Definitely my favourite The Cure live video and it means I agree with you more or less!
Probably? IS....
💯
@Bryan Davis What a pity! Just the way Depeche Mode missed recording the Violator tour which is also a real shame...

Someone should add (decoded) Robert speeches between the songs!! haha
Thank you, can you make the same with part 2 and 3 of the video, put the timestamps of the songs, dude? 😊
Thanks❣️ 😺
This is it!! We drove to the cinema in Berlin around 1986/87 in an Mini with 7 people to watch it! I listen to The Cure since I was 13 and it still makes me cry…love it…always…
I've been listening to The Cure also for 40 years!! Saw them in Minneapolis, Minnesota early 90's, Twice, Pearl was still with them. They were giving themselves a lightshow off the audience! I could see it cuz we wer a couple rows up on the side of the stage! Love Love Love The Cure!!
Last Octobet I was invited again and can proudly present 7 live- Gigs!, only topped by (don’t be spooked!) Chemical Brothers and Peter and The Testtube Babies!🤪
This is the most perfect version of Play for today! I still love it from my heart..always will!!!
The Cure opens something in your heart.
This is a standout performance AND possibly the best version of Strange Day ever. The smoke, the drum sound with the haunting opening synth and the flange - it’s just SO good. They were so on form at this gig. It’s an indescribable joy to see it. I only wish I could have been there.
The Cure is the best band in the whole world!Robert Smith is a living legend.
Favorite band of all time. One of their best performances.
It really was. I bought it on VHS in '88. Still one of my prized possessions. I wished they would remaster it on Blue Ray or 4k.
I watched this on vhs over and over. It is still my favourite live performance video. Absolutely brilliant music and direction 💖
Got to see & listen to it for 1st time on big screen at a repertory cinema. Overwhelming & sensational
Boris Williams easily in a different class, brilliant drummer performs every song with perfection.
The way he and Simon are totally in sync is a thing of beauty
He is such a talented drummer
Best line up, best concert and best version of "A Strange Day", legendary.
@@kriskemp Hi Kris his performance on Charlotte Sometimes and A Forest was incredible let alone Faith his feel of those songs were exquisite Andy Anderson was super natural in his abilities to relate to the Cure sound and perform them.
boris is perfect 10
Simon and Boris's killer locked-on precision never gets old. one of THE great concerts. Band, venue, atmosphere, crowd, everything.
00:01 Intro The Glove Relax .Thanks Dave Carroll

