A forest from The Cure, live at Birmingham 1985, BBC broadcast. It seems there's no intro. Not on the "Concert" lp, never released one. Pure energy. Enjoy
It's great. My fave version is on Orange - some of the guitar parts he plays here, during the instrumental section, were expanded & perfected by the time they recorded Orange. Awesome life-changing stuff!
A Forest is the song that express my deepest feelings when I'm sad as well when I'm happy, acts like the best drug in the world, because doesn't cause any damage, just pleasure
there's so many goog live versions of this! Great Song, great band! For me the version of the kiss me tour was very, very good. with roger on second keyboard and porl on second guitar, amazinglygorgeously
I saw them for the first time during the tour when "Concert" was recorded in 1984... at Crawford Hall on the UC Irvine campus... it is a basketball gym. Imagine being at a "dance" in your high school gymnasium and THE CURE is playing! Awesome, right up to the stage at Robert's feet... Opened with Shake Dog Shake... The live version of A Forest on the Concert album is really good. This version is really good, too. I've seen them play this song live 7 times... It keeps getting better
It's wonderful and similar performance with that of Concert The Cure Live LP version. The LP released 22 October 1984 and all the songs where recorded during Oxford and Hammersmith Odeon lives
It's strange to find this gem at just the time I am gearing up for one of the Reflections shows in NYC. I thought for sure this was from the Duke University show in 1989 (a 3.75 hr set with maybe 4 ? encores), but it is not. This version is absolutely amazing at any show. Thanks for the post!
from 5:00 minutes onwards it just gets crazier and crazier. Just fantastic. and such a great final. They never did it again. I looked tons of version. thanks dude to have found it for us ! long years i had it on CD !
This is THE BEST version of A Forest ever. Searching for this version I picked up of Triple J in the 80s, I immediately recognised it. There is no equal. I know this solo off by heart. If I had all the moneys, I would ask Robert to teach me how to play this version and I would die a happy man.
@@guitaristssuck8979 this is I believe Birmingham NEC 87 from memory. WCIBY was played at the 3rd encore. BBC 'In Concert' played it early 88.. The Concert Live cover is misleading. Also done another NEC Concert released in 89 by BBC.
@@guitaristssuck8979 well I was obviously wrong then. It's the NEC and the BBC seemed to have caught the best versions imo. Looking at the time of this, it couldn't be the concert I thought it was as its around 2 1/2 minutes too short at least. Did you get to see them at Bournemouth Town Hall reported as the Cure gig a guy had his ear bitten off at? Moles in Bath in 83 was one of the best. Tiny club, Robert buying drinks for people, a backing tape that went wonky a secret gig. I made a genuine mistake. I hope you feel superior now?
I've been looking for this one for quite some time. Perfect buildup of the solo by Robert. Just like a lot of other people I have my favourite live-versions of a lot of Cure-songs. This is one of them. Thnx for sharing.
This is great, but the best live version to me, must be the one from paris, 1992. If you haven't heard it, you should really give it a try. It's just amazing.
I was at the 92 tour but in Houston, during the repeated "and again and again and again" a girl rushed the stage to hand him a HUGE bouquet of roses and when security went to block her he stopped them and let her sing that chorus with him. What a badass memory she will/has had her whole life!!!!!
yeah, this is the first version that made me a fan of the cure. the '92 wembley version of over 13' minutes is amazing too, but i still love the orange version, it's so straight, simply the cure ...
I taped this from the Annie Nightingale Request show Sunday night on BBC Radio 1.It was after the top twenty. Did anyboby else fall in love with her?. Oh yes this is the best version!
yes you're right, it's also best version to me, though energy lies in chords and voice - and the flanger with the drums, which comes finest out here - anyhow, nothing can destroy this song. My brother put it to mc in 1986, I lost the mc to a real bitter fan, and i searched and searched the web - finally fond, here, on you..r.."tube" channel. Tank u so much - ac
it sounds so fresh as if it were recorded last year!! very inventive and energetic!! check out the 'rock in athens version', (my personal favourite!) a version that belongs to the darker, early eighties cure. the solo guitar in that one is of a different kind, the 'faith' kind! aren't they the cure?!! i'm so addicted!!!
The actual definitely best version of "A Forest" - the one that really is on the Concert album - available nearby, and it has a picture of the black & white Concert album-cover, and the text with it is: The Cure - A Forest * Concert Live 1984 I would post the link, but UA-cam doesn't allow it.
Ohh, by the way 1963 born guy.......... fucking love this music still and will never let go on it!!! If you don't like it, fucking LEARN to LOVE it, cause it IS, TIMELESS....... now enjoy........
Simply - THE BEST. But i had one interesting version of forest, while song is going on then at one point all guitars and keyboards stop and is for a few seconds only drum solo ... then again guitars continue to play....something amazing ! Unfortunately somebody stole my stuff and this song was gone. Was also a kind of fast tempo, performed maybe in Latin America...
This is definitely the best live version ever...I have ,somewhere on an old video tape, the whole version with the intro, recorded on "VIDEOMUSIC" (an italian music channel) pity I can't find it, but most of all , pity that it seems to be impossible to find the video on youtube... :-/
Wow, I bought a cd with this version when I was a teenager, like 20 years ago (and paid a pretty penny for it back then). It's called BBC 1985 (red letters) and has a B&W photo of Robert and Simon (I think). It was recorded from vinyl cause there's a few subtle pops of the needle. I always thought this was the best version and have never seen a second copy until now.
A forest est une chanson évolutive : Y a mille et une manière de la jouer. C'est à ça qu'on reconnait qu'une chanson est géniale. Celle version est très bonne. Très bonne qualité..
Yes, I agree this is a great version.
The last 4 minutes are an absolute musical miracle!!!
Thank you so much Robert Smith!
One of the best cure tracks of all time, the old school cure is the best!
This is the one!! Thank you!❤
I WAS THERE!!! 1985 in TURIN (TORINO)one of the best live performance I ever seen!! I swear!
Wow. Epic. You scored
THE CURE MY FAVORITE BAND OF SOUL

I will let you know, that started listening and I went to my room and grabbed my tennis raquet and started playing. Epic, just epic tune.
Insane guitar from Robert. WOW!!!!! Then Simon comes in for the wrap up with pulse beat bass. Whew.
This is amazing live album from The Cure ever !!!
Back again and still WOW!
What a song, the bass, it is beyond description, I am in bliss when I hear it, adore adore, love, love love love

Robert's too . I remember in France, reading how he loved this version. His solo especially. I gave this album away like a dumb teenager.
BEST PERFORMANCE FOR THIS SONG,,,
This is one of the best CDs or LPs from The Cure!!!
Amazing, one of the best version heard
Yes :) This version is definitely the best!

Robert is so full of drugs at that times, chaotic and twisted ..psychotic poems under desperate melodies, pure art
George E. Rarecase 😍
This version has been a long-time favorite to me too...
This is it. Don't miss it :-)
Began writing during listening to that emerging
sound in the 80s while spending time in the high mountains above 2000 m.
It is very good, no, it is fantastic
It's wonderful and similar performance with that of Concert The Cure Live LP version. The LP released 22 October 1984 and all the songs where recorded during Oxford and Hammersmith Odeon lives
THE VERY BEST LIVE 'A FORREST' EVER !!! Everytime a shower runs over my neck ! Brilliant Smith, R.
