOT fuck with America's boats. Iran got off easy. Just ask Japan...
They touched our boats and we invented a portable star just to drop it on them twice.
in away Japan got of easy if the US did invade the mainland combine with the WW2 Japan's attitude of surrender is dishonorable it would have bean borderline genocide.
@@shewanttheducky495 They became the land of the rising suns, as in plural!
Japan sunk 4 boats and lost 2 cities
Son, the Japanese Imperial Navy had for more then TWO military craft and they`re called SHIPS, where as when you go fishing you do it in a boat, einstein...But since you have the mental capabilities of a long gone dinosaur, I feel your parents grief...
Finally, someone who pauses and actually has intelligent and informative comments.
Thank you, I very much appreciate your comment
Love this guy, it just the perfect amount of "America f*** yeah" for my taste. His vidro on the barbary wars are great too imo
Thanks I'll have a look at these too, this guy is very fun indeed
I second this recommendation.
Any of his videos, but Cassius Clay
I also love his most recent video on the old bastards of the 77th infantry division.
I love all of his videos. He is historically accurate and hysterically funny, imo. I can highly recommend him.
7:35 “the nine most terrifying words in the English language are: 'I’m from the government, and I’m here to help.'”-Reagan. Because government always fucks things up
That, and they're out to get you. Doesn't matter who you are. Even if you're one of them, the other sides are out to get you.
"Congratulation you are free. Please do not resist."
and yet somehow the "government" of the US formed the most powerful nation on earth......not private companies....not individuals.....stupid shit like quoting that senile moron Reagan drive me nuts. You are not clever....and neither was he.
I was in the marines on an air craft carrier in that area and it's actually pretty wild how much babysitting we did on trade routes. I'm not sure people understand how the U.S and a couple other countries keep their merchant and oil tankers safe from literal pirates every single day. Lol
haha, thank you for this story :) All the best from Lyon, France
I was there.
The tanker escort mission was called Operation Earnest Will. When we would enter or leave the gulf through the Straits of Hormuz, Iran would light us up with their Silkworm missile radars. And steaming around in mined waters is rather nerve-racking.
I was on the USS Merrill (DD-976), SAG B, during this engagement. We gave them a 15-minute warning in English, then farsi (we had a CT onboard who spoke farsi), then in English, then in Farsi, then he finished it with, "Have a nice day." Of course we all cheered at that. Afterwards, we gave them a 10-minute warning, a 5-minute warning, then we told them, "We are opening fire, is everyone off the platform?" They said, "We are not leaving." So, we opened fire.
We fired 2 rounds before they fired back with a 22mm chain gun. Our Fire Controlman took care of that with one shot, as Nic said. Yes, he was THAT good.
We were supposed to fire 5 or 10 rounds, then the Lynde B. McCormick was supposed to do the same. We were supposed to trade off until finished. We wound up doing all the shooting on the Sassan oil platform because Lynde B. McCormick's gun had dropped sync and was "walking" and they couldn't fix it in time.
After the engagement we had a joke: How does the Ayatollah inspect his fleet... Glass Bottomed boat.
The Soviet Udaloy destroyer was gathering intel.
A few minor details wrong, but it doesn't detract from the story and NO ONE gets ALL the details right.. I love Nic's presentation. I've seen most of his videos and they are awesome.
Sorry for the late answer and thank you for this incredible story!!!
When I heard about this I made the joke that it was in fact "proportional" when you factor in cost. The Cost to build and then repair the "Samuel B. Roberts" is probably many times more than what the Navy destroyed. So in one way this wasn't even close to a "proportional" response. lol
also, "proportional" does not mean equal proportions.

😅
@@ToonStory-fh4gn Good evening (Or whatever time of day you see this. 🤔). I thought you'd appreciate or even risk reacting to this clip about the Wisconsin featuring The Fat Electrician that fully explains the gist of the "Temper, temper" bit. That's if you've not already done so. 😎

