My experience with New Horizons is that I get absolutely obsessed with it for a few weeks to a month (to the point where it’s the only thing I want to play) and then I barely want to play it at all for the next few months. I’m currently at the stage where I’m not playing, in that time I have become obsessed with other games such as Mario Odyssey and Luigi’s Mansion 3
Edit: Detroit: Become Human is now my current obsession-

I’ve been feeling slightly burnt out on new horizons but I’ve been trying to complete all my nook mile achievements! I definitely want to get all of them! I’ve also been working to get the golden shovel, which is the last golden tool I need, and I’ve been redecorating my island monthly or seasonally for holidays! Those are some suggestions I have for players who are feeling burnt out!

I have a completely random idea that I came up with that would work perfectly for anyone who both loves stardew and animal crossing and is incredibly burnt out: it is called the Animal Crossing Stardew Valley Challenge.
    The rules are as follows:
( if you reset your island you're allowed to sell fruits and fish until you can afford crops, after you can afford crops bells can be entirely made off of crops)
    1. Bells must be entirely made off of crops
    2. You must fully pay off your debt and upgrade your house
    3. Your house must be entirely renovated and decorated
    4. You must completely fill out the museum
    5. Your starter villager should be either a cat or dog ( one of your first 3 starter villagers)
    6. Meet the final friendship level with at least one of your villagers and get their photo
    7. You should have at least one horse villager, 2 chicken villagers, 1 duck, 1 rabbit, 2 cows, 1 goat, 1 sheep and 1 pig.
I thought this could be an interesting challenge and it could give you an end goal and perhaps make the fun game again!

"Without goals, your motivation and purpose disappear" - not only true for playing video games, but anything you do. Life is seemingly endless at times and so open-ended. Without creating goals for yourself and only going through the same motions day after day, it's easy to see how burnout is so inevitable. Not to take something so deep and personal from what's only an ACNH video, but your advice at the end really resonated with me. 😅

  • @GTAFan-kf9me

Take it from me as someone who has spent like over 4,000 hours on this game. Do not force yourself to play it just because you have to. Like others have said, learn to know when to take a break when you feel like you're overplaying this game so much. I used to do that last year and it really affected my mental health. Since I have a 2nd switch I can always restart and pick out whatever map layout I want. I am not sure if you are thinking of restarting but if you do, you still have all the skills learned from when you first started out playing the game and you start to do things differently that you would not even think of doing the first time.
I would just take a step at a time. There is no need to rush through stuff quickly. Animal Crossing is a game that is meant to be a chill experience and it was not meant to be like some sort of design completion, since I've seen people compare their islands so often and they always get depressed whenever their island is not good enough. You make whatever stands out to you and don't let anyone tell you otherwise. Play how you see fit and if you find yourself getting bored with the game again, then take a break or play other games. Thats what I do whenever I feel burned out with New Horizons.

  • @zmbiey

what really helps me everytime is resetting. i know you become attached to your island, and it's the last thing you'd wanna do, but honestly it's just the best thing to do when there's really *nothing* else to do in the game.. now you have a whole new map, whole new villagers to hunt for, trading for your favourite furniture again, earning bells, decorating, etc.
before that though, my current goals for my island is getting my favourite villagers photos, completing my encyclopaedia, fully decorate my island, and try complete as many nook goals as i can, it looks like burnout for acnh is a lot more common than previous games tbh, i really do wish our villagers had more dialogue. i hate having 2 favourite villagers of the same personality and they both repeat and swap eachothers dialogue. acnh is a beautiful game dont get me wrong its just not.. animal crossing

This would honestly be a much better game if you could have multiple saves. I know that's not really an Animal Crossing thing, but as you said, it's kinda not Animal Crossing. Resetting my island helped me a lot too but eventually I got unhappy again. But I suppose I got my money's worth.

The main reason I have felt burnout recently is because of cataloging. I love cataloging, but after a year and a half of swapping between my switch and ACNH app I am so done. It takes me 2 hours to do all my daily’s including cataloging while when I skip cataloging I’m done in an hour or less. I really hope in the next game we get cataloging and home storage indicators in shops so I no longer need a separate app.

As an artist, when I'm feeling burnt out or stressed about doing art, I watch speedpaints or videos from other artists I like. Same goes for New horizons content. Sometimes seeing how other people play your favorite game (especially one where creativity has a strong role) can help you get remotivation again. That's probably obvious but I mean, I find it helpful~

What kinda makes me burnt out of ACNH has 4 Reasons.
    1. I am a completionist. And Always having to log the stuff etc got hard
    2. I was trying to be in many communitys and nookazon. This was kinda exhausting
    3. I had no real friends owning the game or even a switch at all
    4. Still missing mechanics like only beeing able to order 5 items or craft only 1 item at the time.

