Sir you have saved me! I learned to both knit and crochet as a child but had to stop knitting around 10 years ago. I had an accident that resulted in permanent nerve damage in my left hand. I can still use it to tension on crochet but i can't knit anymore. Ive tried and tried but its not a pain issue i just lack the dexterity in my hand and wrist to effectively knit with 2 needles anymore. Ive just ordered some knooking needles. Cheap metal ones. My husband says if i enjoy it we can get a full set of wooden crochet hooks and he will put in the holes for me so i can have all the sizes. Just being able to do that traditional v shaped knit stitch with a hook will bring me so much joy! THANK YOU SO MUCH ❤

🤣 I'm very good with yarn but giving me a drill etc will result in hospital 🤣🤣 can't even put a nail in the wall without hammering myself 🙈 so borrowing a hubby might just work best, lol 🤣🎉
OMG HOW DID I NOT KNOW ABOUT THIS?! I've been knitting and crocheting for 30 years and thought I tried everything. lol. I had to give up knitting because I move my wrists too much with the 2 needles it got too painful. I tried Tunisian crochet but found it gave me similar issues to knitting. This knooking seems so much easier than tunisian because you don't keep everything on the hook and have more flexibility. I'm so excited to try this and be able to "knit" again! I just ordered some hook! :)
Yaaay, you will definitely love knooking. And yes, knooking is a lot easier, it really feels like regular crocheting but without "knotting" as you just put up loops. I get wrist pain with certain techniques as well and this is a great alternative! Have fun trying it 🤗
I tried to learn to knit so many times without success. When Leisure Arts brought out the knook several years ago, I tried it. It still took a little bit, but after a few months, I gave needle knitting another try, and I was good to go!

Absolutely agree, this will make sone things a lot easier and faster for crocheters. I will definitely incorporate knooking into some of my projects. Just like I already incorporate tunisian to make handles or straps for example 😉
I agree, tunisian is always a bit special with the return pass (my favorite part of Tunisian crochet). Knooking fits right in-between crochet and knitting. A perfect hybrid 🤗

Don't worry about the curl with the stocknette stitch, It's what the stich does. I crocheted with an ancient one of these growing up. No one in my family knew afghan stitch or knitting, but I made blankets and ponchoes galore with my favorite hook, until an aunt decided she needed it for rug hooking, then threw it and the rug away when she foung out there was work involved. (growling) I'm getting it, and its brothers, back. In colors!
I’m a knitter who hates working 4 needles in the round. Circular needles only go so far. I’m hoping this works in the round, if so, it could be the answer! The eye cord cast on is so wonderful, I may reconsider learning to crochet.
So true, I remember seeing someone knitting socks with 4 needles. That gave me anxiety 🙃 this would be so much easier with the helper yarn and just going around and around. I'm happy that you like the i-cord cast on. My favorite way to start a project. So much neater and straighter than any chain 🤗

I love tunisian crochet too. Very unique textures and patterns. However, this technique here is called knooking. It's like the sibling of tunisian and the child of crochet and knitting 🤣 we're all one big happy yarny family

Continental knitting is easier than English style. I didn't think I would ever get knitting because I couldn't learn mirror style like I did crochet. My grandma tried and tried to teach me to no avail. I finally was able to pick up on it a few years ago by watching Bill Souza Yarncrafts For Lefties channel as well as Fiber Spider... Fiber Spider is right handed but a really good teacher and I just watched him very intently. @@totally_fierceAlso, I'm old enough to be your mom... So don't count regular knitting out for good just yet

sorry, but just so you know, the second rib you showed isn't a rib stitch at all and isn't used as rib with regular knitting we'd always use the first version with the purls as this gives the stretchy finish. its actually tubular knitting or double knitting that you did which is a cool technique on its own, but you'll only have half the stitches on each side so you would need double the stitches to make it same width as your regular stockinette and double the rows to make the same height. you can do 2 or 4 rows of the slip stitch technique you showed before finishing with an Italian cast off or cast on to give you a beautiful rounded edge to your ribbing. great tutorial though :)

