I think cornrows or plaits are a good protective hairstyle for length retention. When you take it out, spray with water/ any cheap conditioner and some oil of your choice. Remove the braids gently. It's time consuming but it depends how much length you want.

The headband wigs are the best protective style EVER!!!!! You don't need any leave out so you can braid or cornrow your hair and leave it alone for as long as you like, I wash every 2 weeks and literally don't touch my hair till next wash day, they are easy to put on and there are so many cute styles, my hair is growing like weed with those no breakage whatsoever.

You are blessed to have a good stylist. I am currently trying to re-learn how to do my own hair. I can't find any to believe that my hair can be relaxed and healthy the way I know it can be.

Lol, I am the reverse, every time I go under the dryer and spend 2-2 1/2 hrs, due to length and thickness, I threaten to cut my hair.😂 The care length requires irritate me to no end in this tropical heat..I don't do wigs or braids, I simply put it in a bun daily and leave it. What I would say is that I always monitor what my hair need every 48 hrs and I NEVER, comb with a fine tooth comb.

Headband wigs and buns are my fave. Buns are not protective styling but I think they do a good job

I really feel your frustration about the loss,No offense, but faux locs have never been my thing at all,it has always looked so complicated & time consuming to me.
Your hair is so healthy & beautiful..don't worry about the short hair at the back,it will catch up

I do sew in & box braids, wigs are not my favorite because of high maintenance on the frontal. A hairstylist did a bob box braids & cut my real hair during the process 😣😭.
Sew in take down, I have cut my hair too.

Omg I have the same set back like yours, and it looks like its the same side and place too (on my right side). The only difference is, I didn't cut it accident but I am currently transitioning to texlax, and I wasn't being careful on a wash day which accidentally ripped it off. Mine looks worst though because my relaxed ends aren't thick enough to cover it up completely.

Why are half wigs and weaves now being referred to as "protective styling" when in the 80's they were not. Quite frankly, back then women used wigs and weaves because they were not content with their own hair's fullness, thickness, lengh, texture, etc.
