You have the easiest technique for sinking the foundation. It worked perfectly and was so easy to align.

Hey bro, i know im late but man i remembered rafts in ark and i started making my base on it, ark is a truly good game, i will use to tame thy dinos when i get home. Thanks, this revived my nostalgia.

I just started doing your tutorial but i can't place a foundation under the thatch ceiling. (unfortunately im on mobile)
Sometimes, it works with a wooden ceiling. I'm not entirely sure about the mechanics of mobile building. Something like this may not be possible. I don't have much experience with mobile.

Any reason not to make it a perfect rectangle? You have two squares indented/omitted in the back. Is that just for looks, or is there a reason?
Usually I'm in the center ill stand there when I'm taming so I don't get hit. You could make it a perfect rectangle if the server settings allow it. I was just saving materials by making it this way.

Thanks! You either break down one side, build ramps to get out, or use cryopods.

The building I've done so far, you be able to actually just extend it with the walls...at least I noticed that was a thing now.

Sometimes you have to pull the raft out a little further from the shore so it works.
How do you get Dino’s like the trike out of the taming pen?
At first I would just break the wall to get them out. Then I just used cryopods.
Probably a bit late but I’m on PlayStation and keep getting told “can’t place foundation, too far away from the platform” is there a way to fix that?
You just gotta move the raft away from shore a little bit.
I just been building this and it took a while and I'm survival but then my friends spawned a bloody leedsychtys and it destroyed it. I was using it as my base as well and they didn't even spawn it back or something or kill the leeds

Yes...they can destroy wood structures or anything considered that tier.

Since the base raft is still made of wood, can the leedsichthys still destroy it?
Leedsichthys can destroyed any raft no matter what its made out of.
Great video, I have done the thatch ceiling and foundation trick, but when I try to but the 6 walls up at the far end it says no foundation support?
You have to snap foundations underneath. At a certain point you can't anymore and then you can do ceilings bit even those can only go 2 out.
im having the same problem, i followed your video to the nail but i can't put the end or the last layer of the ramp on
The end sometimes won't work depending on how many pieces you have. This isn't on official rates so the limit structures are a little more. You just have to make the taming pen a little smaller.
Does the thatch roof trick to tack on extra foundations work on platform saddles? I would love to make a mobile taming pen out of a quetz but it feels so limited in space.
Yes it does! There's more of a limited on mobile dino bases even when you do turn things up but yes it'll work.
I think you can build like a 5x5 but if you build long ways you can build up to 6 I believe. Each platform is different mostly because the surface area is different. Sometimes you can get more surface area by attaching ceilings, but it has the same rules as regular build where you can only put 2 out.
@@Fynixmech I tested it and made an improvised Tek Quetz pen! Unfortunately they're tall so the only way I can get ramps down far enough is right in the middle bottom (or else the dreaded "too far from platform" popup) so I can't use the ramp method proper and will have to box them in manually. Still, it's decent for smaller tames! Just probably won't get a Rex in there. XD I built my smithy and kitchen on the roof to make more room, and have some windowed walls to shoot through from the "balcony." Tested it on a beaver and it seemed okay. Thanks for the vid, it gave me a lot of inspiration! Maybe if you come up with a platform saddle(s) version, you can make a vid on that, too? It's fun to see different methods.

Hi, love the video but when I try the thatch ceiling technique it still says I can’t place foundations because it’s too far away from the platform, do you know a solution to this?
Sometimes you have to get underneath the ship or move the ship away from the shore a little. It's trying to snap to the floor and not the ceiling.

It keeps wanting to place the stone foundation on the fence. Is there a way to fix this
If its lowered then it's not a problem. You can try to change the snap points when placing it.