Du nimmst die Masche auf die Nadel und legst zugleich Dein working yarn über die Masche, statt es durchzuziehen. In der Rückreihe nimmst Du beides (Masche und Umschlag) auf und ziehst das working yarn durch, als wären die zwei zusammen eine rechte Masche (knit). Das braucht mehr Garn, wird aber dicker und elastischer als normale purl-1-knit-1-Rippen. Was Du gearbeitet hast, ergibt tatsächlich - wie oben erklärt - zwei Lagen. I live in Michigan in USA. I just found your channel and I’m excited. Sorry for the long post but any other knooking videos I have found are years old, it’s nice to find a new one. I want to see more projects 😊. I bought a kit thing that I found at my local Walmart maybe ten years ago at the most. It had two “Knook Hooks” made of bamboo and two silky cords. The little instruction book had the basic technique and I had fun finally learning how to knit. I could. Never get it, my stitches were always too tight with needles. Later I found a plastic set with about 10 different sizes with coordinating silky cords. I’ve only made mittens and a doll sweater so far but once you get the hang of it it’s cool. Supposedly you can basically follow any knitting pattern with a few tweaks. My instructions have you starting with simple chain so the first row is thin, I noticed your base row is thicker than mine. Doing ribbing is a hoot. I really have to look at the stitches to keep track of the knit and pearl stitches. Once I get a couple of rows it’s easier 😅. I do my pearl stitch differently than you. I hold my yarn tension the same as I crochet with my first finger pointing out to direct the thread and tension. When I crochet I hold my hook like a pencil but when I knook/knit I hold it like you do. When I do a knit stitch the yarn is off to the back like normal but when I do a pearl stitch I move the yarn to the front like regular knitting and make the stitch wrapping the yarn moving the hook toward me over the yarn then down with the hook part facing away then making the stitch just like you do the first stitch when you start your pearl row. I don’t twist the next stitch like you do but that is an interesting way to do it. I will try it, maybe it will make my ribbing tighter. The second way you showed how to do ribbing I think would confuse me but it looked interesting, I will try a sample. That technique probably won’t work when knooking in the round like I do making mittens. I haven’t used them in a few years so I’m relearning how. Decided to make another pair of mittens, easy practice. I knit my thumb flat and then crochet it down the side to make the tube and then I keep going in the round to make the rest of the mittens. I always end up with a couple of “vent holes” I call them at the thumb joint from increasing a stitch or two to get the count back up for the hand part but it might be just my pattern. Some patterns have you leave a hole then pick up stitches to make fingers. Tried that and it looked horrible 🤦♀️
Hi, thank you for your long message. I'm glad you already have some knooking experience and that you keep trying. I agree you can follow most knitting patterns with knooking. And most of the stitches are the same. For the purl stitches there are multiple ways to do them. The reason why I make them the way I showed it is to make sure that the back of those look as identical as possible to the knit stitches. Other purl stitches tend to look a bit off or irregular and definitely different than the typical V. Mine look like 95% the same. It's really more a visual thing. But you are right, the way I do them definitely helps with the tension. By twisting and pushing up you take the yarn up as well which results in a similar tension like the knit stitch. It's a bit hard to explain. But you can even see that yarn strand in front moving and "closing" the stitch. The first few are a bit tricky to make but once you know how to grab the loop and twist the yarn the auto pilot starts 🤣 anyway, thank you again and have fun trying it
This makes me think of how I do a long tail cast on to start some of my crochet projects. Made it SO much easier to get comfortable doing crochet again. I had only learned how to do a chain when I was little.
this is starting to feel like a loom meets, crochet meets, knitting all combined. --I'm not sure what it is/if it makes sense, but it looks like a little mini/hand-held loom when the tail-piece is underneath the needle I think you have given me something else to do now…or at least explore

