- Xiaomi's new 12S Ultra has a crazy 1-inch main camera with Leica optics, but how does it compare against the Galaxy S22 Ultra or the Vivo X80 Pro? I took these cameras out to the streets of Hong Kong for a shootout!

QUESTION: I bought one of these phones, (12S Ultra) using MIUI 13.0.4 and the LECIA Branding is NOT on the outside of the phone. It is mentioned in the 2 Lecia Settings in SOFTWARE only, but Am confused as to WHY the "LECIA" Name was Not put on the phone Exterior As Per EVERY OTHER VIDEO & PICTURE OF THIS FOR MONTHS? Just confused as to- Why not.

The best camera comparison video I've ever watched! Such an intuitive sequence of points compared. And a huge point made regarding the flower, thanks!
Xiaomi took a brighter picture without using a night mode & fast without any blue, while Vivo had to do like 1 sec exposure.
Vivo's blue is due to sky enhancement feature within the camera. I wish Ben would've used Zeiss color science, that thing is crazy accurate to the scene. The colors are on point.

@@shebjjeje9720 if there's a moving object it will be blurred. I'm looking specifically for a camera which has not shutter lag so yeah 1 sec makes a big difference for some photos

Thank you. Love these real-world comparisons. In the future please incorporate a few more things people use, life selfie pictures in various conditions, group shots,etc to see how cameras focus on people since they all use software to identify faces,etc.

A tough competition in broad daylight but in night time. Vivo gets crazy HDR but Xiaomi gets the mood . That's a very appreciative phrase. I liked so much and the phrase really clicking in my head after the whole video. Where vivo in video gets more light and lighten up the image and video as well but with crazy HDR but Xiaomi is like a DSLR shot. Where it is like true to life with its 1" sensor 😍🌟love your comparison Ben . I first had Xiaomi phone mi 11 ultra amd damm it took completely different photos of Everything even if i made two pics of same thing , maybe vivo is bit to much hdr but damm the x70 pro plus 90% of time gives what i need in picture consistent quality/similar performance

Thanks for the hours you did put in,in this comparison! I have the Vivo X80pro (origin os) since three weeks...and I love it. Gets a little bit confused if there is too much light and the screen in bright conditions is awfully reflective...but I enjoy the nighttime shots so much.As I am childish: the super panorama function (360degrees) is sooo much fun.Video is ok, but gives me terrible results at 2x???? or shouldn't that be?

The Xiaomi 12s Ultra looks pretty solid all around. The only real hiccup being the limited 1080p front camera shooting, something I never use either. A few updates should hopefully tweak things even more. Nice to see someone who actually has it review and talk about it.
My man, this video is excellent 👍🏻 Xiaomi said that IMX 989 will also be able to use by the other smartphones manufacturers like vivo or others, I was wondering if ViVo could put this crazy 1inch CMOS on their smartphone cameras, with their photographs processing softwares may be able to produce a nicer performance than Xiaomi. I'm very impressed with the Xiaomi. I appreciate the less processed looked compared to Vivo. The Xiaomi more like old-school photo and not so over-processed with cramming in a bunch of dynamic range and over sharpening.
Not old school camera the DSLR camera color science and performance it's the closest experience to xiaomi 12 s ultra no need bright photos like daylights pics just get enough details from light sources in the dark not bright the whole image.
Pictures on xiaomi looks so real without warming it or make it so cool like vivo did.
That's y leica stands alone with their expensive camera among other DLSR cameras in the market now we clearly we can see their touch on 12 s ultra with color science and lenses
Video was in the middle between s22 ultra and vivo x80 pro not worst and not the best.
But improvements will come after software updates.
Performance of 12 s ultra is promising especially the phone came out of the box with this performance

Xiaomi: Good in capturing the scene in the center in an analogue-like manner.
Samsung: best tele-zoom and overall usability
Vivo: perfectly on point in HDR
Are all 3 phone perfect? No!
Are all 3 phones good? Absolutely!
Does any of the 3 phone has such a flaw that it is a no-go? No!
Can you become happy with these 3 phones? Yes, with each of the 3!

This video was in-depth and you're right, the software is still young on Xiaomi so maybe a few updates could fix a few things. Still though I greatly enjoyed this look. I have a Vivo X70 Pro Plus and the S22 Ultra and honestly, I like my Vivo more because of the images it can take and the HDR is pretty nuts. I still like my S22 u though because I think it's the most reliable phone on the market.

Amazing Versus Ben, amazing work. All of them so close, the Vivo HDR is amazing but i like more realistic night Shot on S22 ultra and 12s ultra. Personally the S22 ultra have the most equilibrate camera set

Hello I have it too. Are you using any specific GCAM? I will make a comparison with the Mi 12 Ultra.
the difference is in RAW mode where you take picture with raw photo you'll get everyone bit of pixel more on the 12 s ultra after you edited them in Lightroom .
But a camera upgrade like that is worth the upgrade. Getting more out of the other components won't make a bigger difference than having a great mobile camera. And there should be plenty of updates to improve the cameras consistency

I'd advise switching to "Leica authentic" on the Xiaomi to get less extreme contrast cause that could help with details and the image feeling more balanced in darker situations and closer to the other two. Those blacks can get really black and those whites seem overexposed sometimes, which may be improved by switching to the more toned down mode.

