Just wanted to let you know for your analytics, the only reason I stopped watching halfway through is because I'm planning to buy this game and didn't want to spoil it! Thanks for all your homebrew reviews and keep up the great work!
I wish someone would create a game engine like NES Maker for the atari. Coding in Assembly Language is quite hard. Thanks for the first look the new homebrews.
Thats a freakin' good one. Too bad most didn't play it as it came out a bit after the crash. I certainly didn't play it until a few years back. I need to do a video of of great games I discovered as an adult
@@HippoBytes It was initially a Sinclair Spectrum game, which is what it was most famous for, but I think they did release versions for the Amstrad CPC and Commodore 64.
@@HippoBytes its tough after the first few levels. It is also, i think, the only 2600 gane with a password feature to continue later at the level you stopped
I'm surprise at how "persistent" the dungeon is. Most monsters remain dead after you killed them. That is quite an achievement when you have only a few dozen bytes available to store the game state...
@@bellissimo4520 Oh yeah, good point. Not only do you have the limitation on the ROM but freakin optimizing the RAM memory banks on the system itself... I was a developer in a past life, but never developed Atari games, did Assembly, or anything like that. Read quite a bit about it and things that folks figured out and got better at was quite impressive.
Really polished game... good graphics, good sound effects. It's amazing that the dungeon is randomized.
Certainly impressive all the way around
Ha! I went to high school with the developer. It's pretty neat to see what he's been up to. Makes sense. I think I will buy my copy now.
Well, that's a cool story. I'm looking forward to what he does next!
I love how Atariage packs these so good.I got this and Anguna in box version with skeleton and all 3 were packed perfectly.
Yeah, Al is a perfectionist for sure. Nothing will ever come in damaged. I hope he stays on after the sell to Atari.
I like to imagine what it would be like to have played this game so long ago❤️
Same - I was thinking this would certainly be one of my favs. Its so great even now.
Thank you so much
Certainly!
This is such an enjoyable video to watch. Keep up the great work, Mickmuze.
Hey thanks! Really appreciate that.
If this game had come out when I was a kid I know I would have been crazy about it! Seems fantastic!
Yeah, its really fun and well done. Great art.

😅😅 thanks for the heads up and glad you’ve been enjoying!
I'm really digging those sound effects.
Yes, they are very satifying! Mick really knocked it out of the park with his first release. Mick! Make more!
This looks really cool for a 2600 homebrew!
Art, game play, and fun factor, its certainly one of the best I think
I also love footsteps sound Video games
I was totally digging that too!
This looks awesome. I love seeing old consoles getting games that benefit from the decades of development experience we have now.
I play more old consoles now. Just cant get into new games anymore - guess I just prefer quick hits and not ready to sit for hours anymore.
Enjoyed that review - thank you
Thanks - they did an incredible job on this game.
Dam those colours are amazing! Those new games are so beautiful. And it is a huge Zelda vibe.
More so than Zelda had an adventurer vibe.
Thats a good comparison actually - Adventure Zelda.
This game would have been the killer app for the Atari 2600. Im gonna get it.
They did a good job on this in every aspect.
What a great looking and sounding game! I am ordering this for sure!
They really outdid themselves on this one.
Ausome that Atari Age continues to support the VCS and other classic systems!
For real. I play my VCS more than any other console.
Download?

Yeah, agree, but I am not even sure a complier would get the game small enough. Have you tried BitArai BASIC?
One of my favorite games of all time is still Hero on the 2600.

@@HippoBytes Like many vintage Activision titles, the controls are tight, the visuals are appealing and the challenge gets tough by level 8.
You have a nice image on an lcd. What is your set up if you don't mind me asking?
For recording, I used the Retron 77. Put the bin file on an SD card.
I didn't know arcade 1up made a golden tea machine! Very cool! Why don't they have it at my Wal-Mart they have most of the others
They have a new model than mine too - Golden Tee 3D
Reminds me of a simplified Sabre Wulf.
Oh, havn't played that yet - I need to check it out.

@@daviddavies3637 ahh I have a Sinclair emulator on one of those retro consoles. I’ll see if it has it.
Impressive game !
Yeah they did a great job on the game and box+manual.
Reminds me a bit of gateway to apshai
Totally forgot about that game! I can picture the box so vividly now.
this seems a lot like secret quest.
I haven't played Secret Quest, I'll have to give it a shot. Did you like it?

Does this game work on the new atari 2600 plus?
Not sure yet, @atari STILL hasn't shipped mine...😞😞
I am still waiting too

It is 32K Melody board, but still most impressive: atariage.com/store/index.php?l=page_view&p=atariage_melody
@@HippoBytes Yeah but that's ROM storage, isn't it? I don't think those cartridges actually extend the 128 byte RAM of the VCS?

This is a very impressive game, but I'm more into the 800 series of computers, I would buy this if I was on an 800, XL or XE system.
supercool
the machine less memory than brandon
agreed
Makes me wonder if, ultimately, the system could handle a low level zelda clone.
Probably the closest it could come is something like Dark Chambers. Or this game.
There is an Ultima clone, but yeah, it would have to be super low level.
So it’s Zelda for the 2600. Gee how revolutionary.
It certainly isn't Zelda, just a good 2600 game.
