@@angelbear_og most pay their employees with cash, jobs like this, bartending, waitressing etc. don't get w-2's. the worker just has to keep records of their pay to file their taxes, the owner is responsible for filing their business returns. it's much easier for him than working at mc donalds etc. where he knows they will be notified right away.

I experienced the same thing with my ex-husband. He decided at 55 to become a professional actor without a day job. He still owed child support for 2 of his 3 kids. It left up to me to support the household and from the beginning I told him that I did not make enough money to do that. The pressure eventually took it's toll on my health and I was diagnosed with Lupus and Fibromyalgia. In the end I had to make a choice between him and my health. I chose my health and left him after 3 years of putting up with his lack of support.
He's an extremely manipulative and she's victim #4.
Not much of an excuse to be a victim when she knew of the other three. Whether he's manipulative or not, the other person still has to have the fortitude to make wise choices.

This is exactly what I thought while listening to the call. He probably only accepts cash for his landscaping “business,” which will mean that his client base will inevitably be smaller. When other companies take checks/etc, there is no incentive for anyone to choose him for the work they need done. If he were to try to open a bank account, his funds would be garnished pretty quickly. He is fully aware of this and is actively avoiding it.

You can't run a landscaping business without serious equipment and a driver's license. If he's making anything he's hiding it from support court and IRS. This woman needs to GET OUT before they both end up with Federal charges for tax evasion.
My father had a landscaping company through 1960's through to the early 1980's. He mostly had his dad, son, brothers and nephews to help him work it. He made it work very well. He made enough money to buy a house in a nice neighborhood, build on a second floor to the house, and add a built in swimming pool. My parents had one or two cars at a time growing up. He would drive oil trucks in the winter and plan for the next summer season and build his customer base through networking with people he knew and through word of mouth. This was on Long Island.
God bless your dad he had a hard work ethic and wasn’t shiftless.

My guess is that when they got married he was working, and looked like a nice guy to get married to. Otherwise he would be a lot more than 58k in the hole for 3 children.

My state (Iowa) no longer puts parents in jail for non-support but revokes the drivers license of the parent until caught up current in pymts and also takes any tax refunds both state and federal..if the parent works a court order garnishing the wages is set in to place with the employer that they must adhere to...(that's probably why the callers husband doesn't work ) The wife also has to file her taxes as an "injured spouse"...sounds like a big headache and would be easier to just pay Id think...

Nah he's a narcissist. They use ppl up until there's nothing left then on to the next victim hence why he has 3 kids w 3 diff women. He more than likely love bombed this lady to the point where she felt comfortable & then once she became dependent on him by having children he trapped her so he could show his true colors. I know this bc my mom is a narcissist. She's been married 4 times & created a string of single dads bc she didn't raise us. She would just leave, go & make a new family. But yea Boomer/Gen X have narcissism problems but its labeled as love/codependency. I know what to look for thanks to my troubled upbringing & have never entertained a narcissistic person romantically. It's very important to vet ppl & ser boundaries, which I'm sure this lady didn't do. I don't wanna judge her & it's only a matter of time b4 he leaves bc she's no longer useful. I feel bad for her
With taxes, current child support garnishment, back child support and penalties, he could work 24/7 with the tightest budget and he wont be in the black. He has to win the lottery, work under the table, or criminal activity to have a chance at getting out of debt.
I would hope she didn’t know any of this before marrying him but on another note, dudes like him lie about everything and dodge responsibility. She’s stuck with it now if she stays.