This is fascinating. It is like an eccentric form of knitting. I think we'd describe the knit stitches as being worked "through the back loop". I've often wondered if knitting would be easier with one of the needles replaced by a crochet hook, especially in Continental knitting which certainly challenges my dexterity.
Thanks for this great introduction! I had seen videos of nooking before but never this clear and straightforward. I much prefer crochet over knitting, but do find knitted fabric to be much better for clothing. Love the idea of using this method! Already have some nooking needles in my shopping cart! Wonderful! I always struggle with crochet clothing because of the texture and thickness. With knooking clothes or wearable will feel like knitted. And yes, there will be tutorials about how to knook wearables in the future 🤗

Have tried to knit using several different styles. For some reason, it always is the purl that is the hardest, apparently here as well! Looks possibly useful enough to try, needles have been ordered.
Yaaay, you won't regret it. Yes, the purl stitches are a bit more tricky but having the hook is a huge help to pick the loops up. Then just twist the hook and yarn under and done! Once you've made a few you can almost do them with closed eyes. Have fun knooking 🎉
What you call “the regular knitting pattern” is known as stockinette stitch: Knit a row, Purl a row, knit a row, purl a row …. The edges of stockinette stitch always curl. That’s just life. If you want them to not curl, you can knit a few stitches at the beginning and end of each row. This will create a kind of knitted border that will lie flat. (I’m a knitter, can you tell? Haha!). I bought a Knook at a thrift shop a few months ago. I didn’t know what to do with it and I kind of forgot about it until I saw this video. This is brilliant! Looks like so much fun! I just grabbed my Knook hooks (this little set came with cables so I don’t even need to use yarn for the helper strand) and I’m going to give this a go. Thanks!

@ I live in the US. These were marked as Knooks here years and years ago. I think it was a trend for awhile and then it died out. I paid a dollar for my little kit, so it was a good investment! Hahaha!
Ingenious! I avoid knitting as I always drop stitches... this way you always have a "safety cord" to keep from doing that (unless you don't have enough length of helper yarn for the number of stitches)... I may try this on a kit I got to start knitting again (after I have a go with the knitting needles, and I get so frustrated with it I give up). Thank you for this tutorial!
there was a crochet tutorial about how to do a chainless foundation, foundationless chain(?)…whichever it was, and it was basically a long tail cast on with a twist, but there's a part that I was missing, but I just kept going, and ended up with all of my stitches on my crochet hook instead of the way, she showed it. thankfully, I found a better version of the long tail cast off for crochet and I absolutely love it.
Thank you. And yes, the helper yarn is exactly what it says: and awesome help. Keeps all the loops up. No worries about them falling off. You can make the helper yarn as long as you want to, depending on the project. Gave fun trying it out 🤗
@@douae5857 I literally just started back crocheting. I’ve only ever done chains when I was maybe 8. 🙈🙈😂😂 One of the reasons I was getting back into it. It’s because I have projects for my bearded dragon's viv and crocheting is a perfect way to get some of them done. I even twisted some regular bracelet hemp up & then did a long chain to add to his hammock. But I found, I believe three different videos that showed "chainless crochet foundation” One was absolutely awesome, one was good, but the better one was just more simple, but same idea. Then there was the one that was, not really sure how to explain it, but she was doing basically a long tail cast off. I undid my chain at least three or four times before I finally said “I’m just gonna keep going“ She ended up with the chain OFF of the crochet hook (NO clue how because I have no idea what I actually missed her doing) while I still had every single loop on my hook. I had gotten to the point of “let’s just see what happens“ & that's what happened. I just needed another needle. Needless to say I do not use that tutorial anymore. I still have absolutely no clue what I missed because I watched it so closely. but, I think I might just have to at least play with this a little bit.

I sure hope you do better than and overview because I've tried to learn how to knook, and I.... well, I've learned to knit Eastern/Eastern European/Russian style (sooo easy) before I could learn to knook, so there you have it. I thought knitting was the hardest most frustrating thing in the world until I found the easy way of doing it and I still found it easier than trying to learn knooking.
I couldn't agree more. Knitting is super hard for me too. Tried so many times and stopped completely frustrated. So yes, knooking is way easier to learn and less likely to fail. I'll definitely make more and create easy and beautiful projects with it 🤗

Hi, I will show increases and decreases soon. Works very similar to knitting or even crochet. DEC: take up 2 loops and just make the stitch through both INC: make the first stitch through the loop. Then make another stitch through either the left or right leg of the V where you place the first stitch

I’ve never heard of seen this before. Really interesting. The first rows you made are called garter stitch, the next lot are called stocking stitch and a true rib. You have definitely produced a knitted fabric on one needle. I going to use the icord technique for my knitting.

