- The Ontario government recently appointed Howard Sapers, the federal correctional investigator, to look into the use of segregation - generally known as solitary confinement - and ways to improve the province's prison system. The appointment comes following criticism of the treatment of Adam Capay, a First Nations man kept in segregation for four years while awaiting trial. Meanwhile, prisons across the country grapple with overcrowding, inmates with mental health issues, and a disproportionate number of Indigenous people behind bars. The Agenda assembles a panel to look into the challenges facing the corrections system.