Can't wait to see more Fat Electrician. It may no longer be Christmas, but I highly recommend his video titled "Eggnog Riot at West Point - A Christmas Story."
He has a short video on the Marine Corps Toys for Tots program on how it started and even a story about a guy with a knife stealing from Marines collecting toys, it didn't end well for the thief
Oh yes!!!!! I vaguely know the story and it must be fantastic when told by TFE
I don't have an example of "proportionality" but my guess is you have to go back to the Roman Empire.... They had a reputation for getting "real proportional" when they wanted! 😂😂😂
I was actually thinking the same : the Carthaginian war, which resulted in the city being razed to the ground and covered in salt, was quite "proportional" 😂
Rony Ray Gun was the President's nickname and pushed the Star Wars (SDI)program. The program failed in its goals but things like laser guided missles, and antimissle systems were developed like those now protecting Israel.
And now billions of our tax dollars are shoveled to Israel every year. They are our supposed "greatest ally", but wtf have they done for us other than suck up our money? Israel and the entire United Nations would be sucking dick for lunch money without the US and it makes me sick as a taxpayer.
Oh yes, I remember the Star Wars programme, I was a kid and I didn't know how he was going to train and employ his Jedis. Thank you!
Btw Nick is good at getting things right but I did catch one error in this one. The A6 is one of the few side seaters the US has used as fighters. The bomber was not in a back seat but a side seat.
Thank you for taking the time to share this information :)
Iran also had 4 frigates, not 2.
you may recognize the name "USS Enterprise" as the star ship in Star Trek.
Ah yes, that's probably the explanation 😅
It was also a famous carrier in WW2, also featured in the movie Midway. Thought I'd throw that out there since he did mention the movie when that A-6 did the very shallow dive-bomb on the Iranian frigate.
@@Karle94 And was America's unofficial flagship during the Barbary Wars.
I love him as a story teller. The one on the F-15 is great.
He's great! Thanks for the suggestion
Well, could life get any better? My favorite history channel showing one of my favorite storytellers! And it's Friday, I must be living right. 😊. You certainly got the nuance of Reagan right, picture the sternest, most by the book , school principal you ever had and he's angry at you, that was him. This story is before I was old enough to care much about world affairs but remember it's was truly a cardinal sin to dare raise gas prices! That is one thing that will get Americans up in arms fast, if I were a detective I swear it's yet another case of follow the money😊. I do love the fat electrician, he's got a way with words! Grew up in a family of military, truckers and construction so I have quite a vocabulary! Haha. As always thank you for the video and work you put into the video we appreciate you
Always follow the money! Nice to hear that you have a nice spicy vocabulary hahaha, thank you for your comment and have a nice weekend!
I remember this going down. My grandfather was livid, gas rose up to $0.88 per gallon where we lived and he was about to quit driving!
Thanks for that, now I think we're used to it but at the time it must have been a real shock for people!
USS Enterprise SHOULD "ring a bell" seeing how it is considered the "unofficial flag ship" of the ENTIRE US Navy, and has been around in one form or another from just after the American Revolution, and became the aircraft carrier during WW2 that won the most awards and is still to this day considered the "most decorated ship in the US Navy history". Taking part in multiple campaigns, multiple conflicts, and is possibly the ONLY "ship name" that will be carried over from one generation of naval ships to another first. Meaning that ANY new "ship" that will take over the aircraft carrier, will most likely be named "Enterprise" as part of Naval tradition. (Again, this isn't just a "new ship", but a NEW CLASS of ships that will replace the concept of "aircraft carriers" as we think of them today.
The fact that they saved the ship is amazing.
Yes true
It wasn't fate, that the best damage control team was on that ship, it was effective leadership.
Thank you, very important parameter indeed👍
Fat Electrician said it best.
Why they fought doesn't matter for this story.
I very much enjoyed this reaction and your style . I enjoyed a perspective different from that of the US .
I enjoyed the fact that when it referenced something you were not sure of you simply paused and looked it up to be able to comment more appropriately.
I also enjoyed the fact that you already have a knowledge of history that far surpasses most even to the point of recalling specific US naval warplanes from WW2.
Lastly your sense of humor shone through without the feigned hysterics of so many reactors.
Well played sir.
Thank you, I very much appreciate your comment. It is heartwarming. All the best from Lyon, France
I love this story so much I watch every reaction video I can find.
I recommend The Fat Electrician's USS O'Bannon video, you'll never look at potatoes the same way.
Its not our fault we have more portions.
Haha thank you for the explanation
Respect to hear a Frenchman openly say that, that's all Americans need haha.
Hehehe thank you 🙂
Hello my friend..,,please react to more of the Fat Electrician. Great way to hear US history. Gotta love it. The greatest one is Grand Theft U-boat where Americans steal a German submarine during WW2. Greatest video ever.
Hey, with pleasure that one sounds epic! Thank you 😀

Ok... I am seriously looking forward to you watching more of his videos because you add a LOT of context that is almost impossible to get from US sources. Thank you.
I recommend you check his video on the most gangster politician, I really want to hear a non-US POV on that one.
With pleasure! Oh yes, I'd be happy to talk about corrupt politicians, we have a few of those here at home.
Rules always favor the side that brakes the rules. Iran thought the advantage offered by acting first would be enough, it was not. USA comes in with enough firepower to overcome many disadvantages that come with facing an adversary that is willing to engage.
As long as America can afford to follow the rules, America welcomes adversaries to take the first shot and justify a proportional response.
This guy is funny. His videos are a hoot!!!! My first trip to your channel... I am no expert but I agree with you their major gripe with each other is religion most of the time.. I had to Google it, the U.S. defense budget for 2024 is 825 billion. Thanks for the video!! Merci sir, take care!!!
Thank you for this comment :) 825 billion, I'll pass this information to our gov to make sure they don't do anything stupid. Cheers!
I was in college when this happened. I have to be honest, it didn't register much then, but I do remember that about a year later a PC game came out. It was a Naval Strategy game, and all the scenarios were baded on the incidents that happened in the Persian Gulf...blowing up oil platforms, escorting Tankers, protecting civilian ships from Iranian speedboats and fast attack ships.
Maybe this one was subsidised by the US Navy? Thank you for this anecdote :)
Its 100% victories.... Ok as a American I have to introduce you to a concept called Seal Clubbing.
You should check out the fat electrician " Jake McNasty McNeece and the filthy thirteen ".

