An old lady once teached me this pattern. She passed away long time ago, but I sometimes take the stitch for shawls or hats. And then my thoughts go out to this lady. She could never remember the name for it-she had dementia and I was her caregiver. Now I know.. thanks to you.
I love using this stitch for scarfs. I learned how to do this stich just over 50 years ago, I was taught to cast on an odd number of stitches, I like your way better, with an even number cast on, that way sll the rows start with a knit stich. I find the hardest thing about this stitch is, to remember to not actually purl the stitch. I have always used this stitch for scarfs, but now, for the first time, I am using this stitch for making a potholder, I'm using size 8 needles to make it.
Several months ago someone asked me to knit a cowl with a certain stitch, but the sample cowl was store bought and machine knitted. I hand crochet and knit. Anyway, the closest stitch I could find for the project was double stockinette stitch. I fell in love with this stitch...I love the squishy-ness makes a super nice fabric... Using it, my project turned out great!!!! And got a bunch more orders as well!!!
Thank you for this tutorial of a quite fascinating stitch that I never imagined it's finished texture. Slow with clarity so we can follow. Much appreciated.
Stumbled upon this video and was curious about this stitch. Was so enamored by it, grabbed a set of needles and did a small swatch to try it out. Started and stopped this video as I knitted along (you have a very soothing voice) and fell in love with this stitch. What amazed me was how cathartic this stitch is. Have anxiety issues and when I start to get that feeling coming on, grab my goto bag to help me settle down and "chillax" with this. Or if while working on my current project need a break. On a side note: completely frogged a scarf that was not done but quite far along, but was unhappy with it curling in to start over with this stitch. So glad "found" you! Thank you 💞🥰💞
Nice. I am going to practice this today while my son has his class and see if my hands find this as easy as it looks. Thank you for including the cast on and bind off. I would not have known to bind off like that.
This is a great stitch. Thank you for sharing it slowly and carefully and exactly. It is easy to master once you can actually see how it works. Years ago I made a scarf with this stitch and it has held up for 40 years. You are wonderful Fiber Spider!!🥳🥳🥳🥳
I love this stitch. It's great for scarves. I've also made pillows with it. Separate the stitches so they're all on one needle (circular if you've got a lot of them), bind off, insert pillow form, seam opening (best to use kitchener or mattress)
This is a great stitch, and it doesn't curl. I was having trouble making the stitches come out right.Your explanation makes the pattern easy to do. Thank you so much. Karen Swenson
Thank you thank you thank you! Been wanting to learn this stitch for such a long time but never got it right before watching your video. So glad that I found this! Keep doing what you're doing!
Thanks for sharing this stitch. The last thing I knitted was a broken rib scarf and it took forEVER compared to crocheting a scarf. I guess that's why I don't knit much anymore. I have to admit - the scarf looked good though.
Knitting on circular needles always feels awkward to me until I have enough fabric to weigh down the plastic cord. I am going to try this but on regular needles. It looks like a simple pattern that has great results, thank you. Oh and I love how calm you are and how slowly you do this so we can really see what you're doing.
LOVE this stitch!!!!! Thanks for the great tutorial… you are such a wonderful teacher. I can see me using this for my next blanket with my handspun yarn!
I do k1, p1 across the row. One stitch pattern over and over. It gives the same affect. The next row k the k, p the p. The Ford the new bind off method...I'll give it a try. Love your teaching style!
Thank you so much for this tutorial I've knitted for years and never understood how to do this you made it so simple to follow can't wait to try it now 🙌
This is a wonderful simple stitch that makes a beautiful double right side fabric. Definitely going to use it in the future. Starting right now with a scarf for my son. It's an easy practical project that will also give me plenty of practice on this special stitch. Thank you very much for the thorough lesson. btw, since I'm knitting continental, I only need one movement to do the "yarn to the front ... yarn to the back" + the slpw. Easy peasy. I'd be happy to send you a picture of the scarf once I'm done if you only let me know how I can do that. 🙋🏻♀️🇮🇱
Ah, I CAN slip that last stitch.. I didn't know the name of this but over the space of about half an hour the other night I came up with it ... after I'd done a few inches it struck me this was how Mum made my brother's football scarves when I was a kid. A bit young to have been knitting or crocheting... as I was playing with the yarn, knowing I wanted to make a not ribbed scarf because there were colour changes... I had pop up in my head...knit 1, slip 1 purlwise... which of course gave me a Moss stitch look.... hmmm 🤔🤔 but then I thought maybe if I'm slipping purlwise the yarn should be in purlwise orientation... so that worked.... and my colour change worked fine too. I remembered Mums didn't have the defined sides like I have with knitting last 2... I'll continue as I am, it IS neat.. I'm wondering if a hat is possible now 🤔🤔
