Hes the best Whiskey Tuber imo. Always honest, never manipulative for personal gain and his palate is phenomenal.
I happen to love EC18 and I really don’t understand all the hate. The oak is not overdone. It has that old rickhouse funk that I love. It’s exquisite.
So what if it’s 90 proof?? There are a lot of well aged bourbons that are 90 proof and pack a punch (Weller 12, Lot B, Eagle Rare 10, Wild Turkey Diamond Legacy Edition, etc etc). Even that new Makers that everyone is excited about (11&12 year blend) is 90 proof.
Your right I did a flight with Joseph magnus, four roses limited 22, old Fitz 19, and Stagg.
Stagg won by a hair, old Fitz 19, four roses tied, Joseph magnus cigar blend came in last by far.
I’m not sure how long you’ve been doing this for this series but I really appreciate the “metal-ish” intro music featuring lots of double kick action 🤘

Been debating on the knob 18. This makes me want to get it. Still glad I passed on the Mitchner 10 for 260.

It would be really helpful if you could show the bottle while you’re tasting. With 4 it’s hard to remember which tasting notes went with which whiskey at the end.
I've not had the others, but I love my KC18. Remus doesn't surprise me, Indiana juice is top quality.

Honestly I'm good with regular Knob Creek I've even got a Meijer store pick Barrel proof that's really good I got for 40 bucks to pay almost 200 for the 18-year is ridiculous

Of the four, the Remus Gatsby is the most available in my area at $225-$250. The other three can be had but aren’t seen often and are severely marked up. Aged bourbon prices are now like what happened to Bordeaux - demand is completely outstripping supply which feeds a hysteria for the juice. The ages are similar - about 10-20 years for aged Bordeaux - and the price increases are starting to weed out a lot of the folks who probably were devoted drinkers through the rough patches of the bourbon industry.
Gatsby is a rare one in my area. If you’re lucky to see it, it’s 350 or more

Only one of those I have had is the EC18 and I was really disappointed.
EC18 has got to be my biggest letdown tasting of a highly allocated bourbon. There's just nothing there to me except for oak. I found it very flat and thin, thin, thin 🥃🤘

I’ve tried two different EC18 barrels. One was solid, one tasted like wet wood. Not surprised it lost
Shocking!!! Do you think it’s the Gatsby opening up that has you rank it so high? This is the second or third review on “WhiskyTube” of the Gatsby that was done in a blind flight where it did much better than its individual review.
I love when I crack a bottle and it tastes basic and uneventful. Then I circle back after almost forgetting about it and give it a second shot and it blows my socks off. Crazy what a little air time aging can do to a bourbon!
Michters 10 bourb for me always been super flat and no finish so I'm not surprised but kc18 was the same for me. Haven't had the Gatsby yet so will have to try it!

Nice blinded match up! Thanks for sharing your assessment of these 4. I havent really liked a M10 release since the 2014… everything ive had since 2016 has been very ho-hum; over-filtered without any real age related flavor/complexity (tobacco, leather, cherry, chocolate). Was definitely surprised that you liked the RRGR so much (I find the mid-palate to finish a bit flat) , but I d agree that well aged MGP is my favorite flavor profile over EC and KC… they did do a great job blending the KC18 too, imho. The EC18 may just be limited by the fact that its a single barrel product (and lower abv), and limited to the complexity that can be found in 1 barrel. Give me 10 barrels of EC18, and im pretty sure we can beat the SiB every time…

I had the Remus Gatsby at a regent tasting and really enjoyed it. That said, it was freaking $250!

Great lineup- I been lucky enough to try all - I think the Gatsby is underrated but I may like Knob Creek just a bit more but so close-
Before watching my guess is that KC18 will come in first and EC18 will come in last
The Michter’s 10 would be the only one I may be able to find, and will pick it up if so. Love hearing the flavor notes you get. I still enjoy my bourbon in a rocks glass with either round or square ice, no matter the price. 🥃

I find this down right hilarious. I remember many reviews of the Great Gatsby as it was under whelming to the point I never even opened mine. Well I guess that teaches me again to make my own opinions.😂
Opinions are like assholes, everyone has one. Everyones palate is different. Thats what makes reviews so hard to go by. Just because a lot of ppl like or dislike something, doesnt mean you are going to feel the same. Taste/flavor is subjective

Yeah, you and a lot of guys knocked the Gatsby. It’s delicious and definitely is up there with the Repeal V. Waiting for my M10 to hit my area and I’ll replicate this. Great review, 🎉Buona Pasqua!

Not sure why you were so surprised. KC18 around me is a 150 bottle that can be had easily for below 200. EC a little harder to find, but still in that range. Gatsby if very findable around me, but more 250 - 275. While the Michters is older juice, it is also technically the youngest of all. So is it surprising that a 200+ 15 yr beats a 185 10 yr? I think what it highlights most is that the KC18 and EC18 should be higher proof and less price to not be so disappointing in comparison when they are last to a 10 and 15.
If you watched his other two videos individually reviewing Gatsby and M10B, you'd understand why he was surprised. Not sure why you're not sure why he was so surprised.

If you go back and rewatch, I believe he said KC 18 was probably his second favorite.
I have had 13, 14, 16, 18, and 20 year olds. What I found out is I hate old bourbons.

EC 18 was a big disappointment, I sampled out more than half the bottle.
Gatsby had a lot of things going for it but it was incredibly overpriced for what it was IMO.
Cask strength at 97-98 proof? Thats gota be the lowest cask strength ever

Elijah Craig is dud, never buy it again. Knob Creek is good. Michter is expenisve.
That Knob is a 5.00 a yr bottle at best. It’s good. Not that good. So overpriced not even funny
