@@Hamon_Beat Nah the part that bothers me isn't that they didn't have the mask's backstory or that they cut parts of the childhood section it's that Speedwagon is made useless in the Anime
The reason why the manga is better: -The Prologue Chapter -Speedwagon riding a speedwagon -Danny And Erina have more screentime -Speedwagon kicks some zombie ass with a sledgehammer -The Art of the manga on the final battle of Jonathan and Dio is better than the anime.
It really depends if you ask me. Personally, I feel the anime does a great job of running through all the fundamentals of what you need from Part 1 while also making it feel more like it's a part of a much larger story such as when we see the star birthmark on Jonathan's back and so on which is important for an adaptation. It's also the reason why the art itself is not as amazing as what it is in the manga since in a manga, it's a single illustration which someone can spend any amount of time on especially when it gets to the collected volumes and thus they naturally are gonna have more detailed drawings whereas the anime is trying to make these character models into workable, animation-friendly models.
I don't like how the anime adaptation for Phantom Blood was so rushed. I remember watching it for the first time before I had any exposure to the series and thinking "I feel like this would work better as a manga." After reading the manga, I felt a much stronger connection to Jonathan as a character and this part in general.
If the proportion between the number of manga volumes and number of anime episodes for parts 1 and 2 were the same, part 1 would have been 12 episodes. (5/12 = 7/17) Twelve! With the same pacing as the anime's Battle Tendency (which is already pretty fast compared to the manga), Phantom Blood would have been an entire hour longer! So rushed...
the thing is that they went with 5 chapters per episodes..which if you count that up (5 chapters× 19 pages each = 95 pages), in which at some good pace weekly manga anime..they would usually adapt like 2-4 chapters per episodes, a fairly good amount tbh..jojo's ones was too much
1:17 I wish they didn't cut that scene out. Not only does it make Jonathan more relatable but it also foreshadows him telling Erina to escape with baby Lisa lisa
@@gilmsgabriel oh yeahhhhh. He did said that his mom saved him when he was a baby. And now Erina has to save a newborn they didn’t know when Jonathan was gonna die
Oh, so that scene with Speedwagon was Erina's first moment of outright intimidation, wish they kept it, it's really jarring to see Erina in part 2 be so cold without the context.
PB really got the worst of it when it comes to the anime omitting things. It's a shame, since there's so many good things in there, and there's even events that re-contextualize certain things for someone who's only seen the anime. I still think the anime is a worthy successor of the manga, but reading the manga for PB and the other Parts is always worth it. Regardless, PB is definitively my favorite Part, and every Part after it also had things omitted.

@@NotAFederalAgent- It might just be you. I know people who also don't want to or can't really get into manga. It could just be your preference, which is entirely valid. Manga has it's definite advantages (such as better pacing, more detailed or flat out better art, the mangaka's original intent, and often more consistent and plentiful updates), but anime has it's advantages over manga, too. It's a good thing DP adapts Jojo as close to the manga as much as possible, and tries to stay true to and respect Araki's ideas. DP isn't the only studio like this, of course, but there are so many anime adaptations that either completely deviate from the source material or just butcher it entirely. Hell, APPP kinda did that to Jojo with the OVA's (and the PB film practically nobody has seen, myself included). The OVA's are great, and I'd say they're still worth a watch (they do great things with tone, animation and fight choreography) but they do completely eliminate large swathes of the manga. Based DP has given us a whole lot, and many other studios do good work like them, so anime is just fine.
I agree with most of the changes made in the anime. Sure, they may make certain aspects confusing, but a lot of the time the original scenes screw up the pacing or don't flow well. Like the scene where Jojo's relationship with danny is explained, while it does have important character development, it comes out of nowhere and goes nowhere (the scene where they explain where the mask comes from suffers the exact same fate as well).

This comment is old, but im gonna respond to it anyway Part 3 was the most famoust part of jojo at the moment and the one that mede jojo such a famous franchise Thats why they rushed into getting to part 3, so give the fans what they wanted
I think that the Part 1manga was so much more interesting the anime. It had extended scenes that painted a picture to you, while the anime just quickly glossed over them. However this is the only part that I prefer the manga over the anime.
Some other minor things: •In the manga, there’s a short bit involving a few panels where Zeppeli flicks the cap of his salt shaker, which causes it to crack and burst open (probability another indication of Zeppeli’s extraordinary physical capability like jumping several feet off the wall from a sitting position) •In the manga. Zeppeli details that he knows that Dio and the mask are still around because he overheard the Chinese man in a public square talking about how he was going to go investigate the burned down Joestar mansion shortly before going missing.
I liked in the manga when Zeppeli asks for a corkscrew out of nowhere (with no response from anyone) before opening the wine bottle from the bottom. I thought it set the scene up hilariously (the anime he puts the just hole in the bottom with no setup) and made me instantly love the character. I really liked the manga a lot more than the anime
I think a lot more people would like Phantom Blood more if they cared to add some of the stuff only present in the manga... The manga ends up having a lot more depth in that part.