Thank you for this! Been taking a much needed break from crocheting, and my daughter just had brain surgery a couple days ago and is going to be going through a tough recovery and off work for 4-6 months, and has a 4 yr old son to support as well. I am disabled, so not much help. I started a fundraiser for her by making quick projects and this is perfect! Thank you again! Also, not sure if you have ever tried the Fisherman's Rib KNit Scarf Pattern for Beginners by Hooked for Life with Mary Beth Temple. It's a fun stitch as well and is identical on both sides. Thanks again and God bless!
Hey there Fiber Spider ✌🏻 thank you for that wonderfully easy tutorial! Although, it always boggles my mind to see others knit so complicatedly. Forgive me, it wasn't meant as veiled criticism, rather than, there's a much easier way!! 🤩 I will try to make a video 😉 Please let me emphasise again, how happy I am to have found this tutorial of yours, so now I can finally knit those Howard's House scarves like a pro 😎 I had always looked up doubleface tutorials, but as I'm working with one colour only... 😬 Well. Thanks again 🙏🏻 warmest greeting from across the world (Germany) 💕
:O oh wow!! i LOVE this!! :D ... Thank you, Craig :) .. hey, Craig... would you do a crochet tutorial to make a net-like hammock to hang in a child's room to hold their stuffed toys, please? i would like to make one using cotton yarn.. Thank you so much!!
I love the stitch and how you TEACH us slowly explaining the whole time!! I love LOVE your needles!!! Can you tell me about them? I know you said their name, but I would like to see how to spell it!! Thanks!!
This stitch does not have a lot of stretch. Itbis a singl color "doubke knit". It is not a substitute for 1x1 ribbing. It is for less bulk "layering", perfect for tea cozy, hot water bottle cover, blanket etc.
On the bind off instead of slipping that last stitch, could u knit it instead and eliminate the need for tacking down that immovable loop and if so, how much, if at all, would it be noticeable?
Do you by any chance have this technique with two colors.? So that it would be done the same but a different color on each side??? I would like to do a scarf that way. Thank you !!
Thank you so much for this tutorial 💗 I just have a couple of questions. How much yarn does this use compared to regular the stockinette stitch? Also, in regards to gauge, so 12 CO stitches = 6 stitches that show on each side ... How does this translate when using this stitch in a pattern?
What are the important differences between this and a k1p1 rib? This is faster, which I appreciate, yet the effect appears the same. Very well done tutorial, thank you!
The difference is that only the knit stitches show on each side. Another difference is that you can pull the front and back apart(it's a double layer) in fact this stitch, which I learned from Carol Duval in the 70's was referred to as the tube stitch. I made a small lap blanket with a 5 row 5 stitch garter stitch border all around (garter stitch is knit only) Hope this is clear. Thanks to Fiber Spider for this great stitch tutorial.
This stitch a a single color "double knit". It is less stretchy than a 1x1 rib. It is great for items you want to keep warmth via "layering" without bulk or stretch (tea cozy, hot water bottle cover, blanket etc).
During the rows you slipped one with yarn in front but I noticed you slipped off pearlwise but with yarn in back on the bindoff. Was that the change in the bindoff row?
I would think it would be less width for the amount of stitches, just like with k1 p1 ribbing. A swatch to see how much width a certain amount of stitches will give is surely needed.
Hello my number is Seden Hope you are well I was wondering if you have opened it a blanket I am learning how to knit a blanket but I am not very good at it I was wondering if you have opened it a blanket if you have could you show me how it’s done please I watch your UA-cam channel every day I love watching you you are my favourite crocheter
Casting on over two needles isn't a great idea. That elongates the loops and looks messy. Better to space out your cast on stitches so there is elasticity. Yours are touching each other.
Does anybody know a good source for stitch instructions where I don't have to listen to fifteen minutes of just talking before they just show the dang stitch? When I need to see how a stitch is done I don't need the demonstrators history or any other drawn out senseless blather, just the stitch. This is the stitch, this is how it's done, let me show you again, boom. Over.
An old lady once teached me this pattern. She passed away long time ago, but I sometimes take the stitch for shawls or hats. And then my thoughts go out to this lady. She could never remember the name for it-she had dementia and I was her caregiver. Now I know.. thanks to you.

