  • 4D Golf is a mind-bending game made by CodeParade, the creator of Hyperbolica. Set entirely in a 4-dimensional space, 4D Golf features over 120 levels and 7 vibrant worlds, tons of visualization options to master 4D space, and a level editor where players can make and share their own 4D courses.

Nice to watch someone apply a more methodical approach to 4D navigation instead of just swatting at the ball until it lands near the hole by accident.

This is super cool. Hyperbolica was a great idea, but I feel like the end result didn't really require hyperbolic space, and thus just felt a bit like a kinda trippy regular game. 4d golf everything really uses that 4th dimension, and it feels like you will have a much better experience if you do try to understand the space rather than just accept that the rules are a bit different.

Something about this video was just really cozy and relaxing. Maybe it's just because I'm so used to watching your Celeste videos, haha. Really nice!

You should always remember to fully explore the *Settings Menu* of any game.
"Volume Line", the Stereographic Compass, and other useful settings are all in there.

    Time for more mind-bending golf!
Much like with Hyperbolica, this game really feels like it was made primarily to let CodeParade go "hey, look at this cool spatial stuff!" It's so earnest, with all the little facts and stuff from the crystals.
As requested, shouting at you for failing to look at structures on a few of these.
When it comes to tesseracts, my first thought isn't Marvel at all, but rather A Wrinkle in Tine. Good book, Madeline L'Engle was one of my favorite authors as a kid/teen, and one of the rare people who is religious and incorporates strong religious themes in her works without making me want to vomit.
Just when I was thinking you might make the course under par, that last hole popped up =)

24:40 i don't think the up down compass has much purpose except confirming that you are in volume view, up is right physically but not visually so looking to the right might've hurt you there

Bro, this quality of content is not reflected in your views! I'm gonna binge your content now :D

I think it would be cool if this game had splitscreen for multiple simultaneous views.
Also, the ground texture needs some kind of parallax mapping. Maybe CodeParade will add that in an update.

the other thing that i've found to work in these situations (and might require a little less precision) is actually to hit the ball a little harder so that it clears the downslope and smacks into the flat part of the course, wasting a bunch of its kinetic energy to the bounce. in this one in particular i think you could theoretically hit it hard enough so that it hits the catching ramp at the back and actually bounces backward toward the hole, but i'm not totally sure. however, that strategy can make the last part of the hole after that one considerably easier, imo

This game makes my head spin too much (probably that's why there're so fewer views than Celeste?). I'm always trying to get a sense of what the level would look like (in 4D). It's really weird in my head as it's like a strange variation of a map with contour lines.
When the ball rolls downhill it always let me think of gradient descent. Probably should do less machine learning outside of my research...
Also to me it seems to be better not to hit the last stroke to the hole in volume mode, since you move freely in 3 dimensions in that view, and in normal view (where you adjust the angle to see the ball and the hole at the same time) if you know your path doesn't intersect with walls in an angle into the 4th dimension, the ball only moves freely in 2 dimensions (since gravity pulls the ball down naturally). That's purely my observations and might be incorrect though, I have not played the game myself.

      26:18 On duocylinders
The cartesian product of two sets S, T is just a set containing all pairs constructed by taking one element from each set S×T={(s,t) | s∈S, t∈T}.
The shape they described would be like {(x,y,z,w) | (x²+y²≤1, z²+w²≤1)}, so by taking the w direction as height, in volume view it would look like a cylinder with a fixed radius and it would be the longest in the middle of its height and gradually shrinks in length as you go higher or lower.
