This story is so relatable it damn near hurts. I remember all through elementary and high school I was in orchestra. From the first time I picked up a violin I absolutely loved it and it was my single reliable pride and joy. However, i'd get so emotional and actually cried a few times when my teachers would snap at me for losing focus or not doing something right. In those moments it wasn't the teacher snapping that set me off per se, but was instead my own frustration with myself viciously coming out, feeling like every correction was a reaffirmation that I was messing up and not keeping up/falling behind. This totally illogical feeling of not feeling you're good enough can eat you alive. But luckily I had great family friends orchestra mates and teachers who supported me and reassured me that it's totally normal to make mistakes on your way to perfecting your art. Sadly, I stopped playing back in 2013 when my family was going through some heavy drama and transitions. I lost my dear violin (that my last instructor whom I'd been very close with gifted me) during this time and with it a piece of my soul. I mourned over that damn violin, I tell you(still low-key am)! Needless to say, a very unstable stressful angry time in my life for sure.😒 But now I'm fairly stable in life, and this wonderful lady, whom just like me-stepped away for a while, came back and absolutely slayed!
