I would like to first say thank you so very much for being an amazing inspiration to all the young black women like myself who have never seen people who LOOK like us in positions such as yours. It has really done wonders for my confidence and assured me that if you can do it, I can too!!!!! As a future oral surgeon, THANK YOU! When I was little I told my parents that I want to be a doctor and I loved medicine, but I worked the entire pandemic as a CNA, while going to school and taking on responsibilities at home…
and It almost broke me. A few months back you were discussing how burnt out you felt at the time and I related to that experience almost too well. But what really inspired me is how you told yourself and us that it is normal to feel such things and made sure to document your experience. You prioritized your health and life and didn’t let society bully you for needing a moment’s rest. This made me realize that I am not alone and although it is hard plenty of amazingly strong women are persevering, thriving even. It’s a marathon and not a race. Everyone’s journey is different and there is not a unilateral experience. Thank you-
