Man thats so smart with the Wi-Fi Antenna, that should be on more monitors. Whoever made that an idea obviously really uses their computer and cares about making the desk setup clean.
@humanmammal5897 Motherboards that support WiFi has these antennas you have to connect at the back of them often times with a cable so you have yo put them on your desk. But with this monitor you don't need thos antennas and you can just connect them at the back of the monitor and make your desk clean

@humanmammal5897 Antennas all use coax cables they have nothing to do with the technology being used nor the speed. the motherboard needs a signal booster for WiFi and the antenna inside the monitor helps achieving that

I got a Philips Evnia 27M2N5500 for £143 last month and it only just came out. 1440p, 180Hz IPS. It's been fantastic, really happy with it for the price.
My brother recently bought a Philips Evnia 24" 165hz 1080p IPS monitor as well. It was the cheapest high refresh rate 1080p IPS monitor available. And it is great. It is called 24M1N3200ZS.

There are lots of 1440p monitors going for around $160 - $180 these days, and most of them seem to use this same panel since they all have the same specs. It's a great time to buy a 1440p LCD. The Dell G2724D might be a better option overall despite the lower refresh rate since it has better response times (according to other reviewers) and it also seems to have a really good sRGB mode.
Have kept wondering about these Asrock monitors. Finally glad to not only see it here, but to be of higher quality than I thought based solely on its price!

When step 1 is "spend $2000 on a Calman license," it becomes obvious why this is a really niche guide he hasn't bothered to make yet. And unfortunately the home licenses only work on a small subset of televisions (not monitors).
@@konga382 I understand, if Tim says "Sorry, no plans", it is all good, but there seem to be no resources on calibrating or even at least checking the capabilities of any non-professional monitor for especially HDR (but SDR as well) using Calman or any other HDR calibration capable software (HDR calibration using DisplayCal seems almost impossible). While I get such video might not make the most sense from the ROI POV (fewer views), Tim seems to love monitors and making this Calman deep dive might give him a break from his monitor after monitor review cycle (which I am glad for, but I imagine can feel a little monotonous from time to time). I also agree the price is discouraging, but there are also.. other ways 🦜
I just got a couple of Dell G2724D monitors for $180 on sale from $200. It's 1440p at 165hz. I mainly got it because it actually works with the PS5. Supports 1440p, 120hz AND VRR on PS5 due to VESA Adaptive Sync certification.
Got myself the same monitor a month ago as well, upgrading from a 10 year old 1080p 60fps monitor never felt so great! Love it to bits, also a size upgrade from 21.5" to 27" as well
@@shadow_force oh, if only it were that simple. just like how not all HDMI 2.1 displays support all the features of the 2.1 spec, not all HDMI 2.1 displays have the specific version of VRR that PS5 uses. the G2724D does, which is why I chose it over the competition (also with HDMI 2.1).

@@AEWD56 nope, the monitor is 2.1. And it's absolutely wrong to say that "all" HDMI 2.1 displays support HDMI forum VRR. While they might be capable of it, it's not a given that a display that has a 2.1 port will support that particular feature.
Though a 165 Hz display, I think the $180 (with Amazon coupon) KTC H27T22 is a better option. The stand is less "gamer" looking and has a full range of adjustment. It also offers far more customization in the OSD, which is navigable through a directional toggle.
As European I guess these "jaw dropping" prices are all VAT excluded? We got this monitor here for 235€ and up (VAT included).... so roughly $260. Not THAT exciting.
been wondering about this as well. For instance I am from Sweden, and I was looking at the AOC Q27G3XMN, which is a "$280" monitor and that sounds like an incredible price. But it costs around 5000 SEK, which is $480, with 25% VAT included. However, if you remove VAT, this only goes down to $380. So yeah, the pricing is clearly incredibly region based, so I just try to look at what is cheap and look at reviews like these and go "okay its cheap but does it suck" :)
In any case, the European market is ABSOLUTELY NOT the same as the American market when it comes to tech. Literally over there they have discount codes on every tech item depending on the state they live in; like the latest LG 4k 240Hz here is 1300 euros, in the US those living in Boston could get it for 900$ ( I'm quoting Boston but in many other states you had 10 or 15% off all LG products ). In short, it's clear that here in Europe we don't have the same prices at all.
@AD-sg9tr Just as long as you remember in Boston a product advertised for $900 will cost you $956.34 once you add in sales tax. And that tax can vary by state, county and city. Europeans tend to compare their post tax prices to our pre tax prices.
The problem with high end IPS or mini-led is that they are so expensive you might as well get an OLED at this point… OLEDs will retain their value better and for HDR it’s way better than anything else
@@jonathansaindon788 I'm going to disagree entirely about OLED holding thir value. A burned in monitor has no value. When I buy a monitor, I expect to keep it for at least 5 years. I use it for work all day as well as play. I won't buy an OLED at all due to the likelihood of burn in during that timeframe.
@@TheTonVeronThat’s the exact reason I won’t consider one. I’m probably around 70/30 in terms of office/gaming usage and the negatives currently outweigh the positives for a primary office monitor. Text clarity is worse and the risk of burn in on a £1000 monitor is not worth it imo.

