I’m one year in. Finally got my permanent dentures and the first week was disheartening due to sores. Went in and had them adjusted and wow what a difference. Yesterday was a landmark day as I was actually able to eat ribs like normal. 😋it does get better but it’s a learning experience.

  • @45valk

Last July 13 I had all my teeth extracted. This story is definitely a bitter sweet thing. The first month was an experience to say the least, can’t eat a damn thing. I tried the blender thing with my normal food, “disgusting”. The learning to eat with your immediate dentures was different. I suggest watching as many utube videos as you can on the subject, they’re life saving. Fast forward to 4 months time lapse, I’m eating much more but had to completely change my diet to a lot of protein supplements. Now 9 months along I prepare my weekly meals and can eat pretty much what I want but stayed on my healthier diet. Moral of the story is, it gets better and NO MORE toothaches. 😉 Don’t give up!, it gets better. Oh btw, because of dentures and my choice of food, I’ve lost 90 pounds and feel terrific. 🙂

My teeth were terrible, weak as anything, lots of fillings, root fillings etc. etc., and unbearable pain that cannot be stopped by medications. Complete horror. My appearance to others was completely embarassing to me, and eating foods I liked was impossible, laughing with hand over mouth and all the other situations. I didn't want to look like a homeless person or a drunk, so I was happy to go through with injections, extractions etc., and I felt very happy to get rid of my teeth...I did it......Mind you, I didn't brag about it because there is a stigma attached to it...but to me it was no more agonizing, mind blowing pain of a toothache, plus the fact of being able to eat anything.

The key is to do your homework. Find a dentist you trust. Through referrals and reading online reviews. Had all upper teeth removed under sedation. I had the most perfect experience. No pain, no swelling and a fairly quick healing. The honesty of my dentist made it clear that this would be a long haul. After four months I got my temporary partial. Over the next couple of weeks I had one adjustment. After that I have been on cloud nine. I am now waiting to start my implants.. I was told on one of my first visits that the entire process would take close to a year. I personally couldn't be happier with how the whole thing is working out. I'm 73 years old and I have probably smiled more in the last three months than I have in many, many years. Take your time and find a dentist you have faith in.

IMy dentist wants me to go that way, and I have two dental insurances she said she’ll use. However, what’s the point in getting more root canals and crowns on teeth that already had them, and they just keep going. The amount of money I’ve spent on repeated procedures and now looking at a year or more to get it done, I’m seriously thinking of going to Clear Choice and getting the implants in, teeth pulled, temporaries for a year and then the final par. The dentures first, like my two or 3 sets of Valplast, I could have done the all on 4 for as much as I’ve spent. I do have a friend who took his wife there and he said it’s the best thing they have ever done. Very happy. Not all thos dentist visits for a year…. I would be using the money I’ve saved to buy a house, but at 73, that dream is going further away.

I got dentures in the early 2000s that were so bad I never could wear them. They were poorly made but I didn't think I could go back to have them fixed. U had a complete upper and partial lower. My husband got sick and I couldn't afford to get any work done to the lowers because I needed to stay home and care for him and our autistic child. My self esteem was horrible, but I secretly loved having to wear a mask during covid. I felt so much better about myself and people treated my so much better. My husband passed in 2020, and I was able to sell some property last year and finally last week I was able to get a well made, full set of dentures. I an only 4 days out and was getting a bit depressed about how difficult it was to adapt at first to talking and eating, but I feel much more confident that it will get easier and more natural as tome goes on. It was discovering denture wearer UA-cam videos that got me the courage to call a dentist and start my denture journey.
I had crooked teeth my whole life which lead to periodontal disease. I was embarrassed and tired of living life with an ugly smile yet I wasn’t an ugly person.
I told the dentist in my initial visit I wanted dentures, he tried to talk me into just the tops. I kept to my plan and a few weeks later he removed all 26 teeth. No sedation.
The removal day was my biggest fear, yet it was basically nothing I should have worried so much about. The numbing shots were not bad at all and after that I didn’t feel anything just heard him removing my teeth. He did the tops first then told me he was moving on to the bottom. I was shocked that he was done so fast! I had a ride home and glad I did cause I was drowsy to say the least. I remember craving and drinking tons of water the reminder of that day. I think your body just knows what is best for healing itself. I had very little pain and no issues with healing. My immediate dentures fit well, speaking some words took a few weeks but all in all it was thee best decision of my life. It’s been a little over a year and I couldn’t or wouldn’t have done this without all of these wonderful bold people on UA-cam sharing their experiences.
One huge thing that I’ve found for helping my lower dentures fit better was GUM GUARD. It’s a putty that you fit into your plate then it forms to it. It lasts for months possibly a year or more not sure.
    Go to GUMGUARD.COM to purchase.
    About $35 shipping included.
I received enough for 2 applications for my lower denture only. Top is fine with a little adhesive.
Also, I’ve found that SECURE adhesive found on Amazon is thee best over all others.
    I hope this helps someone!!

