Except Yellow Submarine
I was a pre-teen when this came out. Like my peers, I was listening Britney, Christina, Backstreet Boys and *NSYNC. I enjoyed the music of that time, as it was ear candy, and still do for nostalgic reasons. I detested listening to my parents' music. I thought it was for old people. I was supposed to sing at a school recital performing Beatles songs but I refused to go, because I thought the music was stupid.
When "1" came out, there were endless commercials on TV for it, and I started hating them even more. Then, while on vacation, I was at a record store and saw the CD. I remember thinking, "What the hell, the music's stuck in my head from the commercials anyway, whether I like it or not. I guess I'll give in."
I fell in love with the group, and even as my musical taste has broadened (largely thanks to The Beatles), now at 31 years old, they're still my favorite band.
Nothing wrong with listening to all different styles of music ... even pop! Great personal comment, I appreciate you taking the time to write it.
My son is 28. Year's ago when we had a party in the late 90's I asked him what music we should play? He replied, "you can't go wrong with the Beatles!" I never forgot that. I guess I raised him right.
David Cooper that’s beautiful! :)
That's a great story and quite often true for many of us. I am a huge Beatles fan, however, would not listen to music earlier than the Beatles. One day I noticed the Beatles recorded Buddy Holly, Carl Perkins, Chuck Berry music. I decided to check these artists music out. I was surprised how good these artist were ! Buddy Holly is amazing and I can understand why the Beatles were such big fans. Paul McCartney owns the publishing rights ! Chuck Berry and Carl Perkins are absolute legends and wrote some the best "rock" songs of all time. Without carrying on any further, 'good music is always there, its just up to you to be open to look for it' !
In 1978 I was 12 years old when I was forced to spend the summer with my estranged father in California. He, his new wife and my siblings-in-law completely ignored me during my stay. At 12, with no money, no mobility and no way out, for the first time in my life I began to suffer from a deep depression. About a month in to that miserable summer, I was left alone one weekend to snoop around the house. And that's when I discovered the "Red" and "Blue" albums hiding in my step-brother's album rack. Having grown up in a small town where the only radio station signal we could get would endlessly play country music - I spent the entire weekend in The Den listening to - and re-listening to - the most amazing evolution in songwriting and music production ever created. Although I never saw my father again (and never really wanted to), discovering the Beatles' creative genius more than made up for everything.
Oh yeah - And I discovered Queen as well that year!
I appreciate you sharing that story. I’m sure it was not easy dredging up that memory up. Thank you.
@Moist-Mike, you sound amazing & deep shame on your father, such behaviour is fundamentally wrong & unforgivable! I pretty much came to the Beatles through Red & Blue & never looked back! You nailed it in respect of musical evolution & George Marin himself described it as breathtaking! I hope you've gone from strength to strength, sustained by the wonderful sound track of those 4 lads! 👍
Well stated Rob K!
@Magical Mystery Mike, thanks my friend & I can't abide men who bring children into this world & then go on to effectively disown them! On a lighter note, thanks to you for bringing this forward. The DVD is great & even my wife, who really doesn't care for the Beatles, admitted their undoubted genius! The very earliest stuff, largely unknown by the casual listener, is fantastic & forms part of the grass roots of rock & roll. Their mark & place in musical history is undeniable & i'm so thankful to have shared this brief window in time! 👍
Happy 80th Birthday to Ringo! ✌️& ❤️
Magical Mystery Mike me and my family got a cake for him, and we’re going to tweet him a photo.
Love this! I took my annual photo and I'm watching Ringo's Big Birthday Show! What a cool guy, even at 80 ... I hope Ringo is around another couple decades.
I know! He’s the best drummer, in my opinion!
I was supposed to see him for the first time in NYC last spring, but obviously, the show did not go on. I really hope it'll happen next year!
Me too, and thanks for subscribing!
1 made me a Beatles fan for life at 19 years old where I am still collecting memorabilia to this day, and I think it launched a whole new generation of Beatles fans for the 21st century
I absolutely love reading these comments. I did not realize what an influence this album had on "...a whole new generation of Beatles fans..." Here you are 20 years later, still a fan! That's excellent. Thank you for sharing this comment!