YIPPEE, finally a Stockinette Stitch that doesn't curl up at the ends. I JUST LOVE THIS STITCH 🤩 💖 Vickie G
You can also try the fisherman's rib stitch or brioche knitting 😀
@@a.george8982 I love the Fisherman's rib, especially the one that makes both sides the same.
Several months ago someone asked me to knit a cowl with a certain stitch, but the sample cowl was store bought and machine knitted. I hand crochet and knit. I need the cast on lesson in slow motion. You taught me to crochet and now I want to try this. You are awesome
Thank you for this tutorial of a quite fascinating stitch that I never imagined it's finished texture. Slow with clarity so we can follow. Much appreciated.
Where has this stitch been all of my life?? 😁😁😁! I’m so glad I didn’t miss this!!!

Fantastic! Great volume for a little bit of effort. Thanks for the bind off explanation, it helps a lot.
This is the most understandable video I found on UA-cam to do this pattern! Thank you
I agree I always use the long tail cast on. It is the neatest
Been knitting for years and never tried this, thanks kiddo!
Nice. I am going to practice this today while my son has his class and see if my hands find this as easy as it looks. Thank you for including the cast on and bind off. I would not have known to bind off like that.
I love your laughs in between the dialog. I do like this pattern very much, it looks nice and easy.
this is as close to magic as it gets! amazing and so easy ❤
Hello Double Knitting! Where have you been all my life? I thought it would be harder than that! Many thanks.
I don't knit often, but it is really nice to have this tutorial for a guide. Thanks so much!😃
This is a great stitch. Thank you for sharing it slowly and carefully and exactly. It is easy to master once you can actually see how it works. Years ago I made a scarf with this stitch and it has held up for 40 years. You are wonderful Fiber Spider!!🥳🥳🥳🥳
Awesome, I didn't knit anymore, but now I'm gonna give it a go again, thanks for the super explanation.
So glad to see a little knitting ! I plan to make a scarf using this ! Thanks!
I was so shocked when I saw the thumbnail, but remembered that you dabble in a little knitting at times. 🙂
I love this stitch. It's great for scarves. I've also made pillows with it. Separate the stitches so they're all on one needle (circular if you've got a lot of them), bind off, insert pillow form, seam opening (best to use kitchener or mattress)
What a great idea! I love it when people think outside of the box, or pillowcase, lol 😁🕷🕸🧶
You are a wonderful instructor, I enjoy all your tutorials.
This is a great stitch, and it doesn't curl. I was having trouble making the stitches come out right.Your explanation makes the pattern easy to do. Thank you so much.

Isn't this just the same as real stockinette? That will give you the bumpy back, no?
That sounds like either ribbing or moss stitch... How would that look like stocking stitch :-/
Thank you so much for this tutorial I've knitted for years and never understood how to do this you made it so simple to follow can't wait to try it now 🙌
Your videos are always the best. This particular one was exactly what I needed and you explain everything really well. Thank you

This would make awesome ear warmers.

Thank you so much for the tutorial.
Oh my goodness, this is AWESOME!! Thank you so much! It will be my go to also. (:
*Awesome 👊*
Great tutorial! Thank you!
Do not knit but going to try this yeat. Thank you:)
I love the stitch and how you TEACH us slowly explaining the whole time!! I love LOVE your needles!!! Can you tell me about them? I know you said their name, but I would like to see how to spell it!! Thanks!!
I have to get courage to try this. Takes time
first, Happy Birthday for the 19th, i loved this and hope to try it very soon.
Thank you! 😊
I love it....thank you!👍
Nice tutorial 👌 👍
Can you please do a demonstration of colour change with this stitch? I'm having a hard time🥲
I love it!! Thank you 💗
Nice job!!! Thank you
Thank you Guruji.
Made a scarf with this pattern! Thank you! Now I have a question - can you do a double knitted diagonal scarf pattern?
Coolio!!!!!👍
Craig, have you figured out a way to do this in the round?
It would make an easy thick ribbing for a hat
This stitch does not have a lot of stretch. Itbis a singl color "doubke knit". It is not a substitute for 1x1 ribbing. It is for less bulk "layering", perfect for tea cozy, hot water bottle cover, blanket etc.

하나 배워가요 좋아요!!
Thank you
During the rows you slipped one with yarn in front but I noticed you slipped off pearlwise but with yarn in back on the bindoff. Was that the change in the bindoff row?
Does anyone else hold the yarn in your left hand? Somehow I figured out how to hold it while doing this stitch but it took me a few moments!
Could this stitch be used for colourwork and if yes how? :)
Nice...
Is this also called brioche?
Do you have to add extra stitches to get your width while using this stitch ???
I would think it would be less width for the amount of stitches, just like with k1 p1 ribbing.
A swatch to see how much width a certain amount of stitches will give is surely needed.

How many skeins of the mandala will you use? I like a long scarf. Never tried this stitch before