I've experienced this "burnout" fron ACNH, but I don't understand why it matters? Go do something other than a video game. Later down the line you'll want to come back to it without forcing yourself to play (just like you said, Kora)! It's for entertainment, not "I have to play this daily." I have felt this, but there is so much more IRL to do. I'm not bashing Kora or anyone else that plays AC for a living or just for fun (like me lol), I'm just saying we all need to take a break and this burnout is a great time to do it. I haven't played AC in awhile and I got a lot to do in it, but I'll come back to do it later and love it for awhile again. 🙂

When I get burned out, I do the "unthinkable".... I destroy my island, create a new human character going to a new island, and start over completely from scratch! I know, I know, it's hard to do. But wow, this really jazzes up the game. Well, for ME anyway. LOL I don't even know how many islands I have had so far, but lots since I play every day and generally keep an island about 2-5 months.. The first part of the game is so much fun, making the island beautiful, terraforming, getting to know new animals. LOTS to do compared with later on in the game.

If I'm feeling burned out I'll got play Fallout 4, Hades, Pokemon mystery dungeon, Breath of the Wild, Mario Kart, Assassin's Creed, ect. Normally if I'm feeling burned out it's because I have such big ideas for my island that I have no idea where to start so I just keep building that stress in my head untill I have no idea what to do on my island. I swear my minds thought process is strange like: "I could always start on ___ build, but if I start on it then I would have to gather all the items for it then customize the items and plan it all out. But I that seems like way to much work for me right now so I'll just jot the idea down and put it on the back burner."

I think the reason why I get burnt out with Animal Crossing is that I try to play it like it were a Story of Seasons/Stardew game. Those games are all about time management and trying to find the most efficient routines to get as much done in an in-game day as possible. I try to do that with Animal Crossing, which is more a game about taking your time then trying to cram in as many activities as possible. As an example, on the very first day of a new month I'll sit for hours trying to catch every new fish, bug, and sea creature even though I have a whole real-world month to do that in. I need to learn to take my time with AC and I'd probably enjoy it a lot more. My island isn't going to fall apart because I don't spend a few minutes every day grinding out a bit of each Nook Mile achievement.

And that way you can switch ‘em around a little my ususal dopa-loop is: ACNH and Stardew; Apex Legends And Splatoon; Terraria and minecraft. Now keep in mind its essential to break the loop and do something completely different like a soulslike but if you dont have the money to buy new games every burn out its good to settle with a few in a way like this.

    I don’t like New Horizons
I liked it at first because it was the shiny new thing, but after losing interest in it for months and then getting back into New Leaf, I can say that I don’t like the game.
It’s not a bad game, and it’s an improvement on New Leaf in almost every way, but in doing so, much like the jump from the 3DS to the Switch itself, they removed all the charm that they once had. New Horizons is a good game, but it’s not a good animal crossing game.

I love acnh, I don't really feel burnt out but there are some days I don't feel like playing which is ok, if u take a break you'll want to come back. I'm trying to finish my house which is something I didn't do in my previous island. I'm also trying a new theme and watching froggy crossing or Tiger give me a boost to play as well as Kora. ACNH is starting to feel more like a chore than a pleasure, I mostly play just to check in and read Isabelle's daily announcement. I am still trying to catch all the fish and bugs I still haven't caught yet, and I'd like some help finishing the art section of my museum, and if any of you have a spare red, green or blue (not light blue) Randoseru, I'd like to do business with you! Nintendo had a BIG opportunity for a game that receives regular updates! Not to mention, NH is missing a LOT of content from past AC games, like extra Nook upgrades, Gracie, mini games and allsorts! I haven't played Happy Home Paradise much, so I will do more of that in the meantime!

