- How to Cut Starfruit (One of my favorite fruits)
Star fruit, also known as carambola, is a star shaped tropical fruit with sweet and sour flavor. Carambola is native to Malayan peninsula and cultivated in many parts of Southeast Asia, Pacific islands and China for its fruits. Although abundant and plentiful, carambola is yet to gain popularity, especially in the western world.
Health benefits of star fruit
Star fruit is one of the very low calorie exotic fruits. 100 g fruit just provides 31 calories, which is much lower than for any other popular tropical fruits. Nonetheless, it has an impressive list of essential nutrients, antioxidants, and vitamins required for well-being.
The fruit along with its waxy peel provides a good amount of dietary fiber. Fiber helps prevent absorption of dietary LDL cholesterol in the gut. The dietary fibers also help protect the mucous membrane of the colon from exposure to toxic substances by binding to cancer-causing chemicals in the colon.
Star fruit contains good quantities of vitamin-C. Vitamin C is a powerful natural antioxidant. 100 g of fresh fruit provides 34.7 mg or 57% of daily-required levels of vitamin C. In general, consumption of fruits rich in vitamin C helps the human body develop resistance against infectious agents and scavenge harmful, pro-inflammatory free radicals from the body.
Star fruit is rich in antioxidant phyto-nutrients polyphenolic flavonoids. Some of the important flavonoids are quercetin, epicatechin, and gallic acid. Total polyphenol contents (Folin assay) in this fruit are143 mg/100 g. These compounds help protect from deleterious effects of oxygen derived free radicals by warding them off the body.
In addition, the fruit is a good source of B-complex vitamins such as folates, riboflavin, and pyridoxine (vitamin B-6). Together, these vitamins help as co-factors for enzymes in metabolism as well as in various synthetic functions inside the body.
It also contains small amount of minerals and electrolytes like potassium, phosphorus, and zinc and iron. Potassium is an important component of cell and body fluids helps controlling heart rate and blood pressure; thus, counters bad influences of sodium.

That's the sound of a dull ass knife.
@@benfarrell5034 🤣🤣🤣
The most underrated fruit
I got my sister to try one, she said they're "like lemons but in a different font". I still think they're pretty good, I love the texture
when they are in season, you can find them very sweet
Yeah now they're in season and should taste like a Crunchy grape
Hey CAT!
You know, honestly the best description of ripe, in-season Carambola I ever read was that they are like a cross between a grape and an apple - sweet, firm and yes - they do have a small bite of sour. Carambola when it is greenish-yellow (or pure yellow) is not quite there yet - remember in the video how she was talking about slicing the rind on each point? When those start to turn brown is when they are perfect. Even if the brown slowly spreads, it's not a sign of rot but actually a sign of ripening. Regardless of the "brown" as long as the fruit is firm and juicy when you cut it, you are in the zone.
Enjoy,
RBS
Thank you to you kind lady, now I know how to cut up and enjoy this fruit, years ago in a Vegetarian restaurant, the owner there offered us 2 choices for soup, 2 for salad and 3 for the maindish, for salad we could choose a green veggie salad or a fruit salad topped with granola and honey, and if you chose a fruit salad, he'd top of the salad with one Star from this great tasting fruit.Thank you for sharing, liked and greetings from Mexico. :)
Wonderful!
did anyone else get an asmr feel during the slicing bit?
and when she was trimming it haha
I’ve never eaten star fruit before; it’s wonderful! Thanks for the instruction!
lol my mum ordered passion fruit and we got stuck with this lol thank you

Just brought my first star fruit earlier today than it hit me I don't know how to cut or eat star fruit but I do now because of you.
So glad I can help! Do you like it?
@@JoyofArt yes me and my daughter had some for breakfast this morning she actually cried when it was gone lol.
@@watermelonwatsittoya Awesome! It's very health. I'm glad you both like it. I love it since I was a little girl. My father had a tree in my back yard.
@@JoyofArt that's awesome I had to go to a whole different town just to buy some from a store because my local grocery store doesn't have much of an option when it comes to fruits and vegetables and they are expensive it cost 4.99 a pound just for some cherries and I live in Michigan where we're known for being the cherry capital of the whole united states.
@@watermelonwatsittoya I live in FL. Many of my friends have the tree in their yard. I always have more than I can eat. They are easy to grow and one tree will have the fruits more than you can eat. I'm not sure the tree can survive in Michigan. I hope it does then you can plant one in your yard.
Thank you
Thank you I’m always interested in trying new foods😁
I hope you like it!
Helpful and easy to understand, thank you!
Thanks for going straight to the point
Glad you like it
Thank you for this. I found out they are keto friendly so I bought some but had no idea how to "handle" them lol
If you live in a warmer climate, like where I live in west central Florida, you can just plant a tree, and have these whenever you want. My Tree blooms a few times a year, but I put some extra in the freezer, so I can have them when the tree is doesn't have any fruit on it. I like to cut them up in smaller pieces and put them in my Granola cereal.
To get a less chalky taste after cutting off the green edges I trimmed all of the skin off. It can still be cut into sweet stars 🤩
Thanks ma'am this is the first time I did this and you made it easy for me ◇
Thanks! I was completely cutting all the skin off and was so confused!🤣 Star fruit is good though, 10/10.
Glad it helped!
Thank you for the instructions.
Glad it was helpful!
Could you describe to me how this tastes? I really want to try it, it looks good. 🍐
It's hard to describe. It's a tropical fruit with sweet and sour flavor.
Thanks😃
+Chiquita Cruz For a bit more accurate description than "sweet and sour," imagine an crisp red apple and a very sweet pear had a baby. That's what a starfruit tastes like. :)
Chiquita Cruz
its kind of like kiwi
My grandma used to make me delicious carambola water! Thanks for the great video and facts :)
I bought these because they looked cool and I’ve never ate them before but I had no idea how to eat them
thank you. we were deciding between dragon fruit and star fruit and we picked star fruit. which was the one I had no idea how to prepare
I was choosing between the same two at the store yesterday and then I watched videos and found out that dragon fruit doesn't really have taste and it's more of a texture thing that people enjoy, so star fruit was my choice as well lol
Lmao I bought a star fruit once and didn't think to look up how to cut it and now I see that I absolutely destroyed it 😂
Very nice.
Thank you
Thank u I like starfruit
for me it is like a sweet and sour apple combined with celary which gives that "after taste"
Kingdom Hearts brought me here lol.
PAPOU FRUIT :DDDDD
(Sorry if I spelled it wrong :c)
It's Paopu
Thamk you
Just pick three bags today. Hehe....They are so sweet!
Reminds me of paopu fruit from kingdom hearts
Tnx now I know how to cut that!!
This was really helpful. Thank you!
Thank you!
Beau et bon fruit :) Mais comment choisir les bons, bien mûrs ?? Merci !
Beautiful and good fruit :) But how to choose the good ones, quite ripe ?? Thank you !
Noice, I just bought my first one and the video was so helpful, it tastes a bit like Quince fruit

