- How to build a raft that is leed resistant. NOT leed proof. This is a raft that is very functional and should be able to get you from point A to point B.

I've done this on an official server. I do mine different. I don't put walls going into water, that may be the difference. Howbeit I do like she does starting out 3x3 foundation and yes I put a foundation on the boat control, so I can add a roof line on back with walls. I then put one line of roof to right side with a dino gate with ramps. Then one line of roofs on front. Only part that gets a roof enclosure is from gate to front and only 2 walls high( makes easier to see where ya going. I'm able to fit everything I need in this build to live out of with a handful of dinos. Use enclosed roof top as my argy pad. Hmmm.... Maybe a vid be better than describing it...but oh well.

Gotta tell my story .... New on a server on ASA, have to build out raft with base as I search for new home out of render distance on strong community server. A few days in, so I've leveled up a bit, farmed the drops, got a 297% pike, which is my go to. Sailing along, pass Carnie Island in NE, hugging the coast because ... yeah ... him. Passing the area where the ice juts out just after the usual carnage happening on the north shore (we call it Meat Alley), and I hear HIM, and he has Megladon friends. Throw on the riot gear I found in drops, jump into ocean to fight for my raft base's survival. I piked the ever living shit out of all of them as they were focused on the raft. Got a ton of prime from the dead whale. But my raft took a beating. Hopped off, gathered necessary resources to repair raft and sail on, went to repair raft, F'd up and hit destroy by accident (my server's settings apparently don't do the slow crawl to make sure you REALLY want to do this), and destroyed the raft and all of my base by accident. I shit you not. Took over 60 hours to get back to where I was ... NOW I can sail on.
It was an actual physical reaction as I felt the blood rush from my head to my heart. If I had a mirror at that moment I would have loved to see myself just go pale and staring at the screen, aghast at what just happened. I did not yell out, resisted urge to slam head against desk, shook my head ... and started rebuilding.
I tried to explain this existential crisis to my wife, who was going a bit "aggro" as it was now approaching 3AM, but she does not ARK (peace be upon her, obviously) and had zero idea of the tragedy that had occurred.
But you all know and I am sure can feel my pain.
Thank you for coming to my Ted Talk. I fell better telling people, who I don't know, but I do know can relate.
Final note: My grandson is out of my will for getting me into this game I absolutely love to hate to love.

When people say starter base or boat base, usually it’s a little advanced. This is honestly what I imagine as a starter boat base. It’s perfect for beginners

I don't think this would've worked in ASE. You had to do a lot to keep em off you on there. But you could do a lot more with the structures on there too.
It's pretty good though, until you come across an alpha... maybe metal structures would help a bit there...
Also if you can build under the raft, use a couple pillars to extend below and add a layer of ceilings as a shield.. like a skid plate on a car.

Weird glitch I keep having: When I load the game, the raft does not appear in the world with all the construction on it. It can take a few minutes before it finally appears, both visually and in terms of collision. If this happens, do not go onto the raft before everything pops in or you could get stuck. Also a possible issue if you exited the game (or saved before a crash) while on the raft.
That said, I love this. I took it halfway around the island to get obsidian and oil and honestly it's fantastic.

Just make sure the raft isn’t clipping through any rocks or anything when you exit the game next time. That seemed to help for me
@@Newnate75 That's a good point. That hasn't been an issue for me so far, just getting stuck in the foundations when they popped back in.
This happens when I log out with the raft unrendered. All my dinos fall through because every other construction blocks disappear.
yeah i get the same issue. any dinos on the raft will fall through into the water and get eaten by sharks too 😓
You can also make sure you have materials on you to repair the raft. I do and it's saved my raft multiple times.

Leeds Dangerous goes straight to the raft unit and avoids structures... Leeds are an anti exploit against players mass spawning rafts on a Server. The more rafts the more Leeds and alphas and the more damage they do to your rafts.. an early duping exploit used torches on rafts to cause lag on a server then use the lag to exploit the obolisk save routine .. Leeds were the WC to remove spam rafts. That why early Leeds could spawn in any water becaus rafts could be made in any water.
So instead of actually fixing the issue they just added a bandaid solution that really only serves to annoy and Inconvinience us players? Sounds about right for wildcard.
I doubt any of that seen as Leeds don't go in shallow water and rafts do.

the fact about leeds is they ignore all structures when they attack , doesnt matter what you use or build they can hit the raft through it. even metal is useless. but this ramp idea is intresting it did seem to keep it to far away to make an attack . i will be testing this further, its a good idea. ive hated leeds since they got in the game, they absolutly ruin boat play in the game. fyi if you make the motorboat it can outrun the leeds easily
Motorboats are an absolute must if you hate leeds. I prefer them, but this works for early game. Kinda. If you never see an alpha.
I tried a similar build without walls going down, but unfortunately an alpha leed found me before a regular one, so I don't know if it would have worked. With my newer build, I've been keeping to the shallows to avoid risking it. Probably need to go find some plant species X for my old anti-leed raft design.
I'm so sorry an alpha found you. I'm trying a design now to see if I can make one that helps with alphas. Even if simply adds more health to the raft. But I'd love to see your build!
This may be already in the comments somewhere, but when starting, grab the rudder and let go. This will center and align you with the hole where the sail was. Eyeballing it can offset your build and look terrible. 🤓

I don’t play modern ark for some reason and been playing ark time capsule mode, and I been playing the game for a few weeks, but I’m do having fun.
I haven't tried this in ASA but in Evolved, I put plant X turrets on all for corners of the raft and set to attack wild creatures. This should slow the leeds down and help you get away.
hello, I followed the explanations to the letter, I am on an unofficial server, and I can affirm that the leed causes damage to the raft by completely ignoring the foundations, so no longer seems to work :)

what about if you used metal stuff instead of stone? would that make it leed proof for all but the alphas?

