I actually helped a buddy put in LED strips because they add almost no height. Love this video.
Yeah I'm loving that these lights are low profile, thank you.

Thank you 😎
Thanks for the tip, I implemented it on my 5.9
Awesome, glad you found it helpful 👍
Definitely will be trying that out on my jeep.
Good to hear
Love the lights Martin.. Drove me to install 8 under the hood of my 05 RAM.. But instead of a mercury switch on the hood, I installed a waterproof toggle switch mounted on my radiator support, cuz I don’t want the LEDs on if it’s light outside.. Thanks for the video, love my new lights..!
Nice...I've been wanting to install some lights under hood since mine didnt come with a light...this is perfect. As always very informative vid...thanks 👍👍👍👍👍✌🤙🤘🏻
Glad I could help

Love your vids man. Wiring is probably one of my weakest links. And this was absolutely brilliant. Thanks!

Do it again brother, good job, tank you.!!!!!
Thank you too!

Thank you, Happy New Year!
Very cool mod!!!!
Glad you like it
As some one who works in a bodyshop, I enjoyed watching a clean install on those. How ever as some one that works in a bodyshop, I may have done it a bit different. I would have run a wire loom on the hood & not inside of if it, still run it in one direction like you went. I would have made the the lights be able to plug into each other. One if for some reason a light quit be a lil easier to replace, 2- if you get in a accident, the body shop will cut your wires and you have to work over again. I would have also used connectors either before you slide the wires thru the hole. This way the lights can be salvageable. Also where you connected the wires next to the latch, I would made extra effort as that where the safety catch is to make sure wires don’t get caught or rub against it.
Again, very nice and really clean install. I can tell you take pride in the work you do. 🤘👍
Now you just need to add a plug so you can disconnect it if you ever need to remove your hood, or just wait till that time comes and just cut it where you want the plug to be when, or if you remove the hood and install the plug then. Overall absolutely great job, I will be looking to do this mod on my 04 overland, and probablly several of my other cars. Thank you for the idea and all the great work you do on your channel.
Good point Chris, because eventually I looking to change the hood. Like you said I probably just cut the wires and then add the plug at that time.
Martin it’s always a pleasure to watch your videos. My wife wishes our garage was as organized as yours. Just curious what kind of work you do though.
I am a Low Voltage Tech with the IBEW 357. I work with fiber optics, AV, voice/data, stuff like that.
Just bought Joe a light for when we’re under the Jeep. Now we’ll look into a light for under the hood. Thank you Martin!! ❤️🐞
you are very welcome
Looks great. I always have trouble seeing some areas no matter how many lights.
Thank you. Wait till your eyes get to be 59 years old, lighting becomes a real big deal.
In the future, when I pull the engine, I'm probably going to add 1 or 2 more to the underside of the cowl to light up the back portion of the engine.
@@martinbuilt I'm 70 so I may be adding lights continuously :)
Very nice! I think I'll do the same, and put some in the rear cargo area, too!
Have you replaced your heater hoses? They look longer and routed slightly differently.
Thank you, yes after relocating the battery I rerouted the hoses so that they weren't going over the valve cover. I'm trying to make the engine bay look better and make it easier to work on the engine.
Ok love the idea here. Was thinking about trying to do something like they had in the old Silverados... Oh and where did you find that grill? Absolutely love it
Thank you, I made that grill. here is the video on it. ua-cam.com/video/GLnlaWFElWM/v-deo.html
Great stuff as always Martin. Huge fan. Was wondering if you thought of a way to make the drl's in the headlight come on as soon as you turn on the engine instead of having it turn on when you turn on your parking lights. Cheers.
thanks, I haven't thought about that, I'll consider it.
Where did you find the chrome valve covers?
Thanks Martin! I do have a question about the hood liner, as I see you are not running one which makes this install possible. Does the hood liner serve any other purpose on these except noise dampening? Have you had any issues with the paint on the hood getting too hot and flaking or anything like that?
I really want to do this light upgrade, but the hood liner on mine is in the way, so I am really wondering if there are any downsides to removing it.
Thanks and Happy Holidays!
I haven't had any problems, you could remove it to install the lights and cut the liner around the light fixtures as you reinstall the liner.
@@martinbuilt thanks! Yeah I might try removing it altogether and see how that goes. Thanks for the quick response and another great video!
I'm looking at getting an 03 with the HO as a project. Want to do a 242HD swap so I can go into 2WD and 4HI manually.
Cool I wish mine was an HO. I consider doing the same thing by installing the 242 so I remove the front drive shaft just to see what it was like in two-wheel drive mode which is fun but with my mods it tends to get away from me so I'm putting the front drive shaft back in and leaving it full-time 4 wheel.
@@martinbuilt with all the work you've done you could of installed an HO by now. You can do it Martin! Go go go go!
I have a 2002 Ram. It currently has an under hood light (if that's what you want to call it), and I was wondering if I could just wire into that line for four pods? Would it be enough to power the pods, or would I need to wire directly into the fuse box?
Yeah, that should actually work quite well. Those LED pods are a very low draw light.
I'm surprised my Jeep Grand Cherokee l
Limited didn't come with an underhood light being it is the Limited package.
@@martinbuilt Thank you! I'm guessing that also means that I don't need the tip switch?
@@crandallwoodworking2988 that's right 👍
Not sure if anyone asked the question, but does it ever light up when accelerating? Wondering if the liquid from the mercury ever travels towards the contact when driving forward.
This Jeep goes but not that fast...Lol
Are those rack bolts? That's what they look like anyway.
Yep that's what they are you must be in the same field as I am. Good eye.
@@martinbuilt I'm in IT; system admin. I'm no stranger to racking a server.
Did you relocate your evap canister ?
No my evap canister is located next to the fuel tank on the left side this is the stock location for the later model grand Cherokees. But if I had the earlier model grand I would have definitely relocated it located it to clean up the engine Bay.
@@martinbuilt thank you so much for the reply. This makes sense now because I have mine located under the hood In front of the brake fluid container. I’m going to consider relocating it.
Why not add some LED's on the firewall to better light up the back of the engine that is tucked away under the windscreen lip?
I was already experimenting with the one light I have left and installing it exactly where you're talkin. I will probably eventually about one down there.
I think I'll install those on my 2014 GMC Sierra in the glove box and my wifes 2017 GMC Denali those vehicles come with no glove box light pain in the butt.
That would work, It will be one bright glove box
You can send me a switch Martin lol ill help u get rid of the other 2 itd be great for under the hood in my zj iam bringing bk to life😂
Made me nervous drilling that close to eco harness 😩
No worries the harness was like six inches away plus I had a drill bit stop on the drill bit.
