I have full dentures now during the last 20 years and no bone shrinkage. I got them at 40 years, when my teeth started to make problems and i needed some bridges and crowns. But there was no negative effect on the bone. The dentist noticed, that my bone was extremely good.
I think, most people get dentures too late, when the bone is already affected by bad teeth or paradontosis/ receding gum. Then there will be problems in the future. Dentists are telling horror stories especialy about lower dentures, that you will need adhesives for the rest of your life. I used adhesives only the first year and after this i never used adhesives.
My idea is, that dentists try to earn money as long as possible with expensive crown- and bridge-work and the last cry, the implants.
In earlier times it was common sense, to get all teeth replaced with dentures at the age of 35 to 45. Usually the step was taken, when the teeth started to make problems.
So.... Dentures, good done, are not the end of the world. They are a well prooven replacement of natural teeth. Of course natural teeth are the best, but if the time is come to leave them, one should leave them.
it is all psychological gimmick that these people do to make money
my mother also had full denture tht lasted for eternity,,means that she put it at..age 40 in brazil and was buried with it,at age 82 she could speak very well and looked like she had tooth of her own..bone never sank
Look at digital dentures.
I had my extractions in February. I was one of those people who waited too long. There was infection that spread to bone. So I have had some complications. My younger brother is 49 he just found out all of his top teeth. Need too be pulled and his bone health is good. I will it admit the problems I have. I used too scare him enough. Too not wait on having pulled.
Would be nice if it was more affordable...the price of implants are ridiculously high. I honestly don't understand how they think the average person can afford them?
They don't care smh
They try to sell you on paying $60,000 off over time. Yeah, sign me up. *Note the sarcasm.
You can have it all done for 25 k in Las Vegas. Or cross the border and have an all on 6 for 17 k.
@@jakebarrett2339 can you give any names, address and telephone numbers?
They don't care
If Implants are such a superior option for overall dental health then they should be covered by insurance
Dang Right!!!!
Most importantly, take care of the Elderly!!!!
👏👏👏👏
Can't afford dentures at all. I had fluorosis from the fluoride in the water. The water took my teeth. Horrible years of pain. They should pay for dentures because of it.
Fluoride causes 11 known diseases. Low IQ, autism, fluorosis and brittle bones. They used it in Nazi prison camps to make people docile and apathetic. I guess that's why the USA has become a dumping ground for processed food and chemicals that will eventually kill us. No one thinks about that.
Other countries do not allow these chemicals. Corporations make ours full of chemicals while corporations make real food for other countries.
We used to fight. Become rebels when our government wasn't protecting us. No one cares.
Insurance companies should cover it more often. That $40,000,000 that now wear dentures are getting implants is not happening. Kids can't even see dentist for cleanings. There areas of the country where there is no dentist near them. You want add more people and surgery to improve things. Replacement of teeth we have something to replace them dentures. Improving both comfort and function and making them affordable. Needs to be the priority.
I gor dentures about four months ago people tell me I am fortunate to have such beautiful teeth haha.has taken me awhile to get used to them still trying.
This is why I’d get either removable dentures or permanent dentures
My grandmother had dentures from she was young until she died when she was 86. I never heard she complained about any boneloss.
Is a 36 year old unfortunately because of my battle with depression I neglected my teeth and unfortunately my remaining top 8 teeth have to be extracted I cannot afford to have the teeth I'm missing replaced veneers or stuff like that so I'm forced to remove my remaining teeth so that I can have dentures on my top teeth I'm glad you put this video out I'm a little bit freaked out about the bone shrinkage I'm a musician I'm not a full-blown singer I'm a guitarist finally but I do sing so my concern for that is a little high
My mom had dentures for over 40 years with no issues. I have had dentures for a year. No issues. I lost my teeth due to bone loss. Implants are just a bit to pricey for me . We make an average living and have many bilks to pay. Also I have known several people who have had failed implants and had them removed. I also know you cant get them after cancer treatments and my teeth were bad due to bone loss anyway so alot pf people may need bone graphs which is extra $$$$$$. I’ll stick with my conventional dentures until i become a millionaire and actually afford it. I know dentures are not always perfect but its better then not having teeth and if you get use to them its great. Mine feel better then my wiggly teeth. It was sad too. I kept my teeth so clean and healthy but it didnt matter. I think Dennis should do a sliding fee based on your income if you’re a millionaire you pay a higher price if you’re poor you pay less and that would equal things out
Good luck with that last idea.
Dentures are all right. Implants don't always work good, can cause health issues, can be rejected by your body, or badly placed.
But we aren't living in a socialist economy, and dentists have to make a living. The education and setting up a practice is so expensive.
YESSS!👏👏👏
@@DoubleDogDare54 it should be how it is.