Not really… It’s still the same story, and all the characters have the same depth in both mediums. What does the rings challenge add to the story?, does Speedwagon’s friend make the story any better?
@@thechugg4372 The few characters in DP’s Manga with some development are kept the same in the adaptaion. Speedwagon (Whose arc is stupid), Bruford, Dio and Jonathan
Erina seemed to have a lot more personality in the manga, it's understandable that they made her more of a supporting character in the anime adaptation but it's still a shame we don't get to see those scenes.
When watching the anime I got so confused as to who Wang Chan was when he appeared in the anime in the last fight Now seeing the manga giving much more foreshadowing and setup for Wang Chan being the one to carry Dio (more emphasis on his potion scene AND a fight before his return), really makes me wish DP was a bit less rushed with this part
there's one more difference that I know of, but probably doesn't count a a difference, but, in the scene where Dio turns a mother into a vampire, the manga shows her eating her baby, while in the amime, you just see her shadow
I probably needed an encouragement to read the manga, and this works way better for me than "anime bad for cutting out stuff", as I've gained a greater appreciation for anime adjustments over the years.
I am thankful for you to make these videos pointing out the diffrences. I was planning on actually reading the manga to find the diffrences but that would have taken me literal months
i wish David Production would remake both Part 1 and 2, with music by Yuugo Kanno and sound design by Yasumasa Koyama so they would be consistent with other parts. And get rid of the ugly filters and weird sharp angled shadows.
One minor note that heavily distinguishes the anime from the manga is that its a lot less gory. One example is Doobie who begins to melt after Jonathan uses the snake on his face to bite the monster. In the manga, he's eaten alive by his snake rather than the hamon providing him a quick death. Heck, Strazio rips off the flesh of one of Dio's zombies in the manga, though they censor it in the anime by showing only the skeletal remains.
1:53 When I read this scene it was a holy shit moment especially since I had already seen the Part 3 Anime and OVA before reading the manga. But while telling Dio about his birthmark Wang Chen tells him he saw a birthmark like his before and that the man who had it lived to be more than 100 years old. It was some great foreshadowing.
Great idea for a series of videos. Always appreciate actual content (or of course sh!t posts) in JoJo vids rather than shallow “discussion” vids that seem to be everywhere.
Mm, great vid, bro. Cant wait for the next ones. Part 2 was probably changed the most compared to the manga and Parts 3, 4 and 5 werent changed that much Id still love to see vids about them~
While at the same time cutting character imteractions and Araki's scientific and historical tidbits. Danny's relationship with Jojo suffers a bit thanks to the omissions, as well as Jojo's relationship with Erina. Even the fights suffer from the omissions. The viewer completely misses the explanation on how Dio knows about Hamon since Jojo's skirmish with Wang Chan isn't there, and Jojo being so powerful is never really addressed because the viewer isn't told that he's constantly Hamon breathing. That's not even everything. The anime is a worthy substitute for the manga, and watching the anime is perfectly fine. But going back and reading the manga is always a benefit, for PB, and every Part.
I disagree. The 'fluff" is just standard JoJo quirks and world-building. Having Jonathan eat a chocolate bar like a maniac and Speedwagon eating shit because he forgot his cane is amazing. Knowing more about Poco, Speedwagon, Erina, the Knights, Dio's motives, Wang Chan, etc is great. Anime PB honestly was really forgettable to me. (even though i've watched it 3 times) Manga PB has a completely different tone and it really made me appreciate Phantom Blood as a part of JoJo.
I feel like the cut out parts would have helped develop Jonathan as a character since hes already bland and the viking stories would have been a cool scene
There are some cut scenes early on that I think are very important, particularly the scene where George tells Dio how Johnathan and Danny became friends. First it gives a little context to when fighting Brufford Johnathan decides to swim down instead, in that scene it shows him remembering Danny while doing it, well it makes sense in the manga because of that cut scene. Secondly it helps to show why Johnathan is so willing to give Dio a second chance and is always hopeful that he can turn around and be his brother, and why he cries at his "death". Because something similarly happened with Danny, he would always bite Johnathan and Jojo would get angry and attack him back, and he hated the dog until one day he was drowning and Danny saved him and suddenly him and Danny were close friends and trusted each other. So Jojo Hope's the same thing will happen with Dio and hates himself when he loses that chance when he "kills" him.
Fun Fact (that no one asked for): Jonathan's Shoulder Pads in the Anime were Padded Sleeves in the Manga, which is why they look so different. Dapper Fox, out!
At 3:27 from what i remember i believe there was one zombie that wasn't in the anime that straits killed by tearing its skin off, would this count more as censorship? Sorry if i got details wrong, but its been a few years since ive watched the phantom blood anime adaptation.

Only 9 episodes for Part 1, I'm sad, Part 1 should have at least been 1 or 2 episodes longer and shouldn't have rushed 44 chapters
I appreciate this kind of video. Looking forward to more showing the different differences. Thank you very much.
