Ohhhhhh Vienna.....it catched me 1981 and saw Ultravox first time 1981in November in Munich and a sec time years later...wanted always to go to Vienna and when I was planning, work wasn't make it.....first time I overflow Vienna and sure remember the song on my first trip to Egypt....then 2004 to 2006 I was working in the wintertime in Austria and was in Vienna....after my work sure at the Stephansplatz at the dome and sure the song in my mind.... love it...
Its hard to imagine what it must have been like back in the 80's when songs like this were first released and heard on the radio and of course, to watch the video on MTV. Being born in the earlier part of this wonderful decade, I just wasn't quite aware at the time of course. Love this version of this utterly brilliant song. You just get the impression, hugely talented people like Midge Are, have been overlooked by so many, for so long, its a shame his talents aren't celebrated a lot more, including the huge role he played in Band Aid and all that achieved and stood for.
Thanks for your thoughts. Music in the 80s for me was both exhilarating in terms of what this whole movement meant (New Romantics, Pop, Electronica) and educational (being from a different country, trying to desperately learn the language, so I can integrate and fit in) - I cherished these songs, their lyrics, every word was like gold to me. I literally learned English through these songs - playing such songs, over and over and over on my crap hi-fi unit, literally sustained my spirit to continue learning, educating myself and coming to love this country and integrating into British life and culture. Which is why I sometimes now despair at what our politicians have done to it - the disastrous decisions taken, over the past few decades, have turned it upside down. And while I'm not a native to these isles, I mourn the death of any traditions and long for a revival, just as I witnessed in the 80s, through these glorious songs!
@@thecloudtherapist What a great way to put it all into perspective. Looking back though, the culture and music from the decade that was the 80's, still stands up to the tests of time. As you've said, unfortunately the world is still a very dangerous, and probably even more divided place now though....Progress? I don't think so.
indeed - I was 14 when this and Fade to Grey - I was a metalhead (JP/IM) - and those two songs took me to broarden my tasks and when Peter Gabriel's So came out, it was complete...
Mr Ure..respect!...you can still 'rock' this song despite your age; I can remember when I first saw/heard this [an influential album to me in my teens], exactly where I bought the 12@ album [still have it!], and am no 'Spring Chicken' myself!...so often performers age, and unfortunately with this their vocal abilities suffer/fade from grace, but this is not the case here...in fact I was looking for the date when this was performed, I really can't believe its so recent!
Love Gorkie as i call them. I've been listening 🎶 to this beautiful band for 20 plus year. Wonderful folk, ballads with soulful vocals and violin. ❤💋💋💋💋💋💋💋💋❤️
Can’t see the problem with any title, sounds great as did ultravox, so many bands touring with maybe one or two original artists, just good to hear the great sounds again 👍👍👍👍👍
The bit that got me was they found a keyboard player who can also play the violin! Was there an audience for this? Would have loved to have seen some reaction from them.
Can’t see the problem with any title, sounds great as did ultravox, so many bands touring with maybe one or two original artists, just good to hear the great sounds again 👍👍👍👍👍 Sounds awesome btw ☺️
I love Ultravox and Midge since my teenage days. Now I´m 54 years old, singing many years in small bands in clubs and so on. BUT: I can hardly believe, that the voice is coming so clearly and "near" when he is so far away from the microphon with his mouth like in the refrain before the instrumental part. After the instrumental part, the voice is exaclty so clear and "near", but he is singing very near in the microphone ... Makes me thoughtful if the refrain is really live singing. In his age it is stunning, how he performs, no doubt...
why is it titled Ultravox and Midge Ure (live), when it's actually only Midge Ure live here (with some other musicians)... It is an Ultravox song, of course, but these musicians are not members of Ultravox (the band that doesn't exist anymore)... Anyway, top performance indeed...
This song brings on melancholy of living in Vienna. Such a beautiful song.
Stunning. Just stunning. I don't think i fully appreciated Midge's voice back then. Thank you for this fabulous song. ❤
Born in 1964, I'm so glad I was a teenager in the 80s! 40 years later, Midge Ure/Ultravox still rock. Thank you for the music!
Same here and I 100% agree!!! The guy is a genius! When you consider what this guys done & been involved with over the decades… it’s incredible! 🤘🏻
Good man you! Totally agree with you. 💯
Born in 62 the 80’s were the best
What an incredible voice and this song is a haunting pop masterpiece
Still one of my favourite songs of all time. Wow. Such a big song.
What gets you is the majesty of 80’s songs like this, and the crap we get today. My kids are so envious that I lived through all this..
Its just djs today. Total crap. No art just trying to print money
One of the most Iconic 80's songs performed to perfection .... WOW
Midge Ure has always has such a perfectly beautiful voice.
What a voice! Amazing performance 😍
He still has the chops, nailed the high notes! Great song
One of my favourite songs 👌
Un enorme brano cantato da dio, su una base ridicola...

Musical genius!
Saw Midge last night in Atlanta - what a talent; great stories, soaring voice. One of a kind.
Beautiful song and the guy on the violin played beautifully

I got immediate chills the first time I saw and heard this song back in the 80s....and every time since.

Still one of those songs that has you bursting into song as the chorus starts and his tone is superb considering how old this song is.
That just blew my mind. EPIC.
A song that changed my life instantly... (then)
Fact: Midge has played guitar with Thin Lizzy....

I left a girl from Vienna because our relationship didn't mean much to me. Always found this song very fitting.

That is NOT Ultravox. That is Band Electronica. I've seen them play this live. That IS Midge though.

killer
I'd never thought Captain Picard was such a good singer.
Fantastic but unfortunately there is a jump at second 34. If that could be corrected it would be perfect.
Joe Dolce says hi 🙈
When I was living in Australia I got an infection of midges and people kept calling me "Midge Ure" and singing to my face "Oh Vienna"
😅

His jacket has got shorter from original video in raincoat. Another 40 years he will be in shirt sleeves...😀
damn you Joe Dulche
Walls via netta
I didn't know Cpt. Picard is doing music...
yes...and killing it.
Good playing,but I want lessons!🙄
This means nothing to me .........
Amazingly this was beaten to No. 1 by the awful shameful utter horrible "shaddap-a you face" - Joe Dolce. Sickened me. What WERE people thinking?
Fantastic!
