Reiterating on one short bit of song for different eras of music is a great way to show how music has evolved over the decades. The creativity is great!
Additional context to the description: Jason Niebrugge, the Lead of NF4 (the redhead), is the butt of a long-running stage-joke, that he can't do jokes, especially knock-knock ones. He'll start a joke, then fumble his words and shout "DAMNIT". You can see his over-exhuberance as he prematurely delivers the punchline, perfectly falling into "the guy that can't joke finally gets a joke right."
Well they just competed at the international convention this year and got 6th place. They still haven't gotten in the top 5, but as far as I know they're not quitting yet
I went to a barbershop workshop that they worked during highschool in like 2015(?) and it was life changing. All four of them were just full of so much energy and talent but they always did a great job of relaxing and connecting everyone in the room too. I remember I was going through some stuff at the time so I ended up not going again and Jake had even reached out to me to talk to me about some of the stuff since he noticed at the camp. Seeing them pop up as recently as now is just so amazing. They're still as goofy as ever but they've refined it so well
hi im very late here, but can I ask what you mean by tenor interjection? i haven't come across the term before. is it the suspended high note from the guy on the left?
Does anyone else just immediately think of an animated frog singing and dancing to this when they hear it (at least in the original style)? Also, I was hoping they'd end it with a turn-of-the-millennium boy band rendition (e.g. NSync or Backstreet Boys).
I love this performance. It was the first 'modern' barbershop discovery! Love it and the guys - I miss Ryan and wish him well. These guys and Midtown are pretty much the only groups I listen to.
I noticed we went to the fifties, then to country, then jumped way up to disco in the late seventies early eighties. Guess sixties and early seventies just couldn’t be done by barbershop quartet. Course kind of hard to do Beatles, Animals, Jefferson Airplane mashup.
I have watched this multiple times now and I super appreciate your transcription. Helps me understand more about how the voices work where on the staff when I can see it written out!
I’m sure this popped up because I follow the gaithers. I thoroughly enjoyed the performance! Bringing the quartet sound to other genres is cool. I play instruments, but if I try and sing my dogs think I’m in pain. But there is something so beautiful about people using their voices together. Dang, I just teared up a bit. But there IS something fundamentally different between acapella and other music. I see amazing instrumentalists and I just drop my jaw. But when human voices combine in such beauty, it brings me to tears.
I was waiting for them to hit the late 90's/early 2000's and turn into a boy band. Hello.... My baby. Hello... My honey. Hello, hello, hello... Don't wanna hear you say!
These videos bring back such good choir memories for me! It's interesting to follow along with the transcription and see just how intricate the chords can get. Or to remember from the second song that you sometimes have to plug one ear because you're singing only one note apart from the person next to you.
Amazing stuff! One of my favorites. Small correction on the final section - the tenor on the first "honey you'll *lose* me" should go up to a G on "lose".
So this is not something I’d normally listen to but damn y’all are talented and that was great. Guess I found some new stuff to listen to. UA-cam has blessed me yet again
The only reason I decided to listen to this is because it says “not Barbershop?”. Barbershop Quartets I have heard over me decades have all had fantastic vocalists. I have heard that one song too many times is my problem. They did a fun and great job of switching it up and keeping me listening to the end
Thank for explaining the joke in the description for this vid. I've been listening to them since 2018 but have never figured that out. It makes a lot of sense and I can finally appreciate it
“I’m so glad we’re mic testing, otherwise we’d be disqualified.”
That was humor at its finest
this (the original) is one the most viewed barbershop videos ever, and it deserves it
Absolutely!
posted 1 hour ago as of now, video has hit 1.3k views
I think they meant the original which has over 6 million views
@@__lasevix_ I meant the original
Nice fpf
Jackson just proved that it is possible for a ginger to have some soul in them. That was beautiful.
you're right. this is clearly a contemporary classical percussion quartet. so new, so bold. I love it.

but they didn't lol

*ADDITIONAL* additional context: another running joke about him is the inability of others to pronounce his name, resulting in hilarious alternatives.
I love the Newfangled Four. I hope they are doing well somewhere in Music Land.
Well they just competed at the international convention this year and got 6th place. They still haven't gotten in the top 5, but as far as I know they're not quitting yet
@@jasonfieler That's great news. I saw a video of them saying they were disbanding. I'm glad to hear they changed their mind.
@@Aiko2-26-9 well it's just that their baritone left, but they got a new one and are still going strong

I've always enjoyed the Newfingled Four.
2:56 still can’t get over how clean the tenor interjection was there. Also just the whole swing section is so fun to hear
hi im very late here, but can I ask what you mean by tenor interjection? i haven't come across the term before.
is it the suspended high note from the guy on the left?
@@cl3matisI’m wondering the exact same thing
@@cl3matisI guess so
yes@@cl3matis
@@cl3matisyeah it’s when the tenor furthest on the left projects over the other parts, it’s so clean and fits the swing section so well
Michigan J. Frog was my first introduction. And only, until now.
This is what the hobbits of the fellowship ended up doing together in an alternate timeline, killing it as a singing group.
Some quartets are really good, some are really bad, these guys are really funny and that is the best part.
Does anyone else just immediately think of an animated frog singing and dancing to this when they hear it (at least in the original style)? Also, I was hoping they'd end it with a turn-of-the-millennium boy band rendition (e.g. NSync or Backstreet Boys).
I think of an alien chestburster with a little boater hat and cane. But it's based on the frog, so I guess...same?

I’ve been looking for a transcription of this for EVER! THANK YOU!
Happy to help!
The group that help barbershop quartet music to not stay as a relic of the past century.
Their chord work is INCREDIBLE! Normally, I try and sing along with groups but watching them, I just listen and enjoy.
I love this performance. It was the first 'modern' barbershop discovery! Love it and the guys - I miss Ryan and wish him well. These guys and Midtown are pretty much the only groups I listen to.
What, not Ringmasters?? You're really missing out if you haven't heard them!!
WOW. This is genius. Amazing that they could capture the feel of so many eras.
i just randomly got recommend this by YT and I have to say... those are some smoooooooth bars! I'm so glad I found this. This is beautiful!
This is the perfect way to show how arrangement is everything
This is one of those moments when you wonder, " what else have the logarithms been keeping from me!!.???!!" 🤯
😂
The exponent
@@andough9753 I didn't laugh, but I'd like to acknowledge that it was a solid joke
There’s something special about performances where the performers are having as much fun as the audience
i always loved this one :)
it's actually the reason i got into barbershop in the first place!
Same!

That last long held note..!!😮❤😮❤
I appreciate all the hard work you do to make these videos. I look forward to watching them everyday when I get off of work. Thank you!
I just love listening to this group. I love the touch of humor that they add.

Simply fantastic. I have to imagine that was the best mic test performance in history.
"Maybe you'll make the 10 next year" Damn David, you brutal
For a second or two, I thought he'd pull a mic from his pocket and drop it on the stage as he walked away. 😀

Besides being funny, this is actually a pretty good overview of the history of popular music.
This brings back great memories of my time in the SPEBSQSA.
This is too cute, they are very talented and skilled showmen
We’ve been waiting for this for years. Thanks Jason
Anytime!

Epic resolution!!! Holds an interesting chord and then resolves to the major triad!!! Always love a good resolution

this was the video that originally got me into barbershop. thank you so much for doing this one :D

I’ve never seen this before but it’s nice to know Steve Arnott had a good life after leaving AC12