8 27:05 Charlotte Sometimes
9 31:13 In Between Days
10 34:21 The Walk
Gracias por subir este tesoro al que hace casi treinta años sólo podíamos escuchar en grabaciones ilegales y de mala calidad. El espíritu y el sonido se mantienen intactos. Me hacen sentir ahí.
One of the best live ever! The sound is incredible, Phaser, flanger, chorus, octaver, compressor on drums, it's so 80s!!!!
You forgot saying " best fans ever"
Pretty much everyone I knew who played guitar had a flanger, phaser and a chorus back then.
Also synth players. They made a huge difference to the sound back then.
@@christaylor1787 For sure!
The drumsound is AMAZING!! The gated reverb on the toms , almost a new fantastic snare sound on every song ….all instruments are having such a unique sound and of course Robert Smiths sings beautifully as always … he still does. !!! 🖤🙏🖤
I still have the original vhs tape...and still love the Cure 35 years later (I'm 44). Robert is an amazing wonder, profound in depth.
Right!
I have it too. its a prized possession
Same here! Also 44.
I have it too, but stole it from my sister!
Bought it in '89. Somehow my younger brother ended up with it 🤷♂️
slam dancing going on too during this brilliant concert. Thank you
The decade of the 80s will never be able to be repeated...you were there...or you missed it....(you had to be born before 1980)....The Cure kick ass!!!
1989
@@geoffreyupson3427 Cure baby!:)
Born 1967 and saw them 17 times … the first one in 1986 and the last one in 2022……
The greatest Cure concert and greatest concert ever...better even than Woodstock!
They're one of the very few bands that have constantly good music, all songs, not just 1 or 2 good songs per album - all, every piece (as written) is perfect and is a glorious piece of the artist. Charlotte sometimes (along with so many other literary references) tells me Robert has a very vivid imagination... He has an ability to tell a story; take you there, even when it was so many years before. Thank you, the Cure, for sharing your music with us...
His wife must be the loveliest of ladies. God bless'em both
so beautiful :)
Yeah, been listening to them for 40 years. I asked my friend yesterday, why does practically every song sound epic? They are special.
As i grow older, I am starting to like even the songs I used to not be too fond of. Maybe my ears are maturing.
Here we have the best live version of "Play For Today" - better than the studio recording too. Boris Williams is simply an unbelievable drummer.
The music love of my life since I was 12. Saw them in 1989, 1992 and1996 Just went to see them again last night 08 /06 /19 in Dublin and they were as good as the 1st time 30 years ago. Stunning...
I just watched that show. I can't believe they sound so good.
@Theonlyonestanding
Shut up and get out you POSEUR!
Lucky. I saw them once in 84 I think and brilliant. Hope I get a chance to see them again.
I'm 17 and i love them. I'll meet them next month for the first time in Mexico City ♥
@@erikasanchezhdez9828 enjoy 😁
The audio is incredible! His voice is so clear, thank you for uploading!
У меня была VHS кассета с этим концертом, она была засмотрена до дыр, браво Роберт Смит, браво The Cure
I was in 7h grade, The Cure and Grateful Dead were everything to me in 87. Now more the Dead but love for The Cure never fades away too.
I loved it when Simon snatched the fake wig off of Robert...lol. I saw this years ago in a theatre in Chicago. I was just getting hooked on the Cure. This performance helped seal the deal for me. 👍👍👍👍
I was there!! Just a white sheet behind them...
What a Great show! That ancient Roman theatre is perfect for The Cure sound!
The First time I saw them live, but listened to them since 1980. They came to San Diego State University Open Air Theater in 1987. I was in the front row. The played a song I never heard called "New Day" I remember his vocals going higher and higher! Never have I heard Robert go that high. Utter mind blown! I remember telling this girl I was with, Have your ever heard such a voice go that high? She looked at me and said: "It's Robert Fucking Smith!" "That man could make icicles melt with his voice!" I went backstage and met the whole band in '96 during the wild mood swings tour in los Angeles at the forum. took a ton of pics that will be with me forever! Please release in Orange on DVD/Blueray. We cure fans waited too long!
And did you mention to Robert about how stunned you were hearing his voice going higher and higher?
Got this on dvd i bought the original VHS many yrs ago and put onto disc, this performance of the band recorded in late 1986 in Orange France at the old Roman Theatre is the greatest live concert you will ever see of this band. A band at their peak and their looming kiss me album in 1987 this location was dark and brooding like their sound opening portals.
We also had this on VHS. Wish we would've thought about transferring it to a disc. It's lost now along with other cure music videos on VHS that won't play on UA-cam in the states.
I was twelve when I saw last Waltz concert movie, then Stop Making Sense.
The Cure Live at Le Orange is something from another dimension.
Playing strange day is mind-blowing everytime, even after thirty five years this is yet to be surpassed.
Thank God I was of a very privalaged generation, raised on epic 🎵.🙏🙏💥🏆🎹🎤🎸
Orange. Not 'le'.

