As a black woman attorney who was 1 of 12 black people in my entire law school and am currently 1 of 5 black attorneys in my entire office (of over a hundred attorneys), this video resonated with me on a deep level! Especially the last 15 or so minutes. Because I went to an HBCU as well for undergrad (CAU!) and it was hard having to not only feel like I had to better than everyone else due to them making me feel as though my alum was inferior, but being a black woman who didn’t want to be judged or dismissed based on my ethnicity. This video was a breath of a fresh air!

The last part of your video really touched me. I was watching this as I was getting ready for work. I was in the midst of taking down my hair for a braid out style and I started to get anxious about how others would react. I usually don’t care what others think about my hair and fully embrace it, but I’m currently traveling as a MA and I work in a clinic as the only black person everybody else are middle age white Women with the exception of one Asian lady. Needless to say I’m rocking my curls proudly this morning as I always do ❤😊.

I'm in health care also and the struggle with our hair is real. Its maddening. When I started my career, my age was also an issue. The patients consistently asked me for the bedpan or after an examination ask for the doctor. SMH

I needed this! I’m a non traditional student getting my bachelor’s degree studying economics and minoring in math and I often feel that I’m not smart enough to be in these spaces. Like I can get so defeated and not even want to try sometimes. So at the start of this semester I started by filtering out all negative thoughts about my course work and I am saying positive affirmations everyday while putting in the work to understand course work and be successful in my classes. Thanks for sharing your experiences with us… it is very comforting. ❤❤

Within this last year I’ve had my 1st experience with colorism in the work place. Due to my high passion in the medical field I overlooked it until I recognized that they really don’t see the difference of me doing something versus them. I’m always getting called to assist the providers and get side eyed. I continue to give my all to the people I serve at work and keep it pushing. I love that you make this a safe space for us 🫶🏽

Dr. Dre I empathize with you regarding the earrings lol. I am a Virgo too. I am a few years older than you. I never stopped wearing new balances, but now they are more popular, and I almost don't want to wear mine because everybody wears them lol. It is sad in 2023 we still have to deal with hair issues. I never change up my hair for interviews because I want them to see me for who I am. Whether I am wearing a relaxed pixie or fresh wash and go. Hair is not interfering with my ability to think lol.
