  • Filmed over a two year period, join Matt as he gets his good old Baja Dirt Bug mini bike up and running again. Staying true with his love of keeping things original, he goes the hard route to get a little more torque out of this micro-beast. Enjoy!

    I have a new Coleman ct100u , 3hp engine.I put a tachometer/hour meter on it so I don’t over rev it.

    That's known as a Doodle Bug here in the states. A tough, popular bike that is very easy to modify. The commom trend is to 212 swap them. The little stock engine is great though if you just like cruising around.

    • @mattsws
      @mattsws  3 роки тому +2

      Thanks for the info! Honestly, with the lack of suspension, I wouldn’t want to go much faster than the stock engine can give… The 212 mod would be best suited for a teenager who doesn’t mind a sore back! Thanks for watching!!!

      @@mattsws Matt...you can put stiffer springs in the stock engine's clutch so it revs up higher before the clutch engages, especially for heavier kids, you don't need the 212 Predator unless you are going to modify it Or like gobs of low end torque : I'd advise a Torque Converter if sticking with the Stk Engine with heavier riders..cheers T

      @@trevinskiking2165 You are absolutely right about the stiffer springs! It ended up being a lot of work, but when I made this video I was set on my idea of using a bigger sprocket. Work out well, but the springs would have been easier! Thanks for watching!

    Had exact same engine, replace carb with $13.00 adjustable carb (non epa) on Amazon. Also air filter plastic cover way too restrictive, cut some slats out of middle air filter cover. Went from 27 mph to 32

      @@mattsws idk if you have Instagram. I could send you a pic to make it a little bit easier. But there’s like no adjustments I can make for it to run properly. It’s either to tight or to loose. I either need new springs or a throttle cable. I could also be missing something I’ve been watching videos on them and nothing seems to help.

    • @mattsws
      @mattsws  3 роки тому

      Sorry, don’t have Instagram… Take a look at the video at about 9:00 mark. You can see how smooth the throttle should move. A few seconds later, you can see the governer linkage assembly below. Pause the vid and make sure everything is hooked up the same. If that doesn’t work and the movement is still stiff, you might have to change the throttle cable. This can happen is the bike has not run in a long time and has been left outdoors or in a damp place. Hope this helps!