It's because of wonderful ppl like you and everyone leaving thier comments and advice, that is helping me muster up the courage to get dentures. I am so scared but I've been living with this embarrassment for too many years. Like you, I can't smile like I did when I had beautiful straight white teeth. A couple of weeks ago I had a horrific tooth pain that developed a terrible infection. I had no choice but to go to a local dentist office. The dentist had no bedside manners whatsoever. He made me feel even worse about myself by not even saying anything just staring at me as I sat there trying to explain why my teeth looked so bad and how embarrassed I was. Anyways he prescribed me some antibiotics so that I could get the tooth extracted. That time has passed and I've decided that I'm going to find another dental office to get the entire procedure done and over with. I'm just scared and embarrassed to open my mouth to a dentist. Even to the point that I am looking for a dentist office outside of my area because I'm afraid that a dental hygienist might know me in my local town. 🫤
thank you so much for this video and for those of you that have left your questions and comments on this video... It's motivating and reassuring 🙏☺️

@@work4doughI have been reading and watching everything I can about dentures and implants for years now and have never actually commented on anything but your comment got to me. That is exactly how I felt about being so embarrassed I won't even go to a dentist in my area. My teeth are bitter sweet because I got lucky enough that my front teeth look normal. I broke my jaw when I was 18 and it cracked a few teeth and I had to have my jaws wired shut and my jaw healed with my bite not right and so none of my back teeth lined up and with no insurance for the first 15 years of being an adult as the cracked ones got bad the option was always $2k for root canal and crown or $65 to have it pulled... But because it was easy to hide I let it get so bad that then I was afraid to go to a dentist and one horrific experience at one dentist put me off for another 4 years but I have finally saved enough to get the implants and should have them in less than a month and reading these comments are the only thing keeping me going these days. Thank you

I just had all of my teeth removed three weeks ago. I found a wonderful oral surgeon who was very calm, gentle and who had lots of positive view that he was the best. I have had horrible experienced previous-my jaw was almost broken by one with my wisdom tooth and another removed two that screwed it up that this surgeon fix. I also had to have my inner jaw shaved off for my dentures fit. Best experience ever had for my dentistry. I have anxiety disorder and suffer from seizures. No issues despite having seizure during procedure. My surgeon comfort me during the procedure (I was not fully knocked out) but no pain, just pressure when filling my jaw.
Not serious pain until 3 day but the pain meds help and I did not suffer.
My gums healing quickly and I am going to start to get my dentures at the end of Feb. I am on a soft food and liquid diet which is worth how great I feel now. My sinus were what hurt more than my gums-I have had constant severe sinus issue-it is now all clear. No more pressure not pain there. So grateful.
I highly recommend getting it done. Do your research and look for a surgeon who has experience with elderly, disabled and folks who have severe dental issues.

