Atari 2600 homebrew scene is amazing, and AtariAge as a publisher is especially awesome. Homebrews are the single biggest reason why I’m back regularly playing 2600 games. Great video, Adam.

Great video! Honestly I am no longer surprised by anything coming out of any of the homebrew scenes. It's all amazing. I currently own copies of Lady Bug, Dungeon, Dungeon 2 Solstice, Halo 2600, and even Princess Rescue. I also have a standard edition copy of Circus Convoy, but I find retro release a more accurate term for that one than homebrew.

    • @HippoBytes

Yeah they claim Circus Convoy is simply a NEW Atari game released and not a home brew. But that makes me think the quality of what some do, like the Muddyvision games and packaging - those are also way beyond simple "home brew"

Never an atari owner, I am from UK. Played, plug and play TV Boy II, for long time, many great games available;, I played it for many hours. Title on Clone system was #7: Space 2010. Most played on that system: (Atari Names) including Demon Attack:, Dark Cavern; Keystone Kapers, Circus, Video Pinball, River Raid. lots of great titles available (126,) many great. Today's video certainly showed lthat there are lots more great games here for today, and beyond.

THe Original controllers were SO FUN!
What's up with all this Homebrew Atari stuff? I wrote hundreds of great Atari games. The only way to share them back then was buying cases of beer or letting my kids check them out.
A lot of my best stuff, nobody saw. The whole shebang got left behind in a move.
There was no damn internet and the computer stuff cost a fortune/ You mean I could be rich now, if we kept it all? Damn!

I was only interested in testing my games to death for bugs or making the coding in OSS Atari basic as elegant and readable as possible so that if I came back to it way later , I could easily see where I left off. I depended on my young girls to sit down and check them out. It was great that they could crash them right away like I couldn't and I got the line number and the error code to fix the bugs in seconds! As it was, that was my go to start a new one. This ones in the bag!

...I don't know about rich but certainly a little return on your hobby 😅 and DAMN! Would have loved to see what you came up with. Look at my latest video. David Crane (Activision, Pitfall) just put out a REAL new game - not homebrew.

@HippoBytes Okay. I'm not good at this but loving my Atari stuff for about ten years before it all got thrown out, one of my earliest programs was "Strip Poker". I worked out very elegant code for card games with great graphics and sound but I was stuck with getting the computer to rate the hands and see who was winning to make it a real game. I woke up one morning seeing all my code clearly in my subconscious minds eye and woke up with a very small nested loop. I had no idea what it was that I noted before I went to work that day. Eventually, I developed it into a party game that no one actually had to undress. The fantastic Atari Joystick let them scroll up and down and select what they were "wearing" and gave them points on undressing or something

Pitfall was really great but the Activision controller wheel was a real bummer for that and I just could not play it very far

I see you have Adventure II for Atari 5200 in front row (all the way to my left). I would like to purchase it and it's available in Atariage.com.
But do you know if Adventure II - Atari 5200 is playable on Retron 77?
Even if I purchase the cartridge, I don't know how I can play it. What console is there for me to play the game on?

    • @HippoBytes
      @HippoBytes  4 роки тому +1

The Retron won't take the 5200 cartridges. I am not aware of any other 5200 emulators out there, but they may exist. I just never looked. I play it on an actual Atari 5200 console.

@@HippoBytes thank you for your reply.
I found vizzed.com where I can play 5200 games along with other games on my p.c.
Last night I finished the 2nd level of adventure (5200 version).
      boy, that was hard 😁.
      but I enjoyed it thoroughly.
I think I'm still gonna buy the Retron because I still want to play evil magician returns 2 & epic adventure (2600 version).
