Another superb performance. This cantata is particularly brilliant for a number of reasons, first being the incredible text painting, especially in the opening chorus. And second, the foreshadowing of material that would soon appear in the St John Passion, sounds that seem to have been isolated in that era but poke their heads out every now and then. Stunning.
@@ericlapaglia5307 Yes! In fact, Bach adapted that opening chorus into the "Qui tollis" in the Mass in B minor. Most of the music in that Mass (and in his other Masses as well) is adapted by Bach from earlier pieces of his.
Bach ti trasporta in una dimensione ultraterrena! Nessun altro Compositore ci riesce come lui.
wow wow wow (as usual) great to see Tobias Berndt again and Guy Cutting excellent as always and Franz Vitzthum (unfamiliar to me) impressive as alto and so many familiar faces of wonderful instrumentalists
Perhaps one of the most unsettling pieces from Bach that I´ve ever listened to. Full of richness and sorrow. Bach never failed to amaze us by his capacity of convening different feelings.
A fantastic performance as always. The aria *Doch Jesus will auch bei der Strafe* also is particularly great here. Bach excels at writing for the recorder, and this is a great example of him using the recorder in an extremely compelling way when combined with the vocal solo. An absolute treat!
How wonderfull these video's are accompanied with Dutch and English subtitles. I did post some translated texts, but then I realized there were subtitles. It's wonderfull and so much more meaningfull when people are able to read the text while hearing the music.
Yes, it is a superb performance. The excellent version of this cantata by the JSB Stiftung on UA-cam does feature a bassoon. Not sure if my ear is sensitive enough to hear much difference.
Sorry, but I personally don’t enjoy listening to a contra soprano! I strongly feel that a woman should be singing this…not a man! And I am disappointed that the dress code for this concert is SO casual! Classical concerts should be more elegantly dressed! Just saying…
I love a good alto, but Herr Bach was writing for and expecting a counter-tenor, so if you’re going with the whole period-instrument thing, it has to be a man.
Unfortunately this video is damaged, high notes are so loud to break the ears and low ones are so low, basicly mute. Be careful, hackers and haters never sleep using technologies for murdering people with sonic bombs online, do not let them do it guys😢😢😢do not allow good music to be used as torture tool and make your audience get brain damages because it's...Bach
A rubbish libretto, full of a judgemental tyrant ruling through fear. But some of Bach's best music is here, especially the opening chorus and closing chorale.
Interesting, I read the bible twice. What I found was a gracious, loving, longsuffering God who thinks that each and everyone of us is more valuable than the entire universe. But the very moment he legitimately judges evil, guys like you come along to call him a "judgmental tyrant"... You're free to reject him, but please don't lie about him and his motives.

It is a blessing to be able to listen to music like this on UA-cam.
... and played SO well!

no other composer makes me feel the way Bach does :,)
Agree, and nice sign, this :,) Old school.
As in everything by Bach, the emotional power and resonance is overwhelming.
All of you are so beautiful and valuable ..Highly disciplined mathematical perfectness..Many thanx/Ankara
How wonderful to find this most recent release! I look forward to each of them and enjoy so much your wonderful musicianship. Thank you.

The text is the mind and the music is the spirit
Treffende observatie!
That opening chorus sounds like the qui tollis peccata mundi from the mass in b minor.

Thanks for all you contribute to music
This is great as always
Thanks again
I'm always surprised of the amazing quality of Your interpretations!
I am always surprised how one can make such wonderful recordings under such acoustically difficult conditions!
Complex, sorrowful, and enigmatic.

10:42 holding that run in just a single breath... Incredible!
I was just thinking the same, when is he going to breathe?!
¡Que precioso! Muchísimas gracias NBS por este tremendo regalo.🤗
Opening chorus is so amazing! And the recorders so evocative
wow wow wow (as usual)

Rest in peace Herr Bach wherever you are ❤
We all know where J. S. B is. Just look up.

Yes, wonderful recorders in this.

Sehr schön, danke fürs hochladen ❤❤❤
Extraordinary 🎵 WOW
Que hermoso ❤
I am so enjoying the vibe of these recordings with everyone wearing street clothes instead of the normal concert black. It's refreshing.
Those tenors, my goodness!!!!!!!!! Great group!
BEAUTIFUL!
One of the most touching cantatas. :,)
_"Schauet doch und sehet"_ in the beginning surely prefigures the _"Qui tollis peccata mundi"_ of the b-minor mass.
Amazing and stunning❤
Your audio game is up and doing superb justice to the performances. A pleasure to listen to! 👏
This performance reaches new level of excellence on this channel. Very good recording of complex work. Pleasure to listen.
Lovely performance!
Love it
Kedves Bernadett! Gratulálok!
About the winds: just otherworldly 🥰
Ha sido un gran placer!
So good. The only thing that could make this better is a bassoon in the continuo.

danke❤👏😁
The amount of reverence present in the beginning of these hymns is beyond description.

7:56 didnt know Luke Rockhold sings so well
I love how the musicians and singers dress in ordinary clothes, not tuxes and gowns.
Help please? I could not find any information on the Grote Kerk organ. If anybody has information, please point me in the right direction.
Thanks!
Dutch, what have you done to this beautiful Church?! You've relegated it to some insignificant art room. Without content, without soul, without God!
This is what dutch protestant churches have looked like for 400 years. Look at Saenredam paintings.
Another divine performance! Can we please do without the subtitles? Pretty please?
you can turn them off :)
Very nice, but lets hear it again without the warbling.
Cellist is playing a different cello

You should see how dutch politicians dress, with their hands in their pockets, to adress the politburo!
I love a good alto, but Herr Bach was writing for and expecting a counter-tenor, so if you’re going with the whole period-instrument thing, it has to be a man.
this is not a concert, but a recording... there is no other people as audience!
