Lamont, try to go to Missouri there's an exhumed, black holy nun named Sister Wilhelmina Lancaster whose body is incorruptible! Miraculous! ❤ It's a FIRST in the United States!
Wonderful the priest took this young man on a path to find the Lord. He certainly must have been an inspiration to others who were dealing with racism and hatred. No higher calling than doing the Lord's work. Thanks for sharing.
I wanted to be a nun. I didn’t pursue it because I would have to give up all of my possessions, be in good health and leave my mother behind. So I became a Pastor, instead. My mom is an Evangelist and helps me with my ministry. 😇
I wondered, too, what was in the middle of the cross, and though I couldn't find a clear photo of the cross, I did discover that Fr. Augustus Tolton became a Saint in 2019. Isn't that awesome? I dont believe I've ever personally visited with a Saint. BRAVO!!! 👏 👏 👏 His Grandmonther, Matilda Hurd, is buried in Rhodelia, Meade County, KY at St. Theresa's parish cemetery. She had been a slave. 😥❤
Excellent video! I am Roman Catholic. Believe top of cross - three letters upon each other. I (Jesus) H (of Humankind) S (Savior). Often present older Catholic churches. Late 1800's early 1900's priests head markers. Thank you, Lamont! 🕊✝🌹
The way Lamont translates these life stories and takes us all over the country on journeys to the locations is great. Always keeping me interested and coming back for more real stories of real people who should all be remembered.
For God so loved the world. Not this race or the other. We all bleed red blood. Why can’t people get along? We have no control of what color we will be when we’re born! RIP SIR. MAY GOD CONFRONT YOU IN HEAVEN. LOVE YOU MY FRIEND. ❤
This reckoning was very well done, Lamont. This man was born into slavery, and became the first black priest. It is appalling how he was treated in the post-Civil War era. Even with his freedom, he faced racism from the very people he was ordained to save. In order to demonstrate how far the U.S. has come with black Catholics, I am listing some of the most notable: Aalliyah, Hank Aaron, Gina Kay Abercrombie-Winstanley, Lloyd Austin, Cardi B, Pearl Bailey, Josephine Baker, Harry Belafonte, Garcelle Beauvais, Regina Benjamin, Beyoncé, Donna Brazile, Kobe Bryant, Muriel Bowser, Sean Combs, Stacy Dash, Bonnie Davis, Dominique Dawes, Fats Domino, Nathan East, W. Ralph Eubanks, Lola Falana, Robin Givens, Pam Grier, Bryant Gumbel, Regina Hall, Lionel Hampton, Elvin Hayes, Euphemia L. Haynes, Billie Holiday, Lena Horne, Sunny Hostin, Angela Jackson, Rick James, Derek Jeter, Gus Johnson, James Earl Jones, David Justice, Salaria Kea, Bill Kenny Jr., Alan Keyes, Chaka Khan, Marie Laveau, Marie Laveau II, Reginald Lewis, Lil Wayne, LL Cool J, Melba Liston, Audre Lorde, Ellis Marsalis, Master P, Johnny Mathis, Darryl McDaniels, Isaiah McKinnon, Christina Milian, Cymphonique Miller, Romeo Miller, Tom Morello, Jelly Roll Morton, Eddie Murphy, Aaron Neville, Charmaine Neville, Michael Nutter, Kid Ory, Keke Palmer, Floyd Patterson, Kendrick Perkins, Imani Perry, Nathan Pitts, Homer Plessy, Gloria Purvis, Nile Rodgers, Al Roker, Byron Scott, Nina Simone, William F. Lamont End of May 2023 Sister Wilhelmina a black nun , 70 years old. From Gower Missouri. Was exhumed from her grave To be moved to the community oratory. She was found incorrupt. After 4 years being dead.
First time I've heard of him and I'm Catholic attended catholic school 5th grade thru high school. Certainly he meet with a lot of unchristian behavior by Catholics.
Seminary would be the name of the school if he was to becaome a catholic Priest. The overlaid symbol in the middle of the cross is in Greek or Latin identification for Christian or Jesus.
Lamont Look up Sister Wilhelmina a black Catholic Nun. Who has died and remains incorruptible after her death. For real she was the founder of an order of nuns.
Hello Lamont hope you are safe & well. Thought you might be interested in the following regarding your video...Geirmund Heljarskinn becomes the “Black Viking” - the most powerful settler on Iceland through times. Dark-skinned and with Mongolian facial features he was a pioneer in international hunting economy. Heljarskinn had hundreds of slaves; Christians from Scotland and Ireland. Take care of yourself & thanks for all your wonderful hard work 🌸☕🍰💗👩🍳
I'm Byzantine catholic..I'm a biracial American female..and the term for a sermon in the catholic church is a homily.. I'm still learning lol. I married a man Slavic and polish.
Thank you, Lamont. Makes you wonder how many similar stories out there that we don't know about or not told because of the colour of their skin. As is here in the UK. Imagine, if talented people of colour were given the chance to show their talent, prove their worth, any wonder how further the US and the UK would've been? Take Mary Seacole for instance. She was a nurse in the Crimean War, 1853, at the same time as Florence Nightingale, yet she wasn't taught in schools or spoken about like Nightingale, until now. A very remarkable woman. On 30 June 2016, a memorial statue of Mary Seacole was unveiled in the gardens of St Thomas's Hospital; the UK's first in honour of a named black woman. Lamont I wish Fascinating Graveyard could come to England. You could team up our with Paul of Unsual Things. Something to think about Maybe.