Increases and decreases are pretty easy (very similar to tunisian crochet): INC: Pull up a loop through the loop on the helper yarn twice (=2 new loops on the hook) DEC: pick up 2 loops from the helper yarn and make the stitch through both all together
This seems so much more complicated than knitting, but I would like to try it sometime to see. I wonder if there is an equivalent to help knitters like me crochet
Hi, when you have no issues with knitting then this is more like a fun alternative. For those who can't knit this is really a game changer because you have to feeling of crocheting and the result is knitting. Feel free to try it out. You might like it. And maybe that's also the bridge from knitting to crochet. Just like it is for us from crochet to knitting 😉
It seems a double ended crochet hook would work too(?). I’ve used the double ended hooks for Tunisian work as well. Pushing the yarn & turning the work seem to be similar in result. My one big challenge was keeping the yarn from the skeins from getting tangled. You are so skilled to have so many modalities on your finger tips! Thanks for introducing this yarny method.
Hi, it could work, but I would be afraid that the other end of the hook might get tangled up at some point. And you won't be able to make larger things with like 100 stitches in each row. The helper yarn can have any length. You just carry it along with the knooking hook 😉
I tried knooking for a bit and it was ok, but after learning to knit I simply couldn't think of any reason why I would choose knooking over knitting. The availability of sizes in knooking equipment is very limited compared to any other craft and in the end it is just knitting with extra steps. There was a short hype of knooking some years ago but I think that was because of one specific book that only addressed making hats and also not very delicate ones.
I know, when you know how to knit and have no issues knitting then this technique is not needed at all. But for everyone else who would love to make knitted fabrics but can't knit, this is a great way to do it 🤗

FYI. Your first set of stitches is called garter stitch, the second set is stockinette, and the third is ribbing. I am a many-years knitter but I will be digging out my knook hook and give it a try.

With a cable you could, although you would have to unlock the cable after each round and connecting the hook back again on the other side. I really with there would be a little ring or something that we could attach to our tunisian hooks so we could use them for knooking 🤗

My husband says if i enjoy it we can get a full set of wooden crochet hooks and he will put in the holes for me so i can have all the sizes. Just being able to do that traditional v shaped knit stitch with a hook will bring me so much joy! THANK YOU SO MUCH ❤

OMG HOW DID I NOT KNOW ABOUT THIS?! I've been knitting and crocheting for 30 years and thought I tried everything. lol. I had to give up knitting because I move my wrists too much with the 2 needles it got too painful. I tried Tunisian crochet but found it gave me similar issues to knitting. This knooking seems so much easier than tunisian because you don't keep everything on the hook and have more flexibility. I'm so excited to try this and be able to "knit" again! I just ordered some hook! :)
Yaaay, you will definitely love knooking. And yes, knooking is a lot easier, it really feels like regular crocheting but without "knotting" as you just put up loops. I get wrist pain with certain techniques as well and this is a great alternative! Have fun trying it 🤗

I tried to learn to knit so many times without success. When Leisure Arts brought out the knook several years ago, I tried it. It still took a little bit, but after a few months, I gave needle knitting another try, and I was good to go!

Don't worry about the curl with the stocknette stitch, It's what the stich does. I crocheted with an ancient one of these growing up. No one in my family knew afghan stitch or knitting, but I made blankets and ponchoes galore with my favorite hook, until an aunt decided she needed it for rug hooking, then threw it and the rug away when she foung out there was work involved. (growling) I'm getting it, and its brothers, back. In colors!

