Legend has it that he is still subdividing the pulse.

Next I'm gonna subdivide the pulse by how many days it takes Tool to release a new album

9 and 10 sound really cool! 12 sounds like a steam train!

9's and 10's are really cool groupings... (9's are actually a triplet sounding group) I use them sometimes for drum fills in a rock / metal context. 🤘🏻🥁

this was prolly the result of Gavin getting pissed at Steven Wilson for him busting out the typical lead's line: "can't you just play a straight beat?!"

It’s more off an exercise off time keeping than to use in songs. You will use most note values from 1 to 8 in some shape or another with 1 - 4 being the most common but having a handle on all off them from 1 to 12 will only strengthen and improve your time.
Even if you don’t use them practically within music it’s still very useful to practice and work on all off the sub divisions.
The point off learning them isn’t to use wherever on any track, it is to have them if you Need them or if it is appropriate to play within the context off the tempo style, phrasing and music.

      You've misunderstood the point.
This isn't a lick to be learned. This is an understanding of time and how rhythm can be played within the bar.

@@user-tu9ze2tl7d You can use 9's and 10's in drum fills... Great for rock / metal.