I haven't felt like playing ACNH lately, but that is more to do with life situation than the game itself. Trying different games may or may not work as I am subject to motion sickness playing games in first person perspective. I've created an alt profile in my game (I only have the one switch) as I felt I still have things to do in my game. It allowed me to start over without really starting over. Like documenting the alt-character's utter failure of Label's fashion request (which would have been impossible to see otherwise since Label does not arrive until *after* the Able sisters shop opens).
Also with said alt-profile I've assigned new roles - my resident representative is now the island planner and the alt-profile is the dedicated farmer (2.0 update helped there) taking cues from Stardew Valley.
Another thing I am looking at doing as my original two villagers in my ACNH getaway have reunited on my HHP (both have left my island), is to create a collection of short stories (in written form - I do not have the capabilities of doing this in video format) taking cue from an Animal Crossing discord challenge from last winter (telling stories of villager interactions with each other possibly at the Roost but in my case on the beach of HHP and/or the restaurant and/or the cafe).
And as for villager hunting, thanks to access to TIs, I've accumulated a lot of NMTs and decided to...try to determine who is in my move-in queue. I am not actively trying to find this out. This is very much a side quest. I just find it interesting.

i feel like no matter what nintendo puts into acnh, people still won’t be satisfied. just like with every other update, everybody rushes through the content to get every item and see every new thing and then after maybe 2 weeks of grinding, there’s nothing left that’s new. i see people say that mini games and more upgrades would keep players interested but i don’t see how because they’d get bored of that too.

    • @SoraFan23

I said this so many times and I'll say it again. This game has the worst longevity. New Leaf was played for years because at the time it had enough content in it for it to last longer. This one didn't at launch which explains why most of the content was added after the launch.

ACNH is great for what it is and for a certain amount of time, it was great for me too. It helped me to socialize a bit and admittedly, without it I've noticed a decrease in my social skills, but I just wasn't having fun. Decorating (unless it's for weird, creepy things like a KFC staffed by chickens) isn't fun to me, especially outside of the DLC. I've caught all the fish, heard all the dialogue, and have done pretty much all I wanted to do. I got my money's worth.
I'm playing Stardew Valley right now and have just started a co-op game with my cousins. This game is so ridiculously underpriced and I'm loving it, even without the graphics.
This may be controversial because everyone has a different play style and Animal Crossing has always been about long--term, real-time gameplay, but I really like how easy it is in Stardew Valley to just start over or make a new save file. So many possibilities on every save and it gives you the opportunity to test things out or try something new.
To get the same effect, I had to completely reset my island and honestly, I had so much fun starting over. I wish I could've kept my first island too, but y'know...
There's no way I'm buying multiple switches to get multiple games. Not to hate on anyone who does, but that's just...insane to me.
But again, I know it's Animal Crossing and it's always sorta been that way. But never before has it been such a big issue, in my opinion.

  • @isolanni

I bought a second switch so that I could play in both hemispheres. I made my 2nd switch an illustration of a book I love. It requires a ton of terraforming.
I'm still burnt out, though. I think I'll restart my main Island - and I'll try watching more content. I was very put-off when I found that the villager personalities were so thin. Getting the DLC helped a lot, but I burnt through that, too.
The suggestion to play another game sounds good. I have Pikmin, which is quite different - and I've barely started it. I heard that a new chapter of "Chibi-Robo" is coming to the switch. That was a Wonderful game.

When I look at a game like Animal Crossing or Harvest Moon / SOS I set up specific goals. The same can be said for other games where there is management involved. Like Jurassic World Evolution -- I want to get all the islands to 5 stars and then play in sandbox mode for a bit before moving onto the next game. I'm still on the first game because I don't have a lot of free time these days (yay retail in 2022). I generally prefer RPGs for this reason, but farming sims and other management type of games do a lot for my depression when I'm unable to focus on my main stories.

First off, this may seem like a repeat of a comment I made on this channel on a very similar subject.
Am I getting burned out on New Horizons? No. Because each day I have a purpose to keep playing the game.
    1. I still want to get 100% collected of all bugs and fish and sea creatures (I just have a few left now)
    2. Most importantly, I play the game now merely to help others!
I love to fire up the game, and give away materials, fruits, veggies, and have people catalog stuff that I have. For free.
Because it's nice to help others.
Because it's nice to play a game where you don't need to kill anyone and you can just HELP other players.
I don't need in game monies (I have millions of bells, thousands of nmts). When I give away things and let people catalog my stuff, the joy that I see and hear when they give honest appreciation for what I give away, is payment enough. It literally replenishes my soul. And I know that I am helping others make THEIR own islands awesome :)
I also love to have people come to my island to see what it looks like! I am very proud of what I have accomplished, and I love people to visit it and look around and get inspiration to make their islands even better :)
So I will continue to play the game every day.
With that said, I have noticed that not as many ppl are playing the game. I am a frequent user of the Nookazon Discord channel, and i HAVE noted a very noticeable drop in the participation level of people on the channel - I feel that the active player base is dropping ever so often as time passes on.
And I will truly be sad when this game is no longer popular enough to play online.
Hoping that they ARE trying to develop a new AC game for us to play in 2023.