I’m a knitter who hates working 4 needles in the round. Circular needles only go so far. I’m hoping this works in the round, if so, it could be the answer! The eye cord cast on is so wonderful, I may reconsider learning to crochet.
You can do almost anything crocheting, you can work flat or circular with a large amount of stitches, it's funny and easier than knitting
So true, I remember seeing someone knitting socks with 4 needles. That gave me anxiety 🙃 this would be so much easier with the helper yarn and just going around and around.

Continental knitting is easier than English style. I didn't think I would ever get knitting because I couldn't learn mirror style like I did crochet. My grandma tried and tried to teach me to no avail. I finally was able to pick up on it a few years ago by watching Bill Souza Yarncrafts For Lefties channel as well as Fiber Spider... Fiber Spider is right handed but a really good teacher and I just watched him very intently. @@totally_fierceAlso, I'm old enough to be your mom... So don't count regular knitting out for good just yet

sorry, but just so you know, the second rib you showed isn't a rib stitch at all and isn't used as rib with regular knitting we'd always use the first version with the purls as this gives the stretchy finish.
its actually tubular knitting or double knitting that you did which is a cool technique on its own, but you'll only have half the stitches on each side so you would need double the stitches to make it same width as your regular stockinette and double the rows to make the same height. you can do 2 or 4 rows of the slip stitch technique you showed before finishing with an Italian cast off or cast on to give you a beautiful rounded edge to your ribbing.

Was Du vielleicht ähnliches gesehen hast, könnte Patent oder Halbpatent gewesen sein. Dabei wird die linke Masche (purl) mit einem Umschlag abgehoben. D. h. Du nimmst die Masche auf die Nadel und legst zugleich Dein working yarn über die Masche, statt es durchzuziehen. In der Rückreihe nimmst Du beides (Masche und Umschlag) auf und ziehst das working yarn durch, als wären die zwei zusammen eine rechte Masche (knit). Das braucht mehr Garn, wird aber dicker und elastischer als normale purl-1-knit-1-Rippen.
Was Du gearbeitet hast, ergibt tatsächlich - wie oben erklärt - zwei Lagen. Wenn Du die rechten Maschen in eine Richtung abkettest, statt sie zu stricken, kannst Du damit eine kleine Tasche öffnen (und musst in der nächsten Reihe neue Maschen aufnehmen, falls es doppelt weitergehen soll).
Außerdem: danke, dass Du mir knooking ein bisschen näher gebracht hast - ich habe bisher nicht recht verstanden, wozu es gut sein soll (und bin immernoch versucht, den Hilfsfaden als Verstärkung drin zu lassen). Eben habe ich eine vage Ahnung bekommen.

I live in Michigan in USA. I just found your channel and I’m excited. Sorry for the long post but any other knooking videos I have found are years old, it’s nice to find a new one. I want to see more projects 😊. I bought a kit thing that I found at my local Walmart maybe ten years ago at the most. It had two “Knook Hooks” made of bamboo and two silky cords. The little instruction book had the basic technique and I had fun finally learning how to knit. I could. Never get it, my stitches were always too tight with needles. Later I found a plastic set with about 10 different sizes with coordinating silky cords. I’ve only made mittens and a doll sweater so far but once you get the hang of it it’s cool. Supposedly you can basically follow any knitting pattern with a few tweaks.
My instructions have you starting with simple chain so the first row is thin, I noticed your base row is thicker than mine. Doing ribbing is a hoot. I really have to look at the stitches to keep track of the knit and pearl stitches. Once I get a couple of rows it’s easier 😅. I do my pearl stitch differently than you. I hold my yarn tension the same as I crochet with my first finger pointing out to direct the thread and tension. When I crochet I hold my hook like a pencil but when I knook/knit I hold it like you do. When I do a knit stitch the yarn is off to the back like normal but when I do a pearl stitch I move the yarn to the front like regular knitting and make the stitch wrapping the yarn moving the hook toward me over the yarn then down with the hook part facing away then making the stitch just like you do the first stitch when you start your pearl row. I don’t twist the next stitch like you do but that is an interesting way to do it. I will try it, maybe it will make my ribbing tighter. The second way you showed how to do ribbing I think would confuse me but it looked interesting, I will try a sample. That technique probably won’t work when knooking in the round like I do making mittens.
I haven’t used them in a few years so I’m relearning how. Decided to make another pair of mittens, easy practice. I knit my thumb flat and then crochet it down the side to make the tube and then I keep going in the round to make the rest of the mittens. I always end up with a couple of “vent holes” I call them at the thumb joint from increasing a stitch or two to get the count back up for the hand part but it might be just my pattern. Some patterns have you leave a hole then pick up stitches to make fingers. Tried that and it looked horrible 🤦♀️
Hi, thank you for your long message. I'm glad you already have some knooking experience and that you keep trying.
I agree you can follow most knitting patterns with knooking. And most of the stitches are the same. For the purl stitches there are multiple ways to do them. The reason why I make them the way I showed it is to make sure that the back of those look as identical as possible to the knit stitches. Other purl stitches tend to look a bit off or irregular and definitely different than the typical V. Mine look like 95% the same. It's really more a visual thing. But you are right, the way I do them definitely helps with the tension. By twisting and pushing up you take the yarn up as well which results in a similar tension like the knit stitch. It's a bit hard to explain. But you can even see that yarn strand in front moving and "closing" the stitch. The first few are a bit tricky to make but once you know how to grab the loop and twist the yarn the auto pilot starts 🤣 anyway, thank you again and have fun trying it

