Rich Langdon, Styx was powerful. Lady was their 1st song. Dennis we Young write the sing in his garage. Friends got together and firmed a band around it.
They use this song in an episode of Supernatural. It is one of the best music cues I have seen in a TV show. Styx came to the local county fair. I told my mom I was going and asked if she wanted to come. When we got there the guy next to us, around my mom's age, asked if my mom had dragged me there. She said nope I dragged my mom.

“Renegade” is the last song Styx plays in its encore. The crowd goes bat shit crazy!
I got pulled over for speeding in town about 15 years ago. I’m 63 now, so I was in my late 40’s. Cop asked me why I was speeding. I said I was listening to “Renegade” 😬 He gave me a warning and let me go 😛
I got busted for speeding in the 70's. My car was very obvious, there was 1 similar to mine but was brown. Mine was white. My best friend had his mother's car, she was an ER nurse and had to have her car. So in an effort to get her car home we decided to play race car so we could get it home in time. I was in my car, he was behind me when I ran the stop sign by the libary. He stopped and saw the cops sitting at the red light about a hundred yards away. When he saw i wasn't going to stop he pulled out behind me and started flashing his lights. I thought he meant to go faster. So i dropped the hammer. A little side note here, what i didn't know was inside the cop car was an officer all us hippies considered a friend. He was a great cop as was all the local cops except 1. The other asshole we wouldn't have walked across the street to piss on him if his guts were on fire. Also in the car was a newly minted officer. 1st night on the job. First hour on the job. His 1st patrol was from the pig pen to the red light (about a 100 yards) when the officer saw me run the stop sign. By the time he flipped on the lights i was over the hill and couldn't see them. Back to the story. As i said my friend was behind me flashing his lights, so I went faster. The reason he was flashing his lights was because he saw the cop car and was flashing his lights to get me to stop. Which i would have i wasn't worried about a speeding ticket. As i said all local stoners had worked out an agreement with local enforcement if we saw anything totally wrong we'd let them know, I mean like breaking into a house or stealing someone's stereo. That shit is just wrong and we didn't need you in our group. Hence if they saw us breaking small time laws, rolling through stop signs, doing more than 10 mph over the speed limit they would pull us over and bitch us out. We drove/raced towards his house. There was a very tricky turn that is deadly at speeds over 45 has caused dozens of fender benders. In fact 2 of my friends were killed at that turn. From that turn there's a straight stretch for almost 3/4 mile, when i was about to turn off the main road i saw the flashing lights. So i pulled over and stopped. They were so far behind i had time to get out of my car. When the officer got out of the car I got to hear a phrase I'd always wanted to hear. It was a cop screaming in my face "just where the fuck is the fire", i busted out laughing and after him bitchin at me like my father for 5-10 minutes he calmed down. The next problem was when he asked for my license. I told him i lost them. He didn't wait for an explanation. He thought they were suspended, they weren't suspended i had physically lost them. I no longer carry a wallet because I've lost at least 6 and approximately $800, unknown sets of keys, I am now limited to no more than $20. This was agreed upon by all parties. Anyway after he calmed down and got down to writing the ticket as I'm watching i saw that I was being charged with doing 95 in a 25 mph zone and reckless operation. My cohort had to deal with the new guy, the cop was not gonna let the newby talk to me. He said the guy was shaking so bad he offered to fill the ticket out for him. Since he had his mother's car she had to get out of bed to come down and identify her car a say it wasn't stolen. I used this time to practice the ancient art of ass kissing. I was waiting for my friend to be released and the cop pulled in. I went over and apologized and said how stupid it was. I told him we were just dickin' around. I asked him at what point they got a speed reading on me? He said they couldn't so they went with how fast they had to go ketch me. But by simply apologizing I got my ticket dropped from speeding and reckless operation to just speeding. About a $100 cheaper and only 2 pts on my license instead of 6. The new officer? When they got him back to the station it took them almost 2 hours to talk him out quitting. He said he didn't want to work with crazy bastards like me. After we trained him he turned out to be a pretty decent cop.