@@tommytippee2437 nvm, bye.
Give me your eyes
That I might see the blind man kissing my hands
The sun is humming
My head turns to dust as he plays on his knees
As he plays on his knees
And the sand
And the sea grows
I close my eyes
Move slowly through drowning waves
Going away on a strange day
And I laugh as I drift in the wind
Blind
Dancing on a beach of stone
Cherish the faces as they wait for the end
Sudden hush across the water
And we're here again
And the sand
And the sea grows
I close my eyes
Move slowly through drowning waves
Going away
On a strange day
My head falls back
And the walls crash down
And the sky
And the impossible
Explode
Held for one moment I remember a song
An impression of sound
Then everything is gone
Forever
A strange day
and do you know what is he saying just before playing it? There should be a quiz on decoding Robert chat in lives haha
@@carolinehamel3807 This is a song from "Pornographic"... he say's.
The album "Pornography"
I stand by my opinion 30 years ago, this is the best concert I've ever seen
How is possible that Smith's voice remains exactly the same nowadays. Not even very similar but 100% exactly the same. That's perfectly ok!
I'm sure he takes care of it...not smoking, drinking tea with lemon and honey.
I totally agree with you but what the smiths and morissey have to do with this video? Also, I have recently seen the cure live. Robert's voice is still outstanding!
I saw them in 11-07-2019...and his voice is imaculate.
He's a genius natural, full of life! Loved him since I was 17 in the late 70s. Music to grow up with!
@Stay he used to drink magic mushroom tea. Could use one myself right now.
These guys deserve an incredible documentary movie showing how eclectic the fans are, the vibe, love and dancing. Its so cool seeing cholos, goths, jocks, avg folks and someone you wouldn’t expect letting themselves go to their music.
What a cool venue for this band it's perfect and they're feeding off the the excitement from the crowd 🇬🇧
As a 13 year ol teenager when I was beginning to learn how to play guitar, me and my friend would play this video over and over trying to play like them in our living room. This video is so hard to find. Thanks for sharing and bringing back that innocent teen feeling/memories.
This concert was the height of their powers. And they still haven't come down to earth. Amazing
Found this video tonight... Wow!!! 😍
The best Charlotte Sometimes version I've ever heard😍
This is the perfect show! The place fits so well to their music and the atmosphere is so sweetly dark, a pinch of a dream.
A real pleasure 😊
I will never forget being in the 6th row at The Cure concert in Austin, Texas on June 11, 1992. Best concert I've ever been to.
Thank you for sharing this. I once had this concert on vhs. I copied the audio to tape cassette and while listening I learned to play bass guitar. After weeks of practicing I was able to play the whole cover on bass. Thank you Cure because you inspired me to learn bass guitar 🎸
Like Depeche Mode. A brilliant front man bathed in deep rich melodies. Timeless sounds
Wonderful description ❤
What a set list. This would have been a dream to see live.
Boy they sure don't make Artists like they used to. Outstanding ......
El sonido puro y limpio...el mejor sin dudas!!! La alineacion perfecta!!! I love a The Cure..
Wonderful
thanks for share, this gig means a lot to me...
I still get the chills from this version of A Strange Day all these decades later! This was my go to album when I was reading the first 3 Vampire Chronical books along with Live In Paris.
Agree, best version ever of A Strange Day. I nicknamed Simon Mr Soft because of how he floated round on stage in this vid for thst track x
Chills indeed one of the greatest Cure tracks.
Push and Strange Day (from this concert) are my favorite live performances ever.
@@asbocazbo You should check this version of A Strange Day. Better guitar & bass. This guy has uploaded some good songs off pornography.
probably their best concert ever.
What a setlist. just pure perfection.
Not probably mate,,, there ain't no doubt about it !!!!✌✌✌✌✌
Noooo. too many silly cheesy songs. few good ones.
This version of A Strange Day always gets me - spirit shoots straight up the spine to my higher brain function... Wow! What a song...
Mi favorita de The Cure, desde mi niñez.
A thousand thanks for this concert that reminds me of so much memory I was 17 years old when he moved to Orange I live just a few kilometers from the city. what a pleasure I heard this first part I am impatient to hear the following a thousand more thanks. sorry for my english I am french.
Thank you for posting this. Chills all over the place, honestly. It's been over 30 years since I've seen, heard, felt this - Orange affected me. This is sooooooo good!!
Changed the way i heard music forever........ This concert lives in a pocket in my heart xxx
I bought the vhs, still have it. Watched it so many times. My first cure concert was on the kiss me tour in Seattle.

OMG!!!!! I wasn't expecting Kyoto Song at all.... when it came out I had chills all over my body
Thanks for this Robert, thanks The Cure, for this music, always eternal in my heart
Only Robert can pull off such demented chords!

This is what made me fall in love with the Cure at 13 years old :-) I'm now a whole bunch of older, 44 and still love the Cure so much- I've been looking for this tape forever💜
I feel that. 45..remember I would always buy and LP for my dad..birthday..fathers day...and then play em like they were mine. Great days.
The first time I heard The Cure I was 14. My English teacher showed me a k7 tape and I loved that. I'm 44 now.
❤️❤️❤️ This sound is so good for a live concert! Loved Robert's voice quality, Simon having fun!, Porl's accents &Boris' perfect drumming. (Lol sadly looks so bored(previous drummer on secondary keyboards)). Great auditorium-Must watch!
Always hearing things missed previously-life gets busy!I saw thee in 1997 in CA, I think 🤔.
A 59yr old fan!
Good grief never heard of this, been dying to see high production standard live footage from their earlier years
Love that they had a mosh pit for this show...
Today they’d be standing there holding up their phones
Lmao Simon snatched Roberts weave
Thank you so much for posting this! I saw them the first and last time summer 1987 on their Kiss Me Kiss Me Kiss Me tour at the Forum in Los Angeles. I was just shy of turning 16 years old. I really hope to see them again. I love them so much. Such a big part of my teenage years and still to this day. So many good memories
The Cure was enormous in France, much more diehard fans there than in britain in the 80s.
Oui ma puce !
Oh yes, I remember these days when the audience were actually engaged on all levels with the music and each other. ...... and then “dumb phones” came along and ruined everything.
Dy O'bolikal I dont know if you’re serious or not