No worries. On ascended it does snap to the foundation. If you don't want that you can eyeball it and lower it yourself. I have a couple of videos on boats in ascended you can check out if that seems a little confusing.
Can anybody help me why I can’t sink the pillar in the beginning? Because of this my foundations are higher than yours. Only by a little but I can’t snap foundations to ceiling like you’ve shown or drive the raft cause the foundations need to be sunk that little bit more? Dunno if you can do it on Assended?
This raft won't work on Ark Survival Ascended. I recently made a video that works as a dino taming trap for Ark survival ascended.
By using stone and sinking the foundations , does this help protect against alpha leedsichthys ? I love taming boats but last one I had didn’t fair well against alpha leed
No...it doesn't matter what you build out of, a leedsichthys can still attack the boat. Their AI is a little weird right now and you can build stuff out from the boat to keep the whale away from the raft structure. They may change this in the future though.
This works on ASA...on ASE the only thing to do is to stay close to the shores. Honey works on regular Leeds. For the alpha you need a motorboat, but they can still catch up if you move in a straight line in open water.

I’ve got a metal farm raft for asa cause I figure with being able to pick up our structures now I’ll just reuse the same traps. However I didn’t account for all the pillar spams 😢. How would you add to this for an argent trap? I’ve got one on an island that’s not pillard off, but I’d love to ko and bring back to base instead of bed hopping for narc before I bring the prime meat
I'm working currently on some ASA raft builds. I can work on a flyer one but that pretty much comes down to putting ceiling on top somehow.
The thatch foundation trick doesn’t work anymore it looks like it says the structure is to far from the platform can anyone please tell me what I’m doing wrong?

I'm trying to build this right now and I'm having difficulties placing the walls at the front most foundations due to them "requiring nearby foundation support" despite following the video. Any ideas on how to fix?
Sometimes you need to change the settings on your server if possible. If that doesn't work sometimes you may have to shift the entire floor back or forward one, depending on where you need the support.
Is this only a pc thing? Or can it be done on console too?

In advanced settings there is a setting all the way at the bottom called increase structure platform limit or sum like that and just bump it up

@Fynixmech Yes, I built my own raft base, but wasn't able to put a taming pen, I went onto a different world in creative and tried this. But it still didn't work no matter what I did
when i drive the raft i cant see outside and im still just stuck in first person... any help?
Just scroll your mouse wheel and it'll be ok

You hold selection and a wheel should show up allowing you to select it.

You can use cryopods. You can also push it out of the boat by using a rock or tree you're driving by. I did an example of that in my 100 days. You can also break a wall. I used to make this build with dino gates, but they don't do this anymore. If you have a flyer you can also just pick it up.

It should...sometimes you just have to pull the boat out further.

Sometimes you just have the move the boat out a little further. It doesn't detect the snap point on the boat and thinks you're trying to place it on the ground in the water.

Yeah if it was made of metal. You wouldn't be able to tame it from the boat but it would fit.

It should be in your settings. You have to adjust how many platforms you can have on a structure.

Will this design still work in the new version of Ark?
I haven't played too much with the building mechanics yet but technically yes it should. I'll have to test the technique but from a building standpoint with placement it should be the same.
@@Fynixmech I'll play around on ASA with it this weekend. The new building system allows for foundations to be raised or lowered in the new build menu. I'll try to see if that also works on rafts and if foundations will still snap to ceilings. I will respond here with my findings.

It's a setting that says platform structure limit...just bump the slider up

Official settings are usually the default...unless you changed them.

That's weird....you should be able to put structures on no matter what you play on.
Why have walls 3 high? 2 High is good for a TRex.
3 walls really only needed on the one side so it doesn't jump it cause I've had that happen before.

No worries. If they can be picked up by a flyer I do it that way. If not then I just break a wall a rebuild it later.

Hey dude! I know i am super late but If I tame like a Trex in there, how do I get it out?
If its ASE you can use cryopods to get it out or take out the one wall. It's annoying, but that's how you'd do it. You can also put ramps down to walk it out then pick them back up if you do it fast enough.

I can't snap the walls to the front foundations (it says I need a nearby foundation), any ideas on what's wrong?
It may be too far away from the raft. Some of the same rules apply as on land building.
