I was not expecting them to address Cameron Boyce's death. I'm happy they didn't replace him. It feels a bit more respectful.

honestly cameron’s death was such a shock and i was hoping that they wouldn’t disrespect his passing for money or content because it’s disney, im glad they addressed it but i hope if they do another movie they give him something more to honor his memory because my younger sister watches these movies as well and i believe it’s important for children to understand that sometimes good people pass away and that yes it’s sad but it’s a part of life and we should celebrate the wonderful memories they gave us while they were still with us
They have announced that they are planning two more movies but it honestly seems like it’s gonna be about other characters

I think that the best way to possibly address Cameron Boyce’s passing would be through a scene of mal, Evie, and jay consoling jane about it. I mean Carlos and Jane were in a relationship of some sort, so if they wanted someone to exposition his passing without it sounding too forced, the best candidate would be her.
In terms of what happened to Carlos… there are two options that would be the best outcome in my opinion. Either he died in an accident while trying to do something jane (such as trying to arrange where he wanted to propose), or he died saving the life of a dog (thematically the best in my opinion considering his fear of dogs in the beginning of the first movie, risking his life to save a family of dogs works really well as far as character arcs go).
Yes, death itself is a sensitive subject, but I think Disney did good by removing Carlos from the story entirely. It’s honoring Cameron’s legacy by not replacing him with someone else just to keep the character in the story. A pretty good example of this is in kingdom hearts III. The Japanese voice actor for Phil (from Hercules) passed away, so to honor his role they made it so that Phil doesn’t speak at all in the third game.
I wonder how they would tackle Cruella's feelings towards it. Yeah she's evil but the films have established that the villains do love their kids in their own way, they just have trouble expressing it. So Cruella dealing with Carlos's passing could be a minor plot point. The friends paying her a visit to check in on her and give her some emotional support while she's in mourning
I do not think any of the original cast will be in any new movies. the whole reason this wedding was animated was because the cast didn't want to film without Cameron and I don't think they will ever be ready to do that. At best if they were going to address it he would have a statue or something in the world but that's it
I feel like Disney is not going to be that respectful and that regard kind of what I mean by that is the actor for black panther who we know they're not recasting died but the problem is it kind of screws with the animated side of the MCU so what I'm saying is I think they're not going to be cast in my action but they have to recast them in animation so you know yeah

The reason they made this animated movie was because the main cast didn't want to continue filming without Cameron. And they won't, that was a closure thing for the fans.
So it's more likely that we will hear about them in future movies, but not see them anymore.

if they do make a descendants 4, it'd probably not have much of if not anything with dove, booboo, and sofia because they only did the royal wedding stuff because it was animated. they had effectively said "disney, with all do respect, not doing it if it's live action without cameron" since cam was like family to them
Yeah, I remember there being an interview with Dove sometime after Cameron's passing, and she eluded that she wouldn't be returning to do more Descendants movies or Disney in general
then again, the characters would have graduated by then, so it probably wouldn't be focusing on them.

Most movies if one of cast dies they are replaced by dopleganger actor or actress. Of course it's depend what movie is it. Like Dumbledore from Harry Potter movies was replaced because original actor died by old age.
I wanted to mention this in case there are people who haven't figured this out yet.
Uma and Mal aren't just friends, their family. Second cousins to be exact.
Hades and Poseidon are brothers. In Disney canon, Triton (Ariel's father), has two younger sisters, Ursula and Morgana who are the children of Poseidon. And since Poseidon is technically Mal's uncle and Uma's grandfather, they are cousins.
This is why in the 3rd movie, them working together can reignite the ember. Hades says that the ember won't do everything it does for him in her possession because she's a demigod. But technically, Uma is a demigod as well, making them 2 halves of a whole.
It makes a lot more sense when you think about this.
Also if Celia is half sisters with Freddie and Uma (who are full sisters) then it also explains why Dr. Faciliar's daughter is Hades errand rat.
It's all connected.
I really love Cameron Boyce, his death was such a shock. Rarely celebrity deaths make me cry but hearing he passed made me ugly sob. I feel they did an alright job addressing it at least but still. It's sad.

Originally I thought with Cameron’s passing that they were going to say that Carlos was really busy helping the wedding and couldn’t join the team. The was they acknowledged it was pretty tasteful.

Also the Disney villain series by Selena Valentino because those books are surprisingly good and also one of them the Maleficent book kind of explains a pothole in descendants regarding Audrey if you really read in between the lines like I did it gives her a better reason for using the septer I also say that the most dark book in the series is probably mother knows Best which is about mother gothel the most realistic book is evil thing which is about culled DeVille also they also made another book series that's Disney's twisted tales which basically is what if something happened differently like what if Rapunzel's hair had the power to kill people, what if Mulan went to the underworld, what if Cinderella never got the glass slipper put on at the end of her movie, what if Ursula won and it goes on from there by the way you can read the twisted tales in any older you want but you have to read the villain series in order because there's a lot of callbacks to previous books and there's an overarching story to it

I feel for Cameron Boyce's family. My little brother also has seizures and has epilepsy. The only difference is, well, he's six.

