The aria So du willst - recorded here for All of Bach with Jos van Veldhoven - comes from the very beginning of Bach’s career, during his time as organist in Mühlhausen. A cantata and aria where it is clear right from the start that this is not just about slight misfortune, but deep misery. The bass portrays the ambivalence of the believer: existential doubt versus certainty of faith.

All of Bach is a project of the Netherlands Bach Society, with the aim to perform and record all of Bach's works and share them online with the world for free. This is the best musicalization of the De Profundis Psalm (130) in the History of music.
I agree with you. I love this cantata and I have already sung it
The sound engineers have done an amazing job! The balance between each singer and the singers to the instrumentalists is phenomenal!
I love this whole cantata, but I particularly love this movement. The intertwining of the main melody and the chorale is stunningly beautiful.
Bach is the most important composer of the Baroque period.
Most important composer of all time, honestly.
@@Valreea Yes, Bach has taken almost all of the most beautiful and largest gems in music history, and those who followed could only search for smaller, flawed stones.
I don’t know why I am tearing up.I’ve got emotional, but in a good way.🤍
Thanks again. I was thinking this week I will not enjoy another Bach from NBS but suddenly you delighted me
In my opinion, the Baroque period is the greatest era in the history of music.
Bach was the greatest composer from this era, but, Bach aside, I prefer Renaissance music, at least when it comes to sacred music : Ockeghem, La Rue, Josquin, Manchicourt, Brumel, Gombert, Sheppard, Tallis, Byrd, Guerrero, Morales, Victoria…
Soberbo!
Magnifique comme toutes les cantates du Cantor
Exquisite. This is my favorite bass aria.
Thank you!
Bach. That's all.
Thanks NBS 🤗

„willt“, nicht „willst“! ☝
'Du willst' is modern German spelling, while 'Du willt' is old spelling. Admittedly, Tobias Berndt does use the old spelling here, but since we can't change the title within the video, we will keep it this way.
@@bach , ok.
