    Preparing Subfloor for Lowes Carpet Install using DAP Flexible Floor Patch and Leveler
    Welcome to the Break Free Homestead UA-cam channel. Today we rip out our old laminate flooring as we prepare the nursery for Tuckers arrival. We ripped up the laminate to fine inconsistencies in the sub floor which would have caused the carpet to have very noticeable differences in the subfloor.
    We used DAP Flexible Floor Patch and Leveler and it worked amazing. I believe there are many other brands that offer similar products but we were happy with DAP and thought it was a fair price.

    We had Lowes come in and install the new carpet and it turned out great. 100% satisfied with their work and timeliness.

    The most important thing about this product that I discovered is that you can actually send nails through it. Unlike the self-leveling cement mix which will shatter. If you plan on putting in hardwood floors at any point this stuff is what you should be using. cheers!

    This was educational, thanks. My home is nearly 20 years old, and it seems I’m the first owner of the property having to do major repairs (it was used as a rental unit for years). I’m starting to think I might as well become a handyman with how much time I spend watching videos like these then crossing my fingers as I move forward with a project 🤣

      Glad it was helpful! Hey, handyman ain't a bad gig. 😂😂

    Great video. You should have mentioned that DAP Flexible Floor Patch is a "Patch" and is not self leveling. That makes it great for patching small areas but not for broad application.

    Nice video! I just ripped 450 square feet of carpet out of one area of my 120 year old home and was nervous about what condition our subfloor would be in and was pleased to discover only one area about 2X2 really needs any help, as it has some dips in it that I need to level out before we put down our engineered wood floors. This seems like the perfect stuff. I was really wanting to avoid the liquid leveler. Thanks!

      Man thats not bad for being that old! Yeah the liquid leveler sounds like a mess. Glad we were able to help you out!

    You should plane those seams as flat as possible, or use an edger, prior to using this product.

    Does this stuff need to be totally smooth or sanded in any way? Or is it fine just how it is?

    • @BreakFreeHomestead
      @BreakFreeHomestead  3 роки тому +1

      We left it how it was, just tried smoothing it out as best we could with the knife and it's perfect under the pad and carpet.

    The container that I used was thick and hard to spread. Hard to believe its the same product as the one in the video.

    Can you sand the Dap after its dried? It looks like it would dry rock hard.

    • @BreakFreeHomestead
      @BreakFreeHomestead  4 роки тому

      I didn't sand any myself but it actually dries like a rubber. For example in the areas where i put t on heavier than recommended to test it you can somewhat depress it.
      Thanks for the support RJ!

      I read somewhere there is a file you can use. I have used it before and would not attempt a sand. its more of a rubber texture. like a tire. If your sending nails or staples afterwards, I believe this is the GO=TO instead of self leveling compound.
