Great Video! You should do one about the history of Wimbledon F.C. in more depth. The greatest story in football…

Remember going to plough lane in 1985, Wimbledon 2 Leeds 2 ( Leeds supporter ) in the old 2nd division.. now c/ship..amazing day and always remember it as 1 of my favorite away days ever..
Was sad to see yee leaving plough lane but so glad yee are back so close to your home, all be it just down the road.
The thumbnail pic is almost the spot where we stood screaming, city are losing, city are losing..

@@ArchivistAthletica the english language is a bastardised mess in 2023. and place names have been abused through the centuries.

Yes, the mispronunciation makes the video far more entertaining, particularly Sam Hamman's 😄

Loved going to the Lane when the Dons played Pompey after they got into EFL. But some facts and photos misleading

Thanks for the comment, yeah some things were hard to find photos that fit exactly, so in those cases I tend to find a picture from a similar era or so on.

Plough Lane has never been anywhere near 30000 capacity.

From sources that I have read this 30,000 number was just before the second world war at the old Plough Lane. Obviously a large number of those spectators would be standing, and I cannot find any information if they ever had an attendance even close to that number, as the same source stated the record attendance set in 1938 was just over 18,000. So yeah it's likely this was an optimistic estimate.

@@ArchivistAthletica I think you might be getting the grounds mixed up... Plough Lane the Football Ground had a record attendance of 18,080 in 1935 for an FA Cup tie...keep in mind that Wimbledon where a non-league club for over 40 years after that, it did have an official capacity of 35k before the war though ... The Speedway stadium... that also hosted Greyhound racing.... had a record attendance of 42,000 and from the end of the war to the mid 50s they averaged over 30,000 for a meeting. I guess I'm likely to be one of the few people.. especially not a Londoner that has been to both stadiums, the speedway stadium was actually quite impressive in the 70s/80s. Plough Lane football stadium was very much a product of the clubs history having been outside the football league for 60 years, given what happened with the Taylor report and the drive to modernize facilities Plough Lane was always going to be in REALLY bad shape, easily the worst ground I have seen a top flight game at as a supporter, in terms of the ground itself, access and location.... even if you broaden it out to all the grounds I have watched games at around 60... there aren't many I would rank below... Barnet's old ground is the one that would stand out.

Thanks for the information, yeah it wasn’t clear that the record attendance was set away from Plough Lane in the sources I was reading, it would certainly seem like I got them mixed up a bit!

Do your research more thoroughly and you will find out that AFC stands for A fan’s club not association football club.