I think it was Derek Taylor who wrote on the liner notes for 'Beatles For Sale' released in 1964 something along the lines of 'In the year 2000 the kids of that time will still be listening to the Beatles', very prophetic and he went out on a limb making a comment like that, a lot of people would have laughed at him.
And in the early 70's (when I was just coming into my teens) I remember telling a school mate 'I will get all the Beatles albums eventually',..he replied 'no you won't' in a dismissive tone and he was right, I didn't,...no, only joking, I did buy all the vinyl from around '72 to '76,...and the 80's cds, kind of wish I hadn't if I knew they were going to remastered but it would have been a long wait.
I was the same age when I got it! Took me a few more years and a hospital stay listening to Abbey Road to get me really invested though!
A loooooooooong wait on those CDs!
I am extremely thankful for your reaction to this video. It's been well viewed, there are plenty of likes, and many of you left thoughtful comments. I appreciate your passion for The Beatles and the positive feedback. More to come...
Thanks again!
This was actually my first Beatles CD, and I’ve been hooked ever since I heard the first harmonica part in love me do. Anytime I see the cd out I have fond memories of that summer sitting in my parents car and popping this baby in, thank you Mom and Dad.
Beautiful. It's wonderful you have those memories, and what will likely be a lifelong appreciation of The Beatles. Thank you for sharing this.
This was the first CD I bought for myself. When everyone my age was listening to NSync or the Backstreet Boys, I was listening to The Beatles
Good man; rock on!
You’re so cool
You’re not special
@@billyevans2784 everybody was born special, admit it, we all look, sound, behaves differently, there's no way any one can be 100% the same with another, thus making every one special
This was my very first Beatles album. I got it in around maybe 2008 or ‘09. I listened to it so much. I still, to this day, have most of the track list memorized, and I wore out my copy to the point where it would skip on “Help!”, and I’d always flip through the little booklet with all the single covers. This album holds a very, very special place in my heart. ❤️
Isn't it so great how music grabs a hold of us and can become a time capsule for our memories? Hearing songs from a particular time floods the mind with such vivid recollections. Funny the way that works.
Well all know that “One and One and One Is three.....”😂

I still remember getting this CD from my grandma for Christmas, along with a very early (and skip-prone) CD walkman. She got those CD walkman players for all of my cousins too, but I think I was the only one to get Beatles One. I still remember sitting on the sofa in her living room and listening to it on Christmas Day! Although I'd been a big Beatles fan already, it was still a great time to listen to all those tracks again. :)
These are stories I love reading. How great is that? So awesome that this music gets passed down and enjoyed from generation to generation.
This was my first Beatles album and my parents later got the rest of the 87 cds when I was 8 in 2012 along with Past Masters Vol. 1 and 2, 1962-1966 1967-1970, Yellow Submarine Songtrack, Let It Be… Naked, and Love. Yes I know I know the 2009 digipaks were out but I have a soft spot for the 87 cds as it was all I had, yes I know I was raised right.
Some of those '87 CDs are actually pretty good.
For lots of Beatles fans my age (I’m in my 20’s), this was our first Beatles album.
So I've come to understand. Very cool. Have you taken a deeper dive into the original studio albums since?
Magical Mystery Mike oh yes I definitely have! I got into this album when I was 13/14. After that I immediately did a deep dive, discovered that Pepper is my favorite, my favorite Beatle always changes between John and Paul, discovered their solo work, practically studied them. A good chunk of my brain is just Beatles info 😂
Angel Quintas excellent!
There certainly is a rich musical legacy in these recordings!

I was in high school when this came out and some of my classmates were listening to this. I was already a Beatles fan, but having all of their albums, I didn't get it till a couple years later. I remember making a cassette version of this adding in please please me, strawberry fields and revolution onto the album.
Amazing how much of an influence this compilation had on bringing in new fans.
I cant believe they didnt put Strawberry Fields on it😂😢🤷♂️❤
drB F well, it should have been as one side of the double A side, but space constraints, I suppose, in addition to wanting new fans to be left wanting more.
@@MagicalMysteryMike If I remember correctly, the record only got to #2 because both sides were charted and they cancelled each other out - only to be usurped by Engelbert Humperdinck....now, WHO ever came up with THAT name?
