Do yourself a favor and check out the title track from that album “The Grand Illusion” and “Fooling Yourself”(the angry young man). “Crystal Ball” is also a great one, and “Suite: Madam Blue”. Enjoy my friend! 🎸
I have been to many concerts in my 57 years but the best all around sound, lights, stage and crowd was Styx Paradise Theater tour at the Cow Palace in San Francisco I was 15 years old I will never forget thousands of people singing this song together! The show started with Dennis DeYoung coming up through the stage playing his white grand piano.. I'm so glad I grew up during this time in music. I am enjoying reliving it though watching you discover it. 😀
Styx ... brings back great memories. They had so many great tunes: Babe, Mr. Roboto, Lady, Lorelei (pronounced Laura Lye), Too Much Time On My Hands, Fooling Yourself, Crystal Ball, Show Me the Way ...
"Lady" is beautiful! It was from their second album... their only real hit until the 4th album, Equinox, when they exploded onto the international scene with "Suite Madam Blue"! They went back and re-issued Lady after they had made it big... ;-]

What about that solo song by Dennis Deyoung where he goes back to his childhood home to see friends....can’t remember the name but the video is 80’s perfection...

This is the hardest song to listen too. My sons Dad died unexpectedly, it took us a year to go see his grave. This song began playing as we were leaving. His dad had been in the Navy for 21 years. Loved to fish, take the kids out on his boat. We were all crying as we left. Still a great song. It was like he was telling us he was okay in heaven....
Can't help but smile at your "Dolphin sounds" comment. Amazing what you can do with an electronic synthesizer. That is Classic Rock from the good old days. Lots of love songs from that time.

Jamal, you absolutely HAVE to react to “Suite Madame Blue” and others like “Shooz”, “Man In The Wilderness” and “Mr. Roboto” from Styx! A true classic rock band with some mega hits! #Styx 🤘🏻
It took me until age 46 to admit that I was an atheist. (I was raised Jewish, and for a long while it felt as if saying "Come on, there's no God. You think millions of innocent children would be dying in horrible pain RIGHT NOW, if some "God" could stop it?" was betraying all my cousins and co-religionists who died for their faith.) That said, I think this song is the closest I'll ever come to a religious experience. "A gathering of angels appeared above my head They sang to me this song of hope, and this is what they said" Bless you, Dennis.
Funny how music takes you on some amazing rides. As I started, I was with many of you going back to high school. Smiling. Then bam. This was my brother's favorite band. We would argue about it. He loved this type of music. Me more of the southern rock and heavier sounds. Smiling ear to ear. Great times! Man I need to send this reaction to Bert I begin to tell myself. Sorrow yet still smiling a bit, memory of extreme physical pain, shaking like a leaf, crying, as I am going thru colo-rectal cancer treatment when I get the csll. No this can't be, I was just talking to him the other day. Begging my wife to tell me it's not true. Alas, God had decided that Bert was needed in heaven. Seven years ago a couple of days before Memorial Day my older and only brother was called to Heaven. Thank you for these memories. The great, the good, the sad. These are what make each of us who we are. Believe me, you have just made a ordinary night better for this old man.
I feel you Ron. This one brings back memories of my best friend David. This was one of his favorites and for as long as I knew him he said he wanted me to sing this one at his funeral. When the day came a few short years ago, I was to overwhelmed to sing, but we did play it. So sorry for your loss, but glad you got to remember the memories. Me too. ❤
@@Crimsonams then you can understand that emotional ride I'm talking about that music takes you on. The sorrow is temporary as I will see my brother, and all my friends and family again.
Thank you both for the remarks. The sorrow is but one of the emotions I had, but I was trying to convey the emotional ride one can have listening to music. I have heard this song and others many times before. It was when I was watching Jamel's reaction that they all hit, which is what made it so great. He would have loved the reaction as much as we do. I wasn't trying to gain sympathy, as in the end the happiness is greater. I was really thanking Jamel for his hard work and great channel. Thank you
@@ronbertka He's amazing, isn't he? Your comment just spoke to me as I was planning on commenting on the video myself and your story and the song had similar connotations with mine. That pure joy that registers on Jamel's face when he listens to a song just brings back so many great memories of the first time hearing it or something significant that happened in our lives that we associate with whatever he's listening to. I look forward to checking out his uploads every night when I get home from work.
I'm such an old school person who grew up way back from the early 60s and graduated in 1981. I graduated in East Los Angeles area. I ended up moving to Southern Oregon for 17 years. I finally saw Styx in concert up in Portland back in 2003. They were awesome in concert after years later that I remember growing up with this music. Thank Jamel for putting out good music.
Here we go styx one thing I absolutely love about them lately is they tour a lot and you can usually catch them on a three bill show obviously not this summer the last time I saw them it was styx foreigner and heart I mean I miss Dennis DeYoung but they still got Tommy
Great to see you listening to Styx, another great band! I recommend two lesser known but excellent tracks from them, "Man in the Wilderness" and "Boat on the River".
I saw them in concert, 1983. This song was the highlight of the show. The memory of the lights on the ceiling of the Omni (Atlanta, GA) during this song gives me goosebumps to this day. Thanks for this video. It's awesome sharing the musical experience.
Jamal, you have to review "The Grand Illusion" by STYX. Man you'll LOVE IT. The lyrics explain A LOT about so many things you never thought about! Love the channel, keep up the great work!
Yeah, about 4:45, when Jamel started diggin' on the synth-"dolphin" sounds, knowing what was coming up after the second bridge, all I could think was "hold on....sh*ts about to get weird!"
My favorite Styx song. Got to see them live in concert back in the day. It was loud.....and fun!! Good times!!Thanks for the reaction. Please do more songs from them!!
I got to see this live a couple of times but the best one was the Return to Paradise tour with both of my brothers. Hugging each other singing our brains out. Truly the best of times.
Check out the newest Teddy Swims cover...he keeps true to the original "soul" of Marvin...vs other's I've heard, most noticeably by Michael McDonald from YEARS AGO!