No. He’s right. The phone zombies crept in
@@burnhappy we are all in agreement here. It's just that the op said "dumb phones" in quotes like that which was a bit odd
TheBloodBanshee Ah. Yeah. Putting things in quotes for no reason. My favorite ;-)
There will never be another Robert Smith! What an original!
Cómo me hubiera encantado estar ahí. The Cure es el amor musical de mi vida
La banda de nuestras vidas, los escucho hace 31 años, desde julio de 1990, cuando escuché la primera canción: jumping someone else´s train y quedé enganchado hasta hoy que estoy viendo el orange de nuevo
This show might have the best version of 'Primary' ever recorded by the band. Some of those muted harmonics Robert throws around in the main riffs are just simply angelic.
The hills are aliiiiive 🤩
@@asbocazbo I used to staunchly believe that song was either all bass or bust, and anything else was blasphemy. Then I heard the version from this show at some point and it completely had me reevaluating my shit. Quite honestly, it's almost hard for me sometimes to even go back to the studio cut.

One of the greatest concerts ever filmed and it doesn't even have an official release on dvd or Blu ray, can't believe it!!
Played this over and over over many years. The Cure at their best. Seem them many times but wish I was there!
The best Moment in cure's story. Between the "dark Trilogy" and the next, more soft album, "the top".
Uno dei più belli concerti della storia !!!
I’m so thankful to still see this footage making the rounds. I was a little nine year old fuck when I discovered The Cure and I watched this VHS tape damn near everyday in the summer of 1990. Thanks for posting!
Great camera work. Great editing. Great sound. Great performance. Live concert videos do not get any better.
Directed by Tim Pope...
A Friend of a Friend Loaned me this concert on VHS Tape in 1991 while living in Springfield Oregon I was Blown Away Then as I am Today
I saw this live from Long Island at a Party at 2am on some late night video channel and I was on massive LSD and from that moment on everything was The Cure ...now I write house music but I always remake my favorite Cure songs..i just got the delay down from there best Song "I'm Cold" which goes: You're begging me to stay
But I'm laughing in your face
You're so desperate
Not to let those years of care
All go to waste
But it was you who wanted love
Not romance
You have to pay the price
My body may be made of fire
But my soul is made of ice
I'm me
I'm cold
I'm cold
I'm told
I'd love to love you girl
But my body
Has just been sold

Speechless 😍😊👌🏻 what an awesome concert I'm such a big fan of The Cure🤘🏻... Robert Smith you're a genius ☺️🖤 your songs have helped me during the hard days 👏🏻😊
Shake Cure Shake
One of the best live concerts you'll ever see. I once had the original VHS for this. I'm going to start looking for it. This is a perfect "set" of music for the Cure and I consider it their raw best music they ever produced.
Thank you so much....OMG such sweet nostalgia
probablemente uno de los mejores comienzos de concierto en la historia... el clima, la luz, el primer fill de la batería, el primer tema... pura poesía

Their absolute best concert video...featuring the best configuration of the band!
My first VHS Cassette 1991. Forever The Cure :)) Best Band Time from 1979-1992 ;).
I saw them in the summer of 1986 in Texas. I was so disappointed Robert Smith had cut is hair! haha! I was 14 and it one of the best concerts to this day, that I've ever seen. Beach Party Tour--Standing on a Beach the Singles which I think is hard to find today in its entirety. I wish I had kept my tour t-shirt. I was stupid to let that go!
Lunchlady Kim still have my tour t-shirt from kiss me kiss me kiss me. ‘87 at the Forum in Inglewood. 15 year old me couldn’t believe i was there
Was that the tour where they played in the field at the back of Astroworld?
I wore this VHS Tape out over 33 years ago. I recorded it onto cassette to play in the car and that did not last much longer than the videotape. Then I saw The Cure on the Disintegration Tour the following year ('87 Dallas, Texas, I believe) and have been hooked ever since.
The ending surprise in part2is worth the whole show!don’t miss out
Ahhh! If I knew of them when I was a child during those years. So frustrating. Love them. If only there is a way to go back and get to those concerts.
Indeed ! I feel very lucky to have been in my early teens in the late 80s when The Cure were massive and being able to see them live several times... I've seen hundreds of bands live and not one compares to The Cure
I was there...My first concert . Legendary!
I still remember going to see this when it first came out in 1987. I was 18 years old and The CURE music was all I thought about and listened to for a long time.
Best version of Primary .... The Cure forever ... 2024 on!
Boris Williams y Andy Anderson fueron los mejores bateristas de The Cure sin dudas. Para mi