@@aristobulus8754 yes. Not having Strawberry Fields Forever included was the biggest and most blatant flaw of the release.
As an avid, obsessive Beatles fan since 19997 and self-proclaimed 1st degree audiophile (3rd degree being spending thousands of dollars on audio equipment, etc.), I've gotten each new iteration both for completist collector's sake and the new masters/mixes, however subtle the differences may be, respectively. Listening for the fist time to each new generation is a joy, always full of surprises. I regret nothing.

I discovered The Beatles with the blue and red compilation in 96, and i still believe its the best compilation ever from the band
Damián Gularte I’d have to agree that Red and Blue are a really great career retrospective. Not perfect, but pretty close. Of course, the original studio albums are all great as well. My last video I posted was on Red & Blue.
this actually was my introduction to the beatles. i was excited to find out a deluxe version of 1 was available so i got it and it hasn't disappointed yet me
That’s great. The remixed version of 1 is quite good!

@@Vince_Tasciotti It's all downhill from here; 1 way to nowhere!
Actually, 1 was the first ever Beatles album I ever heard, and that was the start to my Beatlemania
I've heard this sentiment many times. That this was the case, totally justifies this release! Thanks for sharing.
Magical Mystery Mike of course, thanks for this great Beatle content! :D
Thanks for watching. I enjoy making this content, for one person, or the most people it reach. :)
Getting the Red album for my 16th birthday in 1979 was the start of my resurgence of Beatlemania. I was just a kid who liked them before, but I gave them up for KISS, and now I'm back to normal.
I am loving hearing stories like these. I'm working on a follow up video to cover the red and the blue. I am just amazed how much attention this video has received, and how much this album has meant to fans; especially those who's experience of 1 was their gateway to The Beatles.
I still remember the bonus red shirt that my dad had when he bought the album back in 2000.
Awesome!
I’ve never appreciated a band more than the Beatles - they’re a miracle
What they accomplished is pretty miraculous.
My music teacher had a copy of 1 from it's 2009 remaster. When i was a Junior in high school about 2 years ago, her and i showed it to the 4th grade class at my school during their music period. And boy, were they amazed. Cover art, CD and all. One kid commented on how cool Ringo looked with the dove on his finger in his Avedon portrait. (Which if you could tell, is my UA-cam profile pic.) Their favourites had to be Help, Day Tripper, We can work it out, and, rightfully so, Yellow Submarine. You couldn't believe the happiness i felt watching those kids enjoy it as much as they did. It made me look back to when i was first introduced to The Beatles back in 2003, which was actually 1 itself. I was only 3, and i was instantly hooked. The Beatles have been my favorite ever since. Thanks so much for the video!
Wow, thanks for the personal story. I enjoyed reading that.
A truly epic acknowledgement of a superior and well produced media compilation that we all deemed needed. Kaa!
Always a pleasure to hear from the good doc! I don't know if I deemed 1 needed. I was pretty happy with 1962-1966 / 1967-1970, but it is a nice collection nonetheless, and it certainly did the trick to bring in a new generation of fans.
I remember the paid programming ad for this album back in 2000-01. That was pretty much my first exposure to the Beatles.
Isn't that interesting? It wasn't only uphill from there, I hope!
In the year 2070, this will be a collector's item. Whatever format exists then will still be playing these songs by the four remarkable Beatles. Music is a reflection of the soul and its emotions. These creations will resonate forever.
Excellent comment! Even better to survive as a career retrospective would be 1962-1966 & 1967-1970. I should do a video on these ... hmmm. Check in tomorrow to see.
I got the dvd and cd one from target as a almost over a year tab fan long live The Beatles the best music in history ✌️

There certainly is a nostalgic quality to this music.

Got my copy around the same time that I got my driver’s license and it stayed in my car for like 6 years. So many great memories getting lost and listening to the Beatles. Still wish it had strawberry fields forever.
Sounds like great memories, man. I hear ya on SFF. I wish A Day In the Life was included on the Yellow Sub. Soundtrack. They always gotta hold back a little.
Magical Mystery Mike you should get the LP set. Totally worth it. Beautiful packaging. I have a video about it if you want to check it out.