But....the bones in my mouth are already degenerating...so what do I have to lose?
I'm 29.
I did not know that about the bone shrinkage. Thanks for sharing this information.
Most welcome. Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment. X
What about periimplantitis and other problems that implants can cause.
I paid @$4000 for my dentures. The lower have never fit in my mouth and they don't mesh. I no longer can pay that amount of money. To be honest I would rather just flush the money down the toilet. My bottom denture makes me look like a giant chipmunk 🐿
Omg I'm panicking, the dentist told me dentures don't effect being able to get implants later on noooo 😞
Sorry but the music is too loud/distracting .
Best way if you don’t have a lot of money. Regular denture on top and 2 full-size implants for snap in over dentures on bottom. The bottom moves a lot and the top usually stays in well. 😊
I can't tell what is bone on an Xray.
I’m getting dentures better then real bad teeth
Exactly
Me too don't feel bad.
I've had mine for over 6 years, for about 5 years I've had and still having muscle spasm in my jaw, just look out for that, can get pretty painful
Love honesty
Please constreate on making a nice Cushing fit for dentures
The main problem with traditional dentures is they don't fatten a dentist's bottom line nearly as much as implant$ do. So dentists push implant$.
What really needs doing is to dramatically reduce the cost of implant$ so people can actually afford them, not price them as a luxury like plastic surgery. These days dentists ARE more like plastic surgeons. The idea dentists now advertise is looks and a brilliant smile, whatever the cost. They don't sell health any longer - it is all about vanity. Just like plastic surgeons
Getting dental care - even routine dental care - is something people can no longer afford. I could get a facelift and butt tuck for less than what dentists demand for dental care.
Thanks for commenting. Basic dental care - examinations, cleaning and simple restorations - are needed to keep the mouth healthy and pain-free. Your comments are correct - teeth replacement with dental implants and dental cosmetic is very elective. These procedures are costly and some would consider unnecessary. The value for this treatment its very personal and should only be considered with all options, risks and clear outcomes.
Screw in my implant rusted in my gum, gave me an abscess
@@advanceddentalartistryperth Just like a facelift and a butt tuck. Looks over the health of the people coming to you for treatment.
Thank God you are a dentist and not a cardiologist. Just think of how many people would die if cardiologists had the same ethical standards you do.
Yes, exactly. I was held captive for over a decade with no access to any dental care, even toothpaste. When abscesses became too painful, I just pulled the teeth because the pain was excruciating. As a result i am 37 years old with about half my original teeth and they all need to be pulled. I have been to dentists to begin fixing it but estimates for implants were more than my car. I have a 1 year old daughter, I can not afford it. Now, it is getting harder to speak and eat and I don't know what to do. Employers assume on meth or crack because of my teeth. It is not really a luxury for me, it is a necessity. Might just have to rob a bank to eat solid foods one day. Sad.
@@thagodwecreate5179 I'm so sorry to hear that, I have dentinogenisis imperfecta, a lovely condition that affects tooth development resulting in the meth mouth look. I get angry at how much implants cost, I live in Scotland and I will get dentures on NHS but I worry how they'll look, you can get implants on NHS but only in extreme cases, they fob us off with dentures, I literally have felt as low as you can, as in I wanted to just die, I have cried and cried over it. There's no doubt 💯 these orthodontists and dentists profit from sick, poor souls. I'm a believer in karma, I believe there's a special place of hell for people who take advantage of the poorly and needy, they'll be down there with lawyers 😉
I was never told about the bone loss. 🙏
This would be great if only affordable:/
Then you get dentures like me and 40.000.000 other people in this country. Do I wish they were more affordable for people that want them. Of course unfortunately I am not in charge. I already had lots of trouble with infection. The last thing I want is too invite more sources of infection in my mouth.
I have no money sir, just had 13 teeth remove 2 wks ago. its terrible and horrible. i am now instantly old, and now know, its all over for me. i cant eat, taste and so feel done!! I cant afford the option, its the best it can be sir now for me! need to learn to accept!
I am getting dentures. Was I sad to lose my teeth. Of course I am sad. Will it probably age me sure. Is my or your life over of course not. We all have things happen that are overwhelming. Losing your teeth is one of them. You are still pretty and can be happy with dentures.
Once the technology improved - around 1980 - implants should have been made the standard of care. Calling them "elective" is exactly the kind of Capitalist dodge that eventually gets you dragged out into the public square. I hope that day comes swiftly.
What I'm saying is that bone loss is YOUR fault. 100% your fault. But go ahead and blame the poor for their own situation.
Implants are not for everyone. And by that, I mean, there are complications for a lot of patients.