I had to get my blood pressure under control first, so I only had a few teeth pulled at a time. Finally got all of them out, then there was the wax impressions, then another 6 weeks to get the actual dentures. It was very draining physically & mentally. But, I do love my new smile. The gum pain is nothing compared to 10 years of fighting to keep my natural teeth. Also, I got a new dentist that agreed with me that I needed dentures & to not waste anymore time or money. 😁

I would say that he was very lucky to have had a good dentist/surgeon. He said a dentist pulled his teeth? I had a surgery to take all the teeth I had left. I was under general anesthesia. The surgeon left me in such a mess. I had an terrible time afterwards. So much pain and discomfort. I wasn’t able to eat and when I finally just to start eating it wasn’t much as you might imagine. I lost 17lbs. That wasn’t all bad but I didn’t really need to lose that much. He did have me return for four follow up visits. He kept telling me that I was doing great. However I could tell that I wasn’t. I tried to get a visit with the referring dentist but he didn’t want me to come see him for six months. So I had a friend that referred me to a surgeon that they liked. He told me that there was no way I was going to be able to get dentures with in the shape I was in. He told me that even if I could find a dentist to make dentures for me that I would not be able to wear them because they would not be able to stay in and I would be sore because of all the high and low lateral in and out spots that I wouldn’t want to if I could so I wouldn’t even try. He said the only way that I do would be to have another surgery and open up everything. He said the correct term for it but basically grind and level up as best he could then sew it up then in two to three months I could hopefully get dentures. I went back to the original surgeon and just flat told him what the other surgeon said after he told me that he thought I was good to go. He didn’t like that of course but said he could do it right now and it would only take ten minutes. I told him I was scared to have him do it so that’s how we left it since he said that he could do it right now or not at he won’t have time if was to come back. That’s the point I’m at now. I go back to my new dentist for dentures to start the process hopefully.

I have had Dentures for 6 years. I got the Ultimates. They are beautiful. I couldn't wear them for the first 5 years due to having to use SO much adhesive because I was born with a cleft pallet and lip, which made the Dentures very hard to keep in with adhesive. About 10 months ago, I ordered DenSureFit. It was a life changer! I can now wear my Dentures without any adhesive!! I am SO happy!! 😁
    P.S. your teeth look great!

Yes, it was. I was SO happy when I learned about DenSureFit. I probably sound like a commercial for it, but..I am literally blown away at how well my Dentures fit now..and I don't have to use ANY Adhesive. I hated that stuff! I was literally having to use like half a tube just to try and get my Dentures to stay in. Now, I just pop them in and go! It was a real game changer! 😊

Yes, first appointment they did an impression of my upper and lower teeth. Now, I was born with a cleft pallet and lip, so my upper gum line was very uneven..even after 6 years of braces and a ton of root canals and crowns. So I was really shocked when the temporary Dentures were first put in and for the first time ever, my top gum line was perfect! But..the teeth looked big to me. So, I told the Dentist that I wanted smaller teeth, but made for an adult. So, I went with the Ultimates because they are made differently than all the other styles. They were expensive ($5,000)..but, I figured if I was going to do it, I may as well get the top of the line!! After I got the permanent Dentures, they were much smaller and I picked the whitest shade they had! I love them!! 😊

Hi guys I had top and bottom dentures fitted2 years ago and it was the best thing I had done. My bottom denture was the worst to get used to the soreness was quite a pain so I cut strips of foam 1mmx5mm and glued it in ,wow what a difference they stayed glued in better aswell it cushioned the denture as I bit and chewed and no more soreness. My top set I cut the roof of the denture out so my tongue touched the roof of my mouth and it felt quite natural and didn't make me feel I had a mouth full of plastic and I can taste my food better. So 2years in I can eat almost anything and love the look of my new teeth .it just takes time to get used to them .I also used a fine grade sand paper and shaped the gums to suite the shape of my mouth ,dont be scared to experiment but don't go to far .with the upmost respect for dentist's they dont ware dentures and dont always understand they told me not to cut the roof off my denture out because it wouldn't suction in they never did anyway so I just glue them in .