Styx- more than just a great rock band. They are a cultural phenomenon in a way, getting references in movies and TV quite often. Where do you even start and, heck, where do you dare stop with the suggestions for their songs? My personal favorite song is the mega rock radio staple, "Foolin' Yourself". Enjoy the trip, Jamel! So fun to listen to!
Hi Jamel great Styx selection but they have so many ... Do Kansas sometime. Maybe song for America and point of no return , the wall , so many from them as well
I got to see these guys, twice back in 1978 & 1983, the first time was in a small arena and this song just echoed throught the building. The second time was in a slightly larger one for the "Kilroy was Here" tour.
When I was in high school, three of the biggest rock bands were Styx, Journey, and REO Speedwagon.

@@jessiem276 They are mostly American, with one Canadian band member since 1999.

Styx-Sweet Madame Blue, this song really showcases how amazing a vocalist Dennis DeYoung is.
Agree....he won’t be disappointed, that’s for sure. It’s great song!
I've always enjoyed this song, but like many other commentors, I have a difficult time not hearing Eric Cartman now. It is literally a struggle to tune out his voice when listening to the song now. T.T
Cartman had ruined many song for me. Heat of the Moment by Asia, In the Ghetto by Elvis, etc.
It wasn't a 70's High School dance, unless they played a Styx song. I'm loving this trip down memory lane. Great UA-cam channel!
Styx is outstanding, please do more of their stuff!
Eric Cartman sang this so beautifully. “I hate you gaiz”.
Yeah he had to finish the whole song if he heard part of it 😄
Yes! This song always makes me think of that episode.
Every time I hear this song, I have to sing it in Cartman voice!
Gotta love Chefs breakdown in it as well.
🎶 “come sail away, come sail away, come sail away with me... you guys.” 🎶 😆
Jamal, you absolutely HAVE to react to “Suite Madame Blue” and others like “Shooz”, “Man In The Wilderness” and “Mr. Roboto” from Styx! A true classic rock band with some mega hits! #Styx 🤘🏻
I wish Styx would take Dennis Deyoung back for one final tour.
Me too man. Me too
Agree, but still love Tommy!
Absolutely love Styx!! The feels!!
It took me until age 46 to admit that I was an atheist. (I was raised Jewish, and for a long while it felt as if saying "Come on, there's no God. You think millions of innocent children would be dying in horrible pain RIGHT NOW, if some "God" could stop it?" was betraying all my cousins and co-religionists who died for their faith.)
That said, I think this song is the closest I'll ever come to a religious experience.
"A gathering of angels appeared above my head
They sang to me this song of hope, and this is what they said"
Bless you, Dennis.
Huge hugs, Ron. So sorry for your loss.
So Jamel, before you move on from Styx, you might want to have a listen to "Lady". Ideally the studio version:)
I have said that so many times! And I have requested it over and over. Hope he gets the message this time!
Agreed!
South Park had an episode where Cartman had to sing the whole song whenever he heard part of it
That was mine and so many of my friends introduction to Styx....
Hilarious episode!
Styx was sister's fav group. Everytime I heard this song I think on her. Miss you sis.
Here we go styx one thing I absolutely love about them lately is they tour a lot and you can usually catch them on a three bill show obviously not this summer the last time I saw them it was styx foreigner and heart I mean I miss Dennis DeYoung but they still got Tommy
“Crystal Ball” “Suite Madame Blue” “Queen of Spades”
You’re welcome!
