I have an artist right now doing my 2.0 debut avy for me, and they had a critical incident that left them without a computer and tablet temporarily, and they asked me if I wanted to continue the commission or get a refund after the initial turnaround on Vgen had passed. I told them I was COMPLETELY empathetic and didn't mind waiting because I don't have a debut scheduled (and I wont until I have the art done, I'm not pressuring anyone with the way shit happens in life). We have been back and forth a bit in communication with each other, and sometimes it takes a day or two to get back, but communication MATTERS. I'm sure they were scared to tell me what happened, not wanting to lose out on a customer when that's a lot of money to lose if they couldn't do it, but I'm an artist too and a chronically ill one at that! I totally understand shit happens, and it means more to me to try and talk (even if you are socially anxious, you can always send me a worried emoji or something and I will go golden retriever mode and try to make you feel safe to open up) instead of clam up and disappear. All it takes is a small time investment and a little empathy. That's apparently wild and crazy for some people? Maybe you're not someone who should be a client then. I feel bad for the artist getting a chargeback outta nowhere like that, it's just scummy.
I do to that is scummy, also i appreciate you going out of your way to try and make people feel comfortable to try and open up it can be hard for some people.
If that person wanted the sketch in 9 days then they need to pay a priority fee I’m not rushing my process yes I work fast but if you need the artwork at a certain time frame you need pay for that.
@@CosmiccNovaTrue, but that’s not always the case I had people who waited until the last minute to hit me up wanting artwork and wanted me to rush. I can prioritize their project but I let them know I need more money for that. People pay more money when they want specific special services when it comes to art all of sudden people get weird I let them know in a professional manner.
I still remember my first commissioner asking me to send them an invoice and I was a bit intimidated because I didn’t know what it was, but I looked it up, and I never looked back. I will ONLY work with people who send invoices or pay them.
I was in the same boat like you until yesterday. Before 2018, I was told by others that I should sell my art, because the genuinely think it's good. I got people asking me if I did commissions. But I never did because I was too intimidated, and I felt I wasn't ready. Until yesterday, a person I knew and talked with for a long time decided to really ask again if they could commission me (They expressed how they would have been stoked a couple of years ago, but I told them I was just busy at a few things). I decided to just take a leap, as otherwise I would have never gotten to do commissions in my life ever. As this had always been my dream since little. Making invoices was what intimidated me. But I just threw caution to the wind and just do it within my PayPal. It was REALLY simple, and I wish I wasn't intimidated in the first place. It was so silly to think about! Hope you are still going strong!
Start drawing things around you! Then try drawing you. I started with that too. Once you're good enough and see how much skill you already have then you can start the route of watching UA-cam tips such as how to draw heads, eyes, faces, anatomy and whatever else! try and find your style doing so too!
If they chargeback without saying anything, ghost the artist, AND delete their account after… say it with me now, THEY’RE A SCAMMER I can’t think of a single logical reason on why they would do this if they’re not guilty
As an artist myself I stopped doing commissions because of things like this and commissions aren’t fun anyway. The stress and anxiety is not worth even $100
As someone who has paid for several art commissions in the past, they will always vary time wise. Some I got in less than a month, some I got months later, hell I didn’t get a commission till almost a year later cause of the artist opening their commissions for the first time ( and they did make this very well known that many of the commissions will take time to get out to everyone ). There will always be some variables that might take the artist longer to deliver an art piece. But this case only 9 days, and already they filed for a charge back without warning is wild.
My theory is this is a person who resells models…maybe made a sale before the secured the model so now they were panicking and just lashed out to hide their scam…maybe even a bit of jealousy that they can’t do it themselves
Its insane to expect an artist, who likely takes multiple commisions on at once, to focus on only your work. This would be unhinged even if they were commisioning an industry artist, but expecting it of a freelance/indie artist is wild.
As a commissioner I actually prefer it when artists send me an invoice on paypal rather than request the money normally! I find it a lot more convenient tbh.
"9 days is too long for sketches" no it actually isn't tbh. If you go to a tattoo shop and they stencil on your tattoo and your stencil has imperfections and needs changes but you just get the tattoo anyways you'll be staring forever at a fucked up tattoo. The sketches of your art piece is UBER important because they are the FOUNDATION. If you fuck up the foundation then the finished product can run the risk of being screwed up. Like a house. Your foundation being screwed up means you'll be dealing with eternal repairs unless you fully demolish something to fix the root cause. With art it's not as serious as a house but your finished product is what you want perfect and double and triple checking sketches is an important task for an artist to give you the best results.
Nahhhh they literally just had to drop a quick "Hey, do you have any updates for me?". It was THAT simple. From the DMs shown, there was no due-date discussed AT ALL. Rue arbitrarily decided a timeframe all on their own. This is absolutely not how any of this works, babe. Also they seem so hateful towards the community they were trying to get into??
I would definitely cry if a commissioner rushed tf outta me,the fact that they are hostile doesn't really help their case either. Vtuber Models take a very long time to make, especially with the rigging. The fact they are mad over not having a vtuber model sketch in 9 days is crazy, dont do this guys.
>For art you pay upfront because theres too much scamming shit that happens! As a frequent commissioner, I've had artists run away with my money after I've paid upfront. Now I have the idea that if the artist demands money upfront with no leeway of Half upfront/ Half after a certain stage, then I no longer want the commission. I've had waaaay too much money stolen from me in the past. The only artists I WILL absolutely pay upfront are artists I've had experience with. If I do pay upfront, I will no longer let them get past that 6 month period from paypal. Ill start asking questions around month 4 or 5. If no update or whatever is provided, I kindly ask for a refund or SOMETHING that proves to me work is being done
I am not a vtuber. But I am a furry and this happens in our community a lot. I am also a commission based artist, and I noticed that character designs are often flipped for profit. Not just art designs but full fursuits from big makers. Buy then flip rinse repeat; seeing it in the live2d vtube community does not surprise me. What does surprise me is that fact these people who claim to be in for the community or fandom but then do this? Like did you actually resonate with that character? Clearly not lol idk it’s all just a mess to me
The "In normal jobs, you work first then get paid' is wrong. Only jobs that impede on the customer's time do that (repair work, architecture, doctors, sit down restaurants...). And if they mean like being an employee, that is not the same cause an artist isn't working for a company, they get the money directly from the customer. The stuff you buy at the store was payed for BEFORE they made it and you're paying the store who already bought the item.
If someone commissions an artist, if they havent started the work ask for a refund. If you bought art and do a chargeback because "emergencies" that's your fault and you should plan better. ARTISTS ARE NOT YOUR PERSONAL BANKS!

The problem ive had is someone approached to make art. I told them my situation. Then they persistently pester me about setting up for art. Im like bro i cant do anything or pay for anytbing and i told them this.
getting paid half and half is extremely common in any industry where there is a long time commitment or required materials. also a lot of services require deposits up front as well for incidentals. a 9-5 sure is work first paid later, but with an artist the initial payment or deposit is to cover their rime spent making your item so they can eat for the week or whatever timeframe they need to complete your task. on top of that its a lot fewer industries where you can enjoy a good or service entirely before paying anything at all. I think it's really only food we commonly do that with. everything else is pay first then receive goods. het take is bad and she should feel bad.
If they asked for the money back for valid reasons it would be fine. If an artist gets to many charge backs it can lock there account. Also if you charge back the artist has to pay the fees. Communication!

If youl start tadictional art i recomend starting with penicils first, if digital art i recomend ibispaint(if you are a begginer)
