Yeah
I think the British insist on maintaining their composure in public and handling conflict in private. As an American, I'd walk out right then and there for sure. People already saw what happened, so nothing can be hidden at this point anyway.

@@gurll8784 Rachel could litterly stand just breath air and people would say she ruins everything for Ross.
@@GoldenRose116 Well, she went to the wedding to RUIN it. Let's be honest here... that was her purpose. To go to the wedding and tell ross she loved him! And even if she didn't end up telling him, her sudden and unexpected appearance led to Ross's mistake, so yes, it was clearly Rachel's fault.
And yes, Rachel has sabotaged pretty much every relationship ross ever had. She convinced bonnie to shave her head so that ross wouldn't date her, she lied to ross about girls not wanting sex so that ross wouldn't sleep with julie and so on.
I don't hate Rachel. In fact, I love her but facts are facts. People don't blame her for no reason.
Emily still married him, left everything behind, decided to move to America with Ross to start a family & Ross in return couldn't sacrifice some bits for the sake of marriage. It's universal truth that compromise is the key to marriage. Ross couldn't really move past Rachel, made a blunder & how couldn't he do something in return?
Emily deserved whatever she asked for as a wife. And it would have been better had she broken off the wedding at the first place when Ross uttered Rachel's name.
Marrying in a haste was the biggest mistake here.

Great acting from all of them too.
I remember watching this when it first aired, back in May of 1998. One of the most classic moments in modern television.
For those who don't know, the season ended at 1:05, just after the registrar asked, "Shall I go on?" (The video here has been edited to include the beginning of the next season, when Emily tells him to continue.) As soon as it ended, a friend of mine called me up and exclaimed, "No WAY! They CANNOT leave us hanging like that!" LOL!
Haha very interesting I was 2 years old back then 😅
Yes, season 4 ended at 1:05 as you said. But no, this youtube video is not edited. Season 5 began by repeating the end-scene of season 4.
Really! OMG! I worked 4pm to midnight back then, so I never saw this show. I am just now watching it all for the first time.
What a cliff hanger! 🙀
Thx for that info.

Wish i was born by 98 to see d iconic moment...🥰😅
It was my junior year of high school when this aired. I never watched it myself, but I knew all about this moment because EVERY GIRL IN EVERY CLASS WAS TALKING ABOUT THIS SCENE NON STOP for a solid WEEK after it aired. It's still amazing how much of a grip this show had on society back in its day.
2:33 Best line of the episode.
his mom's comment after the wedding ceremony was the ONLY time she acknowledged a mistake made by her son, all the other times it was always Monica...Monica...Monica...the poor girl could not catch a break with her mom...
1:24 Ross's withering glance is priceless. What a terrific actor Schwimmer is.
Probably this is the reason now in weddings people only say “I do” instead of repeating the names in case of mistakes... XD

@CymricEuphoricx no, they're joking. Some ceremonies they say the name, some they dont-same as it's been forever.
everything emily did was justifiable. Emily didnt deserve this. Ross used emily to see if he had been able to get over rachel or not. But aha.. emily gets all the hate
No.... Emily turned into a control freak who wanted ross to cut people out of his life, move out his apartment and sell his furniture. Then, had the audacity to call ross months later the night before she was getting married again.
Nothing is ever Rosses fault.

David Schwimmer's acting is so good here. When he uttered the name "Rachel," it really made me feel he said the name accidentally (not acting at all).
So subconsciously he's still love with Rachel right?
Obviously he was imagining marrying her the whole time
Ross had a fantasy of marrying Rachel since like high school. Maybe when he married his first wife, she was out of sight, out of mind but when he married Emily, it was what like less than a year after they had dated for like a year & they were very much still in love so......yes lol.

The way Emily places that ring on Ross🤣😂😂😂 and rose whimpers in pain
I understand that this was very hurtful for Emily but I can't help but appreciate the brilliant writing of this. I mean, this can easily be one of those "well remembered" scenes on tv.
One of the reasons it's well remembered is because after the priest said "Shall I go on?" we had to wait six months to find out what happened next!
Honestly I love Emily, her voice so sweet
Ross obviously mess up but Emily should have put this wedding on pause as soon as he said that, the priest even asked if he should go on. They should have at least had a private talk *immediately* to sort everything out.
I know that would be really awkward with everyone waiting in the pews but you wanna know what even more awkward? Marrying the wrong person and then getting divorced.
The registrar said "take thee, Emily" literally 1 and half seconds before! I know Rachel's a huge part of Ross's life but... how does he make that catastrophic error?
Such a classic scene.
I couldn't understand that either.

The way the reverend scratched his head while telling 'you can kiss the bride' (with a silent 'meh') is pure art...🤪🤪

Phoebe's reaction while on the phone was priceless. 😂
Ross exemplifies the obnoxious habit of grinning and laughing his ass off when he's screwed up in hopes that it'll "lighten the mood". No, it just makes everyone want to knock your teeth in.
What an iconic moment!
I don't know why but, I've always wanted to watch Ross and Carol's wedding, even though they get divorced later, it is the only marriage of Ross that lasts for more than a few moments.
More like lasts for more than a DAY 😂😂😂
Can I just add because Judy said when Emily Married Ross “ this is worse then when he married the lesbian “ . I literally am wondering what she would have said.
This is one of the most hilarious moment of all time 🤣🤣🤣🤣
“HAPPY TO” always gets me!!😂😂
This is really unfair to Emily. This scene shows Ross's immaturity. It is really surprising that he behaved this way considering he is the most rational person among the group. No one has a right to insult a girl like this. And this is the recurring theme in latter seasons. One always keeps changing partners. All the rationality is gone. Ross and Rachel don't come together even they have a baby together. Really surprising!! It is like each one just thinks selfishly
He was not immature. He was still in love with Rachel. His rational brain was trying to deny it. His emotional brain, knew better.

This scene just proves to illustrate how crucial it is to always follow your heart and live your life authentically. You can lie to yourself and others but the truth ALWAYS outs. Just save yourself and others the pain and BE HONEST FROM THE START.
After all this people call Emily a bitch
Your future husband taking his ex's name during your wedding, you see your husband going to honeymoon with his ex again etc
Emily's reaction was so much justified and she had all rights after this to stop Ross from meeting Rachel
True. But she should have called off the wedding
She's not a bitch for this, but she was pretty unlikable in general. Probably because I was always rooting for ross and Rachel, but I really didn't like Emily or Julie at all.
@@Andrea1542 then that's your problem. How does that make her unlikable?
If I were Emily, I would have ended the ceremony right after Ross said Rachel's name. It would have been humiliating, but I would have thought that maybe Ross wasn't ready and I certainly wouldn't want to be married under those circumstances.
Also, Monica looks amazing.
I really doubt you would have though .Easier said than done.
@@manyu090 I think at the very least, the two of you go off into a vestry (possibly with the priest) and talk it through before continuing. Having had that conversation, if you think he still has feelings for Rachel, you call it off and send Ross (or the priest) back out to make the announcement.
Omg this was amazing!!!!!
Ross and Rachel are forever ❤️❤️ nobody can replace them❤️❤️
I remember the first time I saw this scene and was so sad for Rachel because Ross was getting married to Emily and I thought there was no hope. But when Ross said Rachel instead of Emily I was so surprised but relieved at the same time because it just brought me some hope.
If I were Emily, I would have just accepted that he was in love with Rachel. And walked away from the situation altogether. At least she found out how he really felt about Rachel ahead of time. You just got to know when to cut your losses. It may hurt initially, but you will be alright.