Thank you for listening to Styx! One of my absolute favorite bands. You cant go wrong with ANY of their songs. A little trivia..... Styx only had ONE number one song. I’m always so shocked at that. They were huge. I have come to the conclusion that there were soooo.. many great bands back then, that the competition was crazy. That’s my two cents on that. Who reading this would agree??
So many good song to choose from. Too Much Time On My Hands, Lorilei, Sing For The Day, Blue Collar Man, Foolin' Yourself, Boat On The River. A few years ago Tommy Shaw and Styx did some shows with the Cleveland Youth Orchestra. I've seen clips on UA-cam and it's on Amazon Prime.
The Great 70's Band STYX. Love Tommy Shaw, Dennis DeYoung Harmony's. LIGHTUP, BLUE COLLAR MAN, Some Really Good Live Versions of this Group. Peace Out....
Was waiting on the realization that you’d heard it before. Too much time on my hands, come sail away, babe, mr. roboto, Crystal ball, the best of time, and many others from Styx
I caught Styx in concert at the Budokan January, 1982. At the end of the show Dennise DeYoung shaved off his mustache. Haha, the Japanese audience loved it.
i had the absolute pleasure of seeing Styx perform this live at Texas Jam 1983 as the headlining act. They were amazeballz and it was an experience not to be forgotten!
All time Favorite of Styx.. love me some Tommy Shaw. This song still gives me chills... Love it. Had a friend 25 yrs ago that loved Styx also but he loved Dennis DeYoung.. all good.. He had money and would take me and my husband to Styx concerts all over the country.. Have to thank him because we loved every dang concert.. Renegade will always be my all time favorite.
Frank Altrui I like a lot of the later stuff from Kansas as well “ Fight Fire with Fire “ and “ Everybody’s my Friend “ are great songs from the eighties.
Look up the sound check video "Down the Road" from their "Know Place Like Home" DVD. That show brought back former band members Kerry Livgren (pre-stroke) and Steve Morse. The interlude part of the song where Steve Walsh (organ), David Ragsdale (violin), and all three guitarists all get their own time to solo still blows me away to this day. And in to that this was filmed live with no overdubs...you will see what fantastic musicians these guys are.
Styx is such an amazing rabbit hole. Multiple lead singers, basically multiple lead guitars. Amazing musicianship and songwriting all around in the band. So many different sounds if you listen to a lot of their songs.
Thank you for choosing Styx. Their music has stood the test of time. Tommy Shaw works with a youth orchestra, and their performance of “Fooling Yourself “ is unbelievable. It is worthwhile for you to profile, and I encourage everyone to watch them. You are my favorite UA-camr, Jamal!
anything styx does in concert is insane. the crowd participation and reaction. My pops and I used to go see them whenever they were in town. Dad and I fought a lot...many days I hated him as much as I loved him..but our love of music was a shared thing. Probably why despite the dichotomy of that relationship...why I miss him so much some days
Renegade, Blue Collar Man and Too Much Time are my favorite Styx songs. There are so many great songs from them: Babe, Best of Times, Lady ........... Just an awesome group and they’re just as awesome live. Thanks so much for covering this great song and group.
Jamel, you mentioned how great this song would be in concert.... You should see and here it when it's played at Heinz Field. Inspirational and motivating.
Hey man! Great choice of songs on this one. I saw Styx last year, and yes sir, they are awesome, and this song especially. I just wanted to thank you for doing your channel, and you really bring me a lot of enjoyment. The fresh look you give at so many different kinds of music is so cool. My Dad told me that one of the highest compliments you can pay to someone is to tell them that you enrich their lives, and I want to pay that compliment to you. Keep on keepin on!
As a man who saw Styx perform this song back in the day when they were in their prime... You, the crowd enthusiastically clapped in rhythm when it came to the bridge of the song.
I LOVE THIS SONG. Styx were the first band I had ever listened to. My brother had left to college leaving his portable cassette player and I loved the cover on the cassette cover I just put in and started listening to it. LOVE STYX!
You should check out "Lady" and "Suite Madam Blue" and "Crystal Ball" from Styx as well !! Thank you For hanging out with all of us, feels like I'm watching and listening with a friend ! You Rock :)
Might be because a certain "Renegade" has been rumored to have been caught and executed. That part about "I don't wanna go!", sounds just like how it happened. Dragged to the firing line, whimpering like a wounded animal!