I've probably watched it already. ;)
I'm holding back on any new purchases right now. Forcing myself to revisit what I have. I'll definitely check out any new Let It Be releases, but otherwise I've cut myself off for the time being.
I had originally bought this for my brother's birthday just after its original release and he really enjoyed it. At the time (tighter budget) I didn't find it essential, so I skipped it, but ended up with a copy just before the remastered one. When 1+ was released, I picked it up as soon as I could, I had bootleg DVDs of the videos that were happily retired at that time.
this album made me a fan!!
Excellent! This statement has been echoed many times! :)
This was my first Beatles CD, and it opened me to a whole world of great music!
That's fantastic to hear. It does seem to hold a certain nostalgia, as do other Beatles compilations, like the Red and Blue, or the albums proper for that matter.
who else here is still waiting for 2?
2? I'm waiting for 1X2, 3, 4, and 5!
This album my introduction to The Beatles. I was 10 years old when it was released, and I remember enjoying the more rock and roll songs, but felt weird about the other songs. Now I love the psychedelic songs even more than the rock and roll ones!
LOL! I'm glad you got over that "weird" feeling and embraced the psychedelic songs as well. So many different styles. Amazing the evolution of the band between Please Please Me and Abbey Road.

Giles Martin made the The Beatles White Album sound ready for 2020 Love George Martins work, but Gile's honestly made it Future proof for another 100 years
That's quite an endorsement! i have been happy with Giles Martin's work as well, but I like that the original mixes are still available. No reason both can't live side by side.
I got given an original issue Rubber soul album in 1974 from my Dad's friend. Played it to death. It was thrown out eventually like all records were at the time. By the late 70s the Beatles weren't cool anymore. I saw the Anthology series on tv and I fell in love with the music of my childhood again. I bought the 1+ when it came out.
Great personal story. I really enjoy reading comments like this! I remember watching the Anthology series too at it's time of release, and feeling that jolt of fab fandom. Happened again in 2009, when I first got the IN MONO box set.
I’m 15- and I’ve been listening to the beatles for around 1.5 years now- I absolutely love them- im looking to get all their albums on vinyl (I already have the white album, magical mystery tour, please please me and sgt pepper,) I love old music- even though I’m only 15, I feel so happy whenever someone says that old music is better- because it’s 100% true! Even if you like the newer rap music, that’s okay , it’s your opinion- but! It’s nice to know that people understand the music from the 50s , 60s, 70s exc was better -- especially the Beatles ;)
Very cool! Nice to see you are open to all kinds of music. Great music is great music. Beethoven died nearly 200 years ago, but his music is still great!
I own the original 1 and the 1+ on Blu-ray. Since the latter wasn’t available in Brazil, it was a bit of a struggle to get it.
I have such fond memories of listening to the original CD on the bus with a friend from college, each one with one earpiece (and getting the hysterical stereo separations...). She found this characteristic of the sound very weird.
Also (true story), I was so glad when I got my Blu-ray that, when I played the first video (“Love Me Do”) and that simple, but amazing animation popped-up before it, I started crying like a baby... I love The Beatles and they are a huge part of my life and the lives of many people I know and love. I’m 38 right now, they were long split before I was even born, but I feel like they’ve been huge my entire life, even bigger than a lot of the acts that came and went while I was growing up.
Fab comment. Thank you for sharing you personal experience.
Can’t believe here comes the sun never went number one, probably the most popular Beatles song atm
It's my favorite GH song, and one of my favorite songs by The Beatles in general.
1 was my first physical Beatles album we've bought.
I was walking on my local stationery shop, wondering around when suddenly I saw the 1 album (deluxe yellow edition), it has been sitting there waiting to be purchased, in the back of the 1 album was the 1 album (red) & Live at the Hollywood Bowl, I bought the yellow one because it has video & it looked cool, I told my mother If I can buy it, she said sure, and went to the cashier.
The next year (2020) the cd rack was gone, they replaced it with the 2nd toy section (who needs a 2nd toy section?), I enjoyed the "archived" videos & soundtrack, sometimes I brought the album with me, like I brought it to a hotel.
Later I stopped streaming music and moved to physical media, without the 1 (yellow deluxe edition) there will be no Beatles cd collection.
CDs are disappearing more and more. Sad. Glad you scored that Yellow 1 with the DVD. That's a good set. Enjoy!
