LISTEN ! I’m always open to a writer taking a risky move on a character, and I mean a BOLD move. This run was different, but I still enjoyed it. Cap is one of my favs. Another excellent overview bro bro !
I am also. It risk doesn’t ALWAYS hit and sometimes it does, but that’s totally based on the reader so I’m right with you! Also thank you and thank you for watching!
I read a lot of this in single issues after getting back into comics after a very long absence. For that reason the course of the story line was fine and intriguing to me, but I do remember the controversy and certain people losing their minds over this run. I probably won't get the omnibus because now I usually focus on buying runs that I haven't experienced yet, but I'd recommend people give it a try if they are open-minded to a more risky take on the character.
Could agree more! That’s my exact thoughts and why I gave it a above average rating, especially because I don’t mind a risky take with a character here and there!
I really flip flopped on this. I have read no Spencer at all on any character but had pre-ordered this anyway, then I cancelled it based on some other previews/comments about his work, then pre-ordered it again. Your review is interesting, even as a massive Cap fan you only give it 7.5. Anyway can’t flip again, it’s being delivered tomorrow so I’m in whether I like it or not now!
Most people that hate on Spencer’s writing usually hate on it because of this run or atleast reference it and the controversial existence it has had. I personally don’t think he’s a bad writer at all but does have his own vibe and flair. I think you should give some of his runs a try maybe digitally before doing the deep dive or just get this Cap Omni in and check it out because no writer out there is 100% for everyone and it’s for sure a hit or miss for a lot of people. Also when it comes to my ratings I usually form my rating based off my personal reading experience as well as how it performs compared to other runs on the character which is why I gave it a 7.5. I mainly gave that score because I do feel the run is above average and a lot of fun personally and I feel a lot of risks were taken as well BUT it’s for sure no brubaker, waid, or gruenwald. Cap is my favorite hero and typically my favorite title so I’m typically extra critical on his books and runs, but I do recommend you giving it a try and letting me know what you thought.
@@Illuminerdy_ I definitely will do and understand completely your rating system and your comments about how people view him. I’m looking forward to trying someone I’ve not read before. I never think about trying out digitally - probably a bit old to start doing that now - so I’ve already got his Spider-Man vol 1 based again on some decent reviews. There’s a reading backlog here and following your reviews, Ultimate Spidey 1&2 are top of the pile, but once I get to the Cap, I’ll let you know. Thanks for the reviews

I didn’t like this run as much as you did but it was alot of fun seeing Sam as cap
It’s not for everyone! And I agree it was nice seeing more of Sam as cap!