❤Things I learned & wish I’d known : Not all dentists offer sedation for tooth extractions, ask ahead. If I could have a do over, would definitely have preferred to have been totally sedated for so many teeth removed (am the hard to numb up type). - Not All recommend/offer, temporary dentures. Some feel you heal better without. Research pros & cons. - You have approximately 1 year before some bone loss happens, so decide ahead IF you want to go snap on or implants for better results. Not all people ARE good candidates for that procedure, such as ; smoking, uncontrolled diabetes, certain meds, bone density, will you maintain it/hygiene. Research most qualified to do the implants, top reason for failure lack of training! Research videos on this to educate yourself what to look for/ask, pros & cons. - For those of us prone toward inflammation, recovery can be rougher (me), to help, flexible ice packs (I rotate out 3), are a Godsend, along with meds to keep ahead of the pain. - A food processor will be your best friend/ purée your food! Great soft foods like yogurt, applesauce, baby food, ice cream, nutritional drinks like Boost Etc. - For me first 3 days were rough, week & 1/2 much better, can carefully chew soft texture food as tolerated. - Like the fella in the video said, watching comedies on tv, great music all help to keep us uplifted during recuperation time. Will also wear face mask in public until I get some teeth to feel less self conscious - Not all dentures are equal, materials matter, some stain and gather plaque, break. Some stronger, more realistic in appearance. Again research/ask questions 😊 Hope this helps someone ❤️

Meeee too..I'm doing immediate dentures upper in 12 days...my teeth were my life my biggest fear was chipping a front tooth..well like 10 yrs ago they just started deteriorating and crumbling..I'd eat something and another piece would break...went to dentist made a new smile plan..$21,000 they wanted (and i had some coverage) to cap and veneer ..I was lower income at the time and that was sooooo dedevastating to me..the cost.. i was already depressed and that sent me over cause my teeth were getting bad..who's smiling when their teeth are a mess..not me..anyways point being I was kinda glad when masks came out lol...I barely left/leave house. .. figured i should use some of that time to make a plan..so going with immediate dentures upper..and partial lower..lower work is done... now I just wait 12 more days and go extract and new smile...excited but nervous that they'll look odd to me..myself..but I'm sure I'll get use to it!

@leesa-xx5mp yea you'll get used to it I did..I didn't like them at first but now it's way better than what they where .that's funny cuz around covid I took advantage of the Mandatory mask wearing. Nobody really new at my job that my bridge was gone so yea I struggled alot with my teeth I still kinda do but it took several visits to the office every other two weeks every other check luckily this before everything went up too. Soo yea I still go to the dentist but it's just for a couple of minor things little crown here and there. You'll be fine don't let it stress you out , you got this I been there

For those of us with dentures , there’s definitely a stigma . People tend to think you didn’t floss or brush but that’s not always true. I drank milk regularly . Avoided soda unless at movies . Took calcium. Brushed, flossed everything but still had enough work to buy my dentist a yacht . Hate that I wear dentures and had to learn to adjust but the constant anxiety is a relief to get rid of .

what a fantastic video explaining everything. I had all my teeth removed and went thru this same process 15 years ago. I have 2 implants on the bottom with a snap on acrylic denture (LOVE!) and a regular acrylic denture on the top. My final upper denture was fitted perfectly and there is no need for any adhesive because there is a strong suction on the roof of the mouth holding it in place. I naively thought this was my one and done with the dentist forever. However, basic dentures will require replacements because acrylic is soft and erosion occurs where the back teeth will file down to the gum line eventually with all the heavy chewing.

I had braces and a lot of mouth surgery before them. I wore them for 3 years. I had to wear a huge mouth brace, which I chose to wear at night. I have a dental condition called mandibular tori-large-big bony growths in the bottom of my mouth.
I can’t believe your experience. I’ve given birth with no medication, but absolutely fear having anything surgical done to my mouth! You must have had an extremely easy time, or your pain threshold is enormous.

I had 17 extractions and nitrous oxide for the extractions and novicane (?) That's the only pain medication I had. Didn't take any aspirin guessing that having endured all the pain from bad teeth and gum disease I was immune to pain.
