Looking at getting an XF or XJ so been researching this and indeed there's complete coolant line kits made of Ally now which would sort out any leaks from plastic breaking. I believe some replacement water pumps now also come with brass connectors instead of plastic. Seems to be the main thing to look out for on these vehicles and at least there's now a solution to future proofing them

This video helped a lot I've been smelling antifreeze for the last 3 years I always took it back to the dealer they claim they couldn't find anything I kept that big with the dealer now that it's pay for and the warranty is up I've been noticing Steam towards the front windshield and after driving or even with the vehicle running you could smell antifreeze tours the front windshield now it all makes sense great video keep up the good work I know what I'm up against now

I had the same problem with the dealership for about 4 years my wife and myself argue many times because she was so friendly with the dealer sales rep they always talked about Disneyland I always talked about I'm smelling antifreeze and I'm seeing Steam by my front windshield so everyone's looking at me crazy until I found a few videos the beginning of this year on the internet about the problem but my sales rep knew she knew that I knew something was wrong I went to the Jaguar dealer about March of this year to get another part and I bring it to her attention that I found out what that smell of antifreeze was coming from you should have seen the look on her face

I purchased a used 2016 Jaguar XJ Sedan 3 years ago. I have been smelling Antifreeze since I have had this issue. Researched it on UA-cam and found several videos where people were saying that was a common, nothing to worry about. 2023 same problem but I am having to add antifreeze now. To it to dealership for maintenance, they checked and told my husband they didn’t find anything. So I am researching it myself, found this video and a couple others, will definitely speak with my dealership about this. Luckily my car still has warranty!

@@gqautodiagnostics Turned out to be worse than originally thought. Local repair shop did a pressure test and confirmed the water pump was also leaking. Decided to replace the rear crossover pipe, since the manifold was already going to be off for replacing the front outlet pipe and it was as old as the failed outlet pipe. Only additional cost was for the part. So, for less money than the dealer wanted for the front outlet only, all the parts that require work to get to are being replaced. Hopefully Jaguar will not continue to use plastic pipes and go back to real materials.

Interesting video many thanks! As these parts are well known for failure (Plastic)! Not if they give up, just when? It would seem ripe for some engineering outfit to make up a replacement kit made of alloy perhaps? Again the connector pipe to the rear of the water pump failing and the O ring gasket seems to harden and leak very often. Just my thoughts there already are water pumps (aftermarket that have improvements in their design over the factory (Fomoco) unit for example.

I ordered one online that was only $20 bucks. They said I was going to have it Saturday when I had ordered it Monday but instead they chose sure post which insured it would take an extra two weeks so I went ahead and went to the dealer dealer quoted me $300 but I told him I saw one in line for another Jag dealer for $150* and he went ahead and sold it to me for a little over $160 but I should’ve looked her because there was another dealer price of $130 so maybe I still could’ve got it cheaper. Sometimes they stick to your guns. Sometimes they’re willing to negotiate. It’s worth an ask.
      * Don’t make up things well I was talking to him he was busy on his computer. He could’ve very well at double checked what I was saying because at first he said $170 and I was going to agree to that and then he went ahead and dropped it down another 10 bucks. Every dollar counts.

    • @mc6775
      @mc6775 Рік тому

Well, I understand that part has a sensor and I’m hoping that that’s the reason why my fan isn’t coming on because I think I had a little crack that was very small and I think it’s grown because now I have to add maybe about 500 mL of coolant every couple days but I do drive a lot as a rideshare driver and sometimes I can’t smell it when I’m driving a little bit. The car is not overheating but I am definitely losing coolant. I can see a little bit of Spray, I think that came from under the back of the beauty cover the top cover of the engine on the back part of the hood. I have the part on order and hopefully my guy can get to it this weekend. I’m too old to wanna screw around anymore. I’ve done it but it takes me a lot longer than a real mechanic so I’m not willing to lose that much time.
Thanks for answering. Hope the new year is good for you.