This is fascinating. It is like an eccentric form of knitting. I think we'd describe the knit stitches as being worked "through the back loop". I've often wondered if knitting would be easier with one of the needles replaced by a crochet hook, especially in Continental knitting which certainly challenges my dexterity.

Have tried to knit using several different styles. For some reason, it always is the purl that is the hardest, apparently here as well! Looks possibly useful enough to try, needles have been ordered.
Yaaay, you won't regret it. Yes, the purl stitches are a bit more tricky but having the hook is a huge help to pick the loops up. Then just twist the hook and yarn under and done! Once you've made a few you can almost do them with closed eyes. Have fun knooking 🎉

Right? Quite simple really with just a hole for the helper yarn 🤗
What you call “the regular knitting pattern” is known as stockinette stitch: Knit a row, Purl a row, knit a row, purl a row …. The edges of stockinette stitch always curl. That’s just life. If you want them to not curl, you can knit a few stitches at the beginning and end of each row. This will create a kind of knitted border that will lie flat. (I’m a knitter, can you tell? Haha!). I bought a Knook at a thrift shop a few months ago. I didn’t know what to do with it and I kind of forgot about it until I saw this video. This is brilliant! Looks like so much fun! I just grabbed my Knook hooks (this little set came with cables so I don’t even need to use yarn for the helper strand) and I’m going to give this a go. Thanks!

@ I live in the US. These were marked as Knooks here years and years ago. I think it was a trend for awhile and then it died out. I paid a dollar for my little kit, so it was a good investment! Hahaha!

Ingenious! I avoid knitting as I always drop stitches... this way you always have a "safety cord" to keep from doing that (unless you don't have enough length of helper yarn for the number of stitches)... I may try this on a kit I got to start knitting again (after I have a go with the knitting needles, and I get so frustrated with it I give up). Thank you for this tutorial!
there was a crochet tutorial about how to do a chainless foundation, foundationless chain(?)…whichever it was, and it was basically a long tail cast on with a twist, but there's a part that I was missing, but I just kept going, and ended up with all of my stitches on my crochet hook instead of the way, she showed it. thankfully, I found a better version of the long tail cast off for crochet and I absolutely love it.
Thank you. And yes, the helper yarn is exactly what it says: and awesome help. Keeps all the loops up. No worries about them falling off. You can make the helper yarn as long as you want to, depending on the project. Gave fun trying it out 🤗
Look into how to do a lifeline for knitting! If you use circular needles, it's so easy.