Never understood Why revolution wasn’t included.
I can explain it for you - Revolution was the B-side to Hey Jude.
Yes, B-Side.
@@stevena9305 yeah, but in some places, this single was a double A side, and it was number 1, it should be a sequel of this album, with number 1 tracks around the world.
Lucas Diego hi Lucas - it was indeed but the concept of the ‘1’ album was to present The Beatles UK No. 1 singles.
Well, actually it was No. 1s in not only UK, but US also. Remember, Yesterday wasn't even issued as a single in the UK. That's one example. Some tracks were left off. I believe the main reason was to leave newer fans wanting more.
I have always enjoyed Beatles music growing up with it on the radio, but it wasn't until I got this album that I started calling myself a Beatles Fan. 1 is truly a brilliant album! I especially love Avedon's artwork on the inlay. I have both the original 2000 print and the 2009 reissue, although I do plan to get the 1+ Deluxe edition someday.
I could have "beat the like button" considering, but I did actually enjoy the video. Not only did you review the history of each release, and how the concept of 1 came to be, but you went through each of the unique differences in each reissue
with great detail. I'm all over that kind of stuff! Also if you took some of these photos yourself, then you have a very impressive Beatles CD collection! I've always preferred CDs over vinyl so it's cool to see I'm not the only one.

The first vinyl I had was the Beatles 1, It's a good compilation from the best band ever
Not a bad first record! It is a good compilation to start with. 1962-1966 & 1967-1970 are even better for a bit of a deeper dive!

That would’ve been legendary. But anyway, I really enjoyed your video, nice work.

This one and Queen greatest hits 1 are the two best compilations albums for me, (at least among artists i love)
Agreed, for sure! Billy Joel's Greatest Hits Volume I and Volume II is another hits collection that stands out.
This album made me the fan I am today I always look back on that day and laugh at my naivety my dad received this for Christmas and I teased him for it not knowing who The Beatles are then just razzing him because he was old. One day feeling silly I decided to play the album while my dad was sleeping and giggle and make fun of it AGAIN not knowing who the The Beatles are at this point just making up a perception in my head of what they are as I honestly believe a lot of haters of The Beatles do. And the moment Love Me Do started and I heard them sing for the first time it was as if the music reached out of my speaker and caressed my heart. The CD soon became my own because I never stopped playing it I was eventually given my own copy for my birthday this album is a great start for people who want to understand why The Beatles are so great.
Great personal story; thanks for sharing it. Glad you were open minded enough to appreciate this music!
Love number 1. You can’t have a bad track. It’s a no brainer.
It's great for having set out what it intended ... create a single disc compilation that existing fans would enjoy, while introducing new fans!
I would say this album and the Red and Blue albums is what got me really into The Beatles.
This is a comment I’ve heard more than any other. For me, it was 20 Greatest Hits, followed by the red and blue albums. 😊
I introduced my friend to the Beatles using this album. I think it is a good starting point for most people.
Also got the 1+ box set which I think is really worth the price of admission!
Now that's the gift that keeps on giving'; what a pal! I agree, it's a good starting point, and also agree on the 1+ set being oh so worthwhile.
i have every Beatles album on CD and I am now collecting them all on vinyl...
I never bought the 1 album because I already had everything on it on the original albums....
you may have changed my mind.
Well, it's certainly not required, but a nice addition toward the end, I'd imagine.
This was the album that got me into them. They have been my favorite band since 2005.
Excellent!
I basically ignored "1" when it came out because I was resentful the CD catalogue hadn't been remastered at that point, and needed it badly. Finally, after I'd scooped up the stereo and mono versions of the albums as well as the Past Master series, in 2009, I saw rumblings of #1 being reissued and sought out the 1+ version on DVD with 2 DVDs of videos as well as the original compilation album. Now, THAT's what I would call a compilation.
Absolutely! Thank goodness for 2009! As far as the 1 reissue, it certainly was very well done as 1+. The addition of all that video content was stellar!
For someone who needs everything to be at its best, I'm surprised you didn't get the blu-ray of 1+.
thanks:)
You're welcome!
I have the Beatles 1 bluray box set and also the vinyl. Great sound quality on both.