Queen of Spades and Pieces of Eight are overlooked so much.
Great to see you listening to Styx, another great band! I recommend two lesser known but excellent tracks from them, "Man in the Wilderness" and "Boat on the River".
Totally second both of those, especially "Man in the Wilderness" my favorite Styx song.
One of their finest albums. Grand Illusion and pieces of eight.
Community, Troy: "Why am I crying? Did someone play Come Sail Away by Styx again?"
Yeah, about 4:45, when Jamel started diggin' on the synth-"dolphin" sounds, knowing what was coming up after the second bridge, all I could think was "hold on....sh*ts about to get weird!"
I was thinking just wait it's not dolphins, it's aliens! lol
Very clever ending to Come Sail Away! Always loved that.
My favorite Styx song. Got to see them live in concert back in the day. It was loud.....and fun!! Good times!!Thanks for the reaction. Please do more songs from them!!
You should give Billy Thorpe's 'Children Of The Sun' a try. It's also about leaving the Earth behind to humanity's destiny.
jamal you will like children of the sun
That's an awesome song!
I always felt it was darker; but cheerier, that other versions...
I suggested that one too, maybe if enough folks mention it! Great song for headphones!
Dolphins😆😆😆
That, my friend, Jamel, is a synthesizer. 😉
Linda Koesters I mean, I guess that was kind of the goal, so mission accomplished lol
You need to hear "Cartman" from South Park sing this.
My immediate reaction 😂
I was getting ready to say the same thing! Watch the South Park version! 🤣🤣
It's honestly where I first heard it.
I was coming here to say the Eric Cartman version is better. LOL
I was waiting for the "puh" at the very start 😂
I got to see this live a couple of times but the best one was the Return to Paradise tour with both of my brothers. Hugging each other singing our brains out. Truly the best of times.
"I think of childhood friends and the dreams we had..." makes me cry now.
The song for this moment in our lives is “What’s Goin On” by Marvin Gaye. “Brother, Brother, Brother - There’s far too many of you dying”.
Check out the newest Teddy Swims cover...he keeps true to the original "soul" of Marvin...vs other's I've heard, most noticeably by Michael McDonald from YEARS AGO!
I'm going old school Styx with Lorelei and Madmoiselle.
Lady, Crystal Ball
Light Up
They're so good in concert, back in the good old days, miss those times.
Love Lorelei!!!🥰
I have "cruised" many a mile with "Lorelei" blasting through the open t-tops, LOL.
You should give a listen to “ Cheap Trick” / Surrender
Styx, Cheap Trick...a Chicago vibe, eh? Try Shoes....anything, like "Too Late"
Cheap Trick, Surrender. Yes, siiiiirrrr!
DREAM POLICE. DREAM POLICE. DREAM POLICE
A friend of mine I was in the A.F. with used to jam with these guys before they became known as Styx.....and ctually this song came out while I was in basic training......lots of memories there.....Lackland A.F.B. San Antonio Tx...Peace Out Little Brother......
We learned this song in music class, cool teacher, memories of school, must do the cars candy o, or good times rock n roll
Hi Jamel great Styx selection but they have so many ... Do Kansas sometime. Maybe song for America and point of no return , the wall , so many from them as well
Anything from the Leftoverture album.
Need to do Styx - Sweet Madame Blue
It is Suite Madame Blue, not sweet. :-)
I got to see these guys, twice back in 1978 & 1983, the first time was in a small arena and this song just echoed throught the building. The second time was in a slightly larger one for the "Kilroy was Here" tour.
I love it when you love a song. It just makes you so happy.