I know you don't know this but this song is played at all Pittsburgh Steelers games at home. Usually they play it when the defense gets on the field. When the crowd hears the beginning of the song they go nuts and start cheering. The players dance it up also. Gets everyone going. Love your channel.
You need to check out Tracy Chapman - Fast Car.... Great song, powerful lyrics...... This is a great live version Tracy Chapman - Fast Car - 12/4/1988 - Oakland Coliseum Arena (Official)
I'm not a social person and I have been to very few concerts. I saw styx live in cypress gardens and I can remember every second. I love the keyboard work in their music. I love piano, sax, and anything similar mixed in my rock.
Styx always had stellar vocal chops, especially with their 3-part harmonies. Another awesome but underrated song by them is 'Superstars" from the epic The Grand Illusion album.
THANK YOU for doing STYX!!!!! Just for fun... You really should look up some videos of their live performances from the past couple years, so you can see what they look like now, even after rocking out for more than 45 years... you can tell they absolutely love being on stage, and they are still rocking! They were still touring until Covid shut down concerts everywhere. I think you would really like Fooling Yourself (Angry Young Man), Blue Collar Man, Crystal Ball, Babe, The Best of Times, and the list goes on. Another thing that's really cool is the series of videos that they did where they periodically team up with a group of teens called Contemporary Youth Orchestra. Sometimes it's just Tommy Shaw (lead singer) with CYO, and sometimes it's the whole band. The kids, the band, the audience... all having an absolute blast singing/playing classic STYX songs. Sooooo much fun to watch!
Styx was one of my favorites in high school is still CLASSIC. Every band member was multi talented and their music was stellar. "Come Sail Away" was played at our high school Graduation...we were spellbound!!!
The Best of Times by Styx was our senior song in hs. Renegade is my favorite but they have many amazing songs. Tommy Shaw starts singing this acapello in concert and the crowd goes crazy. You should do Too Much Time On My Hands from the official video with Tommy in the blue jumpsuit and great facial expressions. Babe by Styx is a great song. It was out around the same time as Sail On by Commodores and Rock With You by Michael Jackson. We had jukebox in our school cafeteria in hs and all of those were on it. Good times!!! Thanks for reaching to this song!❤😊
That is Tommy Shaw singing. He did a lot of their hits. He eventually left and Joined Damn Yankees with Jack Blades from Night Ranger and Ted Nugent. Night Ranger and Damn Yankees are two bands I'd love to see you react to.
Oh love me some night ranger when you close your eyes four in the morning You can still rock in America they had those two back to back kick ass albums in the early 80s midnight madness and seven wishes. Yeah sister Christian is the one that everyone knows is night ranger but there’s so many better songs than that
@@LA-fz5qw sister Christian is actually a song of Kelly keagy's sister Christine but Jack and Brad thought that Kelly was saying Christian and that's how the song came about. The song "Goodbye" gives me goosebumps everytime I hear it,it was Jack's brother dying from a drug overdose and you can tell it is emotional for Jack and from Kelly in his vocals for the song
Awesome! You started the clap exactly where we do it at the concert!! I've loved Styx since college - and I have tickets to see them in Las Vegas in September!!
If you want to keep going with Styx, try A.D. 1928/Rockin' the Paradise from the Paradise Theater album. (Been a long time since I listened to Styx - brings back memories.)

The Pittsburgh Steelers have used this in the 2nd half of every home game for years! Pumps up the team & the crowd....love it and the Black & Gold! Here we go Steelers...here we go!
Styx, Kansas, REO Speedwagon, Journey, Foreigner.... all the classic "arena rock" bands had a ton of great material.

“Crystal Ball” is a MUST for Styx!
Yes!!! Absolutely
Yesssssssss!
The Great 70's Band STYX. Love Tommy Shaw, Dennis DeYoung Harmony's. LIGHTUP, BLUE COLLAR MAN, Some Really Good Live Versions of this Group. Peace Out....