Thank you for this fascinating story, I'm familiar with it since I'm Catholic and thank you for paying respect to this man, the first Black Catholic priest in the US. Father Tolton was ordained to the priesthood in Rome in 1886 at age 31. His first public Mass was inside St. Peter's Basilica on Easter Sunday, 1886. It looks like he was reassigned to Chicago when his attempts to do ministry in Quincy were met with his resistance as per his Bio on Wikipedia en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Augustus_Tolton As far the S symbol on his Cross tombstone it's a symbol for Christ, Salvator meaning Savior in Latin. I believe that's what it means. It's a shortened version of IHS which means Jesus Christ, Savior of Mankind. Hope that helps!
I just cannot understand how people thought back then to even think that a human can own another human is something I just cannot imagine, A VERY dark time in our history. But only thru the grace of God its no longer like that. Very interesting story Lamont thank you sharing it.
God bless all Catholic priest, they have the most important vocation on earth. The good faithful priest give up everything in order to fully serve God and to give us the sacraments.God is supplying modern priest from all over the world to America to keep the number of priests in America from declining.
@FascinatingGraveyard also we about 30 minutes rom Robert Earl Hughes, world's heaviest man. Give me a yell when you are back in the area, and I'll show you these.
No one is ever happy Lamont, Every one has to complain about nothing. Instead of letting This Man just preach the gospel, they just focused on his color.. Even today hundreds of years later people are still focused on skin color..
This video makes it sound like Tolton was run out of town. At the time he was pretty obscure and few local people knew of him. There has been a campaign in the last 20 years to bring attention to him. Many details of his life arent known. Nearly all blacks in Quincy were protestant at the time. As a black Catholic he was kind of a unicorn at that time in the Midwest . Few local blacks attended his sermons. The First Baptist Church of Quincy is a black congregation, having been organized before the Civil War by escaped former slaves. Nobody was trying to run them out of town. There is manufactured drama about an obscure black man that couid become part of the local tourism. Black priests were then a new thing in the U S , but not overseas. There wasn't much documented about Tolton at the time. To be recognized as a Catholic saint Toton needs evidence of performing a miracle - that could be pulled from thin air . Avoid the drama, there is scant documentation about his life . There is plenty of creative license about "history" to sell the story. Original artifacts about Tolton are scarce. Do a video about William Dallas, the first black police officer in illinois, also of Quincy. He was killed in the line of duty. Dallas was a former slave, having escaped as a young man.
Mrs H 🇬🇧 ... Black or White what does it matter ?? Colour means nothing to me only Good, Bad & Honest hearts...I'm so glad I wasn't around in those days cos human & animal ALL bleed the same... Even back then some knew it was insanely cruel... GOD created all living human's & animal's... I'm a prodicent like all my family throughout the Generation's ... True Prodicents believe in life...Those that DON'T hurt other's.. It seems that back then regardless of religion you couldn't be a good person.. Most wars are caused by religion BUT what it comes down too is Good & Bad/Evil...💔
I always enjoy your posts and today was no different except you kinda bashed the Baptists. I don’t understand why. We are no different that the Assembly of God, Nazarene, and Methodist, etc. as far as just being regular guys! I am probably more touchy because my awesome father was a Baptist minister for over 70 years. Please watch how you talk about us.
I’m a Catholic and we learned about him in parochial school. He was fascinating to learn about.
I'm not catholic but nevertheless a fascinating story.
Lamont, try to go to Missouri there's an exhumed, black holy nun named Sister Wilhelmina Lancaster whose body is incorruptible! Miraculous! ❤
It's a FIRST in the United States!
Back in the earlier years there was hatred in a lot of non black people's hearts. So sickening.
Wonderful the priest took this young man on a path to find the Lord. He certainly must have been an inspiration to others who were dealing with racism and hatred. No higher calling than doing the Lord's work. Thanks for sharing.
A beautiful story. We are not taught that in school. Only generalizations. Thank you Lamont. Peace out to you too.
I wanted to be a nun. I didn’t pursue it because I would have to give up all of my possessions, be in good health and leave my mother behind. So I became a Pastor, instead. My mom is an Evangelist and helps me with my ministry. 😇

Lamont here in Chicago our archdiocese is working to get Fr. Tolton canonized (made a saint); so far so good.
The way Lamont translates these life stories and takes us all over the country on journeys to the locations is great. Always keeping me interested and coming back for more real stories of real people who should all be remembered.
My condolences...
. Now he is a candidate for sainthood, having been elevated to “Venerable” by Pope Francis in 2019
Very interesting story. Thanks alot Lamonte
He seems like a very fascinating person I wish I got to meet him.
The word for sermon in the Catholic mass is homily.
We ALL Bleed Red As Folks Say💯❤️-We Speak Your Name-❤️🙏🏻💐💫🤟🕊
We call it a homily, which is basically a sermon. This was quite the fascinating story. Thanks for sharing!
Excellent story.

I'm no fan of formalized religion, but I'll say how sad it is, that he endured considerable hardship and racism, only to die at a fairly young age.
I trust that Our Heavenly Father will be gracious to Venerable Reverend Augustine Tolton. May He Rest In Peace and continue His journey into Sainthood. I’m sure that Pope Francis will examine His life throughly and pray for the Miracles to bring Him to Sainthood. ❤🙏✝️