Speedwagon speeding speedingly in his speedy speedwagon
Whether some scenes were removed the anime jojo is still a masterpiece
Not Part 1
okay true
@@ygsr Part 1 is fine, not as good as the others but it's mainly just an introduction
Nah lmao
@@ygsr Part 1 is a masterpiece. It was interesting
3:05 Basically Dio had Led Zeppelin backing him up.
You didn’t mention that they changed Johnathan’s hair color from brown to blue
None color is canon anyway
Biggest major change from manga to anime
DANY ISNT ON THE COVER ART
One minor note that heavily distinguishes the anime from the manga is that its a lot less gory. One example is Doobie who begins to melt after Jonathan uses the snake on his face to bite the monster. In the manga, he's eaten alive by his snake rather than the hamon providing him a quick death. Heck, Strazio rips off the flesh of one of Dio's zombies in the manga, though they censor it in the anime by showing only the skeletal remains.
I have the first volume of the manga (I still don't have the rest tho)
I love the chocolate bar scene It's probably my favorite omited scene so far...
The addition of The Joestar Birthmark actually makes sense
They should have made Part 1 a bit longer like more few episodes
*IN THE MANGA, THE MANGA*
@@doggypilled it's been a year, and I don't understand my own comment...
Great video!!! Strait and to the point, you didn’t ramble on to stretch the video out longer than it needs to be, keep up the great work!
Excellent job. Can't wait for part 2
I've been looking for content like this! You just got yourself a new subscriber
I’m surprised they cut out the scene where we learn how George got the Stone Mask. I always wondered why they had it
Great idea for a series of videos. Always appreciate actual content (or of course sh!t posts) in JoJo vids rather than shallow “discussion” vids that seem to be everywhere.
Thank you, having actual useful content is exactly what I was going for.
Amazing video, you are so underrated :(
Yeah
*IN THE MANGA*
The anime really sweeped Jonathan abusing Danny and frogs under the rug, huh
It showed Jonathan wasn't perfect
I love how David Production improve Jonathan outfit to look more like Kenshiro
They didn’t have DIO’s firework during the boxing match
10 out of 10 video I'm now subscribed
*In the manga we see Dio getting muda’d by me.*
Very niceu!
@@doggypilled No one asked.
At least it has speedwagon unlike THE PART 1 FILM!!!
Exactly honorable chairman Kim Jong un, son of the late Kim Jong il
this was so good, thank you
Nice video, didn't know they changed so much
Make more! This should blow up with other parts
I never realized how soft Hamon Beats voice used to be & how SASSY he is now 😂
There are a lot of things changed, and a lot of them are also removed.
This is why I'm glad I've had the chance to get into it through the manga in 2001 and having the anime just serving as a complement.
Great video
The worst crime of the anime was getting rid of the scene of Speedwagon on his speedwagon
Mm, great vid, bro. Cant wait for the next ones. Part 2 was probably changed the most compared to the manga and Parts 3, 4 and 5 werent changed that much Id still love to see vids about them~
3, 4, and 5 make up for it by adding the most new stuff.
Yep. Part 5 has probably the most anime only scenes and all of them are great uwu
DiU was changed a fair bit, especially near the end.
Yeah. They kinda had to squeeze 4 arcs into 1
Also, that wasn't a viking in Zeppeli 's story, that was a Caribbean fisherman.
Araki making speedwagon much more useless in the anime cause he didn’t add speedwagon killing zombies
And didn’t add speedwagon’s car
The omissions made in the anime cut out a fair bit of fluff and make that narrative that much stronger.
(even though i've watched it 3 times)
Manga PB has a completely different tone and it really made me appreciate Phantom Blood as a part of JoJo.
The manga was fucked over in the P.1 anime
That intro is juicy
My favorite part was when he said "it's MOJO JOJO TIME"
I loved the video but I died every time you pronounced Zeppeli as "Zeppéli"
I feel like if most of the things in the manga that werent in the anime were adapted to the anime, part 1 wouldve been alot better (the anime)
Lovin' the intro
Now i just want more, please do every part!
Working on Part 2
@@Hamon_Beat :D
im back on this channel for the 5th time this work, i for sure have depression dude
They did Phantom Blood dirty with how much they left out.. don’t get me wrong, I loved the anime, but I could’ve loved it even more ;-;

I thought that was Star Platinum at the back @ 2:01 lmao
This is why you need to read the manga
finally a video on this
Drink a shot when ever hamon beat says manga in this video. Hope you survive
0:01 in the subtitle says: she someday hop on the beat.
Why?
i just cant imagine the pain danny felt jesus
Good morning Hamon Beat... what's up? 💜 And I felt bad when poor Danny died 😢
Yeah but *IN THE MANGA*
Fun Fact (that no one asked for): Jonathan's Shoulder Pads in the Anime were Padded Sleeves in the Manga, which is why they look so different. Dapper Fox, out!
Idk why it's taken me this long to subscribe lol
At 3:27 from what i remember i believe there was one zombie that wasn't in the anime that straits killed by tearing its skin off, would this count more as censorship? Sorry if i got details wrong, but its been a few years since ive watched the phantom blood anime adaptation.
The manga also had Dio explain what the hell that weird dog/human hybrid thing he later crushes was.