I had the privilege of seeing Styx in concert. Absolutely epic.
As a Pittsburgh Steelers fan, "Renegade" is part of my religion.
You took me right back to my teen years again. Totally enraptured by the music then I open my eyes to find you head bangin just like I was.
i had the absolute pleasure of seeing Styx perform this live at Texas Jam 1983 as the headlining act.
Styx has a ton of good songs,,check out “best of times”
This one has great harmonies!
Paradise Theater.
Crystal ball
Light up and Blue Collar Man are great too.
Mr. Roboto 😀
Do some Kansas sooooon!!! Carry on my wayward son ...... dust in the wind ...... point of no return. All you will love!!!!!!!!!!
YES! Some good songs are...Angry Young man, Come sail away, Mr Roboto and just about everything from the paradise theatre album.
I remember this song when it came out
I'm old ...
"guess that makes me ancient. I have it my 45's collection" LOL !!!!!
You and me both...
Lol...I was a senior in high school and this was the song we had the girls that wanted to be in the next year's drill team tryout to.
Lol me too
My parents had the 45 I was about 10 and the headphones on my head where on 10!
anything styx does in concert is insane. the crowd participation and reaction. My pops and I used to go see them whenever they were in town. Dad and I fought a lot...many days I hated him as much as I loved him..but our love of music was a shared thing. Probably why despite the dichotomy of that relationship...why I miss him so much some days
Tommy Shaw is so underrated, imo.
Have you seen his performances with the Cleveland Youth Orchestra? If not, you're in for a major treat.
Blew me away at how good it is.
Ah, I've said this for years
Renegade, Blue Collar Man and Too Much Time are my favorite Styx songs.
No one has suggested "Miss America" by Styx yet so I'll be the first!
JY, James Young is the heart and hard rocking soul of Styx, underrated guitarist and vocalist in my opinion.
Crystal Ball 🎸🎸🎸🎶🎶🎙️🎙️
I have! Like 5 times!
And how about Shooz?
“Fooling Yourself” and “Lorelei” both by Styx are awesome
As a man who saw Styx perform this song back in the day when they were in their prime... You, the crowd enthusiastically clapped in rhythm when it came to the bridge of the song.
I LOVE THIS SONG. Styx were the first band I had ever listened to. My brother had left to college leaving his portable cassette player and I loved the cover on the cassette cover I just put in and started listening to it. LOVE STYX!
"Suite Madam Blue", "Too Much Time on my Hands", "Snowblind"
Those 3 songs are the best!
P.s. thats Tommy shaw singing this one.
Lol me too.
Harmonies are insane and they never let you down!
Styx - man in the wilderness. Underrated as hell
Probably my favorite!
You should check out "Lady" and "Suite Madam Blue" and "Crystal Ball" from Styx as well !!
Thank you For hanging out with all of us, feels like I'm watching and listening with a friend ! You Rock :)
The Pittsburgh Steelers theme song lol. They play it at all their games.
Come Sail Away !! yes brother
I cannot believe how many Styx haters there are, they are delusional.
Haven't you seen That 70's Show? They're all just closeted Styx fans.
Yep.
Please feel free to point them out to me so I can promptly kick their ass.
One of my favorite bands
Might be because a certain "Renegade" has been rumored to have been caught and executed. That part about "I don't wanna go!", sounds just like how it happened. Dragged to the firing line, whimpering like a wounded animal!
Real good stuff! The Grand Illusion...entire album.
This is my favorite song from Styx, thank you for sharing love your reactions to the video
Ooh. Lovely song
Check out the vertical horizon cover
Singing the high harmony in the breakdown was Tommy Shaw’s audition. He sang it and they said.....you’re in
Styx- Suite Madame Blue. My favorite Styx song ever.
I'm not a social person and I have been to very few concerts. I saw styx live in cypress gardens and I can remember every second. I love the keyboard work in their music. I love piano, sax, and anything similar mixed in my rock.
I saw Styx perform this in '79. The vocals were mesmerizing.
So glad to see you finally getting to this. Your reactions are the best!