*Easy fix for the plot:* Audrey has tunnel vision with her wedding planning and managed to make a mistake. That mistake led to an accident that Hades was unfortunate enough to be in the middle of which resulted in him accidentally setting the wedding on fire. This creates a misunderstanding that they resolve with Hades, but now they are suspicious of Audrey. Even though they let her plan the wedding, it's still hard to work with her, not to mention that she was a villain in the third movie and was jealous of Mal. Audrey is hurt by this and struggles to express herself, but proves herself by outdoing herself on the wedding planning (Not the inconsiderate idea Ben and Mal had and avoiding the nonchalant magic use. I get that the closest family is most important theme the movie had going, but they are literally King and Queen).
*Side note as an artist:* 25 FPS for heaven's sake. It's NOT hard at all when the company is literally DISNEY.
The Royal Wedding needs more budget, I still don't know why they went with this style over the 3D CGI one(that looks way better).
I think they handled Carlos as best as they could, but the rest of the special is kind of boring and stiff.
And it doesn't feel “Disney“, they have way better ways to do animation, even quick ones like this.
Yeah I think fan animations could do better in places, even the designs feel like fanart put into motion its stylised in such a non-Disney way. A lot of the motions are quite ambitious so it feels like they hired a fanartist and paired them with an experienced animator and they alone had to animate the entire thing in a fairly short amount of time
Disney also has some shorts leading up to "The Royal Wedding" on UA-cam, and they look better than this

I low-key think that The Royal Wedding was kinda rushed...
Of anything I thought it was a little weird that Disney is promoting a wedding to it's audience knowing full well that the characters are supposed to be in high school. But other than that, the whole “small wedding instead” bit was not only a slap in the face to the characters who planned a big wedding but also to the fans since they were hyping this special on tv so much that for them to not even show said wedding is really underwhelming
I'm pretty sure it's implied that the characters are supposed to be 18 in this which makes sense to me because you can get married and I think what Ben did was in descendants 3 was he proposed so they can get married when they graduated which they did like a lot of teenage trilogies do that they are about teenage characters as well where the final movie is the last one in high school or if it the last movie overall it's about graduating it's a very trope with this genre especially if you noticed stuff like that it's very much a trand

there will not be another movie at least not with this cast the whole reason this special was animated is because this cast is so traumatized by Cameron's death they could not be back on set without him and I actually respect Disney for listening to the cast and doing what was best for their mental health over profits
I genuinely enjoyed this short. It felt to me like it effectively closed the story for the main four. I actually really loved that there wasn't a conflict, because there didn't have to be. Life isn't just about conflict and solving problems, it's also about the nice moments you get to have with the people around you, and I feel like this short perfectly portrayed that side. We never fully get to see what they do when there's no problems, so in a way this made the characters feel more like people.
The Carlos hits deep… but how did he die in the “story of the movie”.

BUT ABOUT THE WEDDING. I was somewhere between "underwhelmed" and "perfectly whelmed." My favorite part was when Fairy Godmother said Hades was "so muscular" because I cackled and ran to the discord server like, "Was anyone gonna mention this?" And someone said, "Nope. Everyone needed to hear that for themself."
The animation for that is kinda... if I didn't know it was a Disney show, I'd have thought it was by a more indie production due to the frame rate.

9:25 I think that one Easter Egg is also hinting at Twisted Wonderland, which is a Disney mobile game that's kinda like this except for teens/adults and is done A LOT better. BTW, that's finally dropping in the west on January 20th and has early sign up now.

Started the video and my first thought was “hot DAMN Negative Legends looks INCREDIBLE today!!!!” The black lipstick and flipped over hair really works amazing on you, I hope you do this sort of look more often in the future!
I just wish there wasn't a wedding quite yet, I'll be honest. It doesn't feel like there was a solid smooth growth into the marriage. Not to mention it probably shouldn't have been made if they were going to cheapen it. The dialogue isn't great, the frame rate is sad, and the topic of Cameron felt more of a throwaway (although it could've been handled way worse). I can't believe I'm saying this but Riverdales episode on an actor's death was very well done and respectful, not just a single line of a cheaply produced special. The bracelet was a good choice.
TLDR; I just think it was too soon for this special.
I'm worried now that they won't address Cameron passing in the next film bc this short was about dipping their toes in the water to see fan reaction, and if they see enough people being satisfied with this they'll think its a sign to not overdo it... And instead it will come across as NL explained, like this animation exists just to sweep it under the rug which will instantly change opinions of the short and the franchise as a whole 😢
I liked the fact that we had closure, story-wise, for the original cast with this special, but the animation was just...no. This is DISNEY, and they couldn't even stay on model. And we continue with white-washing characters in non-live-action media. I do like that the characterization was consistent, even if the plot is threadbare. The animated shorts featuring Mal and Evie that lead up to the wedding - Mal choosing her cake, getting her dress, asking Evie to be her maid-of-honor - were all far better in terms of animation quality. Wicked World was better in terms of animation quality. Pick a cartoon adapted from a big-budget animated Disney film from the 90s, and it had better animation quality. That is my real sticking point with this special.

I think it's not magic bad, It's more magic was used to fight the villains but with the villains locked away, the reason for the magic is no more. And budget cuts for CGI killed them using more.
You know what it actually makes sense especially because this is a trope in media where oh you have magical powers but if you don't not use them to fight bad guys and do it irresponsibly for your own personal gain then I'm sorry we're taking away your Powers so it was a very very tone down example of that yeah it makes sense

I've never been a huge fan of modern Disney's shows. But Cameron's death was such a shock. He seemed like such a nice and talented kid. Such a shame. I can't even imagine what his parents are going through