I know he's not universally praised, but I think Giles Martin and team have done a nice job on remixing.
@@MagicalMysteryMike I agree with you. I like how he remixed Sgt. Peppers but not so much on The White album. He toned down the sound quality, he said he didn't want it too HI-FI. Abbey Road was a good sounding recording to begin with. I'm a fan of his work. I'm curious what he did with Let it be.
Absolutely. Really curious how Let It Be will be handled.
No mention of the new mixes of Free as a Bird and Real Love on the 1+ Blu-ray?
No. While they are quite nice, I was more interested in presenting the format of the original release. All of the video content on 1+ is excellent. It was well overdue by the time it was released!
Since the early 2000s, I imagined having a DVD with promotional films officially produced by the Beatles. With this in mind, I purchased the double bootleg "Chronology". But I only felt fulfilled, that's when I saw the launch of 1+. Finally, I had those videos, officially and with excellent quality.
In other words: the audios remixed by Giles were in the background for me.
Yes, 1+ was all about that restored video that had been overlooked far too long!
I had some video bootlegs on VHS, but I don't know if it was called Chronology - it was right after a weekend of Beatlefest and I wanted to keep Beatlefest alive after Monday.
There's so much out there, it's hard to keep track. I try to stick to the official stuff.
Great cd, I have the original cd (with the hype sticker), I'm going to get the original vinyl and the cd/dvd release one day.
Excellent. It is a nice collection of songs, for sure.
This was the first Beatles album I ever heard. It was my dad's old battered original CD that we put on the car CD player while we washed it. He let me choose a CD out of his collection and I chose the Beatles because although I was 8, I had heard of them and I knew they were the best band of all time and wanted to see what they were like.
That's a solid memory! Thanks for sharing it with us.
@@MagicalMysteryMike no problem! I've been binging some of your content for the last few days 😅
I remember listening to the Beatles one I have been a huge Beatles fan since I was 11 years old I think there was a cassette version of that which came out years back I listen to a compilation now I’m not there and I immediately fell in love with the Beatles
I love listening to the Beatles one album on CD and vinyl I can’t wait to get the one in deluxe.
I love everything that the Beatles have done not only do I love the Beatles White album but I also love the Beatles 1962 to 1966 and 1967 to 1970 I think those two albums are a great way for those who want to get into the Beatles
I love the remixed stuff that Giles martin dead on the Beatles one album it is a really great.
Thanks for sharing your experience. I got into The Beatles around age 11 too. :)
Man, I'll never forget picking this up at 15. The second John's harmonica ripped through the speakers on "Love Me Do" it was all over. Sure, you grow up hearing Beatles songs almost subconsciously, it's like how everyone knows that Darth Vader is a certain someone's father. But that song and this album in a way were my first.
You share an experience that we fans have all had at one point or another.
Darth Vader in the 2020 version of the ending of Return of the Jedi : "Luke, help me put my mask back on. And I'll keep the gloves on too. In fact, just get me to my Bacta Tank filled with hand sanitizer."
Hi Mike.
It is a nice collection of songs, The Beatles 1 album. The vinyl version sounds great.
The 1+ Blurays are a must have.
But I prefer the Red and Blue albums. Those albums were my Beatles start off back in 1976.
By the way ........ these videos of Beatles box sets are very enjoyable.
Thanks for the encouragement! I agree with you on the "red" and "blue". I played the heck out of my cassette version of 1967-1970 in the early 90's. My first compilation, and one of the first albums I ever owned, was the cassette of the US version of 20 Greatest Hits. So, that one has some sentimental value for me.
They should include Please Please Me and Strawberry Fields, both of them were #1 in charts at the time.
Can't win 'em all. The Red and Blue are still my go to, but this is a great single disk collection.
Still have mine 😁
Me too. Still have 1, and 1, and 1, and 1+. It's all too much! ;)
I have two copies of the vinyl version of 1. The first is from 2000 and the second came out in 2015. On CD I have the 2009 reissue and the 1+ CD/DVD box set. I may consider getting the 1+ CD/BluRay edition.
1+ is worth having. It's a well put together package. Just be sure to look out for DVD or Blu-Ray. They look similar, so be sure you're getting the edition you'd like.