This is the Pittsburgh Steelers pump up song every home game around the third quarter. Big song in Pittsburgh
Yes huge huge huge to the point people thought this song was made just for them.
Before every Steelers game me and my three year old son jam out to this and waive the terrible towel!! AWESOME!!!
…and even the occasional away game.
Been asking for this song for a while!! Great and Underrated Song!
"Sweet Madam Blue" it is sooo good!!!
"Sweet Madam Blue" Styx ...
Yes!
Nay 4Peace Suite
I feel like I'm at a Steelers game and we need to step it up at the beginning of the 4th quarter.
yea man
I see the terrible towels in my mind’s eye!
There is honestly no better feeling. HERE WE GO!!!!!!
Haha I just commented something similar before I scrolled down
Yup! Let the ass whipping begin. Makes me want to tackle somebody. Preferably someone wearing Browns garbage.
One of the greatest songs from one of the greatest bands in Rock Band History! We did much cruising in the day to Styx's music. Classic!!!
Sorry. Spellchecker changed that to reaching and I didn't catch it.😣
"What is that?!?" That is an expert keyboard player all up in your adrenaline, sir. Enjoy.
Nothing like Dennis DeYoung playing that keyboard.
Billy Thorpe "Children of the Sun"! Lol
love that song
Sweet southern succotash, BY ALL MEANS!!!!!!!
I've requested that song several times and it is a great song with great guitar riffs and a great tone.
@@atomicpunk520 Me too. Figured I'd keep it up till he did it or told me to go away. Lol
That would blow his mind!
The Pittsburgh Steelers play this song at the start or 1st timeout of the 4th quarter to get the fans in a frenzy.... it works every game!
They were a fantastic concert, Suite Madame Blue, Sail Away, Snowblind, Crystal Ball, So many great songs.
THERE IS NOTHING like 70s, 80s, 90s music. It cuts like a knife to your soul! I wish it were brought back!
That is Tommy Shaw singing. He did a lot of their hits. He eventually left and Joined Damn Yankees with Jack Blades from Night Ranger and Ted Nugent. Night Ranger and Damn Yankees are two bands I'd love to see you react to.
I thought Damn Yankees was pretty great.
Oh love me some night ranger when you close your eyes four in the morning You can still rock in America they had those two back to back kick ass albums in the early 80s midnight madness and seven wishes. Yeah sister Christian is the one that everyone knows is night ranger but there’s so many better songs than that
"Don't tread on me" would be great to see him react to. 😺😸
That was Dennis DeYoung singing. Tommy Shaw took over lead vocals after Dennis left, but not when this song was recorded.
Known this song my whole life, but the intro feels particularly timely.
and Dennis DeYoung is a total class act. I've had the pleasure of meeting him and his wife.
Awesome! You started the clap exactly where we do it at the concert!! I've loved Styx since college - and I have tickets to see them in Las Vegas in September!!
Saw them live in Omaha Nebraska 1981...was an awesome show!! Great choice. Styx has so many great songs !
Sticking with Styx: I have 3 “L” songs for you to react to: Lady; Light Up; Lorelei ❤️😊
4 "L" Songs including Lights!
If you want to keep going with Styx, try A.D. 1928/Rockin' the Paradise from the Paradise Theater album. (Been a long time since I listened to Styx - brings back memories.)
I’d love to see you react to “Cold as Ice” by Foreigner
Great song!
In HighSchool This was my favorite song. Listened to it constantly. I was most definitely ahead of my time. Love your reaction, you nailed it exactly. Thanks
Styx is one of my favorite groups of all time. Renegade is an excellent song. Whoo hoo. 💯❤
Oh yea. More Styx please. Blue Collar Man, Live.
Great tune for sure!
William Weiss yes!
Was my fav band growing up!
They are a great band and still love Pieces of Eight to this day.
Random, but I’d love to see you do the 2 big hits by Golden Earrings- “Twilight Zone” and “Radar Love”
Man in the wilderness, castle walls, pieces of eight, just a few of my favorites from this classic rock band.
The Pittsburgh Steelers have used this in the 2nd half of every home game for years! Pumps up the team & the crowd....love it and the Black & Gold! Here we go Steelers...here we go!