@@n0.nam358 MSI E2 then, it might be a different/worse panel but it's really close and the color accuracy is good albeit a little saturated but easily dialed back to normal. Great monitor, my mate has one. I think color accuracy is better than the AW3423DW, that's what he said anyway. I had a DW too, not too hard to beat though but you'd probably not care that much.

It seems like the OFF for overdrive should be the low option, and a more aggressive overdrive get used for the ON position, or high. If only one option is able to be used, it may not be a great idea for them to go too much more aggressive, because I think the people going for a $185 1440p screen, won't be pushing the upper refresh rates in many games, so it's better that it looks good in the lower refresh ranges.
Would have been a great deal for me.. But for me, I would prefer very color accurate monitor at this point... The Asrock is tempting, but then again, it's best to work logically here in terms of use case.
First time i seen a QHD 180HZ IPS monitor with HDR certification that goes "beyond" the certified standard of Vesa HDR while costing below 200 USD , amazing, if it wasn't that i already have an 240hz QHD monitor , i already just bought this one instead

@@evila9076 I agree with you, but it doesn't make it any better. 16:10 is better for work and multitasking, 21:9 is better for movies and TV series, and 4:3 is better for competitive gaming. 16:9 ratio is not an all-rounder; it's a forced standard, but it is worse than screen ratios mentioned above if you compare them in named tasks .
I wouldn't even bother with "entry-level" these days. On a mature technology like IPS i expect a monitor to "do it all". I don't want to have high refresh rates and low response times at the cost of high color accuracy, or vice versa.
Can't find it for 179.99, but did find it is 199.99 on Dell's Website (as of 20AUG2024). It's not available on Amazon and Walmart has it listed at 362.99.
Meanwhile in my country converted price is 437 USD. Idk where you find prices at sub 200 USD , perhaps I should migrate to a low cost industry country.
The AOC Gaming Q27G4X has the same specs, it's 1440p, 180hz, gsync and freesync. Same button layout too but worse settings on the Asrock than the AOC. So I wonder if they're the same panel just with less options here? In any case it [ACO] is a whopping £40 cheaper than this Asrock monitor at £175 vs £220 for the Asrock. Recently got the AOC for a kids system, it's a really good monitor for the cost.
Please review the [insert brand] 27-1440-IPS-240 or the [insert brand] 32-4K-VA-60. No such monitors exist, but imagine a world in which monitor names actually reflect their key specs and nothing more.
The PG27QFT2A stands for Phantom gaming 27 inch QHD Flat panel model 2A not to be confused with the model 1B which I think is the same but with less features like a cheaper stand with no WiFi antenna
I was just about to buy this monitor, but now DELL went for a massive price cut for the AW2724DM (not to be confused with the Dell 2724D). Now I wonder. What´s the better choice? The AsRock PG27QFT2A for 180 USD or the AW2724DM for 290 USD (which was 380 USD before) ??
No directional f-u toggle is a plus. I like discrete buttons so you get the action you wanted, not have to rely on the stupid joystick deciding you've clicked in or down instead of right or left.
What? cant you use a joystick? You know you dont have to click on it right? you just slide it up, down, left or right. Literally completely different action vectors
@@pedro.alcatra And every damn monitor using one I've used has such poor construction even pulling down carefully and in as straight a line as possible has at least one in four chance of clicking in or left or right. It's a stupid design over discrete buttons and takes more housing space just to cut corners on the cost. There is a reason these went away on most Smart tv's over a decade ago. And I've been using joysticks longer than you've been alive. These things are like cheap chicklet keyboards and less reliable.

@@stiegelzeine2186 Nope. Just not used a single joystick monitor that worked as well as most multi-button monitors do. I've even seen them where you move the joystick differently for the same on-screen motion depending on menu. Most common is going up/down in the list means left right on the stick. where clicking in means cancel in some menus and accept in others. It's a ui mess and they all have their own way to do it. With buttons you usually have a power button and enter, a +, a -, and a back. simple.
Who have ips TN OR Va really needs to try Oled.... i had those monitors now i have oled never go back.. Graphic Quality hours of gaming no vision problems, and ghosting 0 and overshoots.

Is there any benefit to having a slower pixel response time at the low refresh rates? Sort of like how game devs enable motion blur to hide how un-smooth motion is, if pixels move slowly into their new positions it's effectively motion blur that disproportionately blurs fast-moving scenes or objects. Is there room for this to be subjectively preferred? Or is a very fast panel snapping to the new frame visuals instantly still preferable at say 60FPS? Thanks for the video, I'm highly considering picking one of these up, or any of your other recommended more expensive ones if they go on sale around this price.
I was using the Asus PG279Q (the successor to yours I guess?) up until very recently and upgraded to the Gigabyte M27Q-X for higher refresh, and honestly it wasn't worth it aside from slightly better colors on the new monitor. I've got them side by side and they feel pretty much identical. I think those of us using older high-end (IPS) monitors are better off just going straight to OLED or simply sticking with what we have. There haven't really been many improvements to LCDs during all these years aside from higher refresh-rate. They are just cheaper now and that's about it.
@@Obscure19 Yes, I came to exact same thoughts you say here. Apart from higher refresh rates it seemed image quality has not improved much, and we need to wait for OLED. Now 480hz OLED in this size/qhd is coming later this year so that's a good point to upgrade.

