    Yes, Byron becoming mayor + 1k choosing to embrace the Theory of Everything (+ saving Miranda) is the canonical ending of the base game, despite the seemingly endless combinations of possible choices and outcomes provided there. And I for one am totally glad they did it this way; it is indeed somewhat rare to have a story that so boldly depicts and discusses utopia. Plus, practically speaking, with the direction the 3rd game is planned to head in, there's no way they can bury the new technologies anyway.

    this puzzle zone is both good and bad designed. the good part is that the solution feels explorational, the bad part is that you need to redo the siderooms again to get certain stuffs (crystal, jelly) and it will become repetitive. Also I believe there is a way to do the level without using jelly climb, but I never check for that.

    I think the reasoning behind not being able to re-enter blocks in the void is because ideally, the void would be infinite, so there would be no walls to push against and no way to re-enter the blocks. However, there may be some programming limitation that prevents the void from having an infinite size, so as a compromise, the void is always 7x7, but blocks are not re-enterable.

    Demeter! She's certainly an interesting character the way Supergiant decided to use her. Plus her boons are really good. Like turning the cast into a laser beam turret. Wow that hydra fight got messy. You went in all confident that it would be an easy win, then the second wave of heads nearly destroyed you because you weren't taking it seriously. Cast being your main damage source is really starting to hurt now that you're in Elysium. Things here just don't often stay still long enough to get hit well by the beams, and none of your other damage options are holding up very well. Actually, I much prefer death defiance over stubborn, once DD is fully upgraded. The greater healing from each revive is far better at pushing through a single hard encounter, such as a boss, than one 30% heal per room. But anyway, congrats on beating Elysium again! Finally the faster cast tracking duo! I've been hoping all run for that to turn up. That was a good second attempt at Hades! That fight definitely requires a good bit of learning how to dodge the attacks, since he hits so incredibly hard.

    Damn dude, you're really good at solving these! Recalling the lesson learned from previous puzzles such as #9: Causation Nexus (where a box drops down four layers of blue barriers), and applying it to solve Hysteresis so quickly, without needing to be reminded of this mechanic by the other two Golden Gate puzzles, is pure flexing! You're actually the first Let's Player I've seen who solved Hysteresis properly. There are ways to cheese it; none of them are nearly as elegant as the intended solution. Most just involve each door opening for like a millisecond. In hindsight, as you have probably realized, all three of these Golden Gate puzzles are basically variations on the same laser blocking & switching mechanic. The only difference is how the lasers are switched (by a moving pillar; automatically via a triangle; by being blocked by the player's body). But it's really hard to conjure up this setup without any guidance, especially when Hysteresis is the first one most players will attempt, which in my opinion has the least amount of clues as to how to set up the switch. That's why I think it's really impressive how you solved it so quickly and without hints from later puzzles!

Also, I don't know how you're recording schedule is, so I'll say this now before you get there. yeah Orpheus is a guy, he isnt one of the muses and neither is Eurydice, however he was the son of the muse calliope. i would highly suggest reading up on the original myth of Orpheus as its a very beautiful story but in summary Eurydice died untimely and Orpheus tried to strike a deal with hades to bring her back, the condition being she would be allowed to follow him out of the underworld and back to the living as long as he didnt doubt she was there and didnt look back. Orpheus however was hit with indecision midway through the walk about to the surface and looked behind him, dooming them to be seperate forever.

    I keep trying to reply to your comment, but something's happening and the comment wont' save, so trying a new comment thread. Ambrosia is for gifting. After you gift enough Nectar to characters, their relationship bar (hearts) will lock. You'll then need to complete each character's Favor in order to progress. Each Favor is unique to the character. Once the Favor is complete, the relationship will unlock and you can start gifting Ambrosia. For a certain characters, after gifting the first Ambrosia, they'll also give Zag a new item (a Companion), which can be very useful and powerful on runs. Ambrosia are also used to upgrade Companions.

    "Why am I starting with 70 health?" you say, clearly having forgotten all about the mirror upgrade that raises your starting health =) I feel like you're seriously underestimating the value of raising your max health here. While avoiding damage is always what you want to be doing, there'll also be inevitable times when you slip up, and being able to have more of those slip-ups means the run goes longer and you make it further. Side Hustle was the Hermes boon you took that gives money every room. Yeah, no, fully-charged Artemis call is incredibly strong. Ooh, that 50% heal from After Party combined with Stubborn Defiance is very nice! Seems like you've finally picked up on how hard poms fall off in power as you keep stacking levels on a single thing. Woohoo, Styx again! And you're finally at least starting to get a handle on the Champions fight. Ooh, second path was it, lucky! Hades time! This scene is just so good, the voice acting is absolutely amazing here, even compared to how good it is the rest of the game. There was no way you were winning that fight your first try, but it was a good first attempt! Yeah, that Dark Thirst bonus changes weapons each time to encourage playing around with all of them. Supergiant has gotten pretty good at coming up with ways to incentivize changing up your loadout, though Transistor has my favorite implementation of that kind of design.