OK much confusion out there. Many parts sellers claim there’s is ONLY for Supercharged V8! For my ‘12 XJL they’re the SAME!
Part #’s AJ814007, LR122709, AJ814056. Late ‘11 mfg. (can’t promise nothing changed but a SoFlo Jag dealer lists 2010-2018 F-Type, XJ, XK, XF-So I’ll put more faith in the dealer then other online sellers.
So gaskets aren’t the same as it used to be when I started working on my 400 Pontiac in the 70s; now they’re using a type of rubber compound. Maybe it’s silicone? I don’t know, but I guess they’re reusable unless they’re damaged, so for myself, I’m going to order a set of eight just in case I’d rather have them and not need them, then vice-versa.
      Intake Manifold Gasket
      (Eight needed)
      AJ811713
      LR010881
The AJ is the jaguar part number LR of course being Land Rover. For some reason they don’t bother telling us why it’s the same part. (For instance, the pipe he replaced in this video is the same one for the XK sport sedan and the midsize XF and even the F-type 5.0L V8.

One more question for the Contant creator was there a gasket for the manifold cover I understand the smaller intake gaskets might be reusable, but personally I am ordering a sad just in case. But I’ve been unable to see if there’s a part number, but I could find for the manifold cover that you removed itself. If there isn’t one, could you let me know?

Maybe I should’ve had the shop I just used watch this video first. I did want to make a couple comments I found out. I heard somebody to do this, and then ended up ripping me off for a couple grand because they needed the money for the parts that they never actually install. (They did install a new belt that had broken.)
They were supposed to repair what you did and instead he actually sabotaged the return hose that goes from the overflow tank into the engine and splits in two parts the hose that connects to the water pump and another hose, which the new Mechanic I found, never specified what it was.
I wanted to point out a couple things I see these also made of aluminum the pipe you’re going to replace some color coolant pipe some cold heater pipe. But for some reason the aluminum ones they say are for supercharged 5L engines. But as far as I can tell, the pipe is the same as the plastic one. But I could find no one to tell me any reason the aluminum one wouldn’t work on a naturally aspirated engine.
The other thing I found out from the mechanic that fixed with the rip off guy did was that some parts for Land Rover are exactly the same, but with a different part number for Land Rover. Those silicone gaskets that go in the valves that you taped over; I think for the Land Rover 5L NA V-8 they were less than half the price for the same part for a Jaguar 5L NA V-8. So if you see the same part for Land Rover and it looks exactly the same as the one for jaguar it probably is the same part because they are the same engine.
Hopefully you gave the old parts to the owner of the car so he knew exactly what was replaced and how much work you put into it because the guy who fixed my car after the mechanic ripped me off other than the pipe you’re replacing that I supplied and the other stuff I ordered that he said was needed. He said he replaced another hose but I have no idea which one it was and he didn’t save the old one for me which I wish he would’ve.
Because I developed a new leak and the first week that you’re repairing in this video there was splatter under the hood from where it came out from under the engine cover and also underneath the engine cover in the back of the engine. The new leak is coming from the front Doing the same thing splatter in the edges under the hood and the front of the engine cover so I know that the leak is coming from somewhere in the vicinity of the water pump or any other hoses or pipes in the front of the vehicle Were the S belt and everything is.
I know this is a bit long but if you manage to bother reading if you have an idea maybe you could give me your input because I gave a shop $800 for a brand new water pump that was marked up 100% from retail plus their labor as well as 2 gallons of coolant that I supplied For somethings that I think didn’t need to be done because a couple days after they did it and the air got out of the system. The same leak started all over again which makes me think they didn’t need to replace the water pump and they just Jack me around or maybe it was an honest mistake but still I’m pretty upset that I spent almost $1000 for nothing.
No, the other thing is it doesn’t leak when the engine is warm only after it’s sat for six to eight hours or more!
Because the shop that told me it was the water pump said I needed to leave it overnight so they could see where the leak was coming from because they let it idle for hours at their shop, and nothing leaked at all.
My replacement Mechanic installed that we are pipe that you’re doing. He also installed the one that came that bolted into the front of the engine which I don’t know if I’ve seen in your video because it had a buildup of orange coolant calcified so we have been leaking for a long time.
Anyway, if you have any ideas, what would leak ONLY when it was COOLED OFF? If you bother to read this I want to thank you for your time. Take care!

Thank you for the explanation. And I am sorry to hear about your car troubles. The aluminum pipe is an updated part due to the expected failure of the plastic one. You or your mechanic should use OEM. I understand that OEM parts can be more expensive, however it can save you a lot of time and time is money. The best way to find the leak is to pressurize the system when the car is cold to find the source of the problem. You can rent a coolant pressure tester at your local auto parts store and get your money back afterward. I don't know where you are located, but you can also buy parts at Parts Authority, which has many parts for Jaguar, and you can save money without compromising quality. I hope you can find the problem. Keep me posted.
