      I am a hunting guide in Maine (other side of continent) and I know about this law in Alaska. I understand the intent of the law--stop people from taking terrible, inhumane shots that aren't likely to result in a kill. It is a law that actually favors the animal rather than the human; therefore, the humans don't like it. That all written, given that the people involved didn't realize this and Ted Nugent clearly wasn't intending to break any laws, I do feel this should not have been prosecuted (i.e., this should have been a discussion with a warning, and nothing more). I don't support singling out certain, high profile people and making an example out of them.

    • @lindioncicerao1247
      @lindioncicerao1247 4 роки тому +2

      I will say that i don't know of the law in question. Now with that said, with teds logic, i guess you can keep on wounding bears until you actually kill one and have it in your truck bed. With that attitude you could have a couple wounded bears eventually bleeding out. A real hunter would try tracking the animal and take it. With teds attitude, i can see some law stating if you wounded the animal and didn't take it "you snooze you loose. Sorry ted, you might have more money than us but your still one of us.

    • @cs2m12
      @cs2m12 4 роки тому +1

      It's in the Alaska Department of Fish and Game regulations, and I think they're downloadable. As of 2017, this was still a law, and only in that particular part of Alaska. He probably would have never been in trouble, but he was recording a hunting show. Alaska isn't democrat as some comments have said, it's libertarian.

    • @The01audi

      Every time you fish, you risk losing tackle and a fish getting away. Does this mean that every fish that has ever snagged and broken my line in trees and riverbed debris means I did in fact catch and possess that fish?! If so, WHERE THE HELL IS MY DAMN TACKLE?!, AND WHERE THE HELL ARE MY DAMN FISH?!!! You aren't in possession until you physically have physical contact with the game, whether it be fish or land living game. I dont understand or know all the laws of this, however fish and game is the only instance that I hear about this issue with. This requires further research into the black ink on white paper words that govern hunting and fishing.

    • @marclaky384
      @marclaky384 5 років тому +1

      @@The01audi they do this because hunters will travel to remote destinations for trophy hunts, spend a week tracking and stalking an animal then get an itchy trigger finger because they don't want to go home empty handed. Then track the animal down and realize they dropped a small sow with cubs instead of a massive boar. Then they act like it never happened and walk away. It's also to prevent all these new- aged dorks that think it is cool to take a 1,000 yard shot with a .308 on a 800 lb grizzly. You owe the animal the chance to escape and if you aren't good enough to take a clean shot and put the animal down quickly then you shouldn't take a shot at all. Better to go home empty handed than empty handed and have an animal die a slow painful death. It's funny as a fisherman I go home all the time empty handed, just luck of the draw. Same goes for hunting.

    • @The01audi
      @The01audi 5 років тому

      @Marc laky, ok, that clears up most of the confusion, the fact that it is due to soulless people as opposed to fair game hunting is something that I should have figured. Haven't hunted in years, never did hunt that way, always waited for the game to come to me. Might hike back to a certain area, like a riverbank or a certain tree, but never chased an animal, always waited for it to come to me, so forgot about that other demographic who pursue. Makes sense. Thanks for the clarification.

      I don't know any of the details of this incident, but perhaps he didn't wound it enough to leave a trail that could be followed? Many people come back from a hunting trip empty handed because they lost a trail or couldn't find any game. I'm sure he DID try to track it down...

He was, and is a great guitarist and rock and roll star, he doesn't do drugs and never has, he doesn't drink. Heck he doesn't even want to shoot animals with guns, he likes the old fashioned way, with arrows. the kill is clean and humane and he eats all of it or donates it. There is the law and there is ethics. If you take a shot at an anima you owe it to that animal to follow up, track and recover that animal. Most states have laws on possession because they can objectively prove the violation, but they also have hunter education classes where they encourage hunters to consider a wounded/lost animal as part of their limit.

    • @ownageeagle
      @ownageeagle 4 роки тому

      I've literally never heard anyone say that and I've been hunting my whole life. I've lost deer to coyotes and had game wardens shrug and tell me to go after another one. In that incident the game warden specifically told me not to waste my tag on the animal even though it had been killed by me. Its near universal that if you don't find the animal it's not part of your limit. Everyone loses an animal eventually. I lost one in a swamp even while using a blood tracking dog. Alaska has a lot of laws aimed a revenue generation. This is definitely one of them.

    Lots of judges don't know all of the laws. That's nothing new. Lots of attorneys have to cite cases of precedence to judges. Nothing new. If the judge is a heavy drinker, they might have a tendency to forget certain laws as well. If Ted pled guiltry and he freely admits he was guilty, then he was guilty, so why is he trying to pander to the viewers? Preying on people's emotions?

    • @dandt0001

      If a judge is a heavy drinker, then they have no business being a judge since by definition their judgement is always impaired!! Attorney's cite cases of precedence to convince a judge that the law that they should know has been ruled on by another judge and therefore a precedence has been made. If a judge is not well versed in all the laws, then they have no business hearing any case.

    There was a law, he broke it, he admitted to breaking it as he pleaded "no contest" and that's it. He admitted he clearly broke the law, if that's the case, then there's nothing to talk about. This isn't the first time Ted's violated hunting laws.

    • @dandt0001
      @dandt0001 6 років тому

      "no contest" is not an admission of guilt. it means the violation is so minor that you are willing to pay the fines and penalties rather than wasting time trying to prove your innocence. I know this country is supposed to be innocent until proven guilty, but then why do we need to prove our innocence? Furthermore, I believe what his point is that if a law is so obscure that not even a judge has ever heard of it, then perhaps that law should be removed?

    Get mad if you like but the law does make sense, if he had a positive confirmation of a hit, he should have called it there and just focused on recovery. There are loads of hunters that believe that once you hit an animal you owe it the tag, recovered or not. Randy newberg is a good example of that. And as a hunter i think it would be the right thing to hang it up for the season once you’ve shot one, if thats the maximum bag limit.