I had orthodontics and it messed up my face, my teeth extruded from the jaw bones and now my lower third of my face looks longer. I’m so desperate to look pretty again I’m considering yanking them and getting implants that allow me to bite more deeply. Is this crazy? My teeth are in good condition but the toll this has taken on my self esteem is massive. Would there be any other way to get my bite to be deeper? Maybe shaving down my molars? I think I need 4-6 mm of correction. Please help! I’m willing to travel if there’s a solution and money isn’t a problem at all.
@Boca Riley yeah since I've posted this (in a very distressed time!) I've realized I may need jaw surgery. I also talked to Adrian at Advanced Dental Artistry and he was really helpful.
CRAZY.THAT MUCH .WHICH COUNTRY IS THIS? USA? IN SINGAPORE AND BRAZIL IT IS MUCH CHEAPER
I know this is an old video, but how long after extractions does it take for bone loss? I’m considering dentures right now, but already knew about bone loss. I want the denture snap ins, but we are in the middle of house hunting and can’t take any loans out until that’s done. I was thinking of getting the dentures now and then getting the denture implants within the next year or two.
Bone loss starts right after extractions, you typically lose a big percentage of bone within the first year then it starts going away more slowly
@@floydcage2494 yeah I researched it more and decided dentures would be a horrible route to go as a 33 year old
@@lavenderandchaos more people wear dentures than you may think, but one downside that everyone(especially young people) should know is the fact that it can cause you to lose jaw bone faster and as a result, age you a lot. The best bet would be implants as the aging and facial collapse isn't as extreme. Try saving as much of your natural teeth as you can, I really feel for people who loses theirs due to unfortunate circumstances

I already wear full dentures. The same ones for the last twenty years or so, had them done for me when I lived in Spain. No talk of qualities or anything. Thinking it's time to get a new set (I live in the USA now), my question is about the qualities of full dentures. When I look at pricing, I see some dentists list 3 different qualities and three different prices starting with BASIC and going to PREMIUM. Are the cheap ones, without guarantees, etc, garbage??
Hi Bardos! Great question. Offering a different level of denture or veneer for example is certainly something we would not offer at our practice. We believe in giving people the best treatment possible and that is none negotiable as far as we are concerned. In terms of those differences we imagine that the higher end would be a more customized denture. More time will be spent producing it, it will probably be made with a higher quality material and more effort will go into making sure it fits properly. The cheaper end is possibly an 'off the shelf' product which is slightly modified to fit. You really need to do your research and find a dentist, prosthesist or lab that make high quality full customized dentures to make sure the fit, aesthetics, function and phonetics are on point. We hope this helps! :-)
thx
Thanks for that I had cancer an took care of mine but due to the extent of cancer have a lil bone loss n due to radiation n more teeth becoming sad I went to dentist n he said I cannot get implants I was so against dentures but so many I know telling me to go dentures would love to know if u have dentures how long it took for the initial pull of all yo teeth for I to get them
6 to 8 weeks ,for healing of gums and then mold taken and teeth made.
The only time you can get implants is if you have bone graft but it's to damn pricey ..your could go abroad to get it done cheeper but its risky since horror stories can happen
Let's say the dentists found a cyst in my gum line and had to pull my top teeth. Aside from not taking care of the other ones I lost all of them and it has been horrible. I think I want implants but the cost is too great. How much would it cost with the teeth already pulled?
Traditional implants cost £1000+ each, per tooth. Or if you have them all pulled you can get an AllOnFour implant system but that costs £5000+ for lower arch or £7000+ for an upper arch, I have dentinogenisis imperfecta, I know this info because I myself need an upper arch. It is pricey, I will need dentures soon but I am saving to get implants
@@teelesynclair5902 yeah I guess that will be my thing to save for. It truly sucks walking around and talking to people. Perhaps just something cheap for aesthetics for now. Life is shit.
@@teelesynclair5902 my problem is I am a heavy smoker but with my new job we are not allowed to so that helps me cur down. 12 hour shifts.. but the other problem is on my off days... @@karsaorlong666 I can relate to the not smiling, I have 1 broken tooth left at the front upper jaw, it looks awful, like a sh!ty broken old tombstone or a Deliverance extra, tbh I think in our case a basic denture is better than what we have, I get so mad at the price of implants, its not a flaming luxury it's necessary for us to function, I get terrified of people seeing them, I've heard of snap on smiles, like thin plastic veneers to cover problem teeth but beware I've seen some unfortunate results from ones people buy off Amazon, I think you get ones made to measure, they're no good for me as I literally have 1 broken tooth up top. I really need to get it pulled as I get gum boil above tooth I have to drain, its bleeding foul. Its sad how people, well idiots judge others for less than immaculate teeth.