Especially with its daylight night mode pictures it adds more light to darkness like he sees light of sun before sun rises😂😂

Would have been great to see how the battery's held up against one another seeing as each had the same real world use together.
Loved this video and how in depth you went with each shot describing the scenarios and what you should be looking for. In my opinion I like Xiaomi in most scenarios for the realistic look but Vivo’s camera is solid too since it gives a pretty balanced shot and shows perspective of both the background and foreground while keeping a bit of separation. I would definitely choose that for a less realistic shot over Samsung since with Samsung photos I feel like they produce flat images and don’t provide depth. Then the software makes photo & video more eye catching with high contrasting(or saturating depending on the shot) and sharpness which I’m not a fan of because then everything looks too artificial.
I’m speaking as a viewer with no experience with each handset and just wanted to share my opinion, in the end it’s up to the user’s preference and what they want from their camera.

Hi Ben, the Vivo X80 Pro can switch between all the lenses while recording at 1080p. So next time you can also include that in your videos. Normally people shoot 1080p for their social media posts so it will be good that people know that there is still an option. Like for shooting for Instagram or something. And thanks for the videos. Really informative!

@@Cibran_ Videos posted on social media sites gets compressed to 1080p itself. Even when you shoot it or not. I don't know why Vivo can't switch between lenses at 4k recording (at least between main and wide angle lenses) but I wish they could update it in software updates. I bought this phone for photography and it does wonders in it.

The only way Vivo will announce an X80 Pro plus is to correct their blunder of moving the gimbal to another lens.

I'm stick with my 11u for now,the ability to vlog via rear display is the best feature, no others phone can beat.12u is good but without 4k front video recording and 10x optical zoom it's won't stand up against others flagships

Thanks for your hard work Ben. I really liked Xiaomi's main camera. But yeah, not the best software. Another really annoying thing that's a dealbreaker for me is the amount of ads throughout the OS. I'm not sure if that's still the case, but once I friend of mine asked me to see something on his Xiaomi and damn, first thing when I opened the web browser was a gigantic AD. And that spreads to all third party apps as well. I'm kinda used to it as this is absolutely normal here in mainland China (even when turning on my Chinese Smart TV there's ADS everywhere). That's why I'm an iPhone user, at least iOS is a lot cleaner.
I will stick with Xiaomi mi 11 ultra thanks 🙏.. great review mate

The x80pro+ will likely be released in a few months with camera upgrades over the x80pro and the snapdragon 8 gen 1+. If you aren't in a rush, you could wait a few months to see how that one compares
Vivo's V1 chip is unbeatable at night. Jaw dropping result at low light - especially the dynamic range. Incredible!
Had hopes from 12 Ultra but other than 1" sensor, seems pretty much like every other flagship camera phone. Am excited for it but surely not as revolutionary as Mi 11 Ultra. Missing the second screen :((
yes the vivo takes good pictures but they seem to be fake sometimes the colors are not real but the xiaomi 12s ultra is a photography beast i saw it in action the night mode is the best there is

@@ingridkollmer6102 xiaomi phone it's a photography camera in all aspects it doesn't try to make eye pleasing or social media pics it stands alone with that touch of leica and their color science they make the pic always looks like it's a DSLR pic not just pic rich of details and sharpness but you can feel it in 12 s ultra to be honest i felt every picture even in night xiaomi sensor and leica optics just capture enough lights and don't try make it as a day light photo we don't need to see everything bright in photos there is some dark areas in the picture we need to see it dark.
Even in zoom xiaomi with 5x zoom grabbed more details than s 22 ultra with 10x zoom and we saw that in night pictures where s22 ultra failed.
To be honest xiaomi this time nailed with a big win in photography and was in the middle in terms of video.
We shouldn't forget phones out of the box need more updates but what we saw in this comparison xiaomi is a solid camera out of the box without any updates i'm sure it will improve to not let them say anything about 12 s ultra camera

Did the same bro, but got the 256gb instead. The $100 difference I'll put into a 4tb drive. I had the 512gb Mi 11 Ultra and the memory got full after a year, literally thousands of pics and videos so it's absolutely plenty of memory. The green looks interesting but the black with all it's different textures just looks too fresh.

I disagree with your hdr lowlight. It looks so unreal. Xaomis goal is to capture realistically so they did it well. And every shot should be adjusted for correct exposure. I don't like people comparing the camera in full auto. I dont think anyone serious enough to analyze the photos like this should not be shooting fully auto. Tap hold the screen and slide your exposure. Phones still don't know what you want out of the photo.

I really wish both these phones sold here in the US! And I would almost definitely be buying the Vivo, it's night shots are amazing! I just wish they had put the periscope lense in the camera circle rather than leaving it looking like an afterthought