Why can't mini led take off? It's more expensive for array section lighting but those fixed side/horizontally mounted led are just e-waste when the other layers of thr panels are just fine.
Can you review the samsung odyssey G6? The VA panel not the OLED one. Its cheaper than the G7 but has better brightness, smart features and better response time

In EU this thing costs 10% more than the LG 27GP850, which has the same basic parameters, but performs way better and has a lot more extras.

Man it's sad I can't find this at the great price your review was based on, on the upside there are enough great monitors and new ones coming out all the time that I feel the sale prices and used market are super strong right now, so it's not impossible to find a good one. But man, I might've gotten this one if the price was right.

@@evila9076 I agree with you, but it doesn't make it any better. 16:10 is better for work and multitasking, 21:9 is better for movies and TV series, and 4:3 is better for competitive gaming. 16:9 ratio is not an all-rounder; it's a forced standard, but it is worse than screen ratios mentioned above if you compare them in named tasks .
I wouldn't even bother with "entry-level" these days.
On a mature technology like IPS i expect a monitor to "do it all". I don't want to have high refresh rates and low response times at the cost of high color accuracy, or vice versa.

The AOC Gaming Q27G4X has the same specs, it's 1440p, 180hz, gsync and freesync. Same button layout too but worse settings on the Asrock than the AOC. So I wonder if they're the same panel just with less options here? In any case it [ACO] is a whopping £40 cheaper than this Asrock monitor at £175 vs £220 for the Asrock. Recently got the AOC for a kids system, it's a really good monitor for the cost.

The PG27QFT2A stands for Phantom gaming 27 inch QHD Flat panel model 2A not to be confused with the model 1B which I think is the same but with less features like a cheaper stand with no WiFi antenna

No directional f-u toggle is a plus. I like discrete buttons so you get the action you wanted, not have to rely on the stupid joystick deciding you've clicked in or down instead of right or left.
What? cant you use a joystick? You know you dont have to click on it right? you just slide it up, down, left or right. Literally completely different action vectors
@@pedro.alcatra And every damn monitor using one I've used has such poor construction even pulling down carefully and in as straight a line as possible has at least one in four chance of clicking in or left or right. It's a stupid design over discrete buttons and takes more housing space just to cut corners on the cost.
There is a reason these went away on most Smart tv's over a decade ago.
And I've been using joysticks longer than you've been alive. These things are like cheap chicklet keyboards and less reliable.
@@kaseyboles30 I literally use one of the cheapest Samsung monitor that costed roughly 100 euro a few years ago and it has 0 problems with the joystick, maybe you just bought bullshit monitors or maybe you treated them so harsh that they broke
@@stiegelzeine2186 Nope. Just not used a single joystick monitor that worked as well as most multi-button monitors do. I've even seen them where you move the joystick differently for the same on-screen motion depending on menu. Most common is going up/down in the list means left right on the stick. where clicking in means cancel in some menus and accept in others. It's a ui mess and they all have their own way to do it. With buttons you usually have a power button and enter, a +, a -, and a back. simple.
Who have ips TN OR Va really needs to try Oled.... i had those monitors now i have oled never go back.. Graphic Quality hours of gaming no vision problems, and ghosting 0 and overshoots.

Here in Germany it's a little bit more expensive than a AOC Q27G4X, which I would currently prefer.

Is there any benefit to having a slower pixel response time at the low refresh rates? Sort of like how game devs enable motion blur to hide how un-smooth motion is, if pixels move slowly into their new positions it's effectively motion blur that disproportionately blurs fast-moving scenes or objects. Is there room for this to be subjectively preferred? Or is a very fast panel snapping to the new frame visuals instantly still preferable at say 60FPS? Thanks for the video, I'm highly considering picking one of these up, or any of your other recommended more expensive ones if they go on sale around this price.
I’m still running the world’s first G-Sync 144hz monitor, Asus PG278Q from 2014. Time to upgrade? Would this actually be better?
I was using the Asus PG279Q (the successor to yours I guess?) up until very recently and upgraded to the Gigabyte M27Q-X for higher refresh, and honestly it wasn't worth it aside from slightly better colors on the new monitor. I've got them side by side and they feel pretty much identical.
I think those of us using older high-end (IPS) monitors are better off just going straight to OLED or simply sticking with what we have. There haven't really been many improvements to LCDs during all these years aside from higher refresh-rate. They are just cheaper now and that's about it.
@@Obscure19 Yes, I came to exact same thoughts you say here. Apart from higher refresh rates it seemed image quality has not improved much, and we need to wait for OLED. Now 480hz OLED in this size/qhd is coming later this year so that's a good point to upgrade.
Except you're wrong, the cheapest 27" 1440p over 100Hz IPS monitors are from Xiaomi, you should test some of those.

Why can't mini led take off? It's more expensive for array section lighting but those fixed side/horizontally mounted led are just e-waste when the other layers of thr panels are just fine.