  • @callindykid
    @callindykid 5 днів тому

    Good run! Some answers on things you had questions on: The extra money you got when you reached the fountain room at the end of Tartarus is due to a mirror skill you have (gain a % of money when you clear an underworld region). The "Side Hustle" money you started getting in Asphodel is from the Hermes boon you just picked up (gain +10 money when you enter a chamber). Another thing easy to miss (that I also tended to miss) is that the icons for health and max life on boons/items look very similar. The health is a heart with a green + sign, while the max life is a heart with a green arrow pointing up. Very small difference and totally missable. On the first Aphrodite boon you picked up, one of your choices was increasing *max life* (any max life you pick up is worth a % more). It also seems like you missed this on the first Dionysus boon - you gain *max life* when you pick up a nectar (not health). If you ever forget or are not sure, you can see the help text on the left that always say whether it's max life or health. At the end, you picked up the "Dark Thirst mechanic on the weapons. The game randomly chooses a weapon to add "Dark Thirst", which means you gain extra Darkness each time you pick up that reward if you choose to do the run with that weapon. It's the game's way of encouraging the player to change up their weapon. You have an unlocked upgrade at the contractor to upgrade the Dark Thirst so you also gain extra gems as well for the Dark Thirst. Re: Fighting the bull alone as the mini-boss - If you beat him then, he does start with lower health in the final boss fight. As for your ongoing question about what contractor jobs give benefits, is that something you'd like an answer to?

      @@indiegamechris4759 It's for gifting. After you gift each character a certain number of Nectar, their relationship bar (hearts) will lock. You need to complete each character's Favor in order to progress. Favors are unique to each character. Once you complete the Favor, their relationship bar will unlock and you can start gifting Ambrosia. For a certain number of characters, after you gift them your first Ambrosia, they will give you a new gift (called a Companion) in return (just like the first time you gift them Nectar), and these new items can be pretty powerful and useful in your runs!

    The track here is an actual banger, maybe I will use it while playing the tower xvi or staying in celestecord. It also reminds of a track from a fanmade pizza tower level pack other tower that is called "a gravy train to nowhere", idk why.

    Remember when I commented about the one line in the main game ending about love? Orpheus ascending really felt like an answer to that. They took that one theme from the ending and expanded on it very well. It didn't really convince me that love is as important as they say, but all of the dialogue and texts definitely made me think deeper about it, and that's genuinely great! Orpheus ascending also much better established the theme of overcoming even death. I originally didn't like the story progression of resurrecting Miranda because I felt like it went against the themes of death and risks of technology. But with Orpheus ascending, it doesn't feel out of place anymore. I liked the puzzles, but they weren't my favorite of road to elysium. But as you can see, I think the story is really great for clarifying and expanding on parts of the main game story.

    39:17 Your idea of "connecting two brains to form a larger brain" reminds me of some medical experiments I've read before. In particular, when one hemisphere of a patient's brain is drugged and the other hemisphere is kept awake, the patient seems to exhibit a different personality. This personality living in one half of the brain was different in many ways from what the patient had been before. After the whole brain is awake again, this briefly exposed personality seems to be "absorbed". Or, to put it another way, a normal person appears to be a miniature hive mind consisting of at least two personalities. Many patients who have had their corpus callosum - the pathway that connects the right and left brain hemispheres - surgically severed have similarly fascinating behaviors. For example, patients are shown some pictures and asked to draw them out and explain why they are drawing them. As a result, they can draw things they see but will make up all sorts of spurious reasons as to why they are drawing these things. It was as if they had one personality responsible for watching and drawing, and another responsible for explaining. And since the connection between the two was severed, these two personalities began to do their own thing without the knowledge of the other one.

    Tip for the fishing points. The game will play a bell "ding". In an Encounter (room with enemies), the ding will play after you pick up your reward. In a non-Encounter room (like Charon's shop or Fountain rooms), the ding will play right when you enter the room. Once you notice it for the first time, it'll stand out moving forward. One thing that helped me with the gun is remapping the reload button. R3 seemed really odd for a reload button to me (since your right thumb is already occupied with dash and attack buttons), so I swapped the Codex and reload buttons (which, if my memory serves me, makes L1 the reload button and the Codex R3). Reloading with L1 is much faster than R3 (for me at least). Hope that helps!

    I would prefer watching you running back and forth for an hour doing that puzzle and talking whatever instead of stopping the recording or editing out. Honestly! Because, guess what, I'm here to see and hear you, not the game itself. Even if I want I could skip or fast forward. Highlight of your videos are always your rumblings for me.

    Cablog entry #PK: I think, if I crouch dash out of a dreamy thingy and then jump I will make these hypers more consistent! This might be useful if I ever try to get out of here other than writing messages in log. Seriously, try to do it, it is easier.

      It's hard for me to instant hyper with a crouch dash because of my button layout. I could bind crouch dash and jump to the same button, but I feel like that would stray into the realm of cheating. At this point, having been through the likes of Solar Express, I'm fine instant-hypering right after leaving dream blocks.

    Glad you decided to go the route of keeping full runs in the videos. While overall the same things happen each time, the specifics of how each run progresses can vary so much that it's pretty much always a good time watching. I'm not positive, but it definitely feels like the gun was just Supergiant messing around so they could put a gun in the game. Exagryph definitely takes the most getting used to out of all the weapons, I feet. The fact that its primary attack doesn't stun enemies means you really can't use it from close up the same way even the bow can be made to work. That said, with the right upgrades, it can get to be brokenly powerful. The myth Orpheus and Eurydice are from is clearly not one you know. While you probably have heard of it in general, you're lacking that instant connection of seeing the characters' names and already knowing their relationship. It'll be interesting to see how things go with you learning their history through what the game gives rather than pre-knowledge. That's assuming the Talos DLC hasn't filled in any of those blanks. You are bad about being alert for fishing points. Even when you just picked up an item to ensure one spawned, you managed to miss it! The Champions fight is a test of two things: how well you know their patterns and how good your current build is. With a decent build, they go down quite a bit faster, meaning you need to spend less time dodging or failing to dodge their attacks. With better understanding of their patterns, you can more easily dodge their attacks and compensate for a worse build, though the fight is definitely a bit of a slog without decent damage output..
