This video might be over 3 years old but thank you for this one. I was recently thinking of parting with my ARP Odyssey but after watching this video and playing mine again with some reverb and delay I am back in love with my ARP Odyssey again. Thanks GEOSynths
I understand. It's not really a go to synth but it's one that when you need a unique flavor it has just the sound. I was thinking of selling mine but your videos have convinced me not to
Great sounds at the start, didn't know pmt had any of these, I'm only twenty mins from them I must call them I'm bored of all the people hating on korg key beds, people should focus on the sounds you / we /they are getting. In my opinion korg are doing great things right now
I agree with you: synths NEED effects. Period. If anyone thinks that their favorite sounds were effect-free, they're not listening. Personally, I love the sound of chorus on a bassline, for instance.
Yes, I see the core sound from a Synth as only one part of the complete sound, as fx can radically change the sound you're ultimately making. Agree with you when it comes to Chorus on Bass, I use it a lot.
3:19 I was going to comment that the filter had that same MS20 growl, but then you mentioned it! Great sounds by the way. It is impressive that the ARP has 3 filter types on it.
This isn't really an arp question but I'm looking at getting a nice sequencer for my odyssey that's in the mail. I've been looking at doepfer dark time a lot and EHX. Can you daisy chain the EHX? If so that would be a nice fix if I could find 2 fairly cheap. Figured I'd ask since you have one. Nice studio set up by the way!
Donald Lykins Not sure if you can daisy chain, but I only use it for modulating cut off or other things, apart from pitch. It isn't quentised, so the pitch isn't in tune with other equipment, the new Korg SQ1 might be a better choice or Beatstep.
That delay effect in the intro - where it sounds like the notes are trailing off in a rhythmic delay - is that coming from the Odyssey? Or your delay effects pedal?
OneyedSon when you play one note, both oscillators play, when you add another note to the right of the first note, it splits them between osc 1 and 2, 1 on the left note, 2 on the right.
Clint Watters Well, technically a 5th is a chord and is made up of 2 notes, so yes. It has 2 Oscillators that can be played paraphonically, but they are not totally independent of each other...
Just picked up the eight step to use with my korg arp. I really like the idea of having the additional way to modulate/sequnce the filter. I couldn't figure out the connections though. If you wouldn't mind I'd love to know precisely what type of cable you're using. I understand what the pedal is doing and I know you're making a connection from the pedal input on the back of the arp to the exp/cv out on the eight step.
+X77 Hi, pretty simple really, just a mono jack cable going from the EXP/CV out to the Pedal input of the Korg. The on the Filter section of the Arp, move the switch to S/H Mixer or Pedal and bring up the Slider...That's it. End of the day, it's just a Voltage.
+GEOSynths I tried midi in on pedal I got it set up right still doesn't sound as rad as you but I'm working on it, I use my doepher cv/gate with my arp, got a drm15 that I run with the 8 step
My keyboard comments not aimed at you btw, I own a Couple of korgs inc. ms20 mini and I'm just bored of the web smashers that just focus on it Full size keyboards are great obviously.
jamie munro Exactly. First, monosynths are not electric pianos or polysynths, there is little reason to have full-sized keys for the type of playing typically done on a monophonic synthesizer, Second, a high-quality full-sized keyboard increases cost and size which translates into a considerably higher price tag.
The one and only ARP ODYSSEY sound. Nothing sounds like that instrument.

Yeah, I sold it as I wasn't using it much, but regret it, just has a tone unlike anything else.

Excellent demo you Make the Odyssey sing what an amazing synth.
Awesome and tasteful use of sample and hold at the beginning. Cheers!
Very good. Much better than the sonic state demonstration. (y)
This was competing Moog, and this is why!
Great demo.
Raiders of the Lost ARP ... Nicely Done!!!
great intro, nice pattern too! I love my Arp Odyssey, my favorite synth out of the many I owned.
That ARP filter is so beasty.
3:19 I was going to comment that the filter had that same MS20 growl, but then you mentioned it! Great sounds by the way. It is impressive that the ARP has 3 filter types on it.
hi,i use my ehx 8 step program with a moog subphatty and others gears and this device from ehx is really great.
great demo!,
damn I need that EHX 8 step for my ARP odyssey, too!
VolcaRock It is a very useful bit of kit, not great for sequencing notes as they aren't quantised, but for filter etc...perfect!
Thanks a lot for additional info,
thats good to know!
Behringer must have made note of this very video.
Genius! I need to try his with my KORG SQ1 sequencer. Thanks. Great vid.
It should work fine, just use a mono cable
very nice sound , great sound
Cutoff filter sounds creamy on this synth. Hmm...Thanks for the info.
damn those knobs are wobbly as hell.
You think? I've used worse...Probably a Synthlab SL-1 has been the worst i've used.
I like that 8 step sequencer, can it do rests?
Lovely sounds man!!

Amazing! Geo, which effects pedals did you use in this video? Awesome
Think it may have been the Strymon Timeline....
Hi.Im Dj and electronic music producer (deep house and tech house genre). Im thinking to buy this synth. What do you recommend ?
That delay effect in the intro - where it sounds like the notes are trailing off in a rhythmic delay - is that coming from the Odyssey? Or your delay effects pedal?
Nice demo - when it's in Duophonic, does it steal an oscillator from the first note played, or does it just play the first note with one oscillator ?
OneyedSon when you play one note, both oscillators play, when you add another note to the right of the first note, it splits them between osc 1 and 2, 1 on the left note, 2 on the right.
Increible...que sonidos!!!!!😍😍😍😍😍
Does the ARP Odyssey can do chords? I've looked all over and all I've heard were solos. Great video, I like the sounds a lot :)
Clint Watters Well, technically a 5th is a chord and is made up of 2 notes, so yes. It has 2 Oscillators that can be played paraphonically, but they are not totally independent of each other...
GEOSynths That's exactly what I needed to know, thank you :)
What if I try to modulate the filter via Pedal In with an LFO Wave out from Grandmother?

Sounds great !
First sequence very BOC
Narudh Areesorn Blue Oyster Cult?
schepler2 hahaha, maybe, Boards Of Canada?
+fUP420babe yeah, must be. That first bit is very reminiscent of Boards of Canada
what a sound...
Great!
Qntal Obscure?
Is that FS?
No, that wasn’t out when I got this.
3:29 & 3:45 Skinny Puppy's "Download" anyone?
Sorry, left some edit points in :)
are you running the step 8 into you board?
I've tried the same but I'm missing something
+reason2910 yes, I'm using a mono cable (T/S) from the 8 step and going to the pedal in of the filter.
+GEOSynths I tried midi in on pedal I got it set up right still doesn't sound as rad as you but I'm working on it, I use my doepher cv/gate with my arp, got a drm15 that I run with the 8 step

People can't be pleased. Still, I've got mine and I love it, the keys are of no problem at all.
KARP FS or BARP... not even a que$tion...