1 was my intro to the Beatles. I got it for Christmas from my dad when I was young and starting to get into classic rock. I dismissed it for about a year, The Beatles were a bit too pop in my mind. Plus, most of my friends were into metal or rap, it wouldn't be cool to listen to The Beatles.
Then something changed. I was always into space, and NASA had this thing on their website celebrating their 50th anniversary. One of the things on the site was a music video featuring Across the Universe. It was then that I started to understand The Beatles. I got my copy of 1, took my Aerosmith compilation out of my CD player, and put in 1. I was mesmerized.
Really enjoying these comments. What do you mean that NASA had "this thing on their website?" You mean they had the 1 album displayed or playing?
P.S. It's Ringo's birthday today, and he was wished a happy day from space. Pretty cool!
@@MagicalMysteryMike
They had this video on their website:
ua-cam.com/video/aYrGBB3kdM8/v-deo.html
Across the universe isn't on 1 of course, but hearing that song in that context made me want to go back and listen to 1 with open ears and an open mind
That's great! Glad you found your way back in.
I had rarities on cassette when I was younger lol
Not bad. I never picked that one up on cassette before I abandoned the format.
That was in fact my introduction to The Beatles. I fell in love with it/them right away. I own a copy of basically all of them. 2000, 2009 und 2015 (the 1+ version). What impresses me the most is what can be done technically if you have the money to do it.. all of 1+ sounds and looks soo great and evertime I'm speechless that this material comes from the 60ties.
It is pretty amazing. The studio recordings are so well done, and found so good for recordings that are 50+ years old.
1 is the album that got me into the Beatles in the first place, thanks Apple Records.
So many comments have come in like this that I've mentioned it, and featured some (being respectful of each viewer's privacy) in my latest video, which I will be publishing tomorrow. Stay tuned. :)
Honestly, when "1" originally came out in 2000, I pulled a "Dave Dexter" and didn't think it would be a hit. How wrong I was. I have since grown to love this single disc compilation, but originally thought that anyone trying to investigate and learn about The Beatles would buy "1962-1966" and "1967-1970" instead, for a more thorough coverage of their career that didn't just have singles.
You make a good point.
Man, the Beatles' 20 Greatest Hits US Capitol version on cassette was the first album I ever bought. I played that tape everyday!
That exact release, on cassette, was the 2nd album I ever bought. I also played the heck out if it ... on a walkman! hahaha
@@MagicalMysteryMike Awesome
For the 40 who put thumbs down need help.
Nice of you to write. I'm quite happy with how this video has done, so I'll endure the thumbs down that go along with that.
Loved the first 2000 edition, then I heard the 2015 mixes and I went bonkers esp on what they did with Hey Jude! 😍😍😍
Shame the whole catalogue wasn't remixed and released as a box set, like the 2009 remasters.
@@MagicalMysteryMike yes. I would love to hear all of them remixed esp. RUBBER SOUL and REVOLVER!
From your keyboard to Apple's eyes!
Buy everything Beatles related, but start with the UK studio albums in mono and listen in order with headphones.
Agreed, this is a great way to immerse oneself in The Beatles. Not the only way, but a very good way!
is 1+ worth it? as a Giles follower i am on the fence about whether or not to get 1+ or the standard 2015 reissue, since i don’t see myself using the DVDs much.
It’s worth it for the packaging. Comes in a nice book-sized package with a nice book.
Beatles by the Numbers
1.6 billion - Number of Beatles records (singles) sold in the U.S. (2.3 billion worldwide)
600 million - Number of Beatles albums sold worldwide.
177 million - Number of albums sold in the U.S.
73 million - February 9, 1964 The Beatles perform on "The Ed Sullivan Show" and are watched by a record-setting 73 million people.
31 million - Worldwide sales of 1 had exceeded 31 million copies Selling 13.5 million copies in its first month.
5 & 12 - On April 4, 1964, the Beatles held the top five slots on the Billboard list of top sellers:
1. Can't Buy Me Love
2. Twist and Shout
3. She Loves You
4. I Want To Hold Your Hand
5. Please Please Me
Also positions 16, 44, 49, 69, 78, 84, 88, for a total of 12, plus four album positions including the top two.
One week later, fourteen of the top one hundred songs were the Beatles, a feat unmatched before or since.