One of the reasons I was getting back into it. It’s because I have projects for my bearded dragon's viv and crocheting is a perfect way to get some of them done. I even twisted some regular bracelet hemp up & then did a long chain to add to his hammock.
But I found, I believe three different videos that showed "chainless crochet foundation”
One was absolutely awesome, one was good, but the better one was just more simple, but same idea. Then there was the one that was, not really sure how to explain it, but she was doing basically a long tail cast off.
I undid my chain at least three or four times before I finally said “I’m just gonna keep going“
She ended up with the chain OFF of the crochet hook (NO clue how because I have no idea what I actually missed her doing) while I still had every single loop on my hook. I had gotten to the point of “let’s just see what happens“ & that's what happened. I just needed another needle. Needless to say I do not use that tutorial anymore.
I still have absolutely no clue what I missed because I watched it so closely.
but, I think I might just have to at least play with this a little bit.

I sure hope you do better than and overview because I've tried to learn how to knook, and I.... well, I've learned to knit Eastern/Eastern European/Russian style (sooo easy) before I could learn to knook, so there you have it. I thought knitting was the hardest most frustrating thing in the world until I found the easy way of doing it and I still found it easier than trying to learn knooking.
I couldn't agree more. Knitting is super hard for me too. Tried so many times and stopped completely frustrated. So yes, knooking is way easier to learn and less likely to fail. I'll definitely make more and create easy and beautiful projects with it 🤗

Hi, I will show increases and decreases soon. Works very similar to knitting or even crochet.
DEC: take up 2 loops and just make the stitch through both
INC: make the first stitch through the loop. Then make another stitch through either the left or right leg of the V where you place the first stitch

I’ve never heard of seen this before. Really interesting. The first rows you made are called garter stitch, the next lot are called stocking stitch and a true rib. You have definitely produced a knitted fabric on one needle. I going to use the icord technique for my knitting.

Yaaay, I'm sure you'll love it. Knooking really feels like crocheting, but much faster, just adding loops and no "knots", and the result is knitting basically. A real hybrid 🎉 have fun trying it

Hi, thank you. I will make a little series about it and a few full tutorials. Increases and decreases are pretty easy (very similar to tunisian crochet):
INC: Pull up a loop through the loop on the helper yarn twice (=2 new loops on the hook)
DEC: pick up 2 loops from the helper yarn and make the stitch through both all together

Hi, when you have no issues with knitting then this is more like a fun alternative. For those who can't knit this is really a game changer because you have to feeling of crocheting and the result is knitting. Feel free to try it out. You might like it. And maybe that's also the bridge from knitting to crochet. Just like it is for us from crochet to knitting 😉

It seems a double ended crochet hook would work too(?). I’ve used the double ended hooks for Tunisian work as well. Pushing the yarn & turning the work seem to be similar in result. My one big challenge was keeping the yarn from the skeins from getting tangled. You are so skilled to have so many modalities on your finger tips! Thanks for introducing this yarny method.
Hi, it could work, but I would be afraid that the other end of the hook might get tangled up at some point. And you won't be able to make larger things with like 100 stitches in each row. The helper yarn can have any length. You just carry it along with the knooking hook 😉

I tried knooking for a bit and it was ok, but after learning to knit I simply couldn't think of any reason why I would choose knooking over knitting.
The availability of sizes in knooking equipment is very limited compared to any other craft and in the end it is just knitting with extra steps.
There was a short hype of knooking some years ago but I think that was because of one specific book that only addressed making hats and also not very delicate ones.
I know, when you know how to knit and have no issues knitting then this technique is not needed at all. But for everyone else who would love to make knitted fabrics but can't knit, this is a great way to do it 🤗

FYI. Your first set of stitches is called garter stitch, the second set is stockinette, and the third is ribbing. I am a many-years knitter but I will be digging out my knook hook and give it a try.

If you do a plain stitch at the beginning and end of each purl row the edge won't curl so much.

Would it be possible to do this with tunisian crochet hooks too?
With a cable you could, although you would have to unlock the cable after each round and connecting the hook back again on the other side. I really with there would be a little ring or something that we could attach to our tunisian hooks so we could use them for knooking 🤗

This to me is just like Tunisian crochet
In knitting terms: First technique is called the garter stitch. Second is called stockinette. Third technique is called double knitting.