No it still gets one shot by the alpha make , motor boat they have more health and don’t get one tapped by the alpha

How would this wwork using a motor boat? would that be even better or does it not matter?
Motorboats are much faster and have more health. Plus, they allow more structures. It would take a lot for a leed to take one of those down.

Actually I'm commenting as I'm building it. Haha. I ran into another issue. I think it may be the difference between original Ark and Ark ascended. I can't place pillars along the railings like you have. I'll play with alternate ideas

Not every player has a stack. But just toss some honey 🍯 overboard. You'll be just fine. It worked in ASE wonder if it still works in ASA

could just plant a couple X plants on sloped roof slanting to the rear. each hit will slow it down

@@UnicornBite_ yes and super effective. i usually make a turtle shaped ship with like 12 of them and use it for alfa hunting. and its easy to "fuel " when you see what force feeding a stack of stimberries does to a chubby piggy XD. i love the raft life. currently my base consist of 4 maxxed out in size rafts. 1 house boat. 1 trap raft. 1 farm raft and 1 dino parking. all with walkways so i can walk from 1 to another when parked like modular build. you can extend it really wide by placing a thatch flat roof then foundations snap to underside of it and you remove the thatch again. when no more stone can be placed you can still place another ring of wood floors.

It can! Use walls instead of rails on the sides to enclose the structure.

I'll be putting this to use but I have a question how do you permanently get rid of your death marker icons?
I'm assuming there has to be a setting somewhere. I always have to manually do it each time I spawn in.

I just take a Baryonex when it hits first tiem jump on Bary and annihilate everything that swims in 1km direction
Why use storage boxes? Preserving bins hold more stacks.
I usually put things such as chitin, armor, etc, just things I find in storage boxes or in the smithy. The preserving bin is for perishables and I'd rather utilize it for such. You're free to do as you wish. I was just showing what I use. 💗
@@UnicornBite_ fair enough . I have realized that storing spark powder in preserving bins is counter productive if you aren't trying to slow spoilage , so I keep my spark powder in the mortar pestle or smithy next to forge.

Interesting. Questions I don't have answers to yet: Does it work on Evolved? if you extended the ramps out one more, would it keep the alpha away? I'm assuming the alpha has a larger bite radius. Depending on server settings, the ramps could go all around and underneath the boat, at which point you could ignore/farm Leeds.
I'm not sure about ASE. Leeds seemed to ignore my builds on ASE for the most part. I do however see your point, and I want to try this.
I did try this last night! It essentially made the raft leed proof... EXCEPT for Alpha Leeds. But honestly it was pretty nice to just scoot along with a pet leed chilling behind me.
Nice to know Unicorn. I’m going to modify my raft. On Evolved I used adobe which I know isn’t available on this map. It made the boat Leeds proof.

I am actually considering this. I was going to do that on solo but I've been told solo is too easy, even when the level is changed. Do you recommend a dedicated server for it?
@@UnicornBite_ no to be honest I wouldn't know the difference I only play official PvP so my ark life is a half life always on the move always resetting so many deaths lol your judgement would be the best judgement

I'm so sorry. I think there have been a lot of updates and patches since I made this video. Unfortunately my PC can't handle ASA any longer so I haven't been able to update the build

It seems like the material doesn't matter to leeds. If they hit at the right angle, it'll do direct damage to the raft.

That's correct, you cannot. They changed it from what you used to be able to do in ASE.

So metal doesn't seem to matter to leeds. I wouldn't waste the materials on it just in case you run into an alpha leed.

This is only leed resistant when running away. It will be eaten alive if you decide to stay anywhere for a minute.
Correct, hence me saying "if you keep things moving". If you sit still, it's gonna destroy the raft.
So this doesn't make any sense... Unless they change the way the mechanic works. Because in evolved it didn't matter if it was thatch or Tek they would bypass it and go straight for the raf's health.
I completely understand what you're mentioning. However, with normal leeds for some reason the ramps keep the leed too far away to do damage. I'm not sure why and I'm assuming it will probably change in the future. That being said, alpha leeds go straight to the core health no matter what.

I'd like to say I'm confident in sarcos not being able to get onto the raft. However, I haven't tested it for that specific occasion. However, I'll be happy to try this and let you know!
@@UnicornBite_ we had 3 sarcos attack our raft yesterday resulting in myself dieing twice and loosing all our storage boxes and beds

I honestly haven't powered up Ark in a long time. One of the updates caused my PC to crash a lot. I can see if it'll work though! And if it doesn't I'll see if I can figure something else out for you guys.

I just use the "r.water.singlelayer 0" to see through the water to avoid them.