It's very impressive!
1+ had some unique stereo mixes of songs not on the CD, like Rain, Strawberry Fields Forever, A Day In The Life, and had Redux mix of Free as a Bird and Real Love had had some changes (like added/removed instrument layers, more of George's Guitar work, some addes Ringo drum fills, and 'turned out nice again' was not backwards)
I had to screen capture in order to get MP3s of them.
These are nice features of 1+. It was definitely a worthwhile repackage!
Qual a diferença entre cd 1 capa de plastico para cd 1 Digipack?
As gravações remasterizadas de 2009 foram usadas. Depois vieram novos remixes.
i liked it because I have it on cd and vinyl, both are the 2015 remastered versions
1 more person loving 1!
I have the 2000 CD release and the 2015 1+ DVD set. I love the new remixes, especially Day Tripper and We Can Work It Out.
I welcome additional remixes. I do not think they should replace the original mixes, but I love 'em as alternates.
First album I ever owned!
Sweet! That's a heck of a start.
Qual a diferença entre cd 1capa acrílica e cd 1 Digipack?
As gravações remasterizadas de 2009 foram usadas. Depois vieram novos remixes.
I know the first “1” was hated due to the mastering, but I’ve actually become quite fond of it. The 2009 had the AHDN flaw, and the remixed “1” had weird versions of songs like “Eight Days A Week” and “Ballad of J & Y.”
I wish I had an album so hated it sold millions of copies. ;) When it comes to The Beatles there are always haters, critical of every aspect of a new release. Sometimes it's justified, sometimes not. Overall, The Beatles product offers value, but nobody's perfect ... not even The Beatles.
Some fantastic music on this album of course, but on it's release I was a bit disappointed, no Strawberry Fields or Please Please Me, I know that they were not number 1's, but for me it would have been better to have a double CD one disc called 'A' and the other called 'B', a collection of all the UK A and B sides all in one place, I have great memories of these singles and think it would have made a brilliant collection. Great video !
I think this was more designed for the casual fan. The CD Singles and EP Boxes from the early 90's were for the hard core fans.
I did make a B-side compilation, with both the British and American versions where applicable.
@@QuartetDude That's an interesting idea. I might have to create a playlist and give that a listen.
Oh, yeah. For example, I Want to Hold Your Hand had This Boy as the Parlophone B-side and I Saw Her Standing There as the Capitol B-side. Same goes for A Hard Day's Night (Things We Said Today in the UK, I Should Have Known Better in the US). Everything else was consistant, where apllicable.
@@QuartetDude I made one with just George's songs - sounded great all together.
There are three versions of this compilation: 2000, 2010 and 2015, each one differs from the others. The 2000 remasters of the original mixes, the 2009 remasters of the original mixes and the 2015 full remixes, made from scratch. I don't see any point of buying the second 2010 version, because there's nothing new as far as the 2009 remasters have been widely spread on the CDs of that era. But the first and the third versions are unique and worth buying.
what is that background song?
The title is "Shapes of Things." It's a usable soundtrack included with iMovie.
I thought 1+1+1 is 3 referred to 3 Beatles just like the back of Abbey Road cover at the side of where it says Beatles are some dots, if you join the dots you get the number 3, also 3 strings on the left handed guitar wreath over the grave which reads Paul? I must have watched the Winged Beatle too many times lol
Here's another clue for you all ... Ringo's birthday bash was missing Paul. Well, he appeared in an older clip of some concert footage with Ringo, but no recent message. What's up with that? Very curious ... the mystery continues.
Just got the CD yesterday at Walmart :D
Not a bag little purchase, huh? There are certainly worse things you could spent your hard earned cash on!
Oh yeah Mr. Mike I own 2 vinyl, 6 different CDs & 1 dvd - 1 blue ray. I dig all that stuff thanks
I'm sorry (not sorry) to inform you that you'd likely be diagnosed with Beatpolar Disorder. ;)
Magical Mystery Mike I call it spoiled
@@thinkbeatles it's The Beatles ... you're forgiven.
My first beatles album before I went to buy their studio albums
The drop out on Day Tripper after "TRIED TO PLEASE HER" was artificIally repaired.
Not sure I ever noticed that.
