Exactly my thoughts. Mamey is delicious, almost as soft as papaya. If it wasn't sweet or soft, it wasn't ripe.

Durian is almost always misrepresented in videos outside of Southeast Asia because of the use of crappy frozen stuff that is underripe and of unknown variety. Get some proper durian instead, maybe a "cat mountain king" or "D24" one.
The Jackfruit looks underripe as well, it should have a slightly chewy texture and definitely not "like an apple".

    • @MrSegiSaurus
      @MrSegiSaurus Місяць тому

Black thorn and Musang king durian varieties are good too.
You're right, Jack fruit should be chewy, floral scented and very sweet taste❤

Yeah, mamey is very good in smoothies. With a hint of vanilla scent! :V
By the way, if someone comes to you saying that they know how to pick a ripe mamey... They're lying! :V
Jackfruit? "yaca" in México. It's really good, but definitely ood looking fruit XD
As Don Donato says, "pitahaya" is the name we give in México to the dragon fruit. Icecream made with it is just crazy...
Hey, hey, hey, that "carambolo" (starfruit) isn't ripe yet XD
You need to let them to turn a little brownish on the edges. Fresh water made with it it's on a whole new level. My mom maks atole with it :3
Guanaba (soursop) have a taste very good but hard to describe, really need to taste it yourself. If you ever come to Puebla city, try some fresh made sodas (refresco, as we say) with that flavor in a small bussiness named "Refresqueria Carmen" in Calle 2 Nte 611.
And, as the passion fruit, the soda made with it was "sensao" by the Coca Cola Co. You can still find them in México city, at least in the Centro Histórico.
    Saludos desde Puebla.

We have soursop here in the US. On the east coast we call them pawpaw fruit. They only stay ripe for a super short time before spoiling so it's a big deal to get a nice bushel of them. The taste is so sweet and delicious and the texture is like pudding. It's like a banana and a mango had a baby. So good.

The "golden berry" is a ground cherry. And it's in the nightshade family. So it is related to tomatillos and tomatoes. Those weren't fully ripe. There really sweet and not tart at all when there fully ripe. Those husk were greenish and not fully brown

Jackfruit is an amazing fruit, the seed pods are really sweet, like candy and you can use the cooked white 'flesh' as a substitute for chicken or meat in general in a dish. That's probably what he is talking about when his wife cooks it. :)

Advice from Indonesia, if you are a durian and you don't like the lingering taste and smell on your hand ,use the husk.like a bowl, add water to it then clean your hand with the water, and use that husk as drinking bowl as well, it Will get rid of the smell and the lingering taste from your mouth plus if you developed a taste for it be ware,to much Will make you drunk, use the husk method,it work well and never eat durian on a empty Belly
In my country, in some profince, they eat the soft part of the husk, and the seed, some time they boil it or throw it in a fire and they eat the inside part
Same goes with the Jack frui seed, as for the flesh, when ITS ripe we eat it as is, but when ITS not ripe we like to make chips or cook it in a stew and it taste great

Also, the Sweet Sop, I know it by Cherimoya. They are my favorite! I can't find it here anymore. Muy triste. Maybe you could send me some! ¿¡Si!? Muchos gracias for this one as it helps me know the flavors. Unfortunately, here in Nuevo Mexico we have little selection of unique foods. Lots of green and red chile! The best in the world. The only is from here. Maybe we could trade some foods, no!? Ah, I found out soursop and cherimoya are different!