Looks like I can get some more hearts Star hearts I knew this in terraria
I love this fruit
Very Tasty
Love it ❤️
Nice
ameena gul Thanks!
The technique to cut the starfruit is spot on. However this video seems to be missing the "Facts Health Benefits of Star Fruit" part of the video title.
+Orchid
The facts and heath benefits are in the description. (:
Mangelytie Ah, ok. Thank you :)
Your welcome, hope I could help (:
i have star fruit and it tastes AMAZING wow :o :l :o :l :) :D
Pretty!😍
so do you eat the waxy skin part?
My mom cuts it like that xD so i already know how to how it like that
Do you add salt or sugar to them .
No, I don't. It taste good itself but you sure can.
so once your done cutting it into slices do you cut off the edges of the fruit or do yo keep it on? because you said that you can just eat it but the next slide shoes that you cut it off. I'm confused....some one help me please. Do you take the outer part off? or keep it on?
I trim off the edge before cutting into slices. The edge is edible but doesn't tease as good.
Elegant Fashion 360 But you don't peal the skin off? Just cut the edges off? You can eat the skin?
❤👍
So we eat the skin on these ??
first:)
Is it yummy ????
Stardew Valley brought me here.
Lol
What if the star fruit is still green? Is it not ready?
It won't taste good if it's still green but you can pick them from the tree while it's still green and put them in the paper bag or wrap them with news paper then it will soon turn yellow and ready to eat. Hope this help!
Anyone else thinking of Full Metal Jacket ?
Neurotoxicity if you have kidney problems!
R u still doing rainbow loom?
Yes. I just post happy bunny 3D today. There are more designs coming soon.
You sound so beautiful!!!
my husband got a huge bag from work for free looks yummy
I gotta say. They taste like the skin of a tropical apple
You don't have to peel the rest of the skin?
Very testy thanku.
How did I get from pomf pomf to here.
Real life brought me here
I bought these and wanted to love them but the taste was awful to me 😩
Hiiiiiii
Really amazing smell, but quite underwhelming flavor.
1i eat those
didnt show how to get the seeds out
I usually cut them into the slices and then poke the seeds out with the tip of the knife, a pairing knife, or a toothpick
الي جاي من سعودي ريبورتز لايك
I’m a muh fuckin starfruit
when i cut this mine was green
I've never seen nor tasted star fruit. And why would you need to make a video on how to cut it? Not hating
+The Awesome Crafting People The reasons you would need a video about how to cut it...
1) You want to know how to cut it so it makes that cool star shape and you don't want to butcher the thing to pieces trying to figure it out.
2) You want to know if there are any parts that are inedible. In this case, the ends are very tough and have the stem.
3) The edges of the starfruit that she cuts off in a ribbon shape are rather tough, as the skin is someone "folded over" at those points. It's not inedible, but it's not pleasant either.
+The Awesome Crafting People As far as how it tastes, imagine a crisp red apple and a really sweet pear had a baby and named it "Starfruit" :)
HOW IS NO ONE SAYING HOW SOUR IT IS....well mine was sour :(
Most of them are very sweet here in Florida
Also, AVOID the seeds, they're not good for you. To get them out (since it isn't shown) I personally usually use the tip of the knife, a pairing knife, or a toothpick after cutting them into slices.
Why arent they good for you?? Theres probably more nutrients in them. I eat apple, watermelon seeds they are good for you.
Kaitlyn, quit trying to scare people and spread misinformation. Carambola seeds are about as safe as apple seeds - do they contain trace amounts of some toxins? Of course... just like apple seeds have amygdalin so do carambolas - but you would (a) have to eat about 50 pounds or so of carambola in one sitting, and (b) make sure you grind up each seed with your teeth so it can degrade and turn into cyanide.
Wow - THIS is why everyone freaks out when they read the comments on UA-cam... :-(
@@atlbrysco6198 just a woman being a Karen lol, thank you for clarifying for us all!!!
The ones I bought smell like perfumed soap..
where the health benefits? ?
Short: cut it. xD
0 "facts" or "health benefits" in the video..
Must wash them first and seeds are not to be eaten.
I paid $2.99 for one of them.
I used to have a tree in my backyard. They grow a lot of them every year and very sweet.

FIRST- don't you want to wash it?!😬
Yes you should wash it thoroughly. We like to prepare them into star slices, place them in a ziplock baggy and let them chill in the freezer for a bit until cold, we love them cold.
They taste like crap
Thank you.