Curator Terrence Bey: Proportional? My dear girl, when Ramses destroyed Syria, that was proportional, you are a catastrophe! Look at my library! Why do I put up with you?
dude, Frenchy had some serious input on it lol. i LOVE it!
its like wiping my ass with silk
Hahaha thank you 😅
If you can stand it, his video on the cheese bunkers (these are a real thing, and I did know about them decades ago from books; they're not a secret so much as something nobody happens to talk about) is good too and explains what I might assume is a mystery to non-U.S. citizens: why exactly there exists a weird chemical thing we call "American cheese product" and which those Americans who eat cheese have no problems counting as "cheese". It's the result of the government commissioning research on how to mess with the concept of cheese with the goal of extending its shelf life as much as possible without outright poisoning anybody, and the research not being any kind of secret so the companies that did it were free to find some use for their own work. They did.
Oh my god. Okay, I'm psyching myself up for this.
I'd definitely recommend checking out more of the Fat Electrician's videos.
Thanks I already have a couple others on the way
Would love your reaction to TFE's video of Virginia Hall aka the Limping Lady that he did.

@@ToonStory-fh4gn Thanks! Looking forward to it! ❤️🤍💙🇺🇸
Hell ya. You definitely have to check out more of him! I’ll be keeping an eye out
Aiiight!
This was not the first USS Enterprise, it is one of the oldest names in the US Navy and most reused, with the version from WW2 the most distinguished carrier the US has ever had. At the decommissioning of the nuclear carrier you mentioned it was announced that the next carrier laid down, CV-80, would be named USS Enterprise.
Correct. There is, has always been, and always will be a USS Enterprise. In fact, the first space shittle to ever roll out was Enterprise (and yes, it was introduced to the theme from Star Trek with some cast members present).
And last but not least: the Star Trek one!
If I remember correctly a USS Enterprise was also involved in the dismantling of the Barbary pirate states as well.
The interesting thing is that the US took the wrong lesson from this into the 21st century, whereas Iran adapted. Unlike Japan or the Russians during the 20th century; Iran fully grasped now it cannot try to manipulate the rules of war nor compete with the US in open-sea battle. So they went faster smaller vessels that are harder for radars to track or deal with; and they went the Chinese route; land based re-entry weapons that are harder for CIWS to counteract. Thankfully, the US has not yet had cause to test itself against these new doctrines to see if they're effective.
Let's hope they don't have to do the test IRL, the world's messy enough as it is!
Someone here hasn’t accounted for both the Patriot system & the AEGIS system on most USA military boats.
If either of those systems find an enemy boat, write that boat into the casualties list because it’s not remaining on this Earth for very long.
@@Delpix722 plus didnt the US just test a new missile on iranian rockets in the past few days? I wonder what they're capable of
@@kevinprzy4539 USA has been capable of that since 1990s. Shot down one of our own spy satellites to prove a point.
Someone seems to be ignoring that the US and a whole bunch of coalition forces that include France and the UK have been fighting these tactics since last fall, and having to fight them as a reactionary force rather than proactive.
The Houthis in Yemen are Iranian backed and advised. So far with minimal assests deployed during a US election season the Houthis are unable to acomplish their stated mission.
People seem to forget that when you engage the US Armed forces you are not just fighting a navy ship, a base, or a soldier. A reminder had to be sent of that earlier this year when again Iranian backed forces killed three of our servicemen in Jordan. The military didn't use a carrier group, or launch from an overseas base. It sent a B-1B from Texas around the world in under a day to rain down hell.

"Don't Touch their boats!" - Japan
Great stuff...all of Fat Electrician's stuff is really informative and fun...and his accuracy is very very high. The only note I have on this is a tiny correction of something you said. At Midway, the heroic dive bombers were Douglas SBD Dauntlesses...the F4F Wildcats were most of the fighter force. 👍😁
Thank you as always for taking the time to give me these explanations I appreciate it :)
If you ever react to any more of his videos, that one wasn't done yet. He always does something in the last few seconds after the credits.

Proportional for the navy that sunk everything Japan owned that would float in response to Pearl Harbor? The USN carrier launched dive bomber was the Grumman "Dauntless" SBD (aka, Slow But Deadly).

Also, there was the 1979 Iran hostage situation when Iranians took the U.S. Embassy and over 100 American embassy workers hostage in Tehran. I was 10 years old and they paraded our people around on television everyday. I never forgot this and most of the U.S. service men involved in Operation Praying Mantis probably didn't either.
