I have viwed many videos and articles on toy photography lighting and this has to be one of the most concise and helpful that I have come across. It's like you were reading my mind and decided to do a short, straight-to-the-point video on what you read.
Wow!! That’s definitely one of the best compliments ever! Really appreciate that. I know sometimes tutorials need to be long and more detailed, but I do appreciate when things are to the point. That’s definitely a goal I try to have mostly. Maybe I’ll do a longer video here and there haha. But thanks so much! 🙏🏼🙏🏼
@@amusingking The videos probably don't need to be all that much longer if you are going to be this pinpoint accurate in them. Obviously, I am subscribed now .👍
Hey Matt! Cool tutorial! I especially like how you show examples in real-time as your talking (making the video darker/lighter and changing the color. Also, showing you can use plain paper as a bounce makes the technique doable on a budget. I actually use a few take out food lids, silver on one side/ white on the other. One thing I've discovered, if you are shooting in jpg and have your camera's High Dynamic Range mode enabled, this can really change the look of your shots significantly. Look forward to more vids! Take it easy!
Those are for the ones I would recommend. I used to have a Sony but I love Canon. With todays cameras though, you can’t go wrong with any of them. I would still vote Canon though :p
do you have any recommendations for any free photo editing software? I can't afford things like photoshop so all my shots are pretty much the raw unedited photos, but I've been wanting to try out photo editing.
Some free ones I’ve tried are Snapseed and the basic photo editor on iPhone. Adobe has Lightroom and photoshop on phone for free. They are like a simpler version though but still good to start. I’ve had a lot of people recommend Picsart too. I think it starts out free and then you can buy add on stuff.
Another good video! I just have a quick question about exposure on the camera. Does the exposure meter on the camera have to be right in the middle on (0) in order to get the correct exposure? I know you have to be close to (0) give or take. I feel like if it's not in the middle, its not right; so I'm always nit picking that meter to death lol just so I have perfect exposure. Also does it even matter if your shooting in raw? Thanks for any info you might have to help me out. Looking forward to the next video. Ps, I like all your videos but I enjoy the longer ones best. Take care.
Ayy thanks a ton! Yeah, that used to mess me up a lot. You actually can’t always use. I know camera brands will be different and there’s different modes to use to get the reading. But if your subject is dark or there’s a lot of contrast, it won’t give an accurate result. It will say it’s too dark. So I really don’t look at it much anymore. And thanks haha does this count as a long video? I try to make them brief so more people will want to watch 😅
@@amusingking I was thinking of that Venta? Black (That super dark black that absorbs almost all light) lol. Although I would be curious how a normal sheet of black paper would reflect. Would the tone be neutral or something else?
Great tutorial thanks!!! 👏🏻🤖🙏
You’re welcome! Glad you liked it 🙌🏼

And for the most part, if shooting in raw the meter won’t matter much anyway because you will have so much control after to edit.
@@amusingking Cool, thanks for getting back to me. Yeah lol 5 min videos are good.
💯!!

"everything reflects light" Proceeds to grab the blackest piece of paper I can. 😂
