A zillion thank-yous for taking the time to explain these concepts. I have been using SU for years and have been lamenting its instability to produce 2D output until LO became so powerful.

I greatly appreciate the passion and enthusiasm you infuse into your SketchUp projects. Your bold approach not only showcases your expertise but also highlights your unique ability to bring life and excitement to architectural designs.
Thank you for continuously pushing the limits of creativity in SketchUp and inspiring others, including myself, to explore new horizons in design. I look forward to witnessing your future endeavors and the incredible work they will undoubtedly entail.
    Warm regards,

I am a Revit guy VERY interested in transitioning to Sketchup for custom homes and multifamily projects. I would love to see a series showing the entire process of the transition from Revit to Sketchup, like a "Day In The Life Of A Hopeful Sketchup Convert". A non-scripted, from scratch process of an experienced residential Sketchup guru taking a relatively complex project from hand concept sketch to completion, including a couple of substantial project edits along the way, warts and all. Something with a 9 degree angle shift in the plan or something. I would also like the narration be a discussion added after the completion so that the modeler focuses on efficient completion of the project. It would be very interesting to see it done for a couple of different complexities of projects by the same modeler to see how much the more complex model "trips up" the modeler. About to order your latest book. Thank you for your videos!

I'm in the process of getting a book together on this whole process. It has evolved quite a bit, since this video was produced.

Man he makes those simple sketchup models really shine!
I mean what's a tradeoff? Instead of that glossy superrealistic looks other render engines provide (after days of fiddling), you have a fast, efficient and easy way to draw the idea with added bonus of transferring 3D model directly into 2D drawings.

HI Kyle - funny you should request that. I recently trained a structural engineer to do all his work in Layout and SU. We've done three projects now and they are the best coordinated drawing sets I've seen to date.

It is a very good idea to model the section cut separately, I am going to apply it right away. Thank you~

Hi Nick I use a PC - in this video I was using a machine with an i72600 processor, 1gb Nvidia 550Ti, 16 gb ram. I currently use an Origin machine - i73790 processor, 4gb Nvidia GTX 680, 180 gb SSD, 64 gb of memory. I can't say enough about the Origin machine. Incredibly fast and stable.

Thanks for the comments. The base file is the only one you edit. The other models only need to be updated to reflect changes. Changes are simplified by proper organization of the model utilizing groups and components for all individual elements.

Hello Nicк. I am building wooden frames, but the problem is that the pillars have large cross-sections, which take up a lot of space in the room and it is not convenient to place furniture. How do you solve these problems? for example, in my house 6mx3m there is nowhere to live due to the frame)) sorry for my English Google translation

Fantastic Videos and Thank you for sharing your knowledge.
QUESTION: Like everyone else, I still don;t understand how you have manage minor changes in multiple sketchup models which are copies of the same "parent" model and keep the "children" models updated and accurate. I realize you can update from within Layout but I'm not aware of any way to link sketchup models in sketchup itself.

Thanks Hugh, I'll try it tonight and see if it works. I'm a Revit'er but also a Skethuper for many many years. I'll post if it works or not.

Select file > import and then choose skp model as the option. Find your original Sketchup file, and when you click import, it will add the model similar to the way you would add an x-ref in CAD. It should also let you edit it in place, though I'm not sure if those changes will be saved back to the master model, especially if it is already open.

Andrzej, you should keep a master file that is only the chair. This is then inserted into your other models. Anytime you want to change or edit the chair design, you only change it in the master file. In the other files, you then right click on the chair and "reload model".

Very impressive Sir, I am a IT Comms Room designer and I have been using Sketchup for some time now to design Comms rooms within a given space available/set aside for IT environments. I use Sketchup to size and model the rooms to make sure they deliver services with future expansion and maintenance considerations also taken into account all the equipment fits into the given space available. I do however struggle to convey the finished designs concepts and end up reverting back to Microsoft Visio for layout drawings, which is a shame and I hate using CAD, I have also started 3D printing off the environments but this takes a long time creating models to convey the finished product.
Can you advise me where best go for educational literature or online training in layout and any pointers would be most appreciated.
To an end your drawings and presentations are wonderful.
    Take care
    Simon

Nick .... was wondering how you were generating roof plan line work for consultant exportation? I noticed in one of your vids where you were showing a stack of line work that you export to your consultants and I thought I saw in there what looked like a roof plan

Awesome method of compiling architectural and construction information! One question - can someone clarify how you keep multiple copies of the same model referenced and/or updated? Many thanks

Yes I'd like to know. If a wall is moved a bit, you have to do it in all files separately, or is it possible to draw base geometry in a specific layer and only update this layer all files, but how?

Hi David. There are several options to produce the LW. Native SU has an option as well as several plug-ins. I'll go through these options in my upcoming book.

Great work! You do very complex work in SKP and Layout. Learning a lot. But to do that, what specs Mac do you have? I don't think I can do what you do with mine. Thanks.

How do you "reference" your building models? Do you just "reload" it as a component each time you open up a model with the building referenced?
